Los Angeles, CA
I know there are a lot of reviews for Bossa Nova already but I thought I would put my hat in the ring. Last Wednesday we went to Bossa Nova for a birthday party for a friend. We had a big group (15 people) and were seated in the back area. The staff was very attentive to our large group.
We were sort of pre-partying for the Abbey and in that sense it was perfect because their drinks are very reasonable. $3.75 for Sangria and $5 for frozen margaritas. The waiter advised us to get a pitcher of frozen mango margaritas for $17.50. He claimed that it served 4 but we got almost 7 margaritas out of the pitcher! It was a great deal. The waiters were in a good mood during our birthday celebration and did not rush us. Food came out very promptly and almost all at the same time. Best of all, they let us bring a birthday cake to celebrate at the dinner!
Portions were plenty and everyone was happy with their food. However, the WeHo menu at Bossa Nova is a bit different from the West LA one. There is no pizza, for example. I was a little bummed that they didn't bring us bread and water service was a bit slow.
There was only one unisex restroom so the line could get pretty long. (Also, people, remember to flush the urinal! The urinal was so smelly.)
Overall, it was a great restaurant for a large group party, and it is in a great location if you want to get dinner before going to The Abbey! -

Beverly Hills, CA
I am a creature of habit when it come to this place. I find myself getting the same three or four things Willy's Favorite, The Boss Nova and the Copacabana. Occasionally I would get the Bossa Salad or Isabel's Salad. I used to go to Bossa Nova often. This one was near my work, there is one on Sunset which was right down the street from my place up on the Strip.
I would come here most with my Putain (its French, Google it). A girl I worked with whom I had relations with outside of work. She had a boyfriend and everyone at work knew it so we had to keep things on the down low. We would meet and enjoy lunch out on the patio, then enjoy one another after wards on our long lunches. Parking at this location is a mother f'er. Robertson is choked off where Bossa Nova is and a city park and the Hollywood Foreign Press HQ's don't make parking easy. Also there are like two or three night clubs that have constant traffic during the day. I would suggest parking down on Melrose and then enjoy the walk up to Bossa Nova.
The food is bright and seems healthy, what the hell do I know what healthy is. The food tastes really good. I would always go to this Bossa Nova on beautiful sunny days like it is today. So I am kind of jonesing Bossa Nova and my Putain right now. Maybe I should give her a call. The reason I picked this location in WeHo to review is because my Putain lived in an apartment about five minutes away. Total convenience. Man I am jonesing a Willy's Favorite and my putain right now..damn. -
Review from Ken K.
I was debating between the Beef Stroganoff and Marco's Pork Chop and I went with the latter after our server recommended it. Unfortunately, the pork chop was my least favorite thing on the plate. The garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach were great, but the pork chops were too dry. After having the Mongolian pork chops up at Mustard's in Napa, the bar for chops has been set high and Bossa Nova just didn't match up.
My girlfriend ordered the skirt steak and she enjoyed it. It wasn't the best skirt steak I've had, but it was good. The sides were all good as well.
We were seated in the back section of the restaurant and our server didn't come by too often. If you want quicker service, I'd recommend sitting out front, but if you want some peace and quiet, then request the back.
Good luck with parking, especially when it's dinnertime. And don't risk parking where you're not supposed to; parking enforcement people are like vultures out there. A car was being towed while we were leaving. -

All I can say is YUM YUM! Last night was my first time, but definitely not my last time. I had a series of appetizers consisting of garlic shrimp, chicken fingers and bacon wrapped chicken with Gorgonzola sauce! It was slap yo mama good! I found myself licking my fingers, which is something I hardly ever do. If you're ever in need a cool, inviting place with really good food, check out this place!

Atwater, CA
Everything I've had here is good, and both times I've gone, I've taken different people who all loved it as well. Food is uniquely prepared and plated, and the bread is free. We start with a Carnival salad, and another appetizer whose name I can't remember but it has meat surrounding a mound of rice in the middle of the plate. I get the pasta with pesto sauce and chicken, which is always superb. You can choose what kind of pasta you'd like with it, and I suggest penne pasta, since you can easily have a piece of pasta with a piece of chicken in one bite, as opposed to with spaghetti pasta. Also, if you're there at happy hour, have the sangria! I really like the ambience of the restaurant as well, though some may think it's dark. The walls inside are brick and the place has low lighting, with a patio area shielded by plastic or glass, depending on if you sit in the front or back patio. Service is great as well, waiters are attentive and are really nice.

