UPDATE: Apparently they were just faking me out for my first two appointments.  The four since then they have taken me anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes late.  The hygienist was pretty good, but the reason that I raved in my original review was they actually ran on time, and now they don't! They were still pretty fast once they took me back.

But the receptionists.  Ohhh, the receptionists.  Now I understand, other reviewers! The receptionists are fine about a quarter of the time.  Other times, one's on the phone, one's messing with files, and I wait 10 min for someone to check me out.

And there was this mess of a billing dispute where they kept sending me unexplained bills for "account transfer," would never call me back to explain them, and their billing specialist's voicemail was full.  It took months to sort out, and turned out that when they changed accounting software there was a mistake, and I owed nothing.  Oops! So sorry about the half dozen bills you received.  Jeez, what if I'd paid them?

I've been coming to Boston Dental for over 7 years now and have seen them go through a lot of changes. The sophistication of their medical devices has been greatly enhanced over the past couple years and now I would guess they use mostly cutting edge technology for the majority of their routine services.  One consistency during my tenure has been Oscar, who does a great job with my 6 month cleanings. I have absolutely no problems with any of his services. He is cordial and extremely professional, and I'm comfortable knowing he'll do a great job and give me an honest, thorough analysis of my dental situation.

I have only used Boston Dental for cleanings and a couple fillings. Based on those procedures I definitely recommend them if you have a DMO or location constraints that make their office a practical choice.

Solid experience.  I think I prefer Boston Dental over Faneuil Hall Dental since they have a more modern office and seem to employ better technology.

RE: the reception staff, I noticed a few Yelpers pissed with reception. I can't say anything but good things - responsive via phone/email & no Enron math with billing.

Would have been 5 stars, but I'm conditioned to not like Dentists.

Stay away from this place. Completely disorganized and unprofessional. I needed an emergency root canal & was scheduled to come in for one with pre-approval from their general dentist.

I received two harassing phone calls the morning of where the receptionist didn't even know what time it was but was calling to tell me that I was already late. Seriously? She apologized when she realized that she really had no clue as to the time.

I arrived to my appointment on time & was sat in a chair so that X-rays could be taken. The X-ray technician couldn't get the bite wings in the right position & the x-rays didn't come out right. He kept on blaming me for moving.... Which I did not.

The endodontist became inpatient & showed him how to position the bite wing. A whole 7 minutes had passed & he started saying that I wouldn't be treated that day because he didn't have enough time. WTF!?! I scheduled an emergency root canal & he said they had already spent too much time on the X-rays? 7 minutes is too much time?

The worst part is that the office required that I prepay for half of the root canal & this guy sends me home with directions to take Tylenol for the pain until he could see me two weeks later.

Absolutely terrible experience. I made an appt with another local office who could not believe how I had been treated.

The endo & his staff were crass & unprofessional.

In just 21 years, I've had my fair share of bad experiences with dentists.  I had a cavity not being properly fixed when I was 11, which lead to a root canal when I was 12.  The root canal was not properly done, which means I need to get the root canal redone now after 10 years.  Furthermore, a lot of my visits to dentists were painful, and I rarely went back within a year just because I disliked it so much.

That was just some background story so you understand where these 5 stars come from.  Here is how my experience went with Boston Dental.

I e-mailed on a random evening to request an appointment for a cleaning for a Friday.  I e-mailed Wednesday, so it was a short notice.  They replied early in the morning informing me there was a spot open for that same Friday.  I called them and confirmed the appointment, gave them my dental insurance information, and was all set.  I brought in some forms the morning of the appointment that were e-mailed to me, so I was all set as soon as I walked in.

The hygienist called me right on time and took me to get some X-Rays, then went through the x-rays with me and showed me exactly what she was seeing, so I could understand what she was mentioning.  She expressed some concerns and told me the dentist would evaluate everything later on.  She proceded to do the cleaning which was great, I have no complaints at all.

My dentist, Dr. Khorashadi, was great.  She looked at the x-rays and my teeth and confirmed much of what the hygienist had said.  She suggested a lot of follow up work, which I was expecting by this point because of the issues the hygienist had mentioned.

In the end, I was told to come back to fix some cavities, pull out my wisdom teeth, fix the 10 years old root canal, and put a crown on the tooth.  They gave me an itemized receipt that showed just how much each procedure would cost, and the receptionist was super helpful in telling me the options I had to reduce cost (choosing metal fillings vs. white fillings) and the implications.  She also told me what procedures I should prioritize and which I could leave until later if I wanted to.

