I can't thank Yelper Sara S. enough for introducing me to the Boston Kebab House! As a person with not just a bunch of food allergies, but also a fear of pretty much anything considered daring or different concerning food, I would have never stopped in there on my own.
Not only is everything really inexpensive (you can easily spend less than $10 for lunch and get a huuuuuge plate full of food), but you have a ton of choices as to what to eat - and your tummy will thank you later for whatever you do decide! At the meze bar, you can fill up a container to your heart's content and pay by weight. And let me tell you - the meze bar is stocked with all sorts of goodies! You don't have to worry about not being too familiar with the cuisine, because they have labels for everything and they even place certain items next to one another as a subtle suggestion that they go well together.
You can also order off the menu (on a board behind the registers), and they even have deli sandwiches and pizza and things like that. I don't know if I'll ever try those, but it's certainly something to note.
Make your own kebabs? Yes, please! The hot menu is superb and you can probably visit the Kebab House over two hundred times and get something different every time - that's how extensive the menu is. And if you are not hooked by the price, the vast menu, or the way you can do it all yourself, then I think the service will reel you in. Friendly people who are happy to answer your questions. Service with a smile. You can't beat it.
I have eaten here twice. The first time I had a 'make your own' salad. It is hard for an establishment to mess this up and I enjoyed the experience. Many choices and the price is very reasoanble.
Today at lunch I tried the Doner Kabab. I lived in France for a year and I'm used to eating the real deal. Today's kabab was horrible. The lamb was fine but the sandwich was totally uninspired. The only filler used was lettuce, maybe a chunk of tomato here and there, with a mildly garlic, but mostly bland cream sauce. No hot pepers, no onions, no pickled turnip. I was VERY DISSAPOINTED and will not be going back. I even dragged a friend along and was embarrassed. I don't what all the positive reveiwers were eating but it certainly wasn't what I ate.
Not bad.
We got food from here today for lunch. We didn't eat there - place was PACKED!!! At least they have a big seating area downstairs.
Kind of confusing when you show up. We placed our order over the phone for pick up, but when you get there, you really just have to muscle your way up front and ask if they have your food.
We got a ton of different things, and everyone pretty much liked what they got. I had the lamb kebab wrap thing. Messy. Not bad. The meat was... OK. Cooked fine. Not as fatty as I feared, but still a bit tough. Thing fell apart as I ate it. Wraps - they always do that.
Other people got meat platters or wraps and they all seemed to like it. A few remarked that we would order from here again. Which I suppose we will...
My coworker Kate P. gets lunch here often, and it always looks so good, so I had to try it out! Luckily she went with me because it's a little intimidating, but follow the person in front of you and you'll be all set. The salad options are seriously endless! I got the best salad with tons of veggies- raw and cooked. It's so cheap too! I definitely will be back. The guy at the end of the counter told me if I had any questions to follow Kate cause "she's the boss." Fun times!
The meze bar is the way to go for me! I especially LOVE the fried eggplant slices and the eggplant cubes with the tomato. Plus, usually when you go to a "buffet" style place, you pay an arm and a leg... not so here---- I LOAD up my to-go container and pay right under or around $7 every time. And the max you can ever pay is $10--- amazing!!
Thanks to the wisdom of experienced Yelpers before me, I knew to ignore the line of salad customers to my left, and to head right in and straight towards the Meze buffet bar on my first lunch visit. Every item at the buffet was well labeled, which is especially useful to someone who isn't super-familiar with the cuisine.
We selected the plastic take-out container over the compartmentalized styrofoam box in hopes of being able to fit in more food. We stuffed it full of tons of cold and hot foods (well, a couple of pounds anyways) and paid at the single cash register dedicated to the Meze bar. The lady there was pleasant, and didn't hesitate to give me a second serving of their flat bread when I asked.
With our box full of food, we headed downstairs to a nice bright room and went at it. By the time our tummies were full, there was still enough left for a decent sized snack.
Basically, the food was pretty good - the spinach moist and tasty, the meat tender, and I liked their falafel. So much more to try another time though, because we couldn't fit everything into our box on this trip.
Notes -
1) Bathrooms available downstairs (one person at a time per gender)
2) The cashier handed us plastic wrapped fork/knife/napkin/salt & pepper, but the plastic utensils available downstairs were a lot more solid
3) $9.95 maximum for a selection of meze is a great way to get a variety of food
Yummy Yummy Yummy
I got Boston Kebab House Make-Your-Own-Salad in My Tummy!!
