I stayed at the Marriott Copley for 2 nights in May 2012, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Check-in was easy, and I was upgraded, unasked, and given an incredible room rate - better than I had been quoted. I also arrived early, and was able to get a room immediately.

Staff was polite, the corner room on the 35th floor was wonderful with magnificent views of the harbor on one side, and Beacon Hill, on the other, and the bed, pillows and comforter were exceedingly soft and comfortable. I did hear doors slam, as one person wrote, but it was infrequent, and it didn't bother me. Other than that I never heard a sound.

I will caution anyone on eating in the casual restaurant at the hotel because it is very expensive - a light breakfast for 5 cost $80. However, there are lots of restaurant options close-by, and a great candy kiosk next to a Starbucks on the 2nd floor concourse! Tiffany's is in the mall attached to the hotel for anyone who wants to save money on eating at the hotel and do a little shopping! :-)

I would definitely stay at the hotel again.

I came here for a conference, and WOAH. I've stayed in nice hotels all my life, and this is no exception. The lobby is crowded, but nicely appointed. The staff is helpful and attentive, which is not often seen in some chains, alas.

The best part, hands down, was the room I got. It's a hugely pricey hotel, but I got a conference rate that was excellent, especially for what I got. I walked in to my top floor room and it was a corner room! Small, but the views! Holy cow, the views! I could see everything, from here to Cambridge, the Atlantic, the Back Bay neighborhood, everything! It was sheer luck, but my stars, did I appreciate it!

The bed is excellent, with tons of fluffy pillows and a big fluffy comforter. *Clean* linens - - - whitest of whites. Clean, new carpet, a cute little settee that was also clean, and the bathroom, although tiny, was sparkling clean. New fixtures and finishes, good shower with a good showerhead, and a great hairdryer! Good soaps/shampoos - -  only wished they had a mini bottle of mouthwash to top it off. The curtains were clean, and had a sheer drape and a blackout drape. That was a smart touch. Hey, it's the little things!

My only complaint is that the wireless isn't free. $13 for wireless in a hotel room that goes for $699 a night? (I did not pay that rate - - - I'd have to sell my kidney to do that) That's my only nagging thing. Maybe the elevator too, but when you have 38 floors of rooms and conference spaces, it can take a while to move up and down.

I'd recommend a stay here for anyone who has deep pockets! Or needs to go to a conference here. :)

Great central location, beautiful city views from our room, updated decor and a very comfortable bed makes for a great and happy stay!

There is Starbucks on the lower level, as well as a couple of lounges. It is located inside a big shopping plaza in the middle of the city. It's either a short cab drive, or walk from many great restaurant and attractions.

I would be looking forward to staying there again when in Boston.

Terrible...  Don't expect to be able to get anywhere quickly - it seems like most of the elevators don't work!  Not to mention the escalator from the 1st to 2nd floor is STILL out of order.  Front desk manager over the weekend has negligible customer service skils.

Overall the experience was so crummy I'm tempted to make an inappropriate reference to the Craig's List killer.  Never again will I stay here!

Massive high-rise Marriott, service was fast and friendly, I was impressed with everyone I encountered, including security guard.

This place is connected with prudential tower via walkpath, and to the mall. Very convenient in cold weather.

Parking and driven in /out was breeze, impressed with considering how central of city they re located.

One thing I wasn't impressed is the security of guests, anyone can tie elevator up to guest floor without challenge (except concierge floor), which was a little alarming for a puss like me.

It's very pricy, but cheaper than waterfront  Marriott by $50 (it was $399pn). Joy of corporate traveling....

I only stay at Marriott's if I have a choice as this was instilled in my by my father from an early age. Of course the Ritz carlton is affiliated and the JW & Rennaissance are also wonderful new brand additions and I stay at them all interchangeably.

That being said, New Year's Eve my father got my family a room there so the kids could enjoy the pool and NYE festivities downtown. It was a blast. The renovations are quality. I like the color schemes and the overall vibe. I love the increased elevator security after the craigslist incident as well. The whole place has been updated including the restaurant and cafe scene and I enjoy it all. It seems very alive.

