Admittedly the idea of people doing stuff to my feet is terrifying to me. Admittedly I entered Dr. Szpiro's office with the idea that foot pain is just part of life.
I had avoided going somewhere for a long time. But I finally decided to go.
And I made the right choice. Not only was it right to go, but it was right to go to Dr. Szpiro. Not only is she clearly skilled at her craft, but her chair-side demeanor makes the whole experience actually pleasant. First time in my life I actually look forward to going to any doctor because not only will my issue be treated, but it will be treated with a smile. -

Something is not right with this place.
I hobbled in on crutches because of a sprained ankle and Dr. Szpiro examained me and said that a walking boot might help but that I would have to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed by insurance later. In my desperation i forked over the $200 for the boot and decided I would deal with reimbursement later.
Nine months later I finally get around to getting reimbursed for the boot and the insurance company tells me that I couldn't get reimbursed but to call Boston Common Podiatry to see if they were a "durable medical equipment provider contracted with HMO Blue". I called Boston Common Podiatry and a woman (who clearly didn't want anything to do with me) told me they were a durable medical equipment provider and I would get a call back about getting reimbused. I got a call back from a far nicer woman who said I never should have paid out of pocket for the boot and she wasn't sure why I was told that and that I would be getting a check from Boston Common Podiatry in the mail.
Now it's possible that Boston Common Podiatry never submitted a claim to the insurance company for the boot... but I doubt it. It's far more likely they got the money from the insurance company and were just waiting to see if was going to claim it. It's possible that it was a mistake but it was a mistake they never attempted to fix. These people are shady and are at best rude and at worst frauds.
PS. the walking boot actually made things worse. As my physical therapist informed me a sprained ankle should be kept mobil not restrained but how would a podiatrist ever know that? -

I had a dark bruise-like color underneath one of my toenails, so I went to my physician to get get a toenail culture. My doctor told me that it would take about a month to get the results, but that I should consider going to a podiatrist as well. Let me just cut to the chase and say that after my nightmare ordeal with Dr Szpiro, my culture came back negative and the bruise-like color, was actually just a bruise, not an infection.
Now, before I got these definitive results that I did not have an infection, I went to Dr Szpiro, so she could take a look. She insisted that I had a bad fungus and that I had to get a laser treatment done immediately. She said that since I was not on birth control and could potentially get pregnant, i would not be able to take oral medication and this had to be treated immediately. I agreed to the procedure (which cost about $1200) and agreed to get a $200 acrylic nail replacement in order to prevent the fungus from coming back after the laser treatment. During the procedure, Dr Szpiro removed my toenail, hit it with a laser and then applied an acrylic nail. She assured me the acrylic would not fall off....well, it fell off within one week. So I went back to get it replaced... at this time, she decided to watch a youtube video online about how to attach this nail and said she did it wrong last time and apologized (meanwhile, her staff accused me of "bumping my toe and forcing the acrylic to fall off.") So she reapplied it... well, it fell off again a week later and this continued until I just gave up on the acrylic. I was so frusterated that I had to continue to go back to her office every week to get this acrylic reapplied, when I never needed the procedure to begin with. I later learned that the acrylic is cosmetic and doesn't ward off infections at all, so I stopped getting it replaced. During this time, no one in her office ever even consider to compensate for their mis-diagnosis or the hassel of the acrylic. And, besides all of this, during our visit, Jordana Szpiro talked about how much money she makes and has, how unattractive her co-worker is, and her frivolous lawsuit against a local restaurant.
So, in brief, here are the things you should look out for: 1.) she misdiagnosed a bruise and said it was a fungus 2.) she didn't know how to properly apply an acrylic nail (after several attempts) that she insisted I needed 3.) she lied and said this acrylic prevents infections, when really (according to their website) it is purely cosmetic 4.) Unprofessional conversation 5.) Overpriced -