I had chicken, tuna, green peppers, roasted red peppers, banana chips, dried cranberries, cucmbers, croutons, and two different kinds of lettuce.
Mmm Mmm Good! And know I can use my receipt for a dollar off my salad tomorrow!
As I sit in the lower level of Kebab House, in awe of my custom-made (HUGE) salad, I think to myself, "Kebab House vs. Sultan's Kitchen. They are very similar. Both Turkish. Both fresh ingredients, many of the same menu items. Is there a connection between the two?". Then I look over and read a Boston Globe article hanging on the wall, mentioning that one of the two owners of the Kebab House worked at Sultan's Kitchen for five years. Makes sense now!
So if Sultan's Kitchen and Kebab House had an all-out brawl, who would win? Kebab House takes the gold metal. Here's why.
1.) Lots and lots of seating.
2.) Best salad station in the financial district because: has spinach as a salad option, every single type of nut, dried fruit, and salad dressing possible. Many Middle Eastern mix-ins including falafel and grape leaves. Doesn't charge extra for chicken.
3.) Meze bar, where you can fill an entire container full of any Middle Eastern dip, spread, salad, and fritter for $10.
4.) Custom kebab station, where you can pick what meat and two/three different salads or rices to put in the wrap.
5.) No credit card minimum.
6.) Ability to pre-purchase a Kebab House "credit card" and save 25% off every purchase!
7.) Cheaper and faster than Sultan's Kitchen.
This is my new favorite salad spot in the Financial District, hands down. I love Sebastian's and that was my go-to salad spot, but they have been dethroned by Kebab House! I can't wait to try everything else and fill my belly with Turkish delight at least once a week.
Everyone talks about how cheap and delicious the salads are and how great the meze bar is, but I think it's also important to note how friendly everyone is who works here! Not only do I get a really great salad on the fly, but the service at the Kebab House is great.
Have you noticed the people in the Financial District are looking fatter these days? It's because of Boston Kebab House. This place is so freaking good. I just had the Tandori Chicken Plate, which was a special. It was the most tender delicious chicken I've had in many moons. The meze salad bar looked awesome...I purchased enough hummus, grape leaves and artichoke salad to feed 6 people. All of that, plus my lunch was under $20.
I must boycott you now so I don't weigh 200 pounds by October...
4 Stars works. I went back for lunch yesterday and got myself a LAMB KEBAB.
It was delicious, perfectly cooked, and this one didn't fall apart.

I finally walked by this place when the lunch isn't out the door. Wise decision Josh. Wise… Read more »
LOVE this place. For what it is - a cheap, quick lunch spot - they do it well. Although their salads are good, (how can they not be, you tell them everything that you want in it?) I'm not a salad person so I go for their kebabs. They're HUGE, healthy-ish, and they taste real and totally unprocessed. Not to mention once you figure out their buying system the whole place is really efficient, that's important.
Great place for an authentic lunch experience. Must try doner, other kababs are good , too.
I had such high hopes for this place, as I looove Falafel king and was hoping to find a similar but closer option. Unfortunately, this was a miss.
I got the $12 combo plate which comes with: Doner (marinated leg of lamb), Kofte (ground lamb and beef patties), chicken shish kebab, lamb shish kebab, with some greens, rice, pita and cous cous. The Doner and Kofte were soo dry and salty I had to douse it in yougurt sauce, which quickly ran out. The pita was beyond dry and tasted like cardboard. Guess I'll continue to make the hike to Falafel King...
I only get the gyro here but you get your choice of yogurt sauce or hummus. It is packed full of goodies: sliced lamb/beef, tomato, onion, red cabbage and lettuce. Delicious. So delicious. OMG I want another one just writing this review!
I havent tried the salad bar, but my co-worker loves it. Two choices of a protein, 3 different types of greens (mix, mesclun and another one) and as many salad toppings you want. There is always a line for the salad bar but it moves very quickly!
Super reasonable prices (my total lunch was $8.80...gyro and a can of soda) and you get a $1 coupon on the bottom of every receipt. The sitting area gets filled quickly so you may want to get there early.
