Cambridge, MA
Saturday, 2 PM. The fridge went sour. Both compartments had neared room temperature.
I called Yale Appliance and was invited to pay $100 up front to have my name put down for a visit at an undetermined time on Tuesday. I bid them good day.
I call BCAR and leave a message. Thirty minutes later, I receive a call and am told a repairman (Tony, as it turns out) is on his way. Within the hour, the guy has my fridge out from the wall. Within 90 minutes, the faulty motherboard (a well-known weak link in this model) is repaired and he is back on his way.
The service call fee is $60 -- 60% that of Yale Appliance. The turnaround to a visit was blazing fast. Three hours have not yet passed since I knew the problem existed. It's Saturday.
Yale Appliance may be good, but they're not whom I will be referring people who need repairs. -

Can we have a 6th star?
Kenny just left our home with two very happy customers and one fixed oven. We called B&C Appliance Repair yesterday, and the woman on the other end was helpful, professional, and easy to talk to. We explained that the knob had cracked and come off our Viking stove. I cook a LOT, so not having use of the oven was a bit paralyzing. We had an appointment less than 24 hours later. Kenny was there within 30 minutes of the 2 hour block they gave us (and he called to let us know what time he'd be arriving) - he was friendly, knowledgeable and, came prepared with a new knob so he wouldn't have to make a second trip. It was quick and easy and we are incredibly happy with our experience.
In an economy where everyone seems to be out for themselves, it was refreshing to deal with a company whose obvious objectives are whatever is in the best interest of their customer. Thanks B&C...we'll be back :-) -

Another happy B&C Appliance Repair customer!
They first fixed my microwave: were thorough with the assessment, confirmed the price of the replacement part (I appreciate the sensitivity to a $40 piece of plastic smaller than my thumbnail). The repair was quick, efficient, and pleasant.
The last repair was to the stove. Again, they took care of the issue professionally and quickly. They were very engaging, pleasant, and polite. And nice to the cats.
What a nice bonus on top of reliable, quality service.
Thank you! -

I'd like to add my voice to the chorus of praises for BCAR. My two roommates and I had been sharing a tiny mini-fridge for months because our refrigerator was broken. I'm a fat Italian chick- I can't live like that! It was like a terrible game of Jenga, trying to fit food in there alongside the beer and wine (listen, it's a tough job being a functioning alcoholic, but someone's got to do it.) Thankfully, our freezer still worked, allowing me to keep a steady supply of Ben and Jerry's, with which I was able to drown the sadness caused by living without a working full size fridge.
I called late on a Monday and they sent Kenny out to look at my broken fridge on Wednesday morning. They had to order a part, so he came back Friday. Kenny was great- he taught me some neat stuff about refrigerators, suggested I defrost the freezer myself to save money on the labor costs, and even gave me some clean material for my stand up routine. Since we live in a country where most of us choose which presidential candidate will get our vote based on who we'd like to have a beer with, I say go with Kenny at BCAR. I'd definitely have a beer with him. Kenny, call me!!! -

Excellent service.
My oven broke on the Monday before Thanksgiving and they were able to come out on Wednesday morning and fix the issue so we could cook the bird and not have McDonald's for family dinner -

My refrigerator broke so i searched online for a repair company. I have never had any appliance repair done in the past, so i wasn't sure what to expect for costs or service. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I called Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair early this morning, the girl I spoke with wasn't sure if she could have someone out to help today, but she hadn't gotten into the office yet and would call me after she checked the schedule. When she called back she had someone available in the afternoon, so she scheduled me for 3-5PM.
Within the 2 hour window, Bobby and Nick came by, quickly identified the problem with my fridge, took it apart, got the part needed out of their van and had my fridge running again within the hour. They also noticed that the door to my freezer wasn't on properly so they took another couple minutes to fix it as well.
Overall i was pleased with the service I received, Bobby and Nick were very friendly and professional. The cost for the service call, parts & labor were very reasonable, about $160 - much less expensive then having to replace my fridge entirely. I would definitely call them again. -

I used these guys fro the first time today after reading reviews on Yelp. They were everything you read on here. I called on a Sunday morning around 9AM and they had someone to my place in South Boston by 10:30AM the same day.
Guy on the phone was helpful and friendly.
They were able to fix a problem with my dryer, as well as my gas fireplace.
I would highly recommend them for someone in need of home appliance repair. -

