So you can get snorkeling gear rentals starting at $1.50/day but why would you when the most expensive gear is only $8/day? Good snorkeling gear makes a HELL of a difference. Not a single drop of water in the goggles and the tube disallows water getting in. Improves the snorkeling experience tenfold.
The guy who helped us was super friendly and quick. We were in and out of that place in about 10 minutes or so. Rentals last for 24 hours at a time but they do close at 4:30pm so you'll need to bring them back by this time. They also provide a map of different snorkeling beaches along the Lahaina area. -

We rented snorkel gear through this Boss Frog's for our honeymoon for a week.
Valerie was super helpful and recommended great gear for my husband and I. He'd never snorkeled before and i had a few times. The mask, snorkel and fins we rented were great. They also rent flotation devices (one of which we rented for my husband - the yellow belt - but he didn't end up using it). Our gear cost $25/person for the week and the flotation device was $15/week.
We ended up going snorkeling on 3 - 4 occasions, so this was tremendous for us.
Yes, they try to pitch you on cameras and trips and such, but hey - it's Maui - that's to be expected.
Would highly recommend!Listed in: Everything Maui

Great equipment, friendly staff and they don't ride your ass if you're a little late. Take our advice and RENT THE UNDERWATER CAMERA! It is seriously worth it!

One of the things I didn't want to miss was snorkeling on my recent trip to Maui. I jumped onto Yelp to find the nearest shop to rent gear since the hotel was charging an arm and a leg. Boss Frog's Dive and Surf was down the highway from our hotel in Kaanapali.
I have NEVER snorkeled in my life but the associate who helped me was patient, informative and not pushy. It came out to around $8 for a one day rental. The associate even suggested a few great places to snorkel in the area. The gear was in good condition and I didn't get any water in my mouth. One of the places he suggested, Honolua Bay, was just surreal. I saw so many fish and even a sea turtle or two which made the rental totally worth it. -

The inevitably unlikely proposition of successfully stuffing snorkeling gear, scuba gear, boogie board and ten-speed into your checked luggage with room to spare is what lays the framework for Boss Frog's business model. The selection is so-so, but a heck of a lot cheaper than buying gear you'll use all of twice a year (at best). We rented snorkeling masks and fins for a full week for $60. There's a myriad of bolt-on services that will be pitched to you (underwater camera, group trips to Molokai, etc.) but if you pare your rentals down to the necessities, you're guaranteed to have a blast on the island at a moderate cost.

Boss Frog's is a great stop to get snorkel gear for your stay in Lahaina. You can get great deals if you book gear for a week (they also have coupons online) and they'll also give you deals for other activities and packages (whale watching, helicopter rides, cruises, etc.).
Their associates are sales associates afterall so they're a bit persistent but not overly so. We were fitted into our snorkel gear by Casey who was great and made sure everything fit perfectly.
They have tons of locations throughout the island so pick the one that's nearest to you since you have to rent and return at the same location.
Bottom line, I would definitely rent gear from them again! -

Kyle, this one goes out to you.
I came in to Boss Frog's in the Lahaina Cannery Mall to get some information about snorkeling Molokini and Turtle Town. They have dozens of tours available that offer snorkeling at both locations, and Kyle was patient enough to go through the details and prices of each one AND field umpteen questions from the three other curious family members with me.
He checked availability, and told me to call back the next day if I was interested in booking the trip. I called back the next day and he immediately knew who I was, called his reservation lady and got the whole thing set up. He continued to exercise incredible amounts of patience with good humor as he answered all of my questions. The process was quick, smooth, and friendly, and I really appreciated that. He even threw in a $10 off discount per person on the excursion, which helped to cover the taxes and fees. He also was able to give me information for other activities on the Island that we were interested in, and my dad ended up going parasailing.
Great experience with Boss Frog's due to Kyle's professionalism and helpfulness. Next time I find myself on the beautiful island of Maui, I will stop by here to book some awesome activities and I will be sure to ask for Kyle. -

Very reasonable prices on everything there. We went to rent some paddle boards, but they try and sell you on all their other packages...Cruises, snorkel trips, etc. They do have decent prices, but they try to get you to commit on the spot for a special rate. An easy out, just tell them it's your last day. I would definitely rent from them again.

Wow, Shannon great review. Bitter??
These guys were great! The body board my brother rented was only $5/day. Parasailing was only $23 and they seemed to be fully stocked and SUPER helpful. Close to everything, just about everything you could need next door in this little "strip mall" type location, so when you come here to pick up and drop off you can easily run other errands.
Great Service (with a smile) and very considerate.

