Great meat. If you order anything but the lamb here, why are you here?
I've had the patties and the lasagna like dish and both had very juicy meat with plenty of flavor. Even the side items are flavorful, with the carrots and cabbage having taste to them. -

Bosphorous never disappoints! We had the pomegranate/mint hookah and Yesil Salata (House Salad) alongside the sampler with lavas (I like the Kisir/Tabbuli and the Tarama the most, the stuffed grape leaves are amazing too!) to munch on while we waited for our entree. The lamb sis kabob was absolutely wonderful. Everything was spot on! For dessert we had the kenefe. Super delicious and wonderful in texture. Love it!
Food aside, the service was great. Our server, Michael was super attentive. It definitely contributed to the pleasant experience :)1 Previous Review: Show all »

Winter Park, FL
Overall, simply wonderful, but I've found that you need to know how to order if you want the absolute best experience.
The lamb kabobs are spectacular. If you're not a vegetarian, don't even think about getting anything else. Yes, they are one of, if not, the most expensive thing on the menu, but it's worth it. I normally think of kabobs as being cube sized chucks of meat, but these kabobs are the size of your fist! Not only is it a huge portion (you get eight kabob pieces and can split), but they are as tender and buttery as Filet Mignon. Perfectly seasoned to enhance, not distract from, the lamb goodness. You get your money's worth, that's for sure.
I've also tried the spinach and feta pastry as a main dish, and wouldn't get it again. The dough is more like pizza dough, and it lacked flavor and originality. If you've already made the decision to get Turkish food for dinner, then follow through and order adventurously at Bosphorous. That's what I've found to be the best advice. -

Colorful and tasty, but I certainly did a bazonga-disbelief-eye-widening when I saw the check. Don't fall for the mimosas, it's not worth it. The hummus is terrific though.

Dallas, TX
We went with a group of about 10, and had a pretty decent time. I'm going to sound like I'm 80 years old, but it was a little loud for my taste. The ambiance is really nice, but with a big group, you're not gonna hear anything at the other end of the table. I'm also not sure if I was having trouble with the noise, or couldn't understand the accents, but there was a miscommunication with the wait staff and we ended up getting charged extra for the yogurt stuff that came on the side. We didn't even touch it because we didn't know who's food it was for, or what it was at the time.
The food was good, the Lavas (bread) is a must. I'm not sure if its because of the large group, but my food, the Chicken Kababs, came out cool. They were also supposed to be spicy, but no luck there. My wife had the shrimp casserole, and it was pretty good. Unfortunately, if you want to split anything, it's an additional $4/person, so that's not really worth it if you're in a group.
Overall, not a bad place, but it's not on the list of places I need to take people visiting us. I'm glad we went to say we did, but we'll not be going back... -

I love Bosphorous. We went for the second time last weekend and ordered everything exactly as the server recommended on our previous visit. We had the Lavas bread with the mixed appetizer plate - had hummus, tabbuli, and like 5 or 6 other things to eat with the bread. Then the hubby and I split the Mixed Grill plate, also a little bit of everything and had food to take home. The friends with us also split the Mixed Grill. The service here has never disappointed and I love getting to take leftovers home. If you have not eaten here yet, you are missing out. Plus I just found out today they have happy hour! I've got to add that to my list of to do now too.

Not amazing, not bad ... just good.
We started with Lavas - a huge hollow dome of hot doughy bread, and 2 dipping sauces - Humus and Ezme. I'm jalepeno adverse, so I didn't have much of the Ezme, but the Humus was good. The bread with both dipping sauces was $15, which is I think a bit steep, particularly since the dippings are small portions.
We shared a chicken Sis Kebab - which had 5 or 6 huge pieces of chicken breast. We didn't finish it. Again, it was good.
The service was good. Overall, a little on the pricey side for what you get, but it is in a nice area so I guess that's to be expected.Listed in: On the road