Update: since my last review, which was not the most stellar on a busy Friday night, we have gone several times in the afternoon for lunch. Totally difference experience!!
If you go in the day, there is no wait time. You can sit inside or out on the patio and the salmon is UH-MAZING! The staff is attentive and the vibe in general is pretty good.
But I warn you, don't go there on a club night if you're hungry because the wait times are no joke. So if I could give two reviews it would be:
Lunch time: 5 stars
Dinner time on a weekend: 3 stars (due to long LONG wait times)
Overall excellent food.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Studio City, CA
Its pretty simple. Food- incredible.
Wine at happy hour- Great quality. Huge pour. LIke... 1 cm from top of glass pour. SCORE!
Service- TERRIBLE. Its actually kind of funny how this place is famous for having great food and bad service. The waiter literally walked past our table and actively ignored us. I guess thats what cute girls get when they try to dine in boys town. :(
The portions are massive... and you will definitely be bloated the next day.
I had the Bossa chicken salad and ate every single morsel. Our table enjoyed many different signature chicken dishes and they were all spot on.
Keep in mind- Seasonings and salt are key to chicken this delicious... so pick up your jeggings from the dry cleaner on your way home. -

this place is consistently gross and the food is just a hair above edible. the staff is largely comprised of borderline retards, rendering the service worse-than-awful.
do not even try to order delivery...ever. -

Long Beach, CA
You can't beat this location-- directly across from the gay epicenter at the Abbey. It's a great value (lots of tasty food for your money). Eye candy galore. Service is fast and friendly. But, if you're a true foodie or oenophile like me, calibrate your expectations accordingly.
First off, the menu is exhausting. My motto is "Find out what you do best... And do your best with it." Instead, Bossa Nova tries to "Be everything to everybody." It's hard to narrow your choices (especially for someone like me who will eat anything not still moving and well seasoned). :)
My recommendation: stick with the basics. Gisele's Favorite Chicken (aka chicken Marsala) is flavorful as it gets along with the smoky, fire grilled asparagus spears and creamy mashed potatoes. -

Los Angeles, CA
The menu here isn't really very Brazilian (more like "Western Hemisphere's Greatest Hits"), but what you do get is very good! We ordered the Bruschetta as an appetizer, and both me & my friend agreed that it was hands-down the best bruschetta we've ever had anywhere! Tomatoes are marinaded in I-don't-know-what, but it certainly did not disappoint! (What do I have to do to get the recipe out of one of the kitchen employees?)
I followed that with the Cajun Blackened Chicken .... literally to die for! It's a spicy-sweet-barbeque-saucy dish served around a mound of white rice. Really good. And though it wasn't blazing hot, it did actually have more than a decent kick to it (unlike many items that restaurants call "spicy").
We got there without a reservation at about 9pm on a Friday night, and had no problems being seated rather promptly, even though it was busy. The ambiance is a good balance between casual and formal; appropriate for groups of friends, or even a date. Great experience. Recommended. -

Loved this place! Stayed in town with a friend who took us here and, coming from NYC, I wanted something to match my culinary tastes (which really aren't that great now that I think of it). Anyway, we were seated promptly, courteously and without our entire reservation there! (plus-1 for that; NYC please relinquish your ridiculous rule). They have a huge menu but I saw something at the table next to me and ordered that.
We ordered a delicious appetizer of chicken wrapped in bacon served with crostinis on top of a Gorgonzola cream sauce. TO DIE FOR.
A few beers were ordered. Our waitress was so sweet, coming to the table exactly when we needed her and never more or less (huge for me). I had a Spicy Chicken dish in a ridiculous sauce served with white rice and my god, it was good. The entire experience left me full, tipsy, happy and surprised. -

