Rowland Heights, CA
I can never have enough of their HK Style Milk Tea.
Food comes FAST, and it's huge portions! I love every single dish on the menu. I've been going for years, and never once have I been disappointed. All their fried rice and noodles are very standard, all their Asian dishes are very standard as well-- no bad surprises. I love their seafood hot pot because there is so much seafood in there and you can tell the ingredients are fresh (applies to everything there).
I know everyone has different tastes buds and all-- but I can say this is my fav canto spot in Rowland. -

Back when I didn't feel guilty eating calorie-laden foods, I always went to R.H. Garden Cafe to get my fix. I had wanted to try Boston Kitchen though bc the reviews on Yelp were generally positive. I came here on a Thursday afternoon for a late lunch at 3PM with coworkers. They have a bunch of items on their lunch special menu ranging from baked rice to sauteed vegetables. Also, you can choose a drink from a list for $1.50. They served us our food in like 10 minutes. Excellent speed, but then again, there were only 2 other occupied tables in the restaurant.
Baked Chicken Steak w/ Rice - They slice up the chicken steak into strips for you. They definitely skimped on the sauce and the cheese. If anything, give less rice so I'm not left feeling jipped with a heap of unsauced white rice. This was possibly the worst baked dish ive had from any HK cafe. Yes, it filled me up, but I was definitely not satisfied with the food.
Prunella vulgaris Tea - Decent. Not overly sweet.
Chrysanthemum Tea w/ Honey - My coworkers all loved this. It's not a part of the lunch special drink menu, but you do get unlimited refills. It's watered down, but hits the spot, according to them.
I say opt for R.H. Garden Cafe, which is situated in the same plaza, if you're craving some Hong Kong-style cafe eats. For drinks, Boston Kitchen should be fine.Listed in: Dranks

CLOSED DOWN.
Went there many times for cheap Chinese food. Returned last week to find the restaurant is closed down. Bummer. -
Review from Tony L.
This place is located in the HK plaza on the corner of Batson and Colima. It's the old KFC building, which they conveniently kept the same color schemes on the exterior so it's hard to miss! The decor has a feel of your typical chinese restaurant in the rowland area except you can imagine the dining room of a usual KFC... But they do have patio seating available too for those wanting to dine outside.
The menu is pretty much your usual HK style dishes and drinks. The prices are quite reasonable too. The service however is abit lacking kind of like Garden cafe down the street. It gets even worst when they're packed so don't expect to get service quickly or even often during peak rush hours. The food itself was mediocre. Yes the portions are pretty big, but the flavor of the dishes just isn't that inspiring. It almost taste like something you could get at your usually fast food chinese place, ala panda express'ish. -

Food: Very good! They give you big portions, and give you extra rice if you'd like!
Price: not tht bad for yummy food (:
Service: same as always for a typical Chinese restaurant- not great.. Unless you're good friend with the manager or what.
Space: since it used to be a KFC, you wouldn't expect it to be anymore spacious. Tables are sometimes really close together, so I suggest you request for a booth.
Waiting time: breakfast-lunch time is super crowded! If the wait time is too long, head over to Supreme Dragon or RH Garden and see how long their waiting time is. You decide where you want to go from there ^_^

I'll sum this review up short, this place is for one, MSG infested, i mean if you don't care about having brain erosion. and all the toxic side effect tall the while being overly charged then by all means go ahead, secondly their service was consistently bad, I mean the waiter is always sitting there eating, and watching T.V and chit chatting, while the restaurant is already infested with people that has no idea what "indoor volume" is talking on their cell phone or having a conversation the world needs to know about with the person sitting right next to them, this isn't a place where you want to even think about dining.
Sorry but not really. -

Let's sum this up.
I like their milk tea and dong leng cha.
The food is alright. It's not crazy packed.
Parking sucks. -
Review from Mary T.
I take it back. They don't accept phone calls to reserve a spot any more. The hostess was very rude too... someone must have waken up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. The waiters seem very disorganized. We ended up leaving because we waited too long for a table!