Very cheap for snorkel packages, but this time we were looking for a beach umbrella for our son. About $15 for the week with tax and was well worth it.
Staff talked to us about all of the activities on the island and we went on their 2 for 1 $29.95 whale watching tour to see how right they were. Best we have been on. We saw 3 pairs of moms/babies, couple of singles and a competitive group of males trying to woo a female (about 8+ total whales together). -

I hated this place.
It seems like you have to be a jerk to work here. The first one I went to was in the Lahaina Cannery Mall. I heard him talking to a father and son about their snorkel equipment. The air tube had water coming in and he responded with: "What'd you do, bite it with your braces." Then, I asked if there was a dressing room so I could try a dress on. He told me No, and that I had to take try it on right there, in the aisle, in front of him (Eww, sicko). We walked out after that. He also seemed like he was high.
Then, we went to the store in Kaanapali, trying to buy snorkel equipment. This salesman was condescending and rude when my sister and I went in. We rented the best scuba gear we could and he guaranteed no water would come in through the mouthpiece. Well, guess what, when we went snorkeling I almost choked on water when my mouth was an inch below the surface. Tons of water came in through the mouthpiece. We returned our snorkeling gear the next day and gave up on the experience. The same guy was working. The only nice thing about him was that he agreed not to charge us for the next day, since we returned the gear a day early. -

Great value and the service we received from Dave was outstanding. He recommended a terrific location for snorkelling and the cost for equipment....$1.50, as advertised.

Went to the Cannery Mall for snorkel gear. They advertise one price, then quickly confuse you into renting the more expensive gear. Not appreciated. We also purchased a dive trip to Molokini and Turtle Town on the "highly recommended Frog Man 2". Supposedly the best dive boat in the harbor, and we better reserve now because space was disappearing fast! Don't believe that nonsense.
Once we arrived at Molokini, we were told that today was "single stop Sunday". In other words, there is not a second stop, its a sales gimmick to make you believe that they are offering this special second stop to
Turtle Town.
Oh, and guess what? Turtle Town doesn't even exist. The dive shop salesman raved about Turtle Town and the gigantic turtles that swarm this sacred place. My poor little 9 year old boy got a rude lesson that day in human greed. -

I can not recommend these guys enough! The entire crew was awesome :-)
Went to Turtle Bay and then to Molokini it was great! Lunch was great too!
Next time I am in Maui I will definitely book with them again. -

Place was great! We went here to rent surf boards, we originally waited a bit long to be helped (surge of customers at once) but once we were helped realized it was because of the individual customer service you receive. Casey was unbelievably helpful and nice. We ended up not being able to use the boards (due to my size, ability and come to find out a surf advisory that came through right after we left); I called and they let us return the boards for a full refund!!! We purchased some other activities through them as well (a luau) Casey provided us with maps of different locations for activities (snorkeling, surfing etc) and when he found out we were newlyweds he announced it to the entire shop with a round of applause. This place went way above and beyond. i would completely recommend using them--and their prices seemed reasonable;especially for this island! :)

Review from Lori N.
After reading reviews about this place & knowing what to expect from them, I didn't think they were all that bad. We came here for snorkeling gear & to book a Molokini trip & that's what we got, no more no less.
They advertise $1.50/day snorkel gear rentals to get people in the door, but this gear is disgustingly old that THEY don't even recommend it. We went with the next quality up, $5.00/day & found that these were fine. They weren't the dry masks, so we definitely got some water in our mouths, but nothing a little spitting can't get rid of. I think no mater what you wear, if you stick your head into the ocean, at some point water is bound to get into your mouth.
But come rent your gear with them & they can get you some discounts for snorkel trips. They can even book other activities around the island for you, so check it out if you're interested.
Pick up/Drop off weren't much of a hassle, but I can see it taking a while if there's a bunch of people in the store, since only one guy works there. Benefits are that you can rent at one location in Maui, and return at another! We rented at 2pm on Friday & returned them at noon on Sun & just paid for 3 days.
I'd probably return on my next trip to Hawaii because it's convenient & I don't want to spend tons of time looking around for other places. I'd rather pay slightly more to save time, so I can spend more time having fun! -

**yelp for some reason won't let me list this in kaanapali, but the street address is correct.**
The Kaanapali location is less crowded than the Lahaina one, but closes at 5 pm instead of 8. We got snorkel gear, booked a Molokini trip, and were rewarded with a bunch of dinner coupons (which we didn't end up using, but it was a nice gesture).
Service is super friendly and low-key, and they don't give you a hard sell on anything. The Molokini trip had a great crew, served breakfast, lunch, and cocktails, and generally a good time watching turtles and fish was had by all. If you're doing a snorkel trip, though, I'd suggest renting your own gear and bringing it with you-- the gear from the store is probably cleaner than the stuff that stays on the boat. -

Went in here to rent a few boards... they had a pretty poor selection but were nice and helped us load them up. One of the boards had a broken fin which clearly didn't help the situation teaching some folks how to surf for the first time. We returned them the same day.... a few days later we were back and talking to some guy about what kind of boards he had available again. The phone rang and he picked it up in mid sentence and just started jabbing on the phone for 10 minutes why we just sat there. Pretty sad customer service.... then a week later I get a call saying the boards were never returned. Of course they were returned... but when I called back to tell them that I was placed on hold for 20 minutes. Just how I want to spend my time... dealing with the folks at Boss Frogs. Not recommended....