I have been to west Hollywood plenty of times and that's an understatement. This place is located across the street from the Abbey and I had never noticed it until my friend took me here for dinner.
Reason for the 3 stars:
1) better than "Eek! me thinks not."
2) It's open late!
3) I have to go back to order something other than a sweet banana sandwich. -
Review from Ray R.
I just...I just...I just love this place so much!!!!
The location is near the shopping strip of West Hollywood. I will say if you don't have an "open mind" towards the romantic preferences of others then you should eat someplace else, as it can be very diverse. But I'm carefree so I enjoyed the sights of the area...alll of them =) I went late late night but based on the surrounding area, I'm sure parking would suck in the daytime because of the several businesses on this side street but trust me the food will definitely be worth it.
The drink menu has expanded beyond a cerveza or two, possibly due to customer suggestions so I'm happy about that...and cannot wait to go back to the West coast to sample myself a good drink.
Moving on to the foods: My fave dish was Manuela's Special..that dish had me looking for someone's mama to smack it was soooo well seasoned! The Camarao a Brasileira was yummiferous (yep, made it up) as an appetizer as well. Reading the menu again gave me chills up my stomach, not to mention there appears to be some new menu items that are making me want to check Southwest Airlines flight pricing to LA...only because the two bags flying free will be my full stomach and my suitcase full of Bossa Nova dishes stuffed in Tupperware.
If you're on your way to blow the bank on Rodeo Drive, try to save a few ducketts to reward yourself with a cheap meal from here. -

Everything is good here.
Go healthy with baked / grilled chicken for the gym minded, or pig out on pasta and traditional Brazilian dishes.
A huge hang out for pre-bar gays, and popular with fitness buffs.
Great place for star sightings. -

Los Angeles, CA
Picanha is amazing, ordered it medium rare. Cooked perfectly when it came out. Rice was just right and not too salty. Opted for the fried plantains, just about died. They were good by themselves, good with the beans, good with the rice, good with the meat, beans and rice all in one bite.
I have been to Pampas at The Grove, M Grill, Fogo de Chao and Cafe Brasil. For it to be enjoyable, the pao de queijo (cheese bread) HAS to be good and I liked Bossa Nova's best. It was nice and flaky on the outside, perfect consistency on the inside. My friend and I ordered the dozen pao de queijo from the happy hour menu, really a great deal. We each finished 3 before our food came.
The picanha was cooked as requested, medium rare. Was very tender and seasoned just right. I usually like to try a bit of everything but the meat was so perfect, I didn't even need to try anything else.
The rice, beans and plantains could not have been more complimentary. Plantains were caramelized just right, crunchy but not bitter. Beans came with yucca flour on the side for seasoning. Tried it, liked it, but did not love it. I will definitely try it again next time I come.
Love the ambiance. You can sit either inside or outside. The outside patio has much more seating and would be perfect for warmer evenings. GREAT PLACE to try Brazilian for your first, second, third, etc. time! -
Review from Travis L.
For a place open this late in WeHo, it's absolutely wonderful. Though I've had issues with the service the two times that I've gone, the skirt steak that I've ordered has been consistently done well with the fried yucca and fries being to die for. I really like the portion sizes and the diversity of the menu. There's always something new to try, and the sandwiches really play on the Brazilian flavors.
To address my issues with service, I've had servers that consistently neglected my table. And it's to the point of ignoring eye contact. I had them acknowledge me to bring the check, but it took 3 asks for me to get the bill. I wanted ketchup for my fries, but I asked two different people in order to get it (ended up having them both bring it to me). The bathroom cleanliness was also abysmal. -

I think I'd be very happy to live in Brazil. Portions are so FAT. I've been coming to Bosa Nova now for 3 years to test my food intake. Initially, I could barely finish half my Skirt Steak, which I order every time. I can now finish my steak AND still proceed to finish my friend's meals - a mighty bragging right in my book.
Medium rare is where it's at kids. The steak is always so tender. I guarantee you will never feel like a cow chewing on your own cud here. This baby is accompanied by a very buttery rice, salsa, fried plantains (nature's gummie candy don't cha know), beans, and delicious, savory seasoning on the side. Truly a meal of champions.
Service is also mighty friendly. I've so far been served by sexually ambiguous waiters, ghetto fabulous waitresses, and a pirate. Patrons are also friendly, perhaps a little too friendly. While waiting in line to use the bathroom, another guy randomly whipped out a video of him blowing another guy. Welcome to WeHo I guess?
PS: Most affordable steak of amazing quality ever. -