This review is directed toward the receptionist as I was never actually seen for my appointment.
I called and made an appointment with Dr. Szpiro. When I arrived for my appointment I was told I "wasn't even in the system" and that the Dr. was not even working at all today. I was given a "sorry" and told a new appointment for the week after. As I was leaving I thought it was odd that she never asked me for my information when making the new appointment. So I called back to make sure she did in fact make the appointment correctly this time. She spelled back my name to me without me even saying it. I then replied that I must have in fact been in the system. She told me yes, that I was in the "old" system (I made the appointment a week ago). I said so does the Dr. usually not work on Thursdays, I'm confused as to why I would have been given this time? She replied she does, but today she wasn't coming in until 11am. EXCUSE ME? She lied to my face 10 min ago saying she wasn't even working today!!! She specifically told me when I was in the office that "if the doctor was coming in she'd have me wait, but she wasn't working today". Then she says "well it could have been the girl we let go who made your appointment". After all of this lying I asked for the Doctor to call me directly. The response I get? "I can guarantee you she won't contact you about this". So basically they made a huge mistake, wouldn't even admit it and wanted nothing to with it. Sounds like a great doctors office!
I cancelled my appointment and I will not be returning! Pretty unprofessional office for being in downtown Boston. -

DO NOT GO TO THIS PODIATRIST. I REPEAT. DO. NOT. GO.
IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS, I WOULD. SHE IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL.
Let me fill you in on my experience with Dr. Szpiro. I began going to see her about 4 months ago. My feet were not in good shape. They are still not in good shape, 4 months later, and I'm out a bunch of money. I'm only sharing this as a warning: I don't enjoy telling people about my feet and their issues. But, I'd rather that than seeing people get screwed the way I did.
First visit, for toenail fungus on one toe -- the "Doctor" spotted a wart on my toe. She said she'd burn it off, and it'd be gone soon. She put acid all over my toe. For about 5 days I could not put sneakers on due to the enormous blister on my toe, but I was fine with that, because Doctors know best. I was in pain, but I was fine with it. She'd also given me medicine for toenails - that she sells for 30 dollars and you can get for 10 at CVS. Oh, did I mention, you can get acid at CVS too? I didn't know that then.
Next visit...hmmm...not gone yet. She asked me questions that caught me off guard...What medicine did I give you? What are you here for besides the wart? UMM...aren't I your patient? More acid on the wounded toe, another week of not being able to walk, go the gym, play soccer, etc, but I assumed this was normal.
We went through this for two months. Each week, the wart got BIGGER and SPREAD, and I was in more pain, but I figured this was normal. At this point, the wart has gone from a tiny dot, to a huge sprawling mess all over my toe. The Good Doctor tells me that next time, (this is the 5th visit and 3rd 50 dollar copay - for visits that last 5 mins) she'll just cut it out. I'm all for that, since for two months I've had a toe that throbs all day at work, and that kills when I put shoes on (I wore slippers to work for two months).
Next visit.
Her: What did I give you again for medicine? Oh yeah...How's it working? Then: Today I have to do this acid quick because I have a phone call to make.
Me: Um, you said you were going to cut it out?
Her: Oh, I did? No, that's not a good idea. We'll get it this time I bet.
Same thing. Two more painful weeks. And the one thing I came in for -- one toenail that wasn't looking good? Looks the same, thanks for her great medicine -- the one she can never remember giving me. Aren't you supposed to write this down?
Ah, now it gets good!
Go in. Wart is bigger. I'm in pain, again.
Her: Well, have you been using the acid-band-aids I gave you?
Me: Yes
Her: No, it doesn't look like it.
Me: Well, I have. I mean, they come off when I play soccer, but...
Her: It doesn't look like you use them.
Now, consider she's never given me any instruction on: using the bandaids, covering the blister on my toe, caring for it, or doing anything. I come in, she puts acid on me, and then I leave.
Her: Wow, it looks like it's spreading!
Me: Um, yeah.
Her: Hmm...We're gonna freeze it!
Me: What's that?
Her: It should work.
I had no idea what this meant, so I agreed.
Her: Woops. I caught some good skin there. Sorry. Not an exact science.
AREN'T YOU A %^&* DOCTOR???
I could not sleep for 3 nights. My toe was 4 times normal size and black and a disaster. Shooting pain all the time. My eyes were tearing. And I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I mean, this was insane. I couldn't wear shoes, and I walked with a limp for a week. The worst part is that the part that hurt the most was the part where she "missed" and seared my good skin.
Next Visit (and my last, I swear!)
Her: How did it go?
Me: well, it was really painful, actually.
Her: Well, hmm. It's still there.
Me: Yeah. Hey, can I just have a renewal of my presciption?
Her: (looking confused). What did I give you?
Me: Ummmm...You don't know??
Her: I wish I'd written it down.
Are you &*() Kidding me???? I'm paying for this? I'm paying A LOT for this!
Her: Well, time for more acid.
Me: Nope. No way.
Her: what? (she reaches for my toe)
Me: (I pull away). No!
Her: Oh...Well, just go to CVS and use the acid there.
Me: OK....
Her: I mean, it's almost gone.
Me: sure it is.
Her: Here's a different prescription (which I found out yesterday was 250 dollars).
Me: wow. thanks.
Her: well, come back whenever you can have the acid.
Guess what? I went to CVS, and the wart is almost gone. I spent about 600 dollars on this FOR NOTHING. She lost my prescriptions, had no idea what my patient status was, was rushed the entire time, never did what most normal doctors do: GIVE YOU CHOICES ON TREATMENT! (i WOULD HAVE SAID CUT IT OUT THE FIRST TIME INSTEAD OF BURN ME FOR 4 MONTHS).
Not to mention, she canceled an appointment unannounced, and then when I came in, tried to make me copay for the missed appt. When I refused, she said I could have a "freebie."
Give me a break. Do not go to this doctor if you value your toes, your hard-earned money, your dignity, your sanity, and your life. -

