You can try anything before you buy, so five stars for that alone. With olive oil, I feel there really is no one "best" oil because what you choose is based on personal taste (do you like a peppery oil? something milder?) and what you plan to do with the oil. That's why it's so nice to be able to taste what you're getting before shelling out the cash. The salespeople let me be as a browsed around the store, but were happy to help when I asked.
I went in for a decent all purpose oil for sauteing and baking, and found what I wanted, though my choices were a little limited since most of the oils here are flavored. They also have an extensive selection of flavored balsamics. All the products come in a nice "Boston Olive Oil Company" bottle, so they would make great gifts if you're looking to give something locally made. -

Shopping here was such a relaxing and pleasant experience! I loved tasting every single olive oil and vinegar as well as their delicious truffle sea salt! The employee working was very nice and helpful. If I wasn't flying, I would have bought several more bottles as gifts! I purchased the butter flavored olive oil, which is fantastic! It is great since most chefs use olive oil for cooking and then add butter for flavor, and the Boston Olive Oil Company has done the work for you in this instance! I also purchased the peach vinegar, which is so refreshing, and the truffle sea salt, as well as the espresso balsamic vinegar, which I cannot say enough about!
I am so obsessed with their Espresso Balsamic Vinegar! I have never tasted anything like it and I am in love! The quality is unbeatable. The Espresso Vinaigrette I created with it is my absolute favorite salad dressing! I will be stopping by the next time I am in Boston! -

This year I did most of my holiday shopping early, but I still needed to pick-up a few last minute gifts today. I refuse to shop on Christmas Eve (I rather be sipping an egg nog martini thankyouverymuch) so I took to the streets today to find something special. I was having a hard time thinking of presents for some foodies in my life and luckily a girlfriend brought up her recent trip to the Boston Olive Oil Company...once I entered this little shop I knew I had come to the right place!
The decor is simple but the products are high quality and the staff is helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. They will help you pair an olive oil with a balsamic vinegar or you can taste test for yourself. There is a 'tasting policy' that basically says please don't guzzle the oil, especially if you're not buying it, and everyone seemed respectful of that. The shop was busy but not crazy crowded which wasn't bad for the last Sunday before Christmas.
I picked up the Harissa Olive Oil and Vanilla Bean Balsamic Vinegar pairing (spicy and sweet...yum!) as well as the Organic Tuscan Herb Olive Oil with Pomegranite Balsamic Vinegar. Each oil and vinegar came in a different bottle (they have different shelf lives and shouldn't be stored for a long period together) and were packed into handsome looking bags before I left. For about $80 I got two very unique gifts that I know my family will love- no one on my list is getting a shake weight this year!
Some Balsamic flavors:
Black Cherry
Blackberry Ginger
Cinnamon Pear
Coconut
Dark Chocolate
Espresso
Fig
Grapefruit
Honey Ginger
LemonGrass Mint
Pineapple
Peach
Pomegranate
Pumpkin
Sicilian Lemon
Strawberry
Tangerine
Traditional
Vanilla
Wild Blueberry
Olive Oil infusions:
Chipotle
Harissa Oil
Herbs de Provence - Organic
Porcini
Tuscan Herb - Organic
Whole Fruit Blood Orange
Whole Fruit Persian Lime
Roasted French Walnut Oil
White Truffle Oil
Wild Mushroom & Sage - Organic -

Amazing experience there!!! I love the fact that you can try a sample of the oils and vinegar before you buy them. Also, the lovely people who work there are so helpful and took the time to really explain the different options that I had based on what I was looking for. They paired me with a couple of bottles of vinegar and oil. I ended up buying a few more based on their paring suggestion for gifts, I was a hit at my friends house warming.

So many choices to select from for olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Our favorite was: Strawberry balsamic vinegar and the basil infused olive oil. $20. a bottle (12.68 oz)
We tried it at home with these 2 mixed together, and dipped with french bread...it was delicious. You can taste a hint of sweet strawberry flavor. This a nice change from you regular balsamic dipping sauce.
They let you sample any flavor, and the staff was very nice and helpful. -

Saved by the Boston Olive Oil Company opening up here. I buy olive oil when I am in Portland OR at a very similar and equally cool store however lugging olive oil via the airline doesn't work with the TSA taking away any and all liquids. My wife as usual paying attention to her surroundings spots the sign for the store (I am generally oblivious as my wife like to point out). Once pointed in the correct direction, I could not get into the store quick enough.
This store has a fantastic selection of olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Two of my favorites are butter olive oil (think guilt free popcorn) and peach balsamic vinegar. You can samples all of the products before buying them and the staff has rated the oils on a scale of 1 to 10 to help you select the strength of oil that you prefer. It is worth buying the pouring spouts they stock at the counter. I am not sure if they have a $1.00 off when you return a bottle like they do in Portland. The shop is spotlessly clean and well organized. This is going to be a regular stop on my food shopping days. -