My only peeve's are that the elevators are slow and sometimes have issues when opening but I find this in many places and don't entirely trust elevators these days but who wants to walk 20 floors? Not me.

The next peeve, there were about 50 kids in that pool NYE and 15 of them were in the hot tub without parents. Parents, don't put your kids in 105 degree water alone. I don't want to babysit I want to relax. My stepkids were in the pool. If they wanted to come in the hot tub they had to relax and sit nicely. I am sure the rules said something about this but no one read them.

Also room service was way over expensive. $50-$60 for a salad and a sandwich and a 1.5hr wait for it. I am going out and getting it from the mall myself next time for the $15.00 it should be.

The staff is great though. The rooms are great. The pool area is very nice. The location rocks. The remodel is beautiful thus far. Just take the extra money you get from food service and apply it to a lifeguard or equivalent. Thanks!

My wife and I stayed here after reserving a room on http://Priceline.com on a Thursday morning for a Saturday night stay for $120!  We were very happy with the price for the location.  We did not specifically pick this hotel...the website did for us.

I called ahead and found that parking ranged from $35-45 a night, so make sure you include that in your budget.

The staff was very friendly.  The rooms were to the 9's.

It's about a two mile walk to the waterfront in the North End.  Highly recommend doing that...put 257 Hanover Street, Boston, MA in your GPS direct to Modern Pastry Shop for Cannolis  :-)  You'll see the best of Boston!

As a Marriott employee, I got the wonderful rate of $59 (Mind you that evening alone had a $379 regular rate). Beautiful hotel, stayed on the 37th floor, had an amazing view of Boston all the way out! I could easily identify the Braintree area from where we were. The pool was the biggest inner city pool i have seen, it was set up nice, the gym area was huge and well equipped, and the restaurant was modern. AND THE LOCATION! near Back bay station, the lobby is in the Copley Place mall, and theres a Bridge to the Prudential! Dining everywhere, couldnt ask for better.

4 Stars for:  Fitness Facility, Location, Business Office, and lobby area.

3 Stars for the rooms.  They are the old style Marriott and need updating as far as design.

2 Stars for Concierge Lounge.  The staff up there was not friendly.  As a frequent Marriott user, you do get used to the friendly concierge lounge staff.  This is first time I did not leave a tip for them.  Disappointing.

Hotel staff is generally very friendly.  Easy to help with luggage, hailing cabs, etc.

Location is everything with this hotel.  I loved it.

The hotel itself is located in a lovely area, with a lot of touristy malls and they have a building that is set just off of the Copley area and Prudential Center. Very nice area to walk around in and just a long block away from the T or the many food shops just North of here.

The service is fairly good at the front desk. Elevator bank was a little confusing for some, but you really just have to realize that one bank doesn't go to the middle-level floors between 5-14ish.

The hallway... weird design. Cold air blowing from a vent directly into the face of entering guests as they turn towards the 28-37 wing of the rooms on the 9th floor. Not sure why. Just weird.

Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The desk lamps and other lamps, though, no easy way to turn them on - metal push button at the base required holding the lamp in order to actually turn them on or off otherwise you'd push it right onto the floor. Weird.  The TV had ~60 channels, of which many were inoperable. Internet is $13 a night, fyi, at least for the room type that we had.

One note - the toilet paper is seriously harsh. Bring your own or go down the block and get some at the Walgreens. Save yourself.

Overall, the experience was okay. I will probably try other locations in the future... this was more for a location convenience than anything. The sports bar downstairs and a handy hotel shop were neat and clean, the Starbucks, chocolate truffle place, and a couple other close options for dining aren't bad.

    But I've had much better.

Oh, other tip - like Phil S., get it on Priceline. $400+ a night is rather ridiculous in my opinion for what you'd get otherwise unless they really up their game in the higher floor rooms?

I have stayed at this particular Marriott a couple of times.  The staff is friendly, the rooms spacious, and the extras are great.  The only problem for this spot is the difficulty getting from the Boston Back Bay train station to the hotel lobby with luggage.  The distance is short enough that you want to walk over.  However, you have to cut across some odd alleyways and a round about method or cut through the mall.  i just feel a little odd walking through a mall with luggage.