This place is great. We did not want to buy any boogie boards or snorkeling equipment because we would never use them and bringing the boogie boards back would be a big hassle. The concierge at the Westin Maui recommended this place to use for cheap rentals. We renting two boogie boards for the week and it only cost $30 for both which is a good deal. We came back later when we heard there was great snorkeling at black rock near out hotel. They have three types on mask for the snorkeling equipment. The cheapest is like $1.50 a day, the next one is like $5 a day and the most expensive is like $8 a day but the quality is the best. We went with the $8 a day because we don't like swallowing salt water when we snorkel and water don't get in the goggles. I am glad we rented those because it made our experience that much better, We did not have any difficulties with the equipment so we got to spend more time enjoying the view. The also offer digital underwater cameras for rent which we of course rented. It is $30 a day which is a good price I think. We rented all this stuff for two days. The camera take unlimited pictures and they burn them onto a CD for you when you turn the equipment back in. Not onlt are their prices great but so is the customer service. Everyone there is a very helpful and friendly. They also gave us a map of the area and it labeled all the best snorkeling, boogie boarding and surfing spots which was very helpful. If you are in Maui I would highly recommend this shop. There are 8 shops on the island so it is easy to get to no matter where you are staying.

We didn't rent gear through Boss Frog's but booked several different activities through them.
We went on a snorkel trip to Molokini & Turtle Town
Went to a Luau at the Grand Wailea, and we booked a bike trip down the volcano through them.
Their booking agent Tara was amazing! Really trying to make all of the activities happen for us, even though we were on a very tight schedule to make it all happen. She went the extra mile for us.
After a bad experience on one of the trips, even though it was an outside vendor, Boss Frog's took total care of us.
We are going to call them again for activities next time we're in Hawaii! -

I love Hawaii and this is my eighth visit to the Islands. However, if I could give this place zero stars, I would. We arrived to rent snorkel gear for the week. Conveniently, they allow you to rent gear from one location and return to another - ok so that's worth the one star. However, upon entering the shop both employees were busy helping others. No problem there. I patiently waited in front of the counter for one of them to finish. Other people began streaming into the shop until there were 5-7 others waiting for help. This place seems to make its money off of tours. It also seems that the employees make commissions off of the tours (more on that later).
When it finally was my turn, I told the man that we wanted to rent snorkel gear. He gruffly told us to wait in the back and one of them would help us. In the meantime, he proceeded to help everyone behind us and never returned to provide us with service (we waited 20 minutes total). The other employee was still helping a family that must have booked 10 different tours. We decided to leave and come back in the morning when they were less busy (I was getting mad at this point and not sure if we would return) but my boyfriend politely asked the guy (twice) who was helping the 10 tour family if he could tell us what time they opened in the morning. We couldn't seem to get his attention as his eyes were glazed over with the presumed commission this family would give him. I have never felt so ignored and mistreated in a store in Hawaii. It was obvious to us that because we only wanted snorkel gear that we were ignored.
Finally, I would like to warn those that see their ads, which they use to get you in the door: $1.50/day for the "panoramic" snorkel gear or $9.00/week (the ad further temps you with 2 for 1) - this is for their very basic snorkel set, think circa 1950 with a uni-view snorkel. Btw, the next level of snorkel gear they sell you up to is $25/week and the premium is $35/week. -

Fast and easy. Our group rented from here and others all over Maui. The only drawback is that you have to drop off your stuff at the store you rented it from. Here the guy said that he was headed to the one where we picked up some more stuff...and offered to drop ours off there. I called the other one later in the day, and they said he made it and it was all good. Now that is the Aloha Spirit!

This place is really super convenient. My boyfriend rented gear from here when we were in Honolulu. They told us that we could drop off our gear at the Lahaina store before we left Maui. Great inter-island service.

Super convenient and friendly. I used the one on Kaanapali. They close early but there was no wait, plenty of gear to choose from, they even got me a refund for a luau that I previously booked and paid for over the internet because Boss Frog would give it to me for 1/2 off. I've never booked their tours but I always get my snorkel gear for the weekly rental rate and it's a great deal!

It was cheap, and the flippers kept making my feet cramp, but I did get what I paid for. I'd give it a higher rating but I couldn't stand that every other sentence out of the salesperson's mouth was about trying to upsell me to some snorkeling tour.

They had the snorkel mask I needed at a good rate (small Rx so I could see the fish and turtles better) but their body surfing fins were kinda crappy. If you're going to spend a lot of time in the water, you're better off bringing or buying your own fins for body surfing or boogie boarding. Other than that, things were easy. The snorkel and mask were fine. Yes, there was a wait to rent and it's probably just like all the other places on price, so three stars is good enough.

We've rented snorkel gear three different times at the Kahana location and found this outfit helpful and friendly. Yes, each time they suggest a timeshare presentation and/or booking other activities, but just say no if you're not interested, and they don't bother you any more. They are always helpful and patient with picking out gear and fitting it And they bailed us out last time when we unexpectedly had to fly home early and couldn't get our gear back to them before closing time; they were kind enough to pick it up from the place we were staying down the street from them.