LOVE THIS PLACE. Turkish style kabobs are almost just as good as Greek style kabobs.
I wanted a salad for lunch. Not a punk-ass salad, but a serious, throw a little bit of everything in there salad. Sick of paying close to $8 at Sebastian's, I wandered down to Boston Kebab House after getting a couple thumbs up from co-workers. The line and ingredients bar was a little intimidating, but in Boston that's usually the sign of a well-run operation. So a small salad is $5.75 (ish), regardless of what you throw in there, so I went nuts with the toppings. Why not! I get back to my desk and discover that romaine lettuce apparently means "mostly iceberg with 3 lettuce butts in there just to piss you off". Oh hellz no. I didn't pay 6 bucks for lettuce butt (you know what I'm talking about, I just can't think of the name for it...lettuce ends??). So gross. And it was drowning in dressing, making the whole damn thing a soggy, soggy mess.
Sorry Kebab House, back to Sebastian's I go!
Simply one of the best, tastiest meals in the financial district. Prices are competitive with other quick downtown lunch spots, but the food's so much more interesting: truly delicious chicken kofte, great falafel, spinach fritters (!), and hell, why not finish that off with some baklava? To top it off, the place itself is really attractive and has a great downtown sitting area where you can escape from the madness outside and unwind for a bit. For an extra couple of bucks, the plate is worth it: the rice and shepherd's salad are both legitimately really delicious, and the pita comes with this delicious yoghurt dipping sauce. You will leave NOTHING on the plate. Friendly staff, interesting and authentic food, great location. Yep. Winner. Can't really go wrong here.
In the corporate land known as Post Office Square, filled with overstuffed suits and financial types, it's hard to find a place to eat that is not so utterly mainstream it makes your teeth hurt.
My first day here, I walked right around the corner from my office and found the Boston Kebab House. I then ate there every single day for the rest of that week.
Why?
Everything I ate was so good and homey and flavourful and better than anything I could produce...maybe ever
Lentil Soup - not too oily, fragrant, and HOT (not spicy - heat hot)
The Meze bar is unbelievable - falafel, sauteed spinach, collard greens, bean salads, hummous, each with its own delicate flavour nuances. The cilantro in the black beans really stands out, the spinach pie is garlicky and almost sweet - different to spanikopita, but tasty in its own way (no filo pastry, for a start)
On top of that, the restaurant offers kebabs, generous sandwiches, plates, wraps, salads (totally reasonably priced) and some traditional desserts.
Plus, each receipt has a $1 off coupon on the bottom, meaning ya gotta pay attention and the savings mean I get lunch for $3 sometimes.
Totally brilliant place.
When my office moved downtown recently, we were discussing the decent places to eat in the area (based on our experiences with previous jobs located downtown). Although it's a bit far from my office, Boston Kebab House was on the list, so I stopped in today while on another errand. I was in a hurry so just got a falafel wrap -- my go-to sandwich because it's always vegan by default -- which was good. I thought it was a bit pricey but perhaps $7.25 is what sandwiches cost these days.
They also have a salad and hot entree bar. I didn't see the price but it looked better than most downtown salad bars.
This place has continually improved until reaching near-perfection for a quick lunch option in the Financial District. They recently added a rotating selection of hot entrees to the choose-your-own, mix-and-match meze bar. The build-your-own-salad is so cheap, it's ridiculous.
The best part about this place, which far too few people seem to realize or take advantage of, is that YOU CAN HAVE EVERY MEAL HERE FOR 20% OFF! Sorry for yelling, but I feel strongly about it! Plus, aren't you glad I'm trying to save you 20%?!
Here's how:
If you buy a Boston Kebab House (BKH) Card from them for $40, they put $50 on it. Now everything on the menu is 20% off! The build-your-own-salad is listed as $5.24; you only pay $4.20 for it! If you work in the area, even if you only eat out once every week or two, the BKH card is a great deal and well worth paying $40 up front for it.
I think the best options are anything (wrap, sandwich, salad, or entree) with the chicken kofte kebab (basically, a specially spiced chicken sausage) or the regular chicken kebab. The bulghur wheat (like rice) is the best side.
Also, like everywhere else in the Financial District don't go right at 12 pm. I eat late lunches, so this never impacts me.
The only two provisos: there are better choices in the area for falafel, and their Turkish version of a gyro leaves much to be desired.