The internet is ethernet in the room rather then wifi, but this seems to be standard Marriott thing with ibahn that I won't harp on (much).

Starbucks in the building and attached to the mall with many places to eat even if the pickings in the hotel itself are limited.

I like that the conference floors are all attached by escalator so you don't have to wait forever to get from floor to floor for a conference.

I was in Boston on business, and this hotel was selected for me.  Although I didn't have a say in staying here, I can say it was okay.  Allow me to elaborate on its pluses and minuses:

    Pluses:
Location -  convenient to the convention center, a slew of restaurants, and the hotel itself is directly connected to a shopping mall

Restaurants - the hotel restaurant ranks above average.  Oh, and there's a Starbucks in the hotel, so I didn't have to wander far to get my extra-strength caffeine fix.

Service - the staff were friendly and helpful

Fitness center - a full gym with tons of free weights and machines, along with personal TVs on every elliptical, bike or treadmill.  Eeeeeexcellent...

Cleanliness - no bedbugs here!  Score!

    Minuses:
Confusing elevator situation - three banks of elevators that exit into confusing corridors of rooms or which drop you into a oddly configured and yes, confusing, lobby area.

No free internet - bah, humbug.  And no free internet in the business center either!!! This was just flat-out annoying. *grumble*

Small bathroom.  And if you keep the door open to avoid feeling claustrophobic, you can see yourself pee thanks to the mirrored closet door directly across the way.  Classy.

    Sooo... yeah.  Only okay.

Location, location, location.  Plus the amenities of an attached starbucks and mall, Shaws (big grocery) across the street and T stop nearby.  Huge hotel.  Small room with somewhat thin walls.  Decor a bit old and rundown.  We had a broken mini fridge in the room and could have used one that actually worked.  Too busy out doing to swim, but there is a pool.

It's a bit of a hike, but we actually walked to both Fenway and the Freedom Trail from the hotel.  I'd recommend taking the T to the F Trail instead, which is what we did on the way back.

Gym - on the 5th floor with a nice indoor pool and hot tub. The gym uses it's limited space well with a nice array I cardio equipment including bikes, treadmills and elliptical trainers. The gym (most importantly to me) has a full set of dumb bells (up to 50 lbs - this could go higher) and barbells (rare for a hotel gym). There are 10 new Precor machines and a Smith rack for bench presses, inclines, squats, etc. This is also unusual for a hotel gym. Overall, the gym gets 5-stars!!

The hotel rooms are a little dated and could use updating, but it is pretty standard Marriott fare.

This is a fine hotel as long as you don't need to go up or down.  People complain about the elevators, but let's start with the escalator going down from the second floor to the first: it's currently inoperable.  When I arrived with my luggage, I entered at the street level and made the mistake of taking the "up" escalator to get to what I thought would be the reception area.  It's the Starbucks and sports bar area instead; checkin was downstairs.  What to do?  Since the "down" escalator was blocked off "for maintenance," I had to take the elevator.  This gave me a fair introduction to the hotel!  As other reviewers have explained to you, there are long waits for elevators in this place.  It's a well-established principle that people will get antsy if they have to wait more than 60 seconds after they press an elevator button.  Here you can stand around for two or three minutes before something happens.  At peak times of the day, you can come down to the aforementioned Starbucks, hit the "up" button, grab a coffee and still get back to the elevator bank before anything has happened.

Here's a detail: if you happen to be on the fifth floor (where the gym is) and want to go down, there are two possible "down" buttons you can press: one for the bank of express elevators (they service 1-5 and 27-38) and one for the bank of local elevators (the ones that service 1-27).  The two buttons don't know about each other, so your choice is to press one button and hope an elevator comes soon or to press both buttons, thereby forcing some other passengers to stop unnecessarily.  This little detail could surely be fixed by the right technology.