I fixed my cavities exactly a week after, and Dr. Khorashadi was excellent.  Not only did she made the procedure painless (which was a big surprise for me), she talked to me for a while before and during the procedure and was even fun.  Now, that's a word I've never used to describe a dentist before.

I highly recommend Dr. Khorashadi for any procedure, and also Bouchra Roustomi was great during my cleaning.  They were both very professional and made me feel at ease and relaxed.  I can say this is the first time I felt well taken care of by my dentist and I will definitely be back to Boston Dental for any future routine and follow-up work I may need.

** Edit:  I've seen quite a few complains with pricing.  I would say that dentists usually don't know how much something will cost you, because they are not the ones that work with your coverage to figure out the patient cost.  However, the front desk receptionist is great at helping you figure this out.  If you are given choices once you are in the room, and they tell you it may cost a little more, I would automatically add $200 to my bill in my head before making any decisions on the fly.  Otherwise, I would let the front-desk lady tell me exactly what it would cost me if I choose a procedure with a particular option.  They give you the cost of the procedure and the amount that is covered by your insurance plan so you know how much you'll end up paying.

    I hope that's helpful.

Great dental professionals at this practice like Dr. Alice Cheng who did a wonderful job on my crown, Dr. Alyassi who did two of my root canals.I have had other work done by Dr. Bassett two extractions including a wisdom tooth. He explained every step and it ended up not being bad at all!

Oscar Saturno who did my cleaning and initial exam is always ready to answer questions and encourage an active role in your dental health.

    Four stars it is.

2nd visit went off without a hitch.  I showed up 10 minutes early and was cleaned, polished, and back on the street within 40 minutes.  I didn't even have any white-knuckle moments of fear.  Oscar is super professional, even when lecturing me on my labret.  You even get to wear fancy eye shields while they do the cleaning.

    Can't beat that.

A (no +, I mean it *is* a dental office) for providing a professional service in a timely, non-scurry manner.

Everyone at this office (assistants and dentists alike) are very professional, although some are more friendly than others. I had my teeth cleaned by a woman who did a fabulous job and was extremely nice.

Review about wisdom teeth consultation is right on-- Dr. Boustany is a busy man and terse for that reason, so most of your interaction will be with his assistants. However, when it came to getting my wisdom teeth yanked, he did a great job-- I told him I was nervous and he assured me and went as quickly as possible, giving me an extra anesthetic shot when I could feel one tooth being tugged. He even congratulated me on my behavior during the procedure.

All in all, everyone here knows what they're doing, so what more could you ask for when visiting the dentist? Also, I suppose I have good insurance because I never have to pay anything when I go, and they send out reminder calls for your appts.

Ack! I would give Boston Dental 0 stars if I could.

On my first visit, I got my teeth cleaned. A few days later, I had the first tooth infection of my life. Instead of doing the smart thing and getting it checked out somewhere else, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back. This second dentist didn't talk to me or ask me why I was back so soon, instead proceeded directly to look in my mouth, and then didn't see the swollen mess caused by the throbbing oozing infection. I had to tell her. She prescribed me some antibiotics and I went on my way.

And from there, my experience at Boston Dental just got worse. At my second cleaning, I was told that I needed to come back to get "a very small cavity" filled and was quoted just over $50. I scheduled the appointment and came back after a few days. I opted for the white filling instead of the silver, so I understood that it would cost a bit more than originally quoted. And then, after the novocaine, after the dentist already started drilling and my mouth was held open with a clamp, I was told that I needed a slightly more involved procedure that would "cost a little bit more."

I nodded and muttered something in agreement, didn't really have a choice. When I went to pay, the receptionist gave me a bill for over $200. And what ensued was the most absurd episode in customer service that I've personally experienced.

Unable to feel my tongue or speak properly, I had to tell the receptionist that I was told that I would only have to pay "a little bit more." Sure it was vague in the first place and I wasn't entirely sure what it meant, but four times more than my original quote?? The receptionist said sorry, but the insurance company does not consider it a necessary procedure. The dentist came over, I explained again that I was upset with the bill, and she said that she did what was medically necessary. Okay, forgetting the contradiction there, why did she say it would cost "a little bit more"? Oh, because it's not part of her job to know what things cost. Nicely played, dentist, nicely played.

I couldn't argue anymore. I couldn't feel my mouth, I felt utterly ridiculously with a waiting room full of people watching. I just wanted to leave and never go back.