I'm a falafel wrap devotee. It's delicious! A little less falafel than Falafel King in Downtown Crossing but this rollup is tastier and doesn't crumble.
They have consistently fast and friendly service. It gets a little crowded in there at lunchtime but that's a testament to the quality of Boston Kebab House. There's seating downstairs but also quick walk to Post Office Square or the Greenway for sunny day lunches. Try it!
Yes, I'd like egg whites, grape leaves, spinach, sundried tomatoes, AVOCADO, kidney beans, black beans, gorbanzo beans, lentils, cheddar cheese, blue cheese, feta cheese, pecans, almonds (sliced and whole), banana chips, apple, corn, peas, sliced tomato, whole cherry tomatoes, falafel, tuna, chicken, buffalo chicken, and sometimes salmon in my salad.
And this list is about half of what they offer. F'ing A!
P.S. skip the bread, unless you're in need of a new puck for your downtown street hockey league.

This place can be an amazing lunch find, if you do it right. First, find a friend (this always makes for a good lunch) who likes middle eastern food as much as you do. Walk over to the kebab house. Ignore the huge line out the door, it's just for the non-meze salad bar. Ignore the signs on the walls advertising kebabs, schawarma, and doner, if you can, and grab one salad tray.
Middle eastern food is heavy, and you pay ~$7 a pound, but here's the kicker- there's a $10 price cap. This is where your friend comes in. Have him/her tag out and go downstairs to scout a table while you forage.
Mmmmm, hummus. It's heavy, but you're working the system, so stack it up. Little fried dumpling things? Why not? Baba ganoush, don't forget the pita, oh look olives! Some sort of spinachy thing. Grape leaves! Pack that thing tight, put some light-looking stuff on the top in an attempt to preserve your dignity, and look surprised when the table under the scale creaks under the weight. Pay your $10, grab napkins and an extra fork for your wingman, and go have a seat downstairs to enjoy the fruits of your pillage, having thoroughly sacked the once-mighty Ottoman Empire.
The only thing I had here which I didn't find palatable was the grape leaves... whoever made those things had a heavy, heavy hand with the rose water, and it tasted like I was munching on some old lady's over-perfumed shawl. Everything else? A bargain for $5, and probably a bargain for twice that.
Boston Kebab House has seen some major changes in the last year- a new trendy tossed salad bar (which I haven't tried yet) and an amazing, fabulous, incredible self-serve meze bar (I could use more adjectives, but will save you from reading the long sentence). If it wouldn't render me completely broke every week I'd totes eat here every day- rockin' it Mediterranean style. It's a little slice of vegetarian heaven.
I like to go between 11 and 11:30 to avoid the crowds and get my little plastic container filled with:
hummus
stuffed grape leaves
artichoke fritters
muhamarra!!!!
tabbouleh
shepard's salad (cucumber, tomtao, red onion, olive oil)
these red lentil things
yogurt w/ dill
fried potato salad
And there are even more options that that. The basics are there every day- but sometimes some new stuff, like today- a feta and spinach bread pastry thing.
Another new addition: a "frequent boston kebab obsessive card" where your 10th meze bar purchase is free. I like free stuff. I like free stuff even better when it's freakin' good. Two more purchases until I get my free meal. I'll save it for a rainy day.

I can't believe I've been working here for six months without knowing about the meze bar. This ends my quest for a yummy, healthy, moderately sized lunch. Actually it can get pretty big if you're not watching out because everything is delicious looking. Do get red lentil kofte, hummus, babaganoush, white bean salad, eggplant fritters and marinated asparagus. It's $6.99/lb, or they allow you to stuff a container for $9.99, but the beautiful thing is getting to create a delightful little $4 lunch when you're not overly hungry.
I was not feeling moderate today, however. I got the lamb kebab plate for $9.50. I hurried back to my office with the container heavy in hand, the heavenly scent of grilled meat wafting out. It was really awesome. There was actually not an excessive amount of meat, but the box was overstuffed with salad and two delicious kinds of rice.
BKH has a cute, cheery interior and friendly servers who give out dollar off coupons for next time. I can't stop coming here.
Yum yum yum!!!