For everything else, this hotel was great!  I loved my room, which was high up and on a corner -- it got views in two slightly different directions.  Everything worked properly, and everything was clean and up-to-date looking.  The hotel staff were pleasant and accommodating.

I was lucky enough to have been invited to a buffet dinner for roughly 50 people that was served in one of the meeting rooms on the bottom floors.  The meal was fabulous and must have been quite pricey.  It was instructive to see that the hotel can put out really good food for a group if it wants to.

And the gym!!  Believe everything you read in the other reviews.  Top-of-the-line for hotel gyms.

Well, I have to say, this place is definitely convenient for the convention center, and it's at the right price range. It's clean and well-maintained, and...

...That's where the good news ends, unfortunately.

On a recent stay in Boston, I and a few friends found ourselves in a double with no fridge, no microwave, and a tiny bathroom, all things that were contrary to our booking and could not be remedied at check-in because there were no rooms like the one we'd booked available.

I thought that was why we had booked a room, but apparently this Marriot is a catch-as-catch-can; booking is a good idea, but you'll get what they give you and like it.

On the plus side, it was a cheaper room, but on the negative side, it wasn't the room we were supposed to have.

Just going on the accomodations we were provided, they were livable, obviously, and we spent as little time as possible there. It was so small it was stressful for the number of people in our group to be there all at once, and there was nowhere near enough space for all our things.

The bathroom was incredibly small, the tub ran so slow while showering that it would fill past your ankles if you were in too long, and there were no toiletries in there when we checked in. I don't mind asking for things when need be, but I figure there should have been soap and shampoo in there already, even though I always pack my own, just in case.

We didn't bother with room service, seeing as a food tray was left sitting on the hall floor when we arrived and didn't move for most of the weekend. We didn't really want to add to the clutter... It was a good thing, too, because while the phone in our room incessantly blinked, indicating we had messages, we could neither access these messages, nor could we use the phone for anything, besides a glorified night light, seeing as that blinking red light was on aaaaall weekend.

I've had worse. I definitely have. But this was annoying, to say the least.

This hotel is prime property. I mean if you come here to Boston to take advantage of the NO TAX for food and retail under $200, this is the place to be. No matter what time of day, it seems to be always happening with tourists, shoppers, lost tourists and more shoppers. The hotel restaurant is teeming with folks who don't want to downgrade to the mall food court and the staff is always on hand and ready to give you a quick pointer to where you want to go, be it your room or the nearest Louis Vuitton.

I really like the connections that the Copley place hotels such as the Marriott had made since walking outside when its winter in Boston is not exactly pleasant. When you can get to 4 different mall areas and plenty of close by eateries while still remaining in arms reach of Newbury st, what else do you need?

Beware though, Copley place hotels know when it's peak season, so your rates can vary dramatically, but for the most part you can find deals with free wi-fi which these days seem almost a necessity even when traveling for leisure.

Excellent location, but the hotel was loud.

Personally I think that the Long Wharf Marriott is nicer.  It is not one of the nicer Marriotts.

The hotel is huge - it has about 38 floors, and as a result the lobby is constantly a zoo.

The room was ok, but you could hear all the hallway noise all night long.  The worst part is that the air conditioning clicked (yes, it made a loud clicking sound) on and off all night.  If you are a light sleeper this is not the hotel for you.

I am a pretty serious Marriott girl, as folks generally know, and having stayed in many of them across the country, this is a pretty sad excuse for a Marriott. First off, there were no suites at all available because the hotel was under renovation, which was annoying, but would have been nice if they had at least warned me when I booked instead of telling me they'd see what they could do.

The elevators are a mess, with three banks that all go to overlapping floors. Seriously? Do you really need to continuously confuse your guests? I guess the answer is yes!

The phone in our room didn't work. Awesome. I had some girlfriends over for the beginning of a bachelorette party, so I didn't want them fixing the phone while we were all in there. The concierge sent up electricians anyway, despite my requests not to have them sent up. Thanks for listening.