Rowland Heights, CA
Generous dinner portions and decent prices, combining with great tastes and fast services, this place has quickly become my family's favorite place to eat. Oh, and at the end of your meal, you'll be indulging some fabulous desserts, complements of the house!
I would rate this place higher, had they utilized the ex-KFC drive-thru area as well. That will be something unique and sets itself apart from all the other surrounding Asian restaurants. I mean, how many sit-down or even fast-food Chinese restaurants have drive-thru services?

Review from Jen S.
A Hong Kong style cafe that serves a lot of slushy, boba, fruit type drinks along with various noodles, rice, and meat dishes prepared in multiple ways. Prices are reasonable, $5.50 for a bowl of shrimp wonton noodles, that taste okay: high in sodim and MSG.
But, like many of the other Yelpers have stated, the service sucks. Some tables will have condiments, some won't, if you are lucky and the waiter favors you then he might bring them to you if you don't have any.
Oh, they also charge for hot chinese tea, $1.50 for a small carafe. Head across the parking lot for a little more attentive service for the same quality of food. -

Not that great quality, actually pretty crummy quality but I really really like the spaghetti bolognese. It's so basic and cheesy. Yum CHEESE :) My better half don't like it so call me poor and cheap 'cause I like that cheap crappy spaghetti. Yum, tomatoes, cheese and piping hot from the oven.
*Disclaimer: Please note the four stars is only for the bolognese, otherwise this place gets two stars. -

Good food for the price!
WARNING - NOT GREAT SERVICE, but it's what's expected of 'asian' type places. You want five star service, don't bother coming here.
Came here for breakfast yesterday. Got their breakfast special, mac and ham soup, spam and egg sandwich and an iced coffee. MAN was the mac and ham soup filling!!! $6 (50 cents extra for 'iced' coffee vs hot) but can't complain for that price!!! Willing to try more things when I'm in the area. -

Good food and okay/standard Chinese service. Reasonably priced as well, and decent sized portions (one noodle dish I was able to eat at lunch and also take home for a full dinner later).
Overall, good place to go to get a quick, casual lunch or dinner. Definitely would see myself stopping by here a lot to eat when I'm by myself. -
Review from Courtney J.
Glendora, CA
I went here grumpy.
1) because I was flipping tired and hungry
2) because I was dragged out again by my parents for Chinese food
My parents even said that night the whole staff was a little off. There were hardly anyone in there yet it took a bazillion minutes to take our order (okay maybe like 20) but it was to the point where we were actually looking for someone...anyone.
The only thing I recall liking was the bittermelon and beef in black bean sauce. It was tasty, and it still had that hint of bitterness...kind of like my mood.
It wasn't anything special, and if I had the choice it wouldn't be the first place I'd stop in Rowland. -

this place sucks. Why do we need another mediocore Cantonese Cafe in the heights? Should have went to Garden instead!
The place is tiny but packed with tables which leaves no space in between. Non of the servers knew exactly what they were doing and can not answer any questions we had.
Menu was just like any other Cafe but definitely over-priced. My beef stir-fry noodle was tastless and greasy, prawn was sticky and ketchup-y, the only thing that was good was the chicken wings/calamari which taste the same no matter which Cafe you go to! I mean, even the lemon tea was tooooo sweet!
Maxim, Garden, DJs. .etc.... are all much better than this joint. -

