Review from Dean D.
Overall, the food is pretty good. I love the grouper sandwich and the pizza's aren't bad but then again I've found it hard to find a really great pizza in the Memphis/Collierville area so I'm probably not the one to rate pizza's in the south. the beer is all made at the restaurant and is very good especially the IPA. They've got a good menu and most of what I've eaten over the few years I've been going there has been very good. I love the outdoor seating area. It's great especially in the spring and fall when it's not too hot. Great Sunday Brunch as well.
Cheers

I was in Memphis on business last week and my local rep took me here for dinner one night. Unless you are downtown there are not a ton of great places to go for an out-of-towner.
The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Four of us sat in a booth within earshot of the bar and while a little loud, we had no problems hearing each other speak.
They make their own beers on site and I think I had one of each (OK, maybe two of each). They were all of excellent quality and I love when a restaurant takes the time to make something unique to their location.
They did a nice job with pollo diablo pizza. Just enough spice, but the chicken needs improvement. It seemed like it was boiled instead of grilled, which is a huge mistake on a pizza. It was cooked, but felt almost soggy. It wasn't enough to wreck the pie, but it seems like a simple fix would go a long way to improve it. One of the people I was with had a similar complaint with her dish as well.
The Good: The beers made on site are well made. The atmosphere is fun and cozy.
The Bad: A few of our meats seemed slightly undercooked.
The Band This Place Most Resembles: The Local House Band. You know what to expect and for the price it is a good time. -

On a Saturday night, after a movie it was quite crowded, but effortlessly the smiling staff found seating! Once settled in, the service (then soon after) waiter Michael was efficient, fast, and accommodating with smiles. I choose an comfort dish (shrimp carbonara), and was happy it was prepared well, seasoned right, shrimp not over cooked. On a bustling night, such a dish can be neglected. I was happy to see such a great mix of people in the crowd; pre-theater goers, students, after workers in business attire. Great atmosphere for chillaxing, conversation, and revelry alike~!

Oh Boscos how I LOVE your Sunday brunch. You get a lil Joyce Cobb singing and some delicious mimosas. This should be added to the tourist list for those visiting Memphis. I mean where can you get mimosas, blues AND cheese grits?? Where???!!!
So for all of you yelpers in Memphis on a Sunday please stop buy Boscos Squared you will NOT be disappointed. -

Visiting from Kansas City. I am an AB/ Bud light gal but my husband loves micro brew beers. He is raving about the Porter beer, the Dr. Dragica's Wheat isn't bad, very doable. I had the pollo diablo pizza, that was very good. Kudos to you Boscos!!!

In recent weeks there have been some changes in Bosco's staff. Changes that I and many other regulars and other staff feel bad about. Two bartenders, who were some really good folks were fired abruptly for very flimsy reasons having nothing to do with the economy. One had worked there almost five years and another nearly eleven. It is my understanding that not only did the managers fight for their jobs, but many of the patrons inquired as well. But as it turns out, the owner cares nothing about what his managers or the customers think. The two remain fired. So, go to Bosco's and enjoy the great beer and good service, I will, although not as often. But remember, as I will, often, the owner does not give a single shit about what you think, and you're paying him to do so.

It's own brewery inside...pretty awesome. One of the best go-to places in the Memphis area, if you're into avoiding the touristy bar-b-que joints. Great menu as well.

Boscos has one of the best patios in midtown- hands down- and this is perfect weather to enjoy it! I went here with the husband and a group of friends and was not disappointed.
Of course I checked up on Yelp before our visit to see what all the cool kids were ordering. I opted for the Germantown Purist wood-fired oven pizza. It is a very simple pizza- BBQ chicken, red onions, smoked and whole milk mozzarella. I opted for no red onions on mine this particular evening. The crust was superb- crispy and crunchy in all the right places with that perfect wood-fired oven smoke to it. It pairs nicely with the BBQ sauce used with the chicken. I would definitely order it again. The rest of our party had pizzas as well, except for the husband who opted for the black bean and goat cheese tamale. I helped myself to a few bites, and although it was good, I could not see myself eating more than a few bites of this dish. It is a little rich and the flavors a bit flat for me. It was definitely missing something- though I could not place what.
Boscos has a huge bar- think the expansiveness of the bar on Cheers. I like expansive squared off bars that encourage people with more than a party of 2 to sit down. I cannot wait to try their beer, but seeing as how I have a bun in the oven this was not an option this time around. When our waiter came to explain the beer choices in further detail I began to salivate. 4 more months!! Just 4 more months!
The patio is huge and I fully intend on utilizing it as much as possible before the weather gets too cold. Just take note if you ever drive down Madison and see a gal in a green winter coat and mittens on this expansive patio chowing down on some wood-fired pizza, it's probably me! Say hi, I don't bite. Unless you try and steal some of my pizza, then all bets are off.Listed in: 4 Stars, Midtown, Pizza Should Have Its Own Food…

