Why a 5 star review? Because I have frequent here for 5 to 6 years and they just keep getting better!

They used to only open for lunch and dinner but they serve breakfast at this location now because they closed down their other restaurant in Rowland Heights. So people who like Boston Cafe can go their for breakfast now.

Also one thing I must compliment on is their service. The servers here are one of the nicest workers and people usually don't expect such good service at a Hong Kong cafe. They come and refill your drinks without even having to ask them to. If you have any leftovers to go, they will box it for you compared to most places, where you have to do it yourself. Also the wait for the food is never too long.

I usually come here for lunch because they have lunch specials. I have tried many items on their menu and I pretty much like all of them. For lunch, you even get a soup of the day, which is usually a vegetable soup.

My favorites are the mushroom with e-fu noodles, their fried rices, basil beef and tomato spaghetti,  and their roasted beef ramen. They use Japanese ramen and the soup base is mushroom-y, earthy and light.

Their drinks are really good as well. Usually I compare drinks with the ones I have had in Hong Kong that I thought was good. After all, they are Hong Kong cafes so it should be as good as cafes in Hong Kong. But I think it is even better than some cafes in Hong Kong!

This place is great for families! You have to try this if you haven't already!

I've been addicted to Singapore style noodles for years. Surprisingly, they are not the easiest noodles to find. Whatever else Boston Cafe may be, it is a place where I can get two different kinds of Singapore noodles- chow fun and vermicelli.

I don't come here for the service (probably a good thing because it's not the best). I come here for cheap plentiful food, and lemon tea.

My friend- his first time- enjoyed his food and couldn't get over how cheap it was. He did rather boggle over the "chicken steak," being a vegetarian, I was no help. I'm still not sure either of us figured out what it was- but that didn't keep him from wolfing it down in record time, while regaling me with his plans to roast a pig in his backyard next weekend. (But that's another story entirely.)

When you have $10 and just want a huge plate of noodles and refillable lemon tea, it really is a pretty darn good option.

(-): Greasy and bland. Ordered chow fun, got free green onion pancake, and cornish hen with spicy thai fried rice + some spaghetti. Chow fun had no real flavor, green pancake bled onto my fingers, the cornish hen was alright, crispy and greasy. Spaghetti tasted like canned spaghetti-os.

(+):  Service was good. Big portions, was able to eat for days, but that might be because i didn't feel compelled to inhale it all at once.

First off, this is probably my favorite Hong Kong style restaurants in the area. I always come here whenever I can't decide on anything to eat with family or friends since their food is really well priced and the portions are massive. And to top it off, no matter what time you come you always get free soup. I love coming here at lunch because their lunch menu is ridiculously awesome. My favorite dishes to get there for lunch are the rib eye with two eggs and thai rice/grilled chicken and pork plates for about $8. They have a huge variety of food, but I'd like to say that all their food is good, thought I have yet to try everything.

The service here is really good. I remember one time I came in for lunch with my dad and we got seated as soon as we walked in. After that, we ordered our food and the food came out within 5 minutes which I thought was insanely fast. I don't know what they do back there, but they must be doing something right and efficiently. Their service in general is really quick and they are usually receptive of whatever needs you may have, whether it's from a drink refill, ordering more food, or getting the check.

Overall, I love this place because the food here is cheap, the portions are huge, and best of all they're open past 12 AM. I've been coming here since they first opened and I don't ever see that changing.

I came here during the weekend with my mom and it was packed. We waited for 20 minutes since there was a lot of people and the place is small.

The food is ok. I don't get why this place is better than Maxim Cafe. Yes, the portion size is larger but it was really greasy and the food quality isn't as good as Maxim Cafe.

The service was ok. It seems that they need more help since it was really busy.

I think this place is good for sharing. Come here a bit early if you have a large party and the price is pretty decent.

I'm a little sad that we don't have a decent HK cafe in San Diego.  Nothing even close to being as good as Boston Cafe.  My reviews on HK cafes are reflected upon ones I've been to and favor in San Francisco.  I have to admit, Boston Cafe is pretty good.  The service I recieved was way more than adequate which is more than I have to say about other places.  The staff seemed to be helpful and attentive both times I was there.