Rowland Heights, CA
Cliff Notes: I guess decent canto style food. Hit or miss I'd say. Some dishes were pretty damn good, some others, I could personally make better. The service when I was here was not so good (orders that kept getting forgotten)
I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could based on this experience.
But I'll try not to be biased.
Tired so not even really going to write a full length review.
Food:
As I said earlier, it's hit or miss.
- Filet mignon with xo sauce: My friend got this and it was freakn good. BAM flavors, party in your mouth good. I was really surprised.
- Calamari appetizer: Another friend's dish that was pretty good. A lot of flavor, I'd get it next time.
- some kind of Club sandwich with fries: I didnt try the sandwich, don't know good/bad it was. Personally didn't look that appetizing to me. Fries were oooookay. not really great.
- Minced beef vermicelli in soup: I replaced the vermicelli with chow fun noodles (fatter flatter noodles). Me and another friend both got this, and we both thought it was boring. I didnt even finish mine. It was okay. Kind of bland. I can really make better noodle soup.
- Some beef rib clay pot: My friend thought it was okay, nothing special. I tried some of the meat, it was allright, not bad.
- Some kind of house fried rice: It was allright. fried rice. Nothing too spectacular.
Drinks: It seems like they have a bunch of drinks, teas, coffees, etc etc, I just got water.
Service:
- Seating: We got to Boston around 8ish I'm approximating. We had a party of 9. Although the restaurant was full, we waited only about 10-15 minutes to be seated. Not that bad I'd say.
- Everyone orders. One by one we start getting our dishes.. decent speed I'd say.
-So here's my complaint. Here's why they got 2 stars: As we all started getting our food, my friend who ordered the fried rice started wondering wtf? "What's taking so long with the fried rice? Should be one of the first ones out"
But she just waited..
Everyone got their food except 3 of my friends. This was already after a goood while of waiting, everyone else is more than halfway done eating (shady friends? we were hungry :P)
They call the waiter over and ask where the food was.
- FOUR orders were missing, the waiter somehow didn't get the orders.
How do you drop 4 orders??
The fried rice, short rib entree, the clay pot, and calamari appetizer were all missing?? Okay.... we reorder them all.
The fried rice them came out almost instantaneously. 2 minutes it seemed lol gfg.
The clay pot took another while but then eventually came out.
The calamari took even longer, we thought they forgot it again so we asked for it, he said it was on the way.
BUT, my last friend who ordered the short ribs entree, STILL has not gotten his food. Even the people who got their food reordered were almost done.
He was looking so sad, no food, watching everyone finish eating.
We called the waiter over AGAIN. Apparently the waiter FORGOT AGAIN, and had it confused with another order or something. WWOOOOOWWWW.
He asked if we wanted to order it AGAIN. For the FOURTH time. My friend had already lost his appetite, everyone was done with their food already.
And the waiter just said "Ops, sorry." WTF.
Seriously the one thing that pisses me off the most is not being able to eat when I'm hungry. Especially when it's handled like this. Not getting your order is such a bitch.
But this has happened to me/friends couple times in the past, so it might just be hitting a short nerve when it comes to this. It kills the mood.
Price: Average I'd say, not tooo bad. $5.50 for a bowl of noodle soup, I didn't check the prices for other stuff.
Atmosphere/Space:
- They have booths on the side, tables in the middle. IIRC. It seated our party of 9, one more came afterwards. But I would not recommend bringing more than 10. Max. However, I'd say it's medium sized, relatively spacious. Just think about how it was when it was KFC.
Final Verdict: While I was/am still pretty irritated at what happened, I would still give this place a shot again. Cantonese style food that is 3.5stars, decently clean, average priced.
I'm sure all the mixup with the service doesn't happen all the time (I truly hope not)
While some dishes are better than others, it's not that bad I'd say.
I'll probably try it again someday, and see if I update this review.
okay this ended up longer than I planned.
your mileage may vary. -

Decent cantonese food. Great portions. OK service. Nothing bad about this place, but no WOW-factor either. :-)
The soups are yummy, and the table next to us ordered what looked like lettuce wraps and I was drooling looking at them eat it. I'm going back just to try the lettuce wrap dish next time. = D -
Review from Chris C.
Small cafe shop that has great food at an even greater price. I come here when I don't know what to eat but want something quick, fulfilling, and yummy. I always get the beef with egg sauce on rice. I've tried LOTS of other items on the menu, but that dish is by far the best and I always come back to it.
I always choose this place over garden cafe just because the drinks and the service are far better over here.
...oh and because garden cafe's waiters always seem so angry at life. -
Review from Kaori T.
It's always a good sign when the restaurant is empty and you're the only customer entering. I gotta hand it to Boston Kitchen however. Such a random name for a Chinese Cafe. .. How in the world the owner came up with this name will go in the books of unsolved mysteries... But I digress, and back to the world of food.
Do come here for nothing but a late night surprise. I ordered the Pork Chop with spicy salt, and it was actually one of the better kinds I've tasted. It wasn't all bone, nor was it all dry. It was pretty good!
Hot and Sour soup was a little on the sodium side, but to my surprise it had more than just woodear and tofu and bamboo sprouts with it.
My girl had some chow fun, and that also was not a disappointment.
The dishes are pretty hefty and I can honestly say I may come here again, if another nighttime in Rowland Heights arises. -