People rave about this place and I am very confused. I am from Memphis but live in the bay area and was recently visiting family during the holiday and I had brunch at Boscos. As soon as I walked in - the jazz band was playing. As fun as that sounds were so freakin loud! We had to be sat in the back room just so we could talk to each other. Our server instantly pounced our table asking for drinks and we had not even opened up our menus. I informed her that we needed a few minutes to decide. She returned in 2 minutes asking again for our drinks. GEEZ - can we put our jackets down first?
I then ordered a benedict with artichoke heart, creamed spinach and something else with a side of fruit. When the plate arrived - I was already disappointed. The benedict was so small and the fruit slices were so paper thin that I could see through them. I basically got 3 bites of melon. yea. The benedict was quite flavorless and my eggs were over cooked. My beer was actually pretty darn tasty. Our server kept disappearing and when the bill arrived she complained that she does not receive her tips daily but on her paycheck. I don't want to know that....
Overview: Go for beer.....not food. -

I've given Boscos their last chance to produce an edible entree. To date I've had a spinach cannelloni that was clearly microwaved, a flavorless, overcooked $25 catch of the day, and the driest/saltiest chicken I've ever put in my mouth. On my last visit I had to order four times because they were out of so many items. What I did receive was shameful- salmon cooked to the color of pork, mashed potatoes poured over the plate at the consistency of split-pea soup, and a few pathetic spears of burnt asparagus. If you don't have a chef that can prepare a reasonable presentation of seafood, don't offer it! If you find yourself at Boscos, stick with the beer and, if you must eat, their pizza. At least it won't leave you with the sad, empty feeling their overpriced, underprepared entrees will.

There are three things that I really enjoy at Bosco's: Beer, Brunch, Patio.
Beer... they do their own craft brews which you can get in a growler for $14... which is a great price (that's 4 pints). They do a great hoppy IPA, have a high gravity on tap, and just overall have a great wood-filled interior bar area where it's nice to put a few back.
Brunch... is excellent at Bosco's Squared. They have very reasonably sized portions and it's generally quite full during brunch. I'm a big fan of the chicken and andouille hash with poached eggs on top. BIG fan. They do a pretty good mimosa and bloody mary as well.
Patio... in the spring/fall time frame, the Patio is a great place to sit outside. It's too damn hot in the summer, so forget about it unless it's late at night... but brunch on the patio in the spring... can't beat it.
As for the rest of the menu for lunch / dinner, it's not bad at all. If you're in the midtown area, I'd highly recommend. Also, they keep the kitchen open late (something like midnight or 1am), which is excellent for us who always find ourselves forgetting to eat dinner until 9pm or later! -

I agree wth many of you, Boscos has the best Patio in Midtown without a doubt. I love the pizza but I would not advise you to share it with anyone if you are the least bit hungry. My favorite beer is the Mid-town brown.

This was a nice place with good service and great beer. Atmosphere was like a typical microbrewery with a few different options of beers and bar food like burgers and pizza. Everyone seemed to love the beer with milk in it? Didn't try it cause it sounds gross but I encourage you to move out of your comfort zone!