Winter Park, FL
SO GOOD! As a vegetarian, I can't enjoy most of their main dishes, but luckily there are so many delicious vegetarian appetizers to choose from! The ingredients they use are so fresh and delicious, and the food is equally as awesome. I LOVE the white bean salad, haydari, stuffed grape leaves (OMG SO GOOD), and falafel. My meat-loving friends love this place too. I've never eaten a single bad or mediocre thing at this place.
This place is pretty expensive though, but I typically don't order a main course (only appetizers) so price hasn't really been a huge deal. I did notice, however, that of late their portion sizes have become smaller, particularly noticeable when you order a dip.
Also, try the rice pudding. It's so good...so good. -

Review from Rashmi P.
I am on a perpetual hunt for variety and new ventures. Eventually though, craving for one dish in particular dish takes me back to previously visited restaurants. For me, the dish that brings be back to Bosphorous is the Cold Mixed Appetizer plate (combination of humus, babaganoush, smoked eggplant salad, sautéed eggplant, tabbuli, ezme, tarama, haydari, and stuffed grape leaves) and their signature house made bread called Lavas
Each of these cold dips taste delicious on their own, the variety will please all palates on your table. Refreshing with the Yogurt and Cucumber dip, spicy Ezme with the Tomatoes and Jalapenos, and the creamy Hummus and Tarama to name a few. I simply adore the warm bread with the sesame seeds sprinkled on top; it is a perfect complement to the dips. With the exception of one (tarama) the rest of the dishes are vegetarian, so a great option for vegetarians.
Turkish cuisine, not entirely sure what truly is authentic Turkish food. To me I find most of Greek, Turkish, Lebanese food consisting of similar items from the Middle East region that encompasses Western Asia and North Africa.
The location is ideal; the ambiance can be noted as quintessential; the service is rather impersonal, not much to speak about. Overall, in spite of its hits and misses, Bosphorous does a decent job of serving tasty meals to Central Floridians who yearn for diversity and change. -

Solid 5 star for location, service and quality. We sat out on the sidewalk on an early Saturday afternoon enjoying mimosas and the Lavas, humus and veggies. WOW! what a way to start the day. Pricey, but it is Park Ave so it's in line with the rest of chic eating establishments nearby. After the hustle and bustle of the Winter Park farmers market, it was fun to kick back and watch Park Ave come alive and our table at Bosphorous was a great vantage point.

Excellent food. Mediocre service. If you're looking for a chic place in this lovely area you won't find yourself at a loss for choices. This would be a good one with cozy indoor seating and a lovely setting for outdoor dining, as well. The dishes we were served were both excellent (cabbage rolls deluxe! ...and a ground, spiced lamb dish where the lamb was rolled inside a thin pastry, kind of like pigs-in-blankets and drizzled with an earthy, spicy sauce that complimented them well. We ordered the lavash bread--see photos, and I believe it's better than any pita or other bread I've ever had in any Turkish, Lebanese or Persian restaurant ever. Freshly baked and puffed up in a most appealing manner, sprinkled with sesame seeds and served fresh from the oven. I've been here before and had better service so maybe this visit was just a bad day for my server

Review from Tom B.
If you order bread (lavas), an appetizer and a main course at Bosphorous, you ordered too much!
My reason for dining on Park Avenue today was to try a Thai restaurant on the north end of town. But I and several others left out of frustration because nobody would wait on us. I can only sit and pick my nose for so long before I begin to look foolish, so I moved on.
Outside on a gorgeous October Florida day at Bosphorous, I ordered a starter of the lavas bread along with a dip called Haydari, a thick cream of yogurt with walnuts, garlic, fresh dill and cucumbers. I wish there were a bebek (baby) lavas on the menu, as this hollow bread was the size of a throw pillow! And I was outside! People were gawking! "Is he going to eat all that?"
The starter was quite enough, but being the fool that I am, I continued on with a main course of okra saute -- very tasty. I didn't finish anywhere near half my bread or my entree, so I thought it wise to pass on baklava.
I might have brought the leftovers home, but I wasn't sure the bread would fit into my refrigerator. -