It still weirds me out because I still think I'm inside a KFC when I'm here. I know they redecorated and stuff, but I will always remember what use to be KFC.
Anyways, the food is decent and the drinks aren't bad either, but... if I wanted cafe food, why not just head over across the parking lot to garden? The one good thing about this place is that it's a bit more authentic that you're average asian cafe. -

A year or two back when the KFC in the Hong Kong Plaza in Rowland Heights was chased out by what is now Boston Kitchen, I wondered to myself why someone would want to open an American restaurant in a setting surrounded by restaurants serving the likes of stinky tofu and fish ball soup. But it turns out that the only thing Bostonian about Boston Kitchen was its name.
Our family went to eat here on a Friday night, and it was packed. Granted, the restaurant is very small, and it felt small. We were fortunate to arrive just as a booth opened up. As with any Chinese restaurant, the atmosphere here was loud, boistered by the 4 or 5 flat screen TVs hanging from the walls.
We only ordered two dishes because it was two of us and the kids, and the kids eat like birds. We went simple, starting with the Seafood Chow Mein. This was very flavorful but a bit oily, and when I bit into the shrimp and squid, there was a slightly off taste, kinda like not-so-fresh seafood.
We also ordered the Seafood Rice Porridge, which was very good too, until I bit into the shrimp. Despite the weird taste of the seafood and the mixed reviews, I still think the food here is better than the Garden Cafe in the same plaza.
Hubby also ordered a strawberry slush. Not my kind of stuff, but the kids liked it. Didn't taste natural to me at all.
After eating, we were in a hurry to get to Mervyn's before closing time, but the waiter asked us if we were leaving already. Turns out dessert was coming. This was a bowl of tapioca, taro, and black eyed peas pudding, the yummiest part of the meal and a nice touch.
I would recommend Boston Kitchen for fairly cheap and decent Cantonese food. They are open very late and take credit cards. They also have a second branch in Hacienda Heights.

Review from Bobby C.
Rowland Heights, CA
This use to be a KFC (at one point KFC/Taco Bell, imagine the possibilities!), now it's known as Boston Kitchen and they didn't remodel the interior so it essentially looks like the old KFC. Been here a few times and once with Andy H. (he wrote a review as well) and the bad experience.
-Interior
Like I said, if you're from around the area and remember the KFC that once stood here you'll walk in a say it still looks like KFC except it has 4 TV's and more tables. I think they have outdoor seating but I have yet to see anyone sit out there.
-Service
The time I came here with Andy H. the service was horrible: forgetting orders, food taking longer than usual to come out, reminding the waiter and still forgetting the order. However this time around the service was good, the food was brought out in a timely manner so I have no gripes here. Perhaps the problem last time was the amount of people in the restaurant.
-Food
Really a hit or miss, I'm not too picky about food but nothing I ordered from here makes me say 'wow'. I would say it's average, the menu reminds me of Garden Cafe which is located in the same plaza.
Once a KFC, now a HK style restaurant. If you're tired of eating at the same place you can try Boston Kitchen, although don't expect anything spectacular or different. When I walk in here though I get a strange hankering for chicken with 11 herbs and spices.Listed in: Craving Chinese

I used to love this place but I've grown out of that phase. When it first opened and took over Taco Bell, I was so excited because I am a big fan of the Boston Kitchen over on Azusa. I think my expectations blinded me for a while. That, and there ingenious idea to serve all of their drinks in to-go cups. I do find it a little wasteful but it's great because I can always get a drink to go after my meal.
The only thing I would recommend here is there X.O Sauce Udon or their Baked Bolognese Spaghetti. The rest of the menu is rather bland and mediocre. Believe, I love my share of cantonese style cafes but Boston has really gone downhill. If you want better quality, head over to their other restaurant on Azusa.
Pros: fast, to-go cups
Cons: meh food, and you can pass on their high tea -

I feel like i go here almost every week. This place is great. The place isnt like super super clean. The service isnt like superstar service but the food is fantastic and a good value for what it is. In my book, that makes this place a winner :D
Things I have had and would recommend are:
Singapore noodles
Yang Chow Fried Rice
Fried Salt and Pepper Squid/Calamari
Beef Chow Fun (dry style)
Curry
Won Ton noodles
Hand Shredded Chicken rice
Baked Pork chop rice -

Ehh...
I don't know about this place. I usually cant find place that can make really good Cantonese styled food.
The service is really slow here and the food is average...almost dull.