I really don't get everyone's love affair with Bosco's. My general experience has been that both the food and drinks are mediocre and overpriced -- $14 for a smallish plate of bow tie pasta in a watery cream sauce, for instance, or $10 for a glass of champagne and grapefruit pulp. However, my recent brunch experience has turned me off Bosco's for good.
I ordered what was described as "Oskar Benedict", eggs benedict with crab meat and asparagus in addition to the usual English muffin, Canadian bacon, etc. When it arrived, the English muffin was hard as a rock -- obviously stale. I sent it back, and the second plate had a fresh muffin that had not been toasted, which made it taste like glue. I then realized that the "crab" was imitation (and very little -- I had to actively search for it on the plate), the asparagus was sliced up and honestly looked like green onions, and the entire thing was just terrible. I sent it back again and got a waffle instead, which was quite good, but then it's pretty hard to screw up a waffle.
What really surprised me was that, while the waiter was attentive and promptly removed the offending plates, he never apologized, and a manager delivered my waffle, but also did not apologize or inquire why I had sent back my previous order. It seems rather odd behavior for a restaurant that's obviously trying to be high-end (and not succeeding, in my opinion). So long, Bosco's -- I'm never coming back. -

One of my favorite parts about Memphis right here. Great beer. Try the Midtown Brown. For food I have never had anything bad. I usually get the black bean and goat cheese tamale and the chesapeake pizza. Fried artichike hearts are yummy
Ask for the garlic parmesan fries. They're not on the menu but they can make them!

Go here for the micro brews, seasonal brews, and their pizza. Simply put. It has a good American menu for food selection. My favorite is the Chesapeake pizza. If you go there, please take a solid look as to why. The portions are good for one person to take left overs home or split between two people for $10. Get a beer a piece, you escape with $20 plus tip, and there you go. Perfect date night.
When the weather is nice, ask to sit on their patio. It is really relaxing. Downside would be is that everyone else will agree with you. So, if you get there at 7pm on a Saturday, expect a good hour wait to get out there. This place has been a Memphis staple for awhile. Once you eat there, you'll get why. Many of the 'locals' will be sitting at the bar catching up on what ever is going on that day, others will bring their kids, or their significant others for a night out. It does have a kid menu selection, but only limited.
A good deal they have is where you can sample 8 of their beers. The total of it equals out to about a two and a half pints for under $10. But if you enjoy sampling, this will definitely be right up your alley. Personally, I do not like their summer ale... but don't take my word... try it for yourself! Love this place.
Attire is up to you really. Casual to dress casual... just be sensible, and enjoy. Heads up apology for the parking. Overtown Square is always a pain to find parking. Best suggestion would be to park near the movie theatre or by Le Chardonnay. -

Sunday brunch is divine. It begins at 10:30am. The mimosa's are fantastic. You can get a "double" in a large wine glass for $7.00 or a small mimosa in the traditional champagne flute. The eggs benedict are perfection. I've never ordered the waffles; however, several people at surrounding tables did. They looked and smelled delicious. Also, Joyce Cobb provides live entertainment. You simply can't beat brunch at Boscos.
If you're looking for something to do during the week, they have plenty of t.v.'s at the bar for watching sporting events - not huge flatscreens, but they do the job. Boscos brews their own beer. Midtown Brown and Flaming Stone are the most popular.Listed in: Best Brunch!

Review from Daniel H.
I go to Bosco's about 2-3 times a month. Usually I go for after work drinks and dinner, but occasionally I'll go for a weekend meal.
Food: I've tried several of their entrees, appetizers, and pizzas since I moved to Memphis, and I think the only thing they do really well is their wood-fired, thin-crust pizzas. These pizzas are reasonably priced and the perfect size for one person (or two people with small appetites). I think the California is the best, but occasionally I'll opt for one of the others depending on my mood. The other dishes I have tried were all decent, but kind of boring and I didn't think they had enough flavor to justify spending more than I would have spent on the pizza.
Drink: the place is a brewery, and I must say they do it well. They've always got something new on tap, and I have yet to try one that I thought was bad. Their beers are good at their worst, and often they create an incredible gem. My only complaint is that they sometimes run out of their specialty brews kind of quickly. I love the fact that they have enough respect for the variety and quality on their beer menu to not offer any beers other than theirs. I have also tried some of their wines once or twice, and I think they have a good selection-- I must say though, unless you just can't stand beer of any kind, stick with their beers. Your best bet is ordering their sampler which I had the first time I went, and I think comes with 8 3-oz. samples of beer.
Atmosphere: this is another thing they do really well. They've got a wonderful (somewhat small) dining room with a great feel to it, lit well, and centered around a spacious bar which is always pretty busy. This can make for a somewhat noisy experience sometimes, but I don't think it's overwhelming. They also have a huge outdoor patio which is great when weather permits.
Service: this is the one drawback to Bosco's. I have yet to have good service when I was here. Whether inside, outside, or at the bar, the service seems mediocre at best. I think the only way to get good service at this place is to be a well-known regular, know someone, or be a member of their Mug Club (I know they limit the number of members each year. I'm not sure whether the problems with the service are poor management, the fact that the place is near capacity all the time, or that the servers just don't care. If it weren't for the wonderful beers and pizzas, I think the service would keep me from going here. My advice is go to Bosco's only when you're feeling patient.
Bottom line: If you like good beer and fancy a decent meal in a good atmosphere while you drink it, this place is one of the best in Memphis. I highly recommend it, in spite of the need for improvement on service. -

