Specialties
Boston Foundation for Sight (BFS) is an internationally renowned non profit eye healthcare organization. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for patients and families worldwide by transforming the understanding, treatment and care of complex corneal disease. We have pioneered a unique treatment model - prosthetic replacement of the ocular surface ecosystem (PROSE). For many of the thousands of patients with corneal conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (GVHD), dry eye syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, ocular trauma, complications of LASIK, or complications of cornea transplantation, PROSE can be the ideal, and sometimes only, treatment capable of restoring vision and dramatically reducing symptoms such as eye pain, dry eye, blurry vision and light sensitivity. No patient is turned away due to an inability to pay.
History
Established in 1992
Dr. Perry Rosenthal founded Boston Foundation for Sight in 1992 as a nonprofit corporation, because he believed that his innovative treatment for complex corneal disease should be made available to all who could benefit from it, regardless of their ability to pay. Since that time, BFS has remained on the cutting edge of research and innovation into complex corneal disease treatments and is a recognized world leader in the field. BFS has restored sight and dramatically reduced symptoms such as dry eyes, eye pain, and light sensitivity to many individuals suffering with corneal diseases, including keratoconus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, chronic ocular graft versus host disease, severe dry eye syndrome, and complications from LASIK or corneal transplantation. PROSE partner clinics have opened up in Manhattan; Ann Arbor, MI; Chicago; Houston and San Antonio, TX; and Los Angeles; as well as India and Japan, with more to come! Please see our website for more information.