There was no ice machine on our floor (really? on an elite floor, no ice machine?) and when I called down to room service for an extra ice bucket (from the hallway phone no less), I got passed back and forth between housekeeping and room service for a good ten minutes before I was told they would only bring me an empty ice bucket (thanks) and I could not have a knife or any other sharp object but I could go to the restaurant on the first floor for a plastic knife. Have you ever tried to cut a lime with a plastic knife? Don't bother unless you really want some lime-ade.

Room service was quick and decent, although beware the hot wings! they are amazingly spicy. The jumbo shrimp cocktail is awesome though. One star extra just for that, no joke. It almost compensates for the fact that the concierge lounge for elite guests is closed on Saturdays! WTF?

Overall, this is a pretty sad excuse for a Marriott. I think they could do a lot better with a little attention, for now, I won't be back. Proximity to the mall be damned, I want to be comfy and pampered when I stay at a hotel!

    Great location
    Service was good

We were "upgraded" to a hospitality suite as the hotel was overbooked.  They room was larger and had a great view, but the bed was smaller.  It was a Murphy bed.  It failed in the comfort department.  I'd rather have a comfy bed over the view.    Our door lock was jammed when we got to the room, but was replaced quickly (within 15 mins from the time was called, the lock was completely replaced and the engineer was gone)

The location is great. The service is great. The rooms are great.

We arrived for early check in for a conference at the Westin. This hotel is right across from the Westin, so we are super close. It's connected to the mall, there's a Starbucks on the ground floor, and a Dunkin' Donuts across the street. Way to start me off right!

We got upgraded to the king room, and it is awesome. The bed is so comfortable and luscious. I want this bed at home. The room also had a desk, LCD TV, and the most amazing view from the 29th floor.

Internet sucks. I called to confirm that internet was complimentary because that was what was advertised on the website. However, when i tried to connect, we have to pay $13 per 24 hr period for the hi-speed internet. I called reception and they comped me for one night of internet, but since I work mostly through the net, this is not very good for me.

The pool closes at 11 and there are no exceptions. However, the indoor swimming pool has lanes and the jacuzzi is huge. The fitness room is also quite impressive with tons of treadmills and weights.

I stayed here when I tagged along to Boston with my wife for one of her business conferences.

Good: nice view, close to shopping and lots of restaurants, also close to the green line, and very walkable for gawky tourists like me. The rooms were clean and well maintained, and the tea tree oil shampoos and conditioners were definitely better than the normal Brand X stuff you get in hotels.

Bad: Internet access was $10 per day. No way in hell I'm paying that much when I can walk around for a few blocks and find a free hot spot instead. Most hotels, especially ones that cater to conferences, offer this service for less or for free. Also, the lobby felt like I was in an office building from Miami Vice circa 1986. Lots of gold and escalators, the image only ruined by the Starbucks.

In Boston for a business trip (representin' EW @ AATS). One of the conference hotels happened to be the Boston Marriott Cop-a-feel.

I arrived in a taxi from BOS Logan, but there's no one waiting outside in the turnaround. The lobby was empty. But sure, this was Friday morning.

The lobby reaks of late 1970s 'opulence.' Lots of reds and golds. They have a lobby bar area that opens in the evenings, so that is a kicker.

Got my key and cruise up to the 27th floor. Open up and I find more of that old-world bleh. The rooms are quite outdated. I looked at my key card sleeve - $285. I would never pay anything like that for this room.

The carpet is pretty dingy. The lack of mini-bar had me cradled in the fetal position on my bed. The bed, by the way, was soft but lumpy in places, with portions of the stitching detached. It was pretty shabby.

The good about the room? Nice new-ish 42" LG flat screen. AMAZING view over Back Bay, the Carles River and out toward Logan and the ocean.

The location is nice. Shaw's supermarket right across the street. Killer shopping about two blocks away along Boylston and Newbury. Lots of restaurants.

The hotel itself is just sub-par, especially at that rate. Sorry, you will have to do better than that. Just because it's a captive audience doesn't mean you can mark shit up and keep low quality. Oh wait, that's exactly what it means. Be forewarned!