Dined at Bosphorous with a friend. When I lived in Orlando, many years ago, I never knew this place was here, but apparently it has been going strong for 8 years. That is always nice to see instead of the usual corporate herd chains people have come to cherish and love.
Like everyone else on this forum, I tried the Lavas bread with the dipping sauces. I have a pretty big appetite and was full by the time myself and my date were done eating it. Lots of flavor. We head south from here, very quickly. The chicken ka-bob arrived and it was saturated in salt. It;s possible MSG was being used because my body went for the water glass almost immediately and I never drink with my meals. I didn't have too much of it and we called it a night and left.
I developed lite stomach pains, which rose to greater stomach pains within 12 hours. I was told by my doctor I was infected with Helicobacter pylori. Symptoms usually develop within 1-2 hours after eating a contaminated meal. What I got sick on remains to be unknown. Today is Thursday and I still have stomach pains, but they are not as severe as Sunday and Monday. Wow, what a long fucking year it has been,
Although the waiter was friendly, which I appreciated, Bosphorous reminds me of the local hooker in your town. Pay almost $100 for a meal for 2 and get a disease or virus in return. -

Loved the lavas bread and hummus. Stopped in for the lunch special with the wife while shopping on Park aAve. Great pricing and too much food. I really tried because it was delicious but couldnt get it all down. We went back a month later for dinner when we had family in town. We sat inside this time and the place was really nice but comfortable. Its been a couple months since we went so I cant remember the names of any of the dishes but I do remember enjoying all courses.
Tasty food, moderately priced and pretty good service. -

I've read and relied on Yelp reviews for years. I'm so so miffed I had to post.
I am a woman traveling on business solo. Nicely dressed, etc. I asked the hostess for a table for 1. The young hostess immediately wants to place me in the bar or a two top right by the front door. Not near the front door, right next to the opening. If you cross your legs you are in danger of tripping patrons as they enter. Also, if I wanted to eat at a bar I would have gone to one. I wanted a relaxed dining experience.
Funny thing is, there were maybe 5 indoor tables occupied in that entire restaurant. Wasn't asking for "prime" table. Any other 2 top and not in the bar.
When the couple ahead of me were offered the same choices and they declined as well, they were promptly seated at another 2 top. When I politely declined the two pathetic seating options and turned to leave the hostess told me "oh, wait a minute" turned to an older hostess who immediately informed me about all the reservations they had. Yeah, I could tell by all the empty tables. I travel all over the world. My family is in the restaurant business. We own and operate ten restaurants. I know how reservations and table turnover work.
Just letting u ladies know how much our business is appreciated.
BTW went to a lovely tapas restaurant a few blocks away. The owner warmly greeted me at the door and offered me several table choices Had a couple of glasses of wine, lovely food and terrific service. I only occupied the table for less than an hour and left the waiter a $20 tip.
You see I get it regarding being a solo diner and I compensate accordingly. Restaurants need to accommodate the large parties and solo diners. It all balances out in the end. -

I love the food here. It's intoxicating to say the least. The service, however, is something that needs a great amount of improvement. The servers I've had each time always seem so disconnected and annoyed. The food is what keeps me coming back.

I think Susan R. pretty much covered everything!
I used the Yelp check in offer and purchased the discount directly from my smart phone. I made sure the discount was applied before I marked it as used; There were no issues with the restaurant honoring it.
I enjoyed my salad--it was very herb and flavor heavy and was a light dish.
I just kind of filed the high prices under "it's Winter Park," and soothed myself with the $20 for $10 offer. I agree with Susan in that it feels as if we were being "upsold" with the meal. Haggling is not something I expect or prepare for when I want a meal.
It's an ok place for food, however, so many other options exist. Honestly, I would much prefer Anatolia in Dr. Phillips, especially when live music plays. -