Our dishwasher stopped draining & after reading the reviews here, I decided to give these folks a call. Despite only being available 9-5 during the week, they do have Saturday availability. The 2 hour window of time to wait is more than reasonable compared to everywhere else.
The part that we needed was ordered & installed the following Saturday & although the part was expensive, the cost for labor & service call were right on par with the quality of work.
I know who to call whenever anything else breaks (which hopefully is not for a long time) -

our washer broke. mid cycle. FULL of water. hmmmmm
i called boston and cambridge appliance and left a message on a saturday evening. Someone called me back within an hour to set up an appointment for the next day. phew.
the technician showed up right on time and was SO great. he could immediately could see what the problem was: some kind of belt (that.. makes it run?) had fallen off due to the fact that the delivery guys from best buy had set up the washer wrong. The problem was easily fixable, HOWEVER... he informed us that because of the way it was set up, our washer was permanently damaged (!*@#^&%) and the belt would most likely keep falling off. he showed us how to fix the belt so we wouldn't have to keep calling and set our washer up the RIGHT way. thanks BCAR repair guy!!!! you're awesome. -

Add me to the chorus of satisfied non-repairpeople.
My stove clock was making noises. The stove itself worked, but it was gas, and I thought this would be a hassle. For a week, I had been calling my (now former) steady appliance company and never heard a word. My building's management company sent me here. Tina from there called me back promptly, scheduled a convenient appointment for me, and Repairman Kenny arrived when they said he would. In and out in ten minutes--ok, they charged me the full hour rate ($89.95), but at least my stove is quiet once again, and that's $90 I can deduct off my next month's rent (thanks, Mr. Landlord).
Their only issue? They make appointments in 2-hour blocks, so don't use these guys if you like to use the "I gotta work at home today, boss, because the repair guy is coming between 9 and 5" excuse to get out of work! -

After my basement flooded in the rains of spring '10, I found Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair using a Google search.
The woman who answered the phone was very helpful and gave me an appointment at my earliest convenience. When the serviceman (I've forgotten his name, but he was a very nice guy) checked out my washer and dryer he gave my washer a clean bill of health but explained to me why the dryer needed to be repaired. He had to order a part and worked within my schedule to come back to make the repairs - even scheduling a return trip on Saturday.
When he was done with the repairs, he helped me set the washer and dryer up on blocks so that if the basement flooded again, I wouldn't need his services. I would definitely use them again. -

The guy did a great job. He came the day I called. He needed a part and came back the next day with it. Coordinated with the tenant to get in. Very impressed with their quick and thorough service. Happy landlord and happy tenant!

I called these guys on like the 3rd of New Years (LOL right?) and they got back to me on the 4th (now who is laughing.) They had a guy out to me that day. He came in and looked at it - I knew the problem with it from a quick google search - he confirmed and pointed out that the ignition piece was going out (which I had suspected but didn't mention.)
He told me the price would be about $220 and that he'd be back as soon as they had the parts. Two days later, they called "Can we come over today?" Uhhh Yeah. "Do you know how much it's going to cost?" About $220. "Yep just wanted to check." Finished the work in roughly 20 mins. $229.
All carried out with extreme professionalism. I would give six stars if I could.
Highest recommendation possible. -

Whoa! I called at 9:30 am; a service man was here by 10:10 am and my dryer was fixed by 10:30 am. I can't believe I put off repair on my dryer for so many months! What was I thinking? The bill wasn't terrible, either. $160. Considering the dryer was $1200, that's not bad. Cheaper than a new dryer! The guy (sorry, he was so fast, I didn't catch his name) also checked the dryer's belts and bearings and said they were fine and not in need of repair. Don't waste time. Call them now! :)

hands down the nicest repair people i have ever dealt with.
my tenant's fridge blew last night, and although I thought it was likely the compressor and I was out a fridge, they managed to fix it for significantly less than the cost of a fridge. And, they did it same day!
Thanks!!! -

Jay was awesome! I wish I had cash to give him a tip, but I'm passing the tip to you. Choose Boston and Cambridge, and ask for Jay.
We needed our air conditioning fixed, and he was able to come within 20 minutes- on a Saturday! He came out, noticed that we weren't getting enough power to the roof, and helped us figure out what to tell the electrician. He was also professional yet personable.
Their service calls are also good for 30 days, so once the electrician comes out, if we're still having trouble, we can call back up and not have to pay another service call (just parts and labor). Yes!
Choose Jay today for your A/C needs. -

So incredibly pleased!! My experience was A+ with this company, They were Affordable, Knowledgebale, proffessional! Joe was my repairman, was awesome and got the job done. My Maytag Neptune Stack had an electrical problem and I had a different company out a
little while ago to fix this problem (and it was a disaster, expensive, inexperienced and didnt get the job done.) I am so happy to have found these guys and they are permanently in my rolodex for the future!!!

