A co- worker and I journeyed to the Bevo neighborhood this week to try out Bosna Gold. This restaurant is large with a small parking lot. The walls are a high polished wood with a nice stone floor. The venue is very clean and quite spread out.
Our server was pleasant and probably a little overly attentive. We were the only table during the lunch service.
My fellow diner ordered the veal kabobs. Two kabobs served with raw onions and vegetables appeared quickly, hot, and well seasoned.
My cevpti sandwich was fantastic. The large Bosnian bread was grilled and well cooked. Ten to twelve sausages came with the plate with banana pepper rings, raw onion slices, and sour cream on the side. The two of us split a mixed meat plate. The shared potion consisted of: eight sausages, Bosnian hamburger patty, two veal kabobs, grilled chicken breast. The plate was nice and well seasoned.
There was no tea available and when coffee was requested cappuccino was presented.
Three entrees and tip came out to about $55. A little expensive for lunch but the food was good. I could probably order smarter next time. -

My friends persuaded me to go because of the good reviews. And because I wasn't having the best day, I hoped that this weekend dinner would cheer me up a little.
As much as I wanted to like the place because of our nice server, the overly-salty dishes (a lot of us had the cevapi and mixed meat entree) and slow service didn't do for me. Since I ended up eating mostly the free appetizer bread for dinner, Bosna Gold failed to lift me out of my emo miseries into happy food bliss that day and actually had me leave feeling more down than before :( -

The bottom line first: it doesn't matter how good your cevapi are, Bosna Gold, if I'm too thirsty to enjoy 'em. Seriously... waiting for ice cubes to melt so you can suck down an inkling of hydration is not cool.
Argh.
Such is the problem with many European restaurants. You want authentic Bosnian fare? You got it. However, that also comes with a heaping side of blatant disregard for good service. If I may make a suggestion, order a soft drink or Fructal juice in addition to a glass of water (the food is salty and you'll be dying mid-meal if you're depending on a refill). You're welcome!
But I digress. The food is solid-- I tried the salad with feta (no lettuce, just cucumbers, green peppers, tomatoes and feta) as well as the cevapi. The meat is excellent, and the homemade lepinja bread is more buttery than most I've tried... delicious! I did miss the kajmak though... what's up with all the Bosnian restaurants in St. Louis serving sour cream instead? It's just not the same! Sigh... I feel cheated.
Oh, and my take on the restaurant? Jimmy Buffet meets Vermont ski lodge. Quaint, cozy yet hokey. Niiiiice.Listed in: Meet me in St. Louie., Cevapcici!, PITA Power!

I had the day off from work so I headed down to Bevo Mill with my brothers to try Bosna Gold. I had an exceptional time. First, I don't know if this is the difference between going for lunch and going for dinner, but the service was great. Quick, attentive, and the server even left the water pitcher for the three of us after giving us a refill (maybe he'd read the previous reviews?).
One brother and I got the veal. Yum. It was tender and flavorful, with plenty of onion and sour cream (a little more tomato would have been cool), and the Bosnian bread I had read about. The bread rocked. It was like a buttery, spongier pita, except that this description does not do it justice. I love bread, and this was some fine bread. I also tried some of my other brother's chicken kabob. Also good, especially with the sauce it was served with, which was similar to Tzatzki.
I'm definitely coming back. I have sausages, goulash, and cabbage rolls to try. -

If you are looking for a place to find some good Bosnian food then I would say head over to Bosnia Gold. Inside you will find that the place is nice and open. The service is always friendly and they will try to help explain any questions that you might have.
Bosnia Gold offers many of the traditional Bosnian meals and for that one particular meal I had the Rolled Cabbage. It was wonderful. It came with mash potatoes that tasted nice and fresh, as though they mashed that day.
Bosnia Gold is a great Bosnian restaurant and is a great place to go with any size group of people. -

I've heard a lot about Bosnian food and Bosna Gold in particular and finally got a chance to try it. Overall, the food was interesting and pretty good, but I was chugging water the rest of the night to counteract the salt. My mouth either cured or pickled from that meal. The atmosphere was tremendously unique. One of the other reviewers was exactly right - it's like a Jimmy Buffet owned Vermont ski lodge. The Wednesday night when we were there, there was basketball on TV and about a half a dozen guys chain smoking and watching it. The waitress restocked the tables with ashtrays more than refill their water. But, the restaurant wasn't smoky.
I got the cavapi, since I'd hear about its wonders. It's a dozen sausages in buttery bread for $6! The sausages were solid. The salt didn't hit me right away. The seasonings are fairly straight-forward and the meat was tender.
The star of the dish was the bead. It seemed like half flatbread and half hamburger bun. It wasn't greasy or oily, but was really smooth and buttery. The edges were crisp and the middle was fluffy.
Is it a place to try again? It falls somewhere between 'eh' and yes. -

Wonderful, authentic Bosnian food! Live music some nights and the bosnian coffee is to die for! Note: It's great paired with some baklava!