I never knew how much I could like a dome-shaped bread called Lavas until I dined al fresco at Bospherous. I had seen this yeasty wonderment many times as a passerby but not until it was served to me did I really how magnificent it actually is. We opted for the hummus and the spicy salsa dip to go with our bread and we weren't disappointed. In fact, we could have ordered a couple more Lavas' and been set for the night!
Instead, we all tried something different and were all incredibly impressed. The food was tasty, hot, and cooked very well. Some of my companions went for the Chicken Sis Kebabs while some went for the Shrimp. I opted for the Vegetable Saute with rice and ate just about every single bite.
Their wines also got a good report from my friends. They likened the Red Turkish wine to a Pinot Noir and the white to a Chardonay.
In a few words Bospherous is delicious, welcoming, clean and the service was great. -
Review from Brandon M.
Maitland, FL
I've been here 4 times so far. Each time, the service has been at least acceptable, and the food superb. The prices are a little steep, along with every other location on Park Avenue. I have read some other reviews that insinuate $15 is an unjustifiably high price for the Lavas bread and a cold dip. The Lavas bread is AMAZING, and is sure to impress any first-time diner at Bosphorous. I don't know of another place that compares in either quality or variety when it comes to authentic Turkish dips. The Haydari is exceptionally delicious. I strongly encourage diners to try at least one cold appetizer. If you are adventurous and have a serious appetite, they offer a sampler that features the entire spectrum.
When it comes to entrees, I don't think you can go wrong. If you're in a group of at least three, I would try the mixed grill. Each item is delicious, and it's a good way to become familiarized with the menu. If you must pick only one menu item, I would suggest something from the lamb section. The Lamb Adana is very good, if you don't mind a little spiciness. -

This was my first time eating Turkish food, so maybe I'm just a blank slate who now loves Turkish food, but this place is YUM. The lavas bread and hummus is an essential way to start off the meal, and from there, it just got better! I shared some dishes with friends, so I'm not even sure what i had but it was absolutely amazing. All of it. I stuffed myself silly it was so good, and will definitely be back! Service was outstanding too!

One should expect fresh Baklava, excellent service, and super tasty food when dining at Bosphorous.
I've eaten here several times and enjoyed the Chicken Adana in the traditional yogurt sauce every time and a variety of other dishes that have been absolutely scrumptious.
Our server this time was named Zachary and he was personable, knowledgeable, and charming. My boyfriend & I took his suggestion of the Lamb wrapped in phyllo dough and it was delicious. It had tangy carrots, cabbage, and beets as compliments to the lamb along with white rice. Really, it was so good.
We tried the felafel as an app but it was disappointing. I think I just prefer the cheap kind from the schwarma shops in Spain but for the price, it just wasn't flavorful. But our sweet treat of pistachio baklava was the BEST piece of honey sweet nutty pastry I've ever eaten. It was so fresh and chewy, totally worth every sweet calorie ; ) -

Sat down outside on one of the last comfortable 6:30pm's we have left for a while to do that (in my opinion).. and were quickly tended to.
Got a bottle of Malbec and rocked the big fluffy bread thing (Lavas, fantastic) with hummus and yogurt sauce. And zucchini patty things. The big fluffy bread thing has sesame seeds in it and its fun to deflate.
For entrees, I got the chicken saute thing and it rocked. Service was aite. Host people were super cool. -
Review from Dana H.
I am going to have to say that I was sorely disappointed with my experience at Bosphorous. I had passed by the restaurant numerous times and I kept saying that I wanted to try it... yet when I finally did, I left with a bad taste in my mouth for a number of reasons.
1) I was there for my birthday with a large group of friends. We called a few days in advance to make a reservation. First, they didn't want to make our reservation without having us give a credit card number to ensure that all 13 of us would show up. Apparently, that is their policy for parties over 10. I didn't want to do this, because sometimes people are unreliable and we didn't want to have to suffer paying if someone didn't show up. On top of that, they never really told us what we'd end up having to pay on the credit card if someone didn't show up. We ended up just reserving for under 10 people.
2) We called back to make sure that they wouldn't mind splitting everyone's orders up - since we were with a large party. The hostess put us on hold, asked someone, and came back saying that it wouldn't be a problem. When we got there, they refused to split the check. We spoke the to manager and he was VERY rude and didn't seem to care that his own employee had given us the bad information. He was walking through the restaurant and didn't come by and say anything to the table after the incident.
One of my friends ordered a couple of Bellini's because of the 2-for-1 special that they advertised and our server offered. After the check debacle - they informed her that because we were separating check and "because the way the system is set up" she would have to pay full price for both drinks. The way the system is set up? Seriously? Charge her for only one!
Basically they acted like splitting a check was the STRANGEST proposition on the planet...
3) The meals were EXPENSIVE... which I expected... however the portions were average, and the lamb saute (which I had) was tough and didn't have any vegetables in it.
There were a couple of good things - the lavash bread was AMAZING. Also, our server Aryn was amazing. She ended up helping us out with the check situation and gave us great service.
All in all... I would say definitely skip this place if you are with a larger party. Also, don't expect to get the "customer is always right" type of treatment at this place. I left with the impression that the owner knows that his restaurant is successful and doesn't really care what us "lowly" folks think about him or the restaurant.
I would probably not go back again because of the treatment we received. -