Food's about the same as Garden Cafe next door, although Garden may not have the $30 surf-n-turf. If they can make a won ton noodle soup that I'm happy with (w/plenty of veggies), then they have my business. An extra star for staying open late (till 4am on weekends!)
Good job with the interior decor too, you can't tell that it used to be a KFC (unless you look at it from outside.) -

Boston kitchen... I would give it 4 stars. why? CAUSE.... its freakn good for its price. My boyfriend and I go here for lunch quite often, since not only is it cheaper than other cafes near by ( during lunch), I know for a fact, but they're really quick with bringing out the food, and PORTIONS ARE HUGE. We're always able to bring food home for a fer-filling dinner. How great is that?!
**great addition is their complementary soup**
I love it, its actually a soup that taste great, and looks healthy for you. THATS FREE. There's actually big chucks of pork in there that's been cooking in the soup for hours. [ unlike other soups that have scraps of junk in there] -

This place is ok for Cantonese Chinese food. We ordered the backed pork chop over rice which seemed to be what everybody was ordering that night. It was hot and I liked how it was mini "individual" pork chops versus just two huge ass pieces. Definitely made it easier to share. We also ordered the won ton "lo mien" which I thought was just mediocre and nothing special...
Decent place with no WOW factor, but fair prices. -

I am ok with the food...but i am not ok with the cleanliness of this place.
i was here late one night, their cooks were smoking in the kitchen, and the entire restaurant smelled like second hand smoke :/ not very appetizing. sooo... if u can handle that, the food isn't too bad. I much rather go to Boston Café tho. it's less than 5 min away, on azusa. it's cleaner and is a more comfortable atmosphere for a quick dinner. -

Review from Abbe W.
This restaurant used to be KFC conveniently located at the corner of Batson and Colima. Looks like the grand opening is pretty recent. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. It's mid size restaurant.
This place serves Hong Kong Cafe style food, usual Chinese a la carte dishes and Hot Pot Rice (Poh Jai Fan). We took the largest table just before 7pm hit. Since we were starving, we didn't go for Poh Jai Fan since it takes at least 20 minutes to prepare. Instead, we ordered a variety of HK Cafe style dishes:
Beef Stir Fry noodles (Kon-Chow-Ngao-Hor) - very good!
XO fried rice - excellent. I love this dish.
singaporean fried vermicelli - the only disappointing dish. Strong curry smell but not evenly mix. Some part were salty and some part were extremely blend.
Cripsy noodles chow mein (liong min wong) - very good.
Indonesian Seafood Chow Hor - this is the first time I heard the dish. Good spiciness to it however I feel it's a little blend. Other dishes tends to overpower it.
oven baked cheesy seafood on rice - it's a nice mix of cheesy and seafood on rice. However, I am not used to cheese on rice so it kinda got to me!
pork chop with spaghetti - nice and tasty.
There were 7 of us and 7 dishes. Huge portion and none of us could finish it. We will be eating the leftovers for our lunch at work! I would go back again and check out Poh Jai Fan when I am not starving and need refuel right away. -
Review from Grace L.
As Cantonese Cafes go, this place is A-OK. Prices are good, food is greasy and hot and served quick. Tip is minimal... good eats cheap prices.
Came here with the BF and ordered to-go last night I highly recommend the Squid and lettuce wraps (appetizer) for about 7.95. The Garlic Spare Ribs are pretty delicious and plentiful for 6.95. I don't recommend the Beef Ho Fun with XO Sauce. It was bland and boring! People don't usually get noodles wrong but they did and didn't even put enough hot sauce flavor in the XO Sauce to make it taste good!
It's a great place to eat other than the noodle dish, everything that other customers were eating looked delicious-o as well and the place was pretty full for 8:30 on a wednesday night. I think I would choose Garden Cafe over this, but very comparable. -