$5 for a big pile of deliciousness? Yes please! Seriously, go with a friend, pile all your favorite middle eastern goodies in the big plastic container, split the $10 bill, go downstairs and scarf yourself silly! You will love it, as long as you're not one of those weirdos whose foods can't touch...then you may not...
Last time I came here I left with a very full belly and no buyer's remorse (very rare for this part of town). Not a bad deal! I do do wish some of the foods were hot (or at least warm) but whatevs, it is still delicious and totally worth the price!
The hummus, roasted eggplant, fritters, mushrooms (omg!), & crunchy falafel are so so good... the ambiance downstairs is also fun...interesting paintings, good music, and it's CLEAN!
Love!
If you're looking for some serious kebably goodness, complete with hairy-chested lebanese men (and women...?), stop what you're doing and hop, skip, and/or jump to Boston Kebab House. This place is the real deal.
I'm not into stuffed grape leaves or heaping plates of miscellaneous Mediterranean goop, but man oh man I am always satisfied with the food here. People rave about the salads and I'm definitely a believer. All their plates have hefty portions and I've never spent more than $10 here. A decent value for the Financial District.
Be sure to bring your passport. You may need it for reentry when y ou return from your cultural expedition.
hands down best overall meal in town. i've been a fan of this place since 2006, and despite their 5 day a week business hours, i always consider this my top choice to go for a meal whenever i'm downtown.
the service is great; the owner, levant is extremely friendly, and one of the chefs, osman are the two icons of this little joint.
For all ye Muslims out there, there is a little musalla in the basement in case youre running short on time and need to offer up duhr and asr.
My only reason for holding back 5 stars is the weekday only hours.
Yum. Yum. Yum.
Boston Kebab House is literally as good as it gets. Here's what I like:
1) Affordable salad bar with premium toppings like pecans and pomegranate dressing.
2) Self-serve meze bar, weighed by the pound (because I need to have complete control over my portions of tasty muhammara, hummus and artichoke fritters).
3) Some tasty-looking entrees (I haven't gotten there yet).
4) Overall compatibility with both carnivores and vegetarians (key for my diverse lunchtime group at work).
5) Plentiful seating, so I don't have to go back to my workplace and eat in the breakroom if I don't wanna.
6) Proximity to pretty Post Office Square for picnic days.
You really can't get much better than that for the Financial District.
I was really, really bored at work one March day and decided to go on a walk for something sweet. After wandering downtown for half an hour, I happened up this place, tucked away in a corner storefront in the architecturally delightful Liberty Square. I had already stared at a bunch of lunch place menus, finding only boring options. Then I saw baklava, which was something I hadn't had in a very long time, so I wandered on in. After my eyes adjusted to the bright green walls, I noticed there was a decent amount of seating downstairs with the kitchen upstairs; the menus were written on chalkboards. When I had got back to work and had the baklava, which was near perfectly balanced between pastry and honey, I knew I had to come back for lunch.
When I did come back for lunch, I was not at all disappointed. I ordered the Chicken kofte kebab wrap, which is ground, seasoned chicken patties and a veggie mix of cucumber, onion, red bell pepper and a little shredded red cabbage with an ample dousing of creamy basil sauce. Amanda got the grilled swordfish wrap and a sour cherry juice and I grabbed one of the small pomegranate juice bottles.
The anticipation was killing me, unwrapping the paper and foil to get to the goodness inside. Sure enough, it was delicious. The seasoned chicken, veggies and basil sauce came together and created one of the best lunches I had in a while. Ever though the two wraps and two drinks came just short of $20, it was a lunch that was well worth it, though maybe not an every day type of thing.
I got my food delivered from Boston Kebab House. The mezze was very good, but pretty average for a Middle Eastern place. The kebab was good but it was very dry. The pita bread was lackluster. I've definitely had better arabic food (my standards are probably too high because I grew up in the Middle East) but overall, the place wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Maybe I'll try eating at the actual restaurant sometime.
Mad choices, friendly and quick service, fresh ingredients and sizeable portions, plus they have tons of seating downstairs! I was a huge fan of Falafel King by the Common, but this joint is better.
For $8 at the salad bar today (it's by the pound) I got a green salad AND a spanokopita AND a zucchini fritter AND bean salad AND 2 falafels AND hummus AND some yummy veggies on the side AND pita bread.
I have lunch leftovers for tomorrow, which is basically unheard of for me and my voracious appetite.