The price for beer is expensive. Excellent selection, but you're going to pay for it.
The food is, in my opinion, 5-stars. It's EXCELLENT! Great service, great location, can't complain about that.
The steak was perfect and tenderly medium, except for the burnt ends. The chicken was incredibly flavorful.
I really, really like this place. If the beer was a bit cheaper, I'd give it 5-stars. -

Review from Katy O.
This place is the same as the other location on Pico, but more homey in terms of the space. Came at lunch when no one was around. The stroganoff was good but the pao de quiejo were DIVINE.
The quality in food doesn't vary to me between the two locations, and even the size of the space is comparable. But the decor is much more interesting in my opinion. You can see my other review for remarks on the food.
Not a bad chain to check out for a business lunch or a date night. -

This is the second time ive been here. The waitstaff is great and the food tastes decent. however. For some reason. I didnt feel right after. queasy uneasy. my friend wasnt right for days after.
We had the steak and mash with cheese sauce and rice and beans and fries. Sounds hella good but the reaction we had from after just blew my mind. Blew. My. Mind.
Try going to the one off sunset it might be better in quality. -

Riverside, CA
I really wanted to love this place. But I think I need to try some of the other entrees before I completely give it up.
There's a great outside seating area that's especially nice on a sunny, winter day. The waiters come around often to refill your water/drinks and the food doesn't take too long to come out. Prices are reasonable, and portions are bigger than average, though not incredibly generous. Definitely filling.
I ordered the traditional fresh boneless chicken breast from the Bossa Nova Grill with fried plantains. The rice, salsa, and black beans were amazing. I don't usually even like beans but I scraped the small bowl clean. There's also this weird serving of salty couscous-like -thing- which is apparently the Yucca Flour. Yelch. I left that mostly untouched. Maybe pigeons would like that.
My friend raves about the fried plantains, but she ended up eating most of them. I wasn't a huge fan. There's not much seasoning or flavor and I've definitely had way better plantains elsewhere. Perhaps my higher standards is what made Boss Nova's plantains so disappointing.
The biggest deal-breaker, however, was the chicken. It's supposed to be cooked in all these delicious spices and Brazilian herbs but all I could taste was the sourness of lemon/lime/etc. The chicken was SO. SO. SO. sour. It was borderline disgusting. I would never get this dish again.
There are a lot of other options though, so I definitely want to try out the menu some more before I write off their Brazilian authenticity. -

Wonderful food!!!!
I got the veggie pasta with maranaira. It was great. There was a ton of fresh veggies and enough that I was able to have lunch the next day.
Tiramisu was to die for also.
Now if only they would open a Resturant in the valley. -
Review from Vince E.
My favorite here is stilll the galleto with broccoli rice. You cat go wrong. This is a whole side of grilled chicken breast served on top of flavorful rice that is infused with broccoli. Order with some pao de quiejo and you've got a perfect dinner and enough left over for lunch the next day.
Bossa Nova is my go-to after a late night. They are open until 4AM, so whenever you have that craving, you'll be sure to find their lights still on -

Come hungry and leave feeling like a stuffed grape leaf!! This place is where meat lovers go to die! Take some random meat, wrap it in bacon, cook it over an open flame and then slice it onto my plate. In fact, this place keeps slicing it onto your place until you turn the stopper to red.
There is a salad bar if you're so inclined. The side items are beyond delicious. It's fairly pricey so just be prepared for that. Otherwise, it's like Disneyland for meat lovers! -

This is my second time going to Bossa Nova. The first time we came here we tried the skirt steak that everyone raved about, but it didn't leave much of an impression on us. This time we decided to eat here again since it was nearby after we got some tarts from Fruute.
My bf and I are both fans of Chilean seabass so when we saw the menu we ordered Carol's Grilled Cherne (Chilean seabass in lemon caper cream sauce, mashed potatoes, and roasted spinach) and Diego's Seabass (Chilean seabass in lemon cream sauce with leek risotto). The seabass for both dishes were the same and delicious! But what I really fell in love with was the leek risotto! It complimented the fish well and was so creamy. It was so good that we wanted to go back the next day for some more!
The only thing I didn't like about my dish was the roasted spinach. It had too much onion in it. I only picked at it and left the rest. Service was a bit slow, but the seabass and leek risotto was worth the wait! -

