Alright listen, the ONLY reason this place is not a five star joint is because the service is TERRIBLE.
BUT - I've been going here for 20+ years, and the food remains excellent. My favorite is the spaghetti (not baked) with meat sauce. Their sauce is excellent, sometimes I wish they had the refinement of being able to cook noodles al dente but this is no Il Terrazzo, who am I kidding? But the food here, is damn good.
A few tips to keep in mind (particularly when ordering delivery) are to have them repeat your exact order a couple of times. This may irritate the waiter/phone answerer, but it's essential to preventing a situation like Megan B. had over here. They are Asian owners, and being Asian myself I can tell you- they WILL do cheap stuff (i.e. mail you a three dollar gift card) but the food is and has been awesome for years.
With that said, expect 70's decor at the location, and a waitress who probably lives in a trailer park nearby.
Great Italian food and not so great Asian owners await you, try it out. Seriously, it's probably the best Italian in downtown Des Moines. And being a patron of Il Terrazzo and Via Tribunali frequently, I can tell you, this food isn't that bad.
What the hell happend to this place!?!?! It used to have great pizza and service. There are new owners that have run it into the ground, and it appears it will be dying soon. When you drive by on a Friday or Saturday night, there are on average about 3-4 cars in the parking lot, and I am sure the staff drives some of them.
The last time I ordered, I was told by some teenage girl on the phone that they didnt want to make chicken wings because it was too close to closing time. It was about an hour to closing. How rediculous is that? I have worked in many restaraunts in the past, and every thing was available until you reach closing time. Each item I ordered she had to put me on hold to see whether the cook would be willing to prepare it. When you call, they make it seem like they are annoyed by your wanting food! SORRY FOR BOTHERING YOU WITH MY MONEY!
My dad was a big spender here (via delivery) when I was a kid - but things started going downhill. I think the last straw was when he called to complain about something or other for the upteenth time, they had the audacity to send him a gift card for three dollars. THREE whole dollars.
He mailed it back to them.
The pizza was okay. The service was not.