Ordered the Appetizer platter and the Lavosh bread.
Caviar dip was really creamy and good, as was the walnut yogurt dip and the Lavosh.
Rest of the appetizer platter had some interesting flavors but were not my thing, two were pretty spicy.
I would eat here again but I find their prices to be a little high. -

I've wanted to try this place out ever since I read another reviewer describing the lavas as big enough to hold a small dog! I simply had to see it for myself and I have to say it didn't disappoint. :0) The best part was that I expected it so when they brought it to the table, I watched the expression on my friends face and it was priceless!
Ok, enough babble... onto the food, which is what everybody really wants to know about:
* Lavas - HUGE portion of what my friend now refers to as "balloon bread". Soft, delicious... order some.
* Haydari - Yogurt mixed with walnuts, dill, and mint. Perfect blend of tangy, crunchy, and savory. This is a really good start to the meal.
* Moussaka - Turkish moussaka is slightly different than the Greek version I'm used to but I really loved the sauteed veggies throughout as well as the way it's presented in a casserole dish instead of the lasagna-type format. The flavors were outstanding.
* Spinach and Feta Turkish Pastry - My friend ordered this so I didn't get to try it but I need to mention that this was a HUGE dish and she mentioned that it was amazing. I'm a huge fan of feta so I'll probably be trying this next time.
I can honestly say this was a unique meal and I haven't had the pleasure of trying Turkish cuisine before so I was happy to try something other than my usual mediterranean favorites. The prices might be a bit steep but I was expecting it considering the location and clientele, so it didn't shock me. I'll definitely be back to sample more! -

Located right in the walking area on Park
Ave, Bosphorous serves excellent Turkish/Mediterranean food in large portions. I have no idea what it's called, but our favorite dish is chicken cubes served over bread chunks topped with a tomato and yogurt sauce. Trust me it's great. Have the lavache (sp) bread with hummus or babaghanoush as well. -

I love the food at Bosphorous! The lavas bread is an absolute must! I usually order the meat platter with someone else, and its plenty to share and have leftover. Chicken, lamb, beef, and other delicious meats are all so juicy and delicious! It can be a little pricey, but for the amount and quality of the food, it's well worth it. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a bar area. Don't forget to try all their yummy dips and appetizers!!

Chicken Adana kebab is the BOMB!!! This place is very authentic and the food is fabulous!!! A MUST have on the menu is the lavas bread with the hummus and babaganoush. The bread comes out hot and fresh and the appatizer dips are superb. Top the night off with a turkish coffee and your night will be set off right!!