GREAT place! Lived within walking distance from here.
If it's your first time here and want a good basic order, I'd get the boneless chicken breast. It's very juicy and tasty. Also love the black beans with rice, fries, and salsa that it comes with. I love putting the salsa on my chicken. Honestly didn't even know what to do with the yucca flour, lol.
Also tried their steak, which was VERY good and juicy.
This place gets busy, so be prepared for a wait, especially if you have a large party. They're very kind, and once we had to move a table over in the beginning of our meal because they needed to make a larger table. We honestly didn't care, but they kindly gave us a flan on the house! The flan was ok, but they were just too nice! -

Holy SLOW SERVICE Batman! If our waiter was any slower he would've been going backwards. I had to go to the kitchen to get him THREE times! You would think he would've got the point after the first time, or the second...but Three??

Review from Erin T.
I have visited this Bossa Nova several times as well as the location on Pico and I am a huge fan of the food. Anywhere you can order plantains as a side is generally pretty good in my book :)
The menu is extensive and includes several Brazilian and even Italian specialties. I have tried several of the chicken dishes as well as some of the seafood and have loved everything. My only complaint is that the prices are pretty high for what you get. My Bossa Nova sandwich last visit was $10.25. That seems like a bit much for a sandwich. Other dishes seem to be a little better deal though and I am still a fan over all. Great for adventurous and picky eaters alike! -

LOVE THIS PLACE! Bossa Nova always comes through for me. The food never disappoints, the servers are polite, knowledgeable and prompt. I had sangria there recently (top notch!) although I would recommend the apple sangria over the pineapple. I love this cozy, relaxed and romantic atmosphere. The noise level is social, but not so overbearing you can't carry on a conversation. My boyfriend and I love to catch up from our busy weeks at Bossa Nova because we can walk there and have a few drinks with some delicious food. I love the Napolitana with gnocchi. Yummy!
I don't feel like Bossa Nova is "too chic" for me. I'm always treated well and with respect. The seating is close, fairly intimate for my style but hopefully they aren't packed when I go. It does get PACKED. The tables are close together and you may find yourself dining right NEXT to another couple, and it can feel slightly awkward if your conversations begin to compete. Other than that, the outdoor patio is pleasant and is nestled a few feet back from pedestrian street traffic.
Overall, I'm a big fan! -

My workplace had food catered from Bossa Nova today and everything was cooked perfectly. The boneless chicken breast meat and steak portions were flavorful and cooked to the peak of tenderness. Even cold (I didn't grab lunch right away), the steak was the best I've had in a long time (I don't know the cut, but it was comparable to New York cut - my fave). The salad was crisp and had a good combination of ingredients... I was just delighted with it all; I'm definitely going to have to make it there for dinner within the month!

Had a late dinner here on Saturday night and was wonderfully surprised! Both my and my date's food were delicious and the serving sizes were enough to make us virtually incapacitated for the rest of the night.
Oh and that pitcher of Amelia's Ponche sangria = great decision. -

Havana sandwich -sweet plantains and melted cheese on a french roll. Basically a banana and cheese sandwich. A surprisingly good combo! A little sweet, a little salty, a little buttery. I got it with mashed potatoes which was also very buttery and delicious. They have a pretty extensive pasta menu, and the dishes were huge, especially the chicken parmagiana. The restaurant is a bit cramped and loud during dinner hours so not recommended if you're looking for a more intimate atmosphere.