My last visit, I went for breakfast.  Little did I know, the breakfast menu was different from lunch/dinner.  At first I was a little disappointed however, it gave me a reason to try something other than my usual dishes.  I ordered the chicken steak with eggs and toast with black pepper gravy on the side.  You can't really screw up eggs and toast so I ain't even gonna rate those.  But the chicken steak was cooked perfectly; little bit crispy on outside and juice, tender on inside.  The gravy was spicy and delicious.

My friend had the macaroni and ham soup with eggs, ham and toast.  It was pretty basic.  She liked it though but I could see in her eyes that she wanted my food so I shared with her.  Why is it always like that?  Chicks want what I have then they end up plate swapping me for my yummy goodness.  Maybe next time, I just order for them.  LoLz. jk.

I definitely reccomend this Boston Cafe to anyone what likes HK cafes.  And as usual, you get way more food than the money you pay.  When I got the bill, I was shocked.  So cheap and so good.  Just my style. :)

I actually don't have too much to say about Boston, as it's been a frequent haunt of my family and mine well since my high school / college days. Nothing fancy, Boston is one of your typical HK-style cafes, serving up exactly what you would expect of these places: sizzling stone plates, baked dishes, and much more.

If I remember correctly, coming in for lunch and ordering an entree will usually land you a discounted price on a drink, with such offerings as tea, coffee, milk teas, and iced red bean and condensed milk drinks (get this). With my sister and mom usually defaulting to one of their cheesy baked dishes, I was fond of ordering the sizzling plates, with black peppered chicken with rice being one of my defaults.

Sure, they don't have the cleanest track record (I think they used to have a C rating, but have been upgraded to a B in recent years), but the food is solid, tasty, and affordable, always having left us with enough left over to last another meal or two.

I'm not that fond of this place. I've deduced it to one or more of three explanations:

    1. My girlfriend probably don't know my taste in food very well.
    2. Or, she has really bad taste in food.
    3. Or, this place has horrible food.

I'm hoping it's not #1, but I really hope it's not #2 because that's just sad. Then, if it's #3, well, I don't understand why this place is so busy all the time. I don't get it.

The food is decent at best, so I don't understand how it has an average rating of 3.5 stars "Better than A-OK" but not quite "I'm a fan!"

I'd go for the chow mein. It's a safe choice, but it's also a humongous box of noodles to go. I thought they'd give me a smaller container but nope... You certainly leave feeling like you've gotten your money's worth, that's for sure.

Another time I came here, we ordered the "House Special" Hainan chicken vermicelli noodle soup. It was one of the blandest noodle soups I've ever had. It had no flavor, and I don't understand why it's their "house special." I've also had better Hainan chicken in Chicago. The chicken was a bit too oily, and bits of it was a little undercooked. =/

I found my eating experience disappointing here, and it makes me doubt my girlfriend's taste (which isn't a good thing) because she refuses to eat Asian food in Chicago, but she'd take me here...? Of all the hundreds of thousands (I might be exaggerating) of Asian restaurants in LA (where its Asian food is supposed to be reputable and better than the Midwest)? =/

So sad, and Yelp wasn't very helpful to me when I looked to my Yelp app on my Android for help on what to order. The waiters aren't very helpful either. Why don't they know what their cook's signature dish is? Geez. =/

Foods here tasted okay.  However, expect extremely salty foods loaded with MSG.

Staff members are friendly.  Restaurant looks clean and spacious.
Food prices were reasonable considering the portion.  They were open for business when we came around 3pm for late lunch and we didn't have to wait long for our food to be brought out.

    SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SALTY!!!!!

And this is a Cantonese western style restaurant...in LA County...but with a "Boston" name????

Ordered the pan seared sole. It like eating an entire bottle of salt.

The fries was mediocre and the spaghetti was outright flavorless.

The only good that came out of the meal was the HK milk tea (refillable).

    Spend your money elsewhere!

    Decent quick style food.

Lots of seating and choices. The afternoon tea special is a good deal, since many nearby restaurants don't offer that. Opened late, for all the late-night diners.

My complaint is of the Clam chowder. Beware, it's Chinese style and tastes completely different and not american style, with real actual clams. I actually like the small cut up clams they put in American chowder, so that's my only gripe.

A typical HK style cafe! Boston Cafe has tasty food and decent customer service.  Although be aware that this place can get crowded during lunch hour and usually there is a wait.