My husband and I ate here tonight, and we thought the food was just as good or better than we ate in Istanbul. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. The service was great, though our appetizer took a little while to arrive. But after that everything was timed perfectly. We ordered the lavas bread and hummus to start, which was wonderful. We both had the Iskander Kabob, sliced lamb in a tomato and yogurt sauce, which was our favorite dish back in Istanbul. It was just as we remembered it. The portions were ample, and we easily will have another meal from our leftovers. For dessert I got the Baclava, probably the best I've ever had. The portion was bigger than i'd expected -- three pieces served with whipped cream -- and I told my husband we'd undoubtedly need another box. But once I took a bite, it didn't take long for me to finish the whole thing. My husband ordered the rice pudding, which he thoroughly enjoyed, too.
Overall this was a great place, and we can't wait to go back! -

Ok so my review is going to differ quite a bit from every one else's. This is because I have not yet had the food. Perhaps I had been offered a menu by the morons from behind the bar, then it would be a different kinda review entirely.
I have not experienced a more unpleasant time at a bar in quite some time. And this is coming from someone that spends a considerable amount of time at a bar eating and drinking. I am also very patient and understanding. After all at a bar I am typically drinking and in good spirits (haha) and by no means feeling as though I am completely invisible.
There really isn't a reason for anything we experienced here. No reason except maybe the fact that all 3 bartenders were douche bags. We were ignored for the first...i don't know...15 minutes before anyone acknowledged our presence, and even then, it was as though we weren't welcomed at the bar. One guy took 3 minutes just drying a glass as he stared off into nothingness. This was quite comical actually. That blank face with it's empty headed look in its eye will stick out for some time.
The second bartender kept ignoring our drink orders and finally blew them off to the third, very rude and abrasive female bartender whom we tried to strike up conversation with (making the effort here) and were answered in a short, to-the-point sorta way. As though she had no interest in speaking with anyone.
I recall looking around in astonishment to see if this experience was being had by any others and I'd honestly have to say that to my left and to my right, both parties were treated rudely.
This is no way to behave. If you truly are unhappy with your work or where you work at, then perhaps find a different sort of job.
Definitely don't take this review to heart. Many people rave about the food, which I will return to this place and experience. I am simply ranting/reviewing about bad service on my visit.
Until next time, eat, drink and be merry!
Cheers! -

This place is pricey. Well, not really pricey, but more than I'd like to pay for a meal. That said, the atmosphere is great and inviting and the service is excellent.
I ordered a falafel for an appetizer and should have stopped right there. It was huge and almost filled me up all on my own. I also ended up ordering a tilapia dish that was incredible. But the falafel. I still cannot get over how amazing that falafel was. If I get the chance to go back, I will definitely just stick to the falafel as a main entree as it was more than enough to satisfy. -

One of the best Turkish food restaurants in Florida. I'd go in just for the falafels, bread ( Lavas) and hummus! The chicken kabob was delicious! The ambiance and service was nice too. Our waitress was very helpful and sweet. At the end of your meal, you can top it off with some Turkish coffee sweetened to your liken.
I highly recommend this place if you are in the mood for some Mediterranean food. -

I have been to Bosphorous several times and enjoyed it. The food super flavorful and beautifully plated. The wait staff seems fine. The last two times i have been, I've had the same server and though not super personable, he was efficient. It seems recently though, that maybe there is a new owner because the prices have become a little outrageous and the menu items seem to have become much smaller (other yelpers have mentioned this in their reviews as well).
My most recent dinner was with a large group, i think there were 15 of us. We made a reservation and had no problems being seated. After reading that they were a pain about splitting checks, we all brought cash and there were no issues.
You simply must order the lavas and one of Bosphorous' delicious dips to go with it! -

Food was great. Drinks were horrible.
Lavash bread (puffy bread) along with pick-two appetizer was great. Followed up with Moussaka which was also fabulous. Both were plenty enough to share.
Drinks however were a different story. Ordered a scotch on the rocks and the glass came out full of ice and so little booze I thought they forgot to put it in the glass. $8 for a drink that was poured with a measure. I make a point or not buying drinks at places that measure. Next time I will skip the drinks and head over to Hannibals after where they know how to pour a good drink. -

I had never had Turkish food before, so when we went to Winter Park's Park Avenue neighborhood, it was exciting to find some ethnic food other than Italian.
The service was great...our server was friendly and for the most part left us alone to chit chat with our friends, which is what we wanted. We started out with the dolmas and falafel. I was rather underwhelmed by both but the lavash, eggplant moussaka and lamb kebabs definitely made up for it! Rather pricey but we ate family style which helped with the cost.