These guys are fantastic! Our archaic dryer stopped heating during the cycle, so it would spin the clothes, but they would not dry. I called BCAR on Jan 2nd, and they had Bobby and Nick out to us by the next day! Within 40 minutes, Bobby and Nick had fixed our 50 year old dryer (no joke - Bobby recognized it immediately as a model from the 1960s!) - and the price was very fair. They were really friendly and extremely efficient - I highly recommend BCAR, they are really friendly and they know their stuff!

Just had the water valves on my Kitchen Aid refrigerator repaired by Joe and, I gotta say, he was awesome. To be more specific, he was friendly, enjoyed talking to me (and answering all of my questions!), knowledgeable, and did a great job. He's a true asset to the company.
Details:
Our fridge stopped making ice last week and wouldn't dispense any water from the built-in water spout. Based on the Yelp reviews, I decided to call Boston Cambridge Appliance Repair. I called last Friday and Joe came 3 days later (Monday). Within 5-10 minutes, he knew the cause (the primary water valve was clogged from water debris).
Unfortunately, he didn't have the parts in his truck so he had to reschedule to Wednesday (2 days later). He arrived at our place this morning and replaced the water valves (there were two in my fridge) and installed a new water filter. Our fridge is working perfectly, again.
Pros:
- They give you a 2-hour window (not that "we'll be there somewhere between 9 - 5pm" crap)
- Joe was very friendly, personable, and very knowledgeable
- They offer a 90-day warranty on labor (and 1-year warranty on the water valves)
- Labor rates are very good
Cons:
- None with Boston Cambridge Appliance Repair
- KitchenAid parts are expensive ($138 for two water valves)
Needless to say, highly recommended! -

Wow - I hate to be the downer in this group. It pains me to write this, as they have done work at our apartment in the past and have always been professional and prompt in the past. However, after several weeks of waiting for my problem to be resolved - not to mention an adequate explanation of why it has not been resolved - I'm out of excuses.
The door seal of our washing machine developed a small rip, causing it to leak. The technician came by and confirmed that they would need to order the part from the supplier. Then came a long, long wait, which as of today (more than 5 weeks later) is still ongoing. I made about 10 calls to the company during this time and was given a variety of explanations - the part had arrived but it would be several days before a technician could install it, it had not arrived yet, it was on back order from the supplier, it had been shipped from the supplier but not arrived yet, etc. Each time, I requested a callback from the person responsible for placing the order, so I could confirm the order details and get an estimate on how long the wait would be. I'm aware that Asko is not a common brand and would not have been surprised by a long wait - I simply wanted to know what was going on with the order. Apparently this was too much to ask, as I never received a callback.
My landlord, who lives in another state, finally did get a call saying that the part was not in yet, but they would call me when it arrived - in other words, completely uninformative. I guess they were sick of talking to me.
Folks, it's very simple - just be honest with your customers and call them back promptly to explain what is going on, especially when it becomes necessary for them to make multiple calls about a problem. I've been very reasonable, and would have appreciated simple professional courtesy in return.
Very disappointing. -

I used BCAR because of all the great reviews on Yelp. They answered the phone on a Sunday and were available the next day (even though I wasn't available until the next week). Bobby came over and was very friendly and knowledgeable. He even showed me how I could do a few things myself.
The only downside was that I didn't know the actual repair costs until it was time to write the check. Although the stated cost is $49.95 per visit, it was an additional $40 to actually repair the dishwasher, a charge which didn't seem to come from any list of costs.
However, Bobby definitely did a great job and the value far exceeded the final $99.95 cost. I was very pleased with the experience. -