So happy now that I have found a new podiatrist.
Several months back I went to Dr. Szpiro and wanted to turn around and run out of the office. I also refused to go back. I have been suffering since, but it's fine, I am on my way to recovery now. No amount of pain is worth going back.
She is so rude, so unprofessional and insulted me about 7 times during my 20 minute appointment. Her recommendations for my issues were pretty much what I found on google. I think she has a very inflated sense of self-worth, and, I don't know why. I felt so uncomfortable there, and I left near tears. It's a huge shame too, because the location is prime, and the support staff in this practice are fantastic. They get 5 stars on their own. -

O.K., so talking about feet isn't pleasant but the way I feel after I've had a visit to Dr. Jordana Szpiro's office makes me want to click up my heels.
I'm a competitive ballroom dancer and an avid Salsa dancer so my feet take a beating. Dr. Szpiro has been a dancer all her life so she understands when you say "but I just can't take 3 weeks off from dancing". She gives me alternatives to spending my nights with my feet up on the ottoman.
Located in the Transportation Bldg. in Boston her office is easy to get to. Hurry, book your appointment before you get monster feet! -

My first Podiatrist was Dr. Szpiro. I had about 3 different problems with my feet - some longstanding, some new. Dr. Szpiro is no-nonsense in the best way. She diagnosed the problems, suggested several treatment options, starting with the most conservative (which she prefers). After several visits and one surgery (which was incredibly smooth), I highly recommend Dr. Szpiro to anyone.
Beyond the treatments, the office is in a great location, they know me when I call, all of my questions are readily answered, and my feet are well on their way to being happy again. -

I followed yelp recommendations to Dr. Szpiro, and now my feet are dancing with joy because I did. I've been in and out of podiatrists' offices who haven't been able to solve my recurring foot problem, and Dr. Szpiro took an aggressive approach that other doctors had never done before, and I've been cured. She's super-efficient (I never actually have to wait in the waiting room), professional, and the best at what she does. Highly recommended.

Dr. Szpiro is a fantastic Podiatrist.. Her new laser procedure for curing toe nail fungus is cutting edge and was painless and so far has done what other remedies have not for me. She is very professional and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend her.

Dr. Szpiro is an oustanding Podiatrist. She was recommended to me by a friend. He has been a patient of hers for several years. She is highly skilled, and immediately diagnosed and painlessly helped me with my toe.
