Review from Patrick S.
Corona, CA
Our waitress, Christy, was very friendly and did a good job. Also, visiting with one other waitress, Marie, was enjoyable, too. All in all, service is 4-5 stars.
The NY steak and shrimp special for $12.99 was very good. The steak was actually very good, the shrimp OK, and the sides pretty good, too.
The 1/2 baked chicken was reported to be a good meal, also.
The only real complaint was the chicken strips. The comment I heard was that Carl's Jr has much better chicken strips, at a lower price.
As far as the ambiance, it is quite dated, but I think it's appropriate for the type of place it is - a home style family restaurant. -

So a friend of the family wanted to take my mom and I out for breakfast today. He's an elderly gentleman, so he took us here since it's super popular with the older crowd in the area.
The decor sort of feels like your grandma's house. You know, it's outdated and kitschy, and there are plastic tablecloths and all. But then after a few times of visiting, you almost hate to admit it, but you feel comfy there. It's down to earth and unassuming.
We all got the special with two eggs, home fries with peppers and onions, and sourdough toast. I'd never had breakfast there before and I was truly impressed. The sourdough was actually the best I'd ever had..it was full of extra flavor and nice & crispy. The home fries were perfect and very full of flavor as well. And the eggs were done just right..over medium like I like em' with some crispiness on the edges. Everything was delicious.
Abe the owner comes by and says hi at every table. And Marie our waiter was fabulous..so kind and on top of everything. Plus, she was a master in the art of small talk. lol It's a great dive.
Looks like they may have won me over :)Listed in: Almost Perfect, Yikes!

The food leaves something to be desired. The only thing worthwhile are the breakfasts and even those are questionable. The seniors love the cheap prices. You get what you pay for.

My fiance and I ate once here and it's a really cute place. The food is pretty good. We had their burger with fries. Really enjoyed the service and atmosphere everyone was really nice including the other guests.

A Totally random roadside stop on the way to Joshua Tree. We were looking for something non-chain, and we sure found it. super cheesy pink booths, ceramic figurines everywhere, some broken and fixed with tape, yet still on display.. old silk flowers. We were there on a friday night, so there was a keyboard player jammin' some soft tunes. We ordered steak, an omelette, and two open-faced turkey sandwiches for the four of us. Pretty overpriced considering all the food came out of the can. The open-faced hot turkey sandwich came smothered in gravy that was completely immobile. The turkey was on the dry side. The sandwich also came with about a tablespoon of jellied cranberry sauce in a plastic ramekin. The fries were actually pretty good though. The steak looked like mystery meat, possibly horse. The omelette was probably the call, though the canned mushrooms were just odd. Especially when they're claiming fresh. Oh, and we asked to have cheese added to the omelette, so they took a slice of processed american, cut it in half, layered the two halves over the top of the omelette. Classic. The service was pretty shoddy, but it probably didn't help that we were giggling the whole time. All in all, the food was pretty gross. But I give it two stars rather than one, because it was like stepping in a time machine, which was cool, although it wasn't really a time I care to visit... somewhere in the early eighties... in the midwest, where french tip nails are de riguer, sofas are covered in plastic, and doilies are not just a choice, but a lifestyle.

My 90 year old mother used to like this place, because it looked like a cafe from the midwest.....The food - blah and yech! Worse yet is that the cook doesn't even try to make the plate look attractive. I guess they've never heard of parsely or maybe a tomato slice or two....It's true about stuff coming out of cans. Can you believe going to a restaurant and getting canned peas? YUK....How this place stays open is beyond me altogether.