My delivery experience with this place has been amazing from start to finish. Er...middle. I'm so impressed by the food that I put down the Edgar's Goat Cheese Salad I just inhaled....which came *after* the Picanha Appetizer I ravenously devoured a few minutes ago, just to purge the intense feelings of whimsy I have for this place right now.
Now, this might be attributed to the fact that all I've had to "eat" in the last 24 hours was an iced latte and a granola bar -- however, I know some good ass food even if I'm three sheets to the wind, delirious, temporarily out of my mind, or all of the above.
When I called to place the order, the girl taking my order was super patient as I went back and forth on what to order 80 times...which is why I finally ended up saying eff it and ordered like 85 things to satiate my inner fat kid. I'M SERIOUSLY STARVING, PEOPLE.
Anyways! The Picanha appetizer was AMAZING- there was some ground up stuff- apparently this magical powdery what have you was Yucca Flour, which was serious deliciousness - I sprinkled it on the tasty garlic bread, I dipped my meat in it -- if I had balls, I would dip them in it too. The meat was still super warm- not lukewarm like how it usually ends up when you get delivery--and it was soooooo flavorful and tender, cooked to med-rare perfection.
The Edgar salad is YUMTIME, and let me tell you...these people DO NOT SKRIMP ON THE SHRIMP. It took me a minute to find the lettuce, because it was buried under a magical mountain of scallops, shrimp, onions, sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese.
I would keep going, but I've got an unopened order of Camarao a Brasileira (Charbroiled Shrimp) and I haven't the patience to keep dealing with my watering mouth anymore.
THIS SHIT IS LEGIT.

Let's just start by saying the food here is absolutely wonderful. We won't stop going back just because of the very poor service.
My partner and I went here for lunch today and ended up being waited on by "Fiano." Since we knew what we wanted, being regular customers, we ordered the drinks and food at the same time. Part of our food was delivered first, followed a few minutes later by the rest. Our drinks followed a few more minutes later. Although we asked for water twice, we never received it.
We were dubious from the start because the last time we were at Bossa Nova was for a birthday party where we had the same waiter and received very poor service. So we weren't surprised when we got similarly bad service.
What did surprise us was when a different server came by to inquire how everything was and we asked to speak to a manager. Who should show up but our "waiter," Fiano. We explained what we found lacking in the service and even told him this wasn't the first time he had disappointed us. He said he was doing his best, but didn't seem at all remorseful. So, we got the check and rounded up to the next dollar for his tip, 86¢.
The next time we go back if Fiano is our server we will ask for someone else. -

This sit-down restaurant is a small but lively spot in West Hollywood. Finding parking is difficult, especially when you're there on nights where the nightclubs start poppin'.
The restaurant is smaller than expected. Instead of walls and windows, they have what seemed like plastic tarp. Their outdoor area is more like a parking lot (and they don't serve alcohol to those who sit outdoors). It is as if they are undergoing a remodeling process. The restaurant just doesn't seem to fit in the space in which it was provided, and it's more like a shack.
Their dishes are about $10-15, but their plate size is HUGE. I ordered the:
Beef Stroganoff, which was a bit heavy for my taste. I felt the meat was just dumped into a can of cream-of-mushroom soup, and served over rice. Some of my friends did like this dish though, so I would give it a 2/5.
If you do end up going there, I would recommend the Skirt steak, with fries instead of plantains. The plantains were just too sugary and charred for my taste. Skirt steak= 4/5.
My server is nice. She is quick, efficient, and to the point, but I wouldn't say she provided great customer service. She treated us much like a number, and seemed to only come around, only because it's routine. In addition, my water was almost always in need of a refill. I believe it may just be because we sat outside, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and just say that OUTSIDE Service= 1/5
I would advise going to the Bossa Nova on Pico for ease of parking and better service. The only down-side of the Bossa Nova on Pico, is that there's nothing else to do in the area once you're done with dinner!! -

I love Bossa Nova... this is a great place to go on a date.
Things I recommend:
- Red & white sangria, both are excellent choices
- Pao de Queijo (awesome pieces of bread with cheese inside)
- Chicken Brochette* (chicken wrapped in bacon with a cream sauce,
can't get any better than this!)
- The traditional fresh boneless Chicken Breast -- simple, but so good (comes with a side of rice, beans and plantains/or fries)
Excellent food for a great price. Love coming here whenever I am in town. The atmosphere is great to chat, have a glass of vino and relax. Since there is always so much food I never get a chance to try the dessert, maybe next time.
Oh, and as a bonus they are open until 4am, so if you get the munchies after a late night of partying around town and are tired of Jack in the box you can come here. Oh soo good! :)