I have not unreasonable expectations for my medical service providers to be honest, professional, and accountable, and, you know, free of bait and switch tactics. I am absolutely willing to pay any reasonable price for the sake of my health, so it's not about the money. Except of course it is. A few weeks later, I got an invoice from my insurance company showing that they covered more of the total than I was charged for. Of course, they never contacted me to correct it (not in line with their money gouging ways). The next time they called was to remind me of an upcoming cleaning appointment. And of course, I faithfully returned...just kidding. You know what they say, fool me four times...

So far, I've been to Boston Dental for two cleanings, a consultation for my wisdom teeth and a consultation for braces (yuck!). I have been to Gentle Dental, a few offices in Ithaca, NY and a place in Chelmsford, MA and this is the best office I've visited, although Gentle Dental is also good.

The cleanings are great. I've been to a few different dentists who either don't talk to me or make me feel bad about my teeth, no matter how I try to take care of them. This place is very encouraging and they give some great tips. They also have updated tools and techniques, which is promising.

The wisdom teeth consultation was terrible. The dentist I saw barely spoke to me. His assistant did all the talking. Needless to say, I will be going to see someone else for such a procedure.

The consult for braces was the best experience I've ever had in terms of a dentist office. The woman (who was leaving within a few months, so she might not be there anymore) spent a good amount of time explaining my options and recommending other offices I could also visit. She was very understanding that I may not be comfortable with certain types of dentists. She also took the time to explain why I have been getting conflicting feedback about my wisdom teeth, which was awesome because nobody has ever discussed this with me. She also had the office make copies of my x-rays for me to take for a second opinion.

The office staff is super friends, even if you are running a little late. The only other down side is that if you do not reschedule an appointment within 48hrs (and by 48hrs, they mean 48hrs), then you need to pay a $50 fee. I learned that the hard way, once.

I don't recommend street parking in this area. My car was stolen once. You should take the T.

Oscar is a five-star hygienist. In fact, he's the only reason I kept going back. The prices here are very high, and nothing ever seems to be covered by dental insurance. They also seem to fill the smallest of cavities as if you don't do it your mouth will decay the moment you walk out. I always feel like they are finding things to do just to bill me for them. That's not really a feeling you want to have.

I almost forgot to follow up on how great they were when my temporary crown  broke......and this was just a couple of hours after I called them and they had a spot for me. I always used to dread going to the dentist but the people are so pleasant and they are so good at not having you feel any pain at all.......going to the dentist almost becomes just another errand that I do instead of something that I used to dread and postpone.

I have been a patient at Boston Dental since I was six - no joke! It was great until the management change which happened a couple of years ago. They have been over charging me for the past year (keep getting bills my insurance has paid) and now aren't returning my calls in my attempt to resolve the issues. My insurance company is backing me up. I hope they can get it together or I'm going to have to find a new dentist.

Before my last visit, Boston Dental would have earned five stars.  It is convenient to my office so I can schedule cleanings during my lunch break and they're totally covered under my dental plan.  The dental hygenists are nice and efficient.  Oscar is my favorite - he is on time and gets me in and out of the office within 45 minutes.
A year ago I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. :(  I could have had it done at Boston Dental, but chose to go to an oral surgeon closer to my house since I would need someone to drive me to and from the appointment.  Boston Dental was super accomodating about referring me to to the oral surgeon.  They even let me pick up my xrays to bring with me on my consultation visit with the surgeon.
Fast forward to two weeks ago.  On my regular cleaning visit I was told that two of my fillings needed to be redone.  They were old and unfortunately cavities had started to grow around the fillings.  Oscar and the dentist informed me that it would cost $45 per visit and it would only take two visits to have this all squared away.  I made the appointments right then and there for the following week.  I saw a different denist at my first filling visit, who upon looking at my teeth, determined that the space on my tooth was actually larger than originally stated.  She informed me that the additional charge would be around $20.  Twenty bucks wasn't so bad and I already had the numbing gel in my mouth so I figured 'what the hell.'  The procedure went well - it took about 40 minutes to complete.  When I went to pay at the receptionist desk I was informed that my visit would cost $135.  What??!! I informed the receptionist that this was way above what I was quoted.  She just shrugged and claimed that was the price listed on my chart.  I reluctantly paid and then called the office two days later.  I spoke with another receptionist who explained that the difference in price was due to my dental coverage.  I explained to her that I was quoted $45, which is almost three times less than what I actually paid.  She understood my frustration and reason for canceling my second appointment and assured me that someone from the office would call to discuss my issue.  Two weeks later I have not received any phone call from Boston Dental, which is not only frustrating but unprofessional.  I am still deciding on whether or not I will continue going here for my cleanings as I am pretty upset at the lack of customer service and concern over peoples' wallets.