Get thee to the Boston Kebab House!!
This is definitely my go-to place for falafel in the financial district. Not only is it super close to my office, but I am always satisfied with the consistency of the food I get here.
Unlike many places downtown, the warps are never dry, which is a big plus when it comes to falafel. Also, the meze bar is a great deal with a ton of choices if you are just getting a snack. I actually prefer to come here in the off hours because they will often make the falafel for you, and nothing better than a fresh hot ball of chickpeas right?
Also the new salad bar is pretty awesome, tons of choices and it is pretty reasonable for what you will end up paying anywhere else around town. The other big plus is that it is, well, to put it nicely, just not sebastians.
This is another eatery near Post Office Square in Boston's Financial District. It has a nice seating area and is buzzing with activity during lunchtime. Patrons get a dollar-off coupon for each visit. Not a bad strategy. I was there a couple of times in the last couple of weeks.
Its decor was like any other typical Middle-eastern restaurant.
I tried the Chicken Kabob with Basil sauce. I had mine with Turkish bread. The portion was good and the taste was good, with the subtle taste of Basil
The second time I tried the Buffalo Chicken with Pita bread and it was good too. Worth the visit is my verdict.
Here is their official website.
PS: Their Shish Kebab is worth a try too.
big, tasty, quick & insanely affordable.
in essence, everything i want in a salad during peak lunch hours. during the weekends i pine.. PINE .. for the make your own salad bar. after coffee, its probably the first thing i think about when i walk into the office on monday morning. even the small is huge and it comes with limitless (!) veggies.. faves: mushrooms, avocado, sundried tomatoes, apples, eggplant, falafel (options start to dwindle for late lunchers) but i may never buy groceries again. sebastians & whole foods couldn't claim to be competition if they tried. i can't believe i walked past this place for so long!
pure bliss.
I love salads and when my co-workers mentioned about this place I had to try it out. They gave me a coupon for $1.00 off but it had already expired and told me to try it out anyway. The salad bar is set up right next to the entrance so the line is always out the door. The two sizes are small ($5.10) and the large ($6.10). You get two choices of protein and you pick the ingredients and the people behind the salad bar toss it for you. The salad comes with a huge slice of pita bread but I never eat it because it's been sitting in the bag for who knows how long. The service is fast the salad is decent.
They also have a self service meze bar and sandwiches and entress which I haven't yet try.
A plus about this place is they always give you a coupon for $1.00 off anything valid for a week. And they take expired coupons!
My co-worker told me about the tossed salads that this place served at lunch, and when I heard the prices, I was like no way!
I went early, and fortunately, there wasn't a long line yet (which I heard is quite normal on weekdays during lunch). I was rushed through the salad line by those pushing from behind and the chef salads eager to get the line moving, but despite the unpleasant line experience, I was rewarded at the end with a tasty salad! What's great is that the price includes two protein options and all the veggies you could ask for. Score!
If you're hunkering for salad in the financial district during lunch, make sure you make a beeline to this place. Worth it! (this coming from a very value-conscious eater). :)
I've been here twice now. Once for takeout, where I ordered a chicken salad sandwich on white, and to my distaste was served on what appeared to be wonder bread. And the second time this afternoon, when Liz and I were looking to escape Wackytown at work.
We both ordered the Chicken Kebab Special for $8.95. This consisted of two kinds of rice, hummus, falaffel, grilled chicken kebab, and syrian bread. While we waited, we munched on their new organic bread served with hummus which was pretty phenomenal. We took our tasty meals downstairs, which was fairly crowded for 1pm and dove into a table. We began eating to notice "Let it Be" coming through the speaker in a foreign tongue, and then "Total Eclipse of the Heart" played loudly. I felt like I was in another dimension, but was totally loving it. The chicken was....while I hate to use the word, Ima hafta... "moist", the salad was undressed as I like, and the hummus spectacular!
Great place for a snack or lunch. The Kebab House is the best place to get a late afternoon snack that I have found. Grabbing a few things at the self serve bar only costs a few dollars and is sure to fill me up and get me through the day.
The salad bar, although a bit daunting at first, is an excellent lunch option. You can get a small for about $5 and load it up with all sorts of nuts, veggies and chicken, salmon... amazing. My only problem with so many options is making sure everything I choose tastes good together!