I have tried a few dishes and liked most of them, especially the baked filet fish with spinach rice. Love it!  They also have free refills on your tea drinks which is good.

Overall good place to eat! Well managed, tasty food and good attentive customer service.  Only negative is sometimes gets crowded and there is a wait also parking is an issue during busy hours.

Went here because I wanted to try something new. The menu items was definitely new and my husband had the luxury of ordering some things on the menu for the family to eat. It was interesting but nothing that left me to want to come back for some more things in the future. A lot of the dishes were more asian fusion style.

Lunch specials are reasonably priced.  Overall very consistent quality of "cafe food".  I've never had a bad meal here but it's not amazing either.  I think for the price, quantity and the fact that they open late is very convenient for me.  I like to come for pick up as well if my family and I don't feel like cooking.  In comparison to Garden, I much prefer this place.  Their HK milk tea is ok, and free refills on your drinks.   Waiters are much more respectful and polite here than other surrounding restaurants.

I usually pick salt & pepper pork chops because not every cafe makes it, comes with white rice.  Not the healthiest choice, but it is one of my favorite dishes.  I've also tried chow fun and fried rice (all different kinds), not bad.  For someone like me that doesn't eat a lot, it's almost certain I will go home with left overs, and turns into another meal.  I am for sure getting my money's worth.

If you are near by or waiting for the movies, etc, it's a decent place to swing by for snack/late lunch/dinner.  You can never go wrong with chicken steak and fried rice/noodles.  They have a good variety of things to choose from for lunch specials too :).

I'm not quite sure if I should write a review yet for this cafe. I only orderd their spam and egg sandwich with fries. I wasn't hungry when I got there, but for some reason, i'm not a fan of their menu. Perhaps, I shouldn't have ordered sandwiches and something more sensible, like their actual plates. Honestly, all I tasted from the span and egg sandwich was the SALT. Food was way too salty for me, and I love salt. Oh well, I guess its okay for now, I'll give them another chance. Don't know when that'd be, but I'm always in the area anyway.

This place is another one of those typical HK style cafes like Garden Cafe open super late into the wee morning hours. This location is located in the Ranch 99 plaza next to Tea Station. But like alot of the HK plazas the food and service is just meh.

The beef egg over rice dish we ordered literally tasted like egg drop soup laid on top of a bed of rice with literally no flavor. We had to put alot of salt and pepper just to try to eat this... the minced beef on rice on the other was much more flavorful, but again rather dull overall.

If you're in a pinch to find something to eat in the middle of the night you can check this place out, but otherwise i would say skip it for something else.

My new spot for hong kong food! Place is small, but employees were funny and nice. This is what we ordered:

Century egg and pork congee: It was bland, but the pork had a saltiness that helped a lot...I still put soy sauce and black pepper in it, but that's just what I like to do. It was overall very good...plentiful toppings as well.

Steak with black pepper sauce (med. rare): Steak was tenderized (aka bludgeoned to oblivion), but it was soft enough for obviously low quality steak (especially compared to maxim's steak). Black pepper sauce was indeed, very peppery, but it worked. Overall not too bad (bf really liked it).

With such a good experience, we'll definitely be back! Stick with the lunch specials though, or it tends to get pricey.

    What happened to this place?

I use to go here almost every week until the service started to go down hill. The food is good, but I used to love the service. They used to have these young college kids that dressed in their own clothes and they were awesome. You'd get your food right away and you couldn't even finish your beverage because they would always fill it at half way. It was like they were always paying attention to their customers. Also before the waiters and waitress all worked as a team. Filling your drinks and asking you if you needed anything else like more napkins. It was just really a good combination of good service and good food.
Now the food is ok and the service sucks. I went last night after watching the Avengers and that was the last time I will go there. The place was moderately busy (there was about 7 tables open) but it took about 5 minutes to seat us. The food quality was good, but the quality was a little less than before. The service was just awful. I know it's been a while since they got rid of the college kids and changed over to the ugly mustard color polo employees. These guys gave us our food and left us until we asked for the check. I seriously get better service at Home Town Buffet. So sad. If any of you remember there was a sister to this place called Boston Kitchen down on Colima and Fullerton road. I went there once and that place had no service at all. I remember making fun of the employees there because they were more interested in watching the Chinese Soap Opera on TV than attending to the customers. Guess what happened to that place? OUT OF BUSINESS.  I hope Boston Cafe doesn't follow in their foot step because this place used to be great, something just changed. New management? Recession and cutting back on cost? I don't know.