Stopped for brunch on an early Sunday afternoon & it was crowded, needed to wait over 30 mins for a table. Pleasant atmosphere inside including live music which sounded pretty good. It seems like I've had a run with poor service as although the waitress was very friendly the service was not good. Some examples, brought coffe & tea without teaspoons & when we asked never saw any throughout the meal, also had to get her attention to bring us more coffee & finally was brought a cold toasted English Muffin & asked it to be toasted more & warmed up we finished our meal & never got it replaced. She apologized but still, come on!
As far as the food the omelet was very good as was the shrimp bisque soup, the limp crab poached eggs were delicious & so was the poached eggs with hash. The food was good but expect to wait & service might be spotty. -

More like 2.5 stars, as much as it pains me to say it. In its heyday, Boscos was THE place to go for a late night bite or a nice-ish dinner.
I went yesterday night and the in-house craft beer is still well-balanced with a wide selection (had the Belgian golden and the Midtown brown, an old standby), but that was basically the end of the positives. Maybe Boscos does better for their regular dinner crowd than for late night.
Service: We had to practically jump up and down while waving frantically to get our waiter's attention. He forgot to put in an order of ours -- just general incompetence.
Food: spinach artichoke dip seemed microwaved (rubbery veg and SUPER hot), and was covered with at least half a cup of grated (not melted) Parmesan. The crostini must have been the last of the day : tasted stale and splintered into shards when we tried to use it to pick up the dip.
We ordered a BBQ chicken pizza, which was just so-so. The crust wasn't as crispy as I remember.
Desserts: dry tiramisu, and an apple crisp that lacked the "crisp" topping completely.
As my husband pointed out, this was their late night, drunk-people-eat-anything menu, so I'd try again at dinner, but if I were judging on this experience alone, I'd say I've seen waaaay better. -

Memphis, TN
A 2.5, to be fair. The beer is good -- they actually brew their own. Pizzas are also very good. Outside of this, the food is okay. There isn't a lot of experimentation with the menu. What they have today they will have a year from now. The wait staff is friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere and design of the place resembles a Germantown restaurant circa 1999, so if you want an interesting atmosphere, this ain't the place.
However, they do pizza and beer well and the bartenders are good dudes. -

Melinda was awesome, should be promoted. Beer flight was tasty. Beer soup was rich and delicious. You can see some of the brewery equipment from the interior. It's too bad they don't let you take home growlers of all the beers, since the ones I wanted weren't available. Otherwise, I have 0 complaints. Exactly what it should be.

Had a great night out with friends. Service was good and it wasn't too crowded or loud. We sat on the patio and really enjoyed both the beer and the food. I had the steak sandwich with garlic fries. The spinach dip was just OK in my opinion. My friends had the bean and cheese tamale, veggie burger, and regular hamburger.

Gotta love a place that can not only thrive but excel in the old "square". My choice is always the Midtown Brown when it comes to beer. It is a slightly dark beer with caramel undertones. Delicious. If you like something lighter go for the Flaming Stone.
As for appetizers: Ahi Tuna tacos, fried artichokes or get their Garlic Parmesean Fries (not listed but they do serve them!)
We like this place so much we named our dog "Bosco" -

There on a Sunday afternoon. Enjoyed the atmosphere. Service a little slow; food lukewarm, although, well presented. Family gave experience a C+; the music and atmosphere weighed heavily. Also, a bit pricey: $11 burger in Memphis. A better burger can be had for $5 at a place not too far away.