I work for The Hamilton Company, a commercial & residential property management company located in Allston, MA. We have many properties throughout Massachusetts and we use Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair for virtually all of our repair needs. They are willing to service any appliance, no matter what the problem is -- from a commercial washing machine to a microwave.
Tony Ginewicz Sr & Jr are both very courteous and professional. They respond immediately to all requests for repairs, letting you know exactly when they will have a technician on site. I really appreciate the fact that they follow up with us on all service calls they go on. They will let us know if they can repair the machine, what parts they need and how much it will cost. They even order the parts for us, which is one less thing for a busy property management company to worry about. If they cannot repair the machine, or they believe the repairs will be cost-ineffective to us, they let us know that as well. It's wonderful to know that this company has our best interests in mind and is not solely out to make a buck!
I highly recommend Boston & Cambridge Appliance repair for all your appliance repair needs. -

I had a washing machine that needed repair and called Boston Appliance repair. They came on a Saturday which was nice. The guy shook the inside of my machine, and said its going to cost $600 to repair and I was better off getting a new machine. He was there all of 2 mins, and charged me $60 and did nothing. I was very surprised. Just a warning, If you call these guys, then your paying, even if they do nothing.

I keep forgetting to review these guys. They show up when they say they will, they have the parts in hand, and they charge what they say they're going to charge. These days, that's totally 5 star material.
My kitchen is a little quirky, and the installation of my microhood required some creativity, but he didn't charge me extra. -

Sure they're only $45 for the service call, however they will make up for it somehow. My dryer's rear drum bearings wore out and I called Boston & Cambridge Appliance Repair for the repair. The serviceman although nice, quoted me 185.95 for the entire repair, seemed a little high but I needed the dryer fixed so I went ahead anyhow. Later when I looked at the bill they charged 90 dollars for parts that should have cost 10-20 dollars! Next time I'll look around for another place.

I dealt with BCAR through the management company of the apartment I was renting in the Back Bay. The apartment was located on the top floor of a walk up brownstone. The management company contracted BCAR to replace all the appliances in my unit upon my moving in. The guys from BCAR arranged to come in at a mutually agreed upon time (2 hour window) and were very prompt. They carried a fridge, stove and dishwasher up 4 flights of stairs without any problem and took away the old appliances. All in all the experience was excellent. They even spent some time showing me how everything worked and had to fix the connection for the dishwasher. The cost was very competitive to large home improvement stores in the area and the service was definitely excellent. Great experience here!

Great service - Sat.&Sun. appointment availability, reasonable appointment slots (2 hours increments), comparable repair prices and very friendly/helpful service. Minimum charge is $59 - the cost of estimate.
My front-load washer started to make a grinding sound during the rinse cycle so after doing some research on the internet this past week, I finally decided I should contact an appliance repair co. (I guessed I had coins in the pump). I called BCAR on Sat. night at 7:30 pm and got an appointment for the next day on Sun. between 10 AM -12 PM! I was expecting I'd get an appt during the week so this was fantastic!
Tony the technician showed up at 10:20 AM and cleaned the pump in about 30 min. (3 coins fell out - this was causing the grinding sound as I suspected). He also showed me how to empty the pump myself so I can take care of the problem in the future and performed a few extra fixes for free (taped my drain hose down & fixed the adjustable leg). The total charge was $99 dollars - very reasonable. I highly recommend BCAR should you have an appliance problem. -

I just used these folks because of the other great reviews. We called on Sunday at 1100 am. We were apologized to because they have to charge an extra ten dollars on a Sunday. Wow an apology before they arrive. The two men arrived at 12:30 Pm. The job was done about an hour and a half later they had the new blower on the van. They lubed the rollers and fixed some springs. $156.00 total. Then they tried to clean up the little bit of lint they spilled. We took care of it for them but they would have done it. I have never seen an appliance repair place like these folks. I highly recommend them.
I have used the folks again for another aplliance. Same great service with friendly folks. Same great results and above average service.
Highly recommend them! -

My washer stopped spinning on a Sunday afternoon, and after a quick phone call I had an appointment for the earliest block of time the next morning.
Tech was friendly, timely, and diagnosed the problem immediately. I was up and running again with 25 minutes of him arriving.
Don't know if house calls to repair appliances are ever cheap, but the price seemed fair. All in all a far more positive experience than I would have expected for this kind of repair. Would absolutely recommend. -