So I'm from the SGV; the land of canto cafes..so I head over to Rowland to see what the heights has to offer. And my conclusion is that it has nothing on us.
We walk in at like 8, there's no one in the store. Cool right? The waiter seats. And proceeds to do his own thang. My dad, who is a frequent canto style breakfast consumer, is familiar with this particular server's bad service.
So, we just leave and head over to garden ...they are much more professional. But sorry Rowland, we have a garden too. I'm just going to save myself the 20 minute drive in the morning and eat at the HK cafes in the SGV.
Sorry I can't give a review on the food, I'm sure it's delicious and heart attack inducing.
PS: Boston kitchen, garden is OG. Don't mess -

For all the HK-style cafe around Rowland Heights, Boston Kitchen I'll rank it as my tied at 2nd/3rd, cause It's sister restaurant Boston Cafe on Azusa Ave would be the one at the same level. Sometime Boston Cafe is better, sometime Boston Kitchen is... really depends on what you plan on ordering :-)
Hmm what am I to yelp about this place... being a Chinese myself, not much. Typical selection of dishes and a fair-to-good quality of food (depending what you are ordering). Service is... just as you expected from a HK-style cafe. Period~
My top choice among -ALL- the HK-style cafe around Rowland Heights would definitely goes to Red Ant Cafe!!! I only came to Boston because parking over at Diamond Plaza for Red Ant Cafe is a *MEGA*NIGHTMARE*...... -

This is the sister restaurant of Boston Cafe. Boston Kitchen is located outside of Hong Kong Plaza. There's not a lot of space inside the restaurant... around 18-20 tables. But the food isn't too bad, not too expensive either. The service wasn't bad, but then... the boss was there watching =P
Won ton noodle soup was ok, but still doesn't taste like HK style. I kinda like their HK Style milk tea... with free refill. I like their spicy pepper chicken wings/calamari combo. Their seafood crispy pan fried noodle was good too. -

Yeah I'm confused about why it's called Boston Kitchen, but I ain't gonna question it.
I've come here several times before and I'm pretty satisfied with the quantity of food they give for the price! It's also all pretty good food, although the first few times I came here tasted really amazing versus the last few times... I'm not sure if it's because I'm just getting a little tired of the food or because it really just isn't as good as it used to be. Shrug!
Service is okay, and we normally never have to wait long. As people have mentioned, it is a little weird that this used to be a KFC, because it even still has a driveway around the restaurant where the drive-thru used to be. Shrug!! I recommend this place :B -
Review from Michael T.
Los Angeles, CA
The wife and I went here for some early Saturday morning breakfast. We had heard that it was a standard Canto cafe with sandwiches and soups and decided to give it a try. For two people, the wait wasn't very long but there was definitely a full house as every table was filled with more people waiting by the door for a seat.
If you really look closely, the layout is KFC-like. If they still have the fryer equipment in the back, think of the possibilities! Booths by the walls and the center for separate tables and chairs. The table arrangement is a bit cramped and my chair was bumped a couple times. Not a big deal.
The service wasn't too bad. The waitress got our orders fast but it was a little longer than usual for the food to come out. We both ordered a simple ham and macaroni soup and I got the Peanut Butter French Toast while the wife got the egg and spam sandwich.
The macaroni was good and didn't get soggy in the soup as it sometimes happens. I gotta say I the Peanut Butter French Toast was incredible. Crispily (yeah, not a word but it works here) toasted all around and the center was a creamy peanut butter spread. Pour some maple syrup on it and you've got heaven! Or as a twist, my wife poured sweet milk on it and that was just as good. Her egg and spam sandwich was also decent. Nothing fancy but not bad either. She likes that there's minimal crust and maximum white bread. Wash it down with some milk tea or Chinese tea and you've got yourself a breakfast.
The price I thought was decent. Approx. $10 for two person breakfast. We'll probably come back to try lunch or dinner menu. Definitely try the peanut butter toast when you have the chance!