Food/Cost: (3/5) Food here is familiar and filling. Don't expect anything too inspired though, its just good ol' HK Cafe food here. You get a large portion for the price and there should be something on the menu for anyone -- Chinese or not. I particularly recommend coming for lunch as the prices are much lower, which makes it an even better deal! I recently ordered the Baked Sole w/Cream Sauce, Spinach, and Cheese over Rice (~$7) which tasted just like how I've had it at other HK cafes. It came out hot and was good; I just couldn't finish all the rice because of the large portion.

Ambiance: (3.5/5) I came today, a Wednesday, for lunch around noon and the Cafe was pretty bustling. There wasn't a line though, and we were seating straightaway in one of the booth seats along the walls. There was also plenty of regular tables with cushioned chairs that I actually found kind of cute as they had coffee-cup shaped cutouts on the chair backs. Otherwise, the decor was nothing out of the ordinary -- just light lime and brown colors and very simple, casual cafe furnishings.

Location: (5/5) Boston Cafe is conveniently located in one of the plazas across from the Puente Hills mall, which is only a short distance off the 60 Fwy. As this plaza houses plenty of other restaurants and the 99 Ranch Market, there's a spacious parking lot so parking is not a problem.

Service: (4/5) Service here is super fast. Our complementary soups arrived within a minute, and the waiter who asked for our orders had to be asked to come again later because we hadn't even finished deciding yet. After we ordered, our food was out in about 5 minutes! The only negative is that there doesn't seem to be any form of service after you get your food and before they come clear your table and give you your bill.

Overall: (3.5/5) If you're in the mood for some HK cafe fare, Boston Cafe is a good choice, particularly for lunch. You get a pretty large portion in a warp sped amount of time.

    ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! STAY AWAY!!

Husband and I came here one late night and were craving some Hong Kong style café food. He ordered the Baked Pork Chop Rice, and I ordered the Beef Chow Fun. The Chow Fun was too oily, greasy, too much MSG (even after I requested NO MSG), too little noodles and too much deep fried beef. I mean, I literally had half of the plate full of the beef, and there was BARELY any hor fun noodles on the plate. Sad. :(

As if that couldn't get any worse, the Baked Pork Chop Rice was NOT baked. It was basically doused with canned tomato soup with globs of cheese in a flat skillet and the pork was old and deep-fried and had NO meat. It was charred along the edges and there was too much fat on it. We couldn't even find any lean meat!

Anyway, I wouldn't advise you to come eat here. Avoid! Sam Woo still prepares HK style comfort food better.

    i think i got food poisoning :(

came into the restaurant around 11 something and the host was sitting down at a table and saw us come in and informed us that the kitchen was already closed. me and my friends were confused and he looked at the time again and said "oh never mind, please sit"

    ....what?

whatever , we sat down and they had a pretty limited non-carb menu so i decided to order the fish with the boston sauce and replace the sides with veggie.

i have to admit that they hook it up fat with the fish and the boston sauce was really good but the fact that i woke up early this morning with the feeling that i needed to throw up and use the restroom is not the business.

as i'm writing this right now , my stomach is still giving me pains ..

Since I live in the center of SGV, Hong Kong Style cafe don't get me excited anymore. So, don't be surprised that I am giving this just another "Meh" rating.

Nothing against their food. It's the normal HK style cafe stuff. Big portions, decent prices, free refills on certain drinks, etc etc.

Tried the Baked Salmon with Crab Meat Sauce & Fettuccine ($12.95). Yes, the portion is huge, food is edible, but they definitely lack presentation. Felt like the chef in the back just tossed the food on the plate and sent it out the kitchen.

What really bothered me was their service. I understand it is peak dinner hours and there are people waiting for the table, but I felt like the waiter is just dying to scoot us out of the restaurant the entire time. And dude, I get the hint when you are trying to clear my table and giving me a tab before I asked for it, AND I am not really impressed with your ability stand behind me, clearing the table while having 10 plates in one hand (over my head).

Like I said, food-wise... it's edible. Service-wise... I rather take my money elsewhere. My 2 cents.