I had to reign it in while I was in here today, 'cause it could have gotten out of control. I tried a number of balsamic vinegars, both regular and white, and walked out with a bottle of their traditional, which was out of control delicious. I tried some olive oils too, and opted to purchase some when I actually need olive oil versus buying now and leaving it unopened.
The staff member who walked me through the tasting bar was really helpful and pointed me towards some tasty things. I'd highly suggest coming here if you need a little gift, or want to splurge for you. I highly anticipate some amazing caprice salads in my future with my new balsamic! -

This place is awesome. I really wish I had known that this little gem existed a looong time ago!
I was looking for a unique birthday gift for my sister on Newbury street and found myself in front of the Boston Olive Oil Company. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in and saw what looked like a bright little bar with tons of taps of olive oil and vinegar. Did I just walk into foodie heaven?
The staff was immediately helpful and encouraged me to grab some bread and start trying things out. I was looking for something unique but not TOO crazy and I ended up going with two customer favorites -- the pomegranate balsamic and a Tuscan herb olive oil. If you ask the staff will happily suggest and mix the pairs together for you to try out. The prices for such gourmet products are extremely reasonable and I even tried some truffle salt (a-ma-zing of course) which they will soon be selling!
The bottles were wrapped up in tissue paper for me (guess who saved $$ on gift wrapping!) and the girl who was helping me printed out the descriptions for me to add in the gift. If you are just looking to sample some new products, buy a gift, or want to try out a unique oil or vinegar in your cooking do not hesitate to come here! -

The olive oil ain't where its at - that honor belongs to the wide selection of balsamic vinegars and their impressive willingness to allow you to taste nearly every variety regardless of price.
Super location, friendly staff, and a little something different compared to the North End spots selling big cans of standard olive oil and cheap balsamic at marked up toursity prices. -

I heard about this place from a friend and walked in one day to check it out. Its such a pleasant atmosphere. They have a tasting room set up and you are allowed to try any balsamic vinegars or olive oils that you are interested in. I ended up going with a bottle of Espresso Balsamic, which is so versatile! I've done salad dressing, a chicken marinade and threw some into my breakfast greek yogurt. Its to die for delicious. Would make the perfect gift.

A savory candy shop for big kids! Stepping out of the tourist hulaballoo of Newbury St and into Boston Olive Oil Company gets you an adventure for the tongue, FOR FREE.
For those of you needing to include more salad into your diet, but worried that your greens will be too plain, BOOC is where you need to go.
Yesterday I tasted Persian Lime Olive Oil, Wild Mushroom and Sage (super umami, ps), Whole Fruit Blood Orange, and the spicy kick of Harissa Olive Oil. These were all amazing. Interspersed between Olive Oils are VINEGARS. Peach White Vinegar was impressive, but I think Dark Chocolate Vinegar would be delicious on some arugula.
I look forward to coming back and making some real purchases. -

Very nice layout and tasting bar for all of the olive oils and vinegars. There is deinitely something here for everyone. During my short visit there, everyone who came in, walked out with the buttery tasting olive oil. I was most intrigued by the espresso balsamic and their olive oils with a pepper finish.
They encourage sipping all of the different flavors so that you get the full flavor. Little tasting cups are set out by each tasting silo (I don't know a better word for this). There is also bread available for dipping if you are inclined to do so.
The prices are very reasonable! When compared to O&CO, they are actually cheap. Mostly everything is around $18-$20 for a nice big bottle. There are also some jams and other gift items around. -

I discovered this place for the first time a few weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE it. It's so wonderful to be able to try the different olive oils and vinegars and pick out which ones you want to take home. I enjoyed the balsamic vinegars more so than the olive oils though. Can't recommend this place more!

I want to live in this store.
Finally, a chance to taste a variety of olive oils and balsamicos before you buy, and a good selection of flavored oils and vinegars as well. The staff seems very knowledgeable and willing to answer any and all questions. Highly recommended. -

Great selection, friendly staff, but most importantly...reasonable prices. Gourmet foods can drain the bank but Boston Olive Oil Co. is moderately priced. I purchased a fig balsamic glaze for $10. The vinegars are a bit more but are sold in a larger bottle for roughly $1 (though Im sure prices vary). The store also carries a wide selection of flavors, from pineapple white balsamic vinegar to lime olive oil, and of course dark chocolate balsamic vinegar. Go check it out and buy a bottle. A perk of BOOC is it's location because after you pop in, you can buy a baguette, cheese, and wine at DeLuca's to make a very Italian/Parisienne meal.

The lemongrass mint vinegar cured my sore throat! (if only it was cheaper)