For six days and five nights, I was housed at the Marriott Copley for an industry conference at the Hynes Convention Center.  My room was spacious, clean and beds were very comfortable. I was on the 11th floor and had a great view of the city.  Great gym with more than one treadmill and elliptical machine.

The staff is very friendly and accommodating to the guests needs.  I especially am grateful for the friendly bell staff for helping me schlep boxes to and from various meeting rooms for my company at the crack of dawn!

My only drawback for this hotel is the charge for Internet access. Talk about highway robbery.  At least I was able to find a wi-fi connection but that wasn't up to par.. Despite this, it's still a great hotel with affordable prices..

If your ever in Boston, stay at the Marriott.

This is a great Marriott located in a prime location right between the Pru and Copley. The staff is really nice and attentive and the rooms are clean and a decent size. The gym is amazing. Best hotel gym I've ever seen by far! There are ample treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and a fair amount of free weights and weight machines. They also have a pool and jacuzzi and pretty good locker rooms with showers. Breakfast and internet are not included but that's standard for Marriott hotels.

I didn't stay here, though I did get lost several times in the maze of a multi-floor lobby this place has. I'm pretty sure M.C. Escher designed the hotel.

They did have a cool beverage dispenser at the front desk that I thought had lime-aid in it. It turned out to be cucumber water, which made me almost spit it out unintentionally. I guess that makes more sense than lime-aid. Oh well.

I had the unfortunate luck of staying here for three nights (one of which was during the Craigslist killer murder and the next night was when news reporter trucks lined up outside of the building throughout the day). The Marriott didn't alert any of their guests of the murder and the only way I found out was turning on the television...to see the exterior of the hotel and news reporters outside.

Misfortune aside, the Marriott has a gorgeous view of the Charles River and I was on the top floor. The location is perfect and it is connected to the mall (Cheesecake factory, Starbucks, shopping, groceries). It's second floor connects to an escalator that opens up to a mall with high-scale stores and nice restaurants. It's also a short walk to Newbury and Boston University.

They didn't bat an eye when we (3 girls squished into 1 room) blew the fuse twice within a span of 10 minutes. I guess hair dryer, flatiron, tv and fan all being on at the same time will do it. ;)

Great service, decent location! (not sure about price as we didn't pay)

I had attended a conference there over the summer. I was certainly one of the first guests to arrive to insure a good seat. The entire floor of function rooms had clearly been booked judging from the registration tables, setup crews, and staff present on the floor.

I asked one where this room was and she politely brought me to the room as it was on the end. She asked if there was anything else? I asked if they had a cafe I could get a coffee at. She noticed my DD cup from the train ride in and said "Give me that cup, I'll be back."

With a good deal of service/banquets background, I can attest to the multitude of tasks that need to be completed for a smooth operation.

Two thumbs up for the initiative shown here when she easily could have said "no" or provided vague direction to an outside coffee shop.

Great service overall. Thanks Marriot - Copley!

I didn't know that when I picked this hotel I was also choosing the mall that went with it. Fabulous option, kids. I happened to get upgraded to concierge level which gave me SWEET service, too bad i didn't take advantage of it because I'm a dork and had no idea that the room with the food was for me too! Geez.

Anyways, great hotel and views for all...You're near everything, including restaurants, shops (and not just the ones in the mall) and other places worth visiting. Newbury is only a hop skip and jump away, and you're also near the T, so you'll get to travel even further while there! Save up tho, you might go broke staying here, but on the company dime, it's a good bet. Coffee lines in the lobby can be long, so make your own in your room if you need it to get going. Also, if your conference is in Hines, get your sleepy butt up early because it is a little walk away, even through the mall.

I was at a conference with a two-night stay. This hotel was very convenient to the Convention Center and Prudential Center. Good number of neighborhood places in the area if you don't want the chain restaurants. Also close to the subway stop.
Staff was polite and I had no problems at all.
The room was very comfortable and perfectly fine. It's all I need for a business stay!

Pros:  Comfy beds, lots of restaurant and bar options within walking distance, efficient check in service.

Cons:  Ridiculous charges for internet access. Good think I've managed to find a free wi-fi connection!