HK Cafe in Rowland Heights are basically offering similar menu and taste, this one is no different.  (I generally find restaurants in Rowland areas are quite bland.  Nothing unique in terms of taste).

The pro for this place is that Boston cafe's waiters are slightly more attentive than their competitors (Garden) and the food portion are slightly bigger too. You get more bang for your bucks. Which is a good thing.

I ordered the rib eye steak with egg for lunch special, which came out to be grilled prime rib with eggs.  (I guess they had too much leftovers from their prime rib special? since the meats are marinated). The foods are decent, but I guess I won't order it again unless I am dying for steak.  I would prefer my food to be freshly prepared next time.

Typical cafe food, but with a tad more flair than some other places.

Dinner specials are a bit more expensive, but they end up being good values because you get a ton of food. The regular dinner special was steak, potato, and sides-- but not a tiny little steak a full-sized one. A different dinner special, "a" or "b", that started with a lobster tail and added on either a steak (a) or German pork knuckle (b) was even better.

Sure, the lobster tail is overcooked, but the pork knuckle was pretty awesome. Add in green onion pancake (just ok) with curry sauce and a bunch of other stuff...

And hell, it's not bad. It's still cafe food, but it's not bad.

The bf had been craving HK cafe food for a while now and instead of driving all the way up to San Gabriel, we found Boston Cafe instead.

He ordered the mixed grill plate and I ordered the grilled sole fillet with Boston sauce. The meal came with the soup of the day, some kind of chowder with corn and ham which tasted heavenly on a cold night! The rest of our meal also came out hot and delish. The Boston sauce went well with my fillet. It was a savory sauce with some sourness to it. The mixed grill plate was also yummy. I particularly liked the crust on the grilled chicken. Bf also ordered the English milk tea (free refills!), which was good in my opinion but he said it was a little less strong for his HK trained tongue.

Service felt relatively good and polite. It helped that the bf spoke Cantonese, but it sounded like some of the staff knows English too. Overall, we had a pleasant experience here.

Its not bad........its good, NOT great.......buuut not bad...

Sigh......Hong Kong f*ck'n style American French Cuisine.....i mean what do you expect?? Its as good as it sounds........mediocre......good portions, but the ingredients aren't exactly the best or of high end quality......like a better yoshinoya, but not a whole lot better

And honestly....if you want to eat like this just go to a western or american restaurant and let them do it right.

Go here for chow fun or mei fun or something chinese....not baked pork chop with spaghetti bolognese.....but thats just me

Ive been working in LA for the past two years and have just recently started eating more out here......wow......lower price but lower in quality and overall presentation.

But like the two star rating says " Meh, I've experenced better"

Oh and the service?.....well, what do you expect from cantonese people?

I was never that impressed with Garden cafe or abc cafe or maxim cafe and definitely still not that impressed with Boston cafe,

But hey who the F#ck am I right??
    Eat on!

Everything I love about Boston Kitchen but larger portions and a slightly higher bill.  Yummy Hong Kong cafe food!!

Food comes out really fast and service is also fast.  Restroom is clean and well maintained.  I recommend: the Singapore noodle, salt and pepper chicken or squid (Boston Cafe offers combination), Chow fun, any kind of fried rice... I think you will be pleased with whatever you get because Boston Cafe or Boston Kitchen has never let me down.

First off, the English tea Cantonese style was a complete failure. Don't use the condensed milk use the evaporated milk (flower milk)(literally from translate) this trick works on all HK restaurants. I also tried the minced pork on rice with egg and it tasted bad- wait... no it didn't taste bad because it had no taste at all. I recommend the hot pot next door. Don't think I'll come back again.

This place is "okay" for a hong kong style cafe. I would give it 3 stars but i gave an extra one because they gave us big portions on our food that we ordered. Their lemon iced tea is yummy too!

I have been here twice for their Afternoon Tea time. .i believe its from 3-6.

I had their fish with fruit salad, fried pork with garlic bread, and crepe with strawberry ice cream.

Those are pretty good..  Don't ask me about the fruit salad because I'm not a fan to have my fruits dip in mayo..  I have someone eat the salad..

The afternoon tea time price are below $6.00.  Each item comes with coffee, milk tea, or tea.

Its afternoon tea time.. but its more dinner to me since I can get full :D