Great spot for a great beer or dessert. Boscos brews their own beer and its quite delicious. The Flaming stone ale is made by actually lowering a hot brick into the beer during the brewing process. Awarded "Three Stars" by Michael Jackson, No, not that one, the world's leading beer writer you dolt! Try Grand marnier creme brulee.
Pros: Great location, hits the spot with good desserts and homemade beer.
Cons: Can be really busy on the weekends. -

Bosco's is a great place to go for beer lovers. They brew several varieties of beer and have lot of choices. They also offer a decent size wine list. The food is good, they are best known for their wood fired oven pizzas. Lot's of creative pizza options, my favorite it the California followed by the BBQ Chicken.
The dinner menu has entrees ranging from shrimp and grits to a Black Bean and Goat Cheese Tamale (sounds a little strange but oh so good), they have sandwiches pasta and salads- I like the Gorgonzola pear salad.
Sunday Brunch here is great and Joyce Cobb provides the entertainment from 10:30-3:00. You order from the brunch menu and sit inside to hear Joyce Cobb. The brunch menu consists of omelets (prosciutto and artichoke is good), different varieties of eggs Benedict, waffles, sandwiches and entrees like shrimp and grits. Most items are under $10.00. You can't beat that! If you go for brunch you have to have one of their Bloody Marys, just makes the whole experience that much better. -

I used to frequent Bosco's prior to meeting my husband. He doesn't love it, so we rarely go. I miss my brick oven pizza- the Palermo is the best, and the BBQ chicken is a close second. I also love the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer, as well as the calamari.
Bosco's brews their own beer, and the Flaming Stone and IPA are favorites (and the lightest available). There are plenty of choices for those that prefer the heavier variety of hops though.
I've also had brunch here, and love the Oskar Benedict. Joyce Cobb played brunches here for a long time, and I'm not sure if you can still catch her there on Sundays, but if so, you need to go. Dine inside for the entertainment, or move outdoors to the large patio during the cooler temperatures. -

I have been to Bosco's many times over the years, and have always enjoyed it. I like the atmosphere, which is comfortable and inviting and just trendy enough to be hip with Midtowners.
Located in Overton Square, it makes a great place to go for drinks before or after a movie at nearby Malco's Studio on the Square. And if you are a beer person, you'll appreciate their own brewed varieties. It's very good.
I also enjoy the food here. The gourmet pizzas are a favorite with me, as well as their black bean enchiladas.
As others have mentioned, they have outdoor seating and the patio is one of the best in Midtown. -

Met a friend here last night after work to enjoy the weather relaxing on the patio. This was my first visit to this location and I must tell you I was pleasantly surprised. I have not visited this particular area of mid-town since Silky's closed down (circa 1990 something). The area was still very quaint and clean. Only negative was there seemed to be limited parking for all of the business that was in the area. Ooops...I even got a parking violation ticket!
We arrived around 5:30p and were still able to get patio seating on a Friday night. Any later and that may have not been the case. We ordered the Stuffed Portabella as an appetizer and the California Pizza as our entree. Both were very good.
I will definitely return when in the mid-town area again! -

Bosco's is just fine for lunch or dinner. Nothing to get too excited about, nothing really wrong with it, the B is turning into a bit of a chain with several locations in Memphis and more opening all over Tennessee (Nashville, Chattanooga, etc.).
For cooler days, they have a patio. For days ending in -y, they have beer made on the premises.
My menu suggestions would be their garlic parmesan fries (because who couldn't use more fat with their fried?), the salmon with a sweet soy glaze, and the changing selection of bread puddings.
I've stopped sitting in the booths along the brick wall (where art is hung) after watching a roach crawl along it and onto our table.
The place always otherwise looks very clean, and wherever you have food (and piles of hops- used for making beer- on premises), you're going to get roaches. No restaurant can perfectly contain that problem, but it was still pretty sickifying.Listed in: Midtown Lunches

So I feel out of place here with a less than stellar review, but it's how it went down!!!
My boyfriend was visiting from Seattle for the week, we were staying in Memphis for a couple of nights, and after reading the reviews for this place on here, we decided to give it a go.
Can't say anything negative about the location/atmosphere/service but the food was a let down.
It was a Friday night, it was getting crazy busy but we were seated pretty quickly outside on the patio (which was nice). I was on the fence about ordering the Ahi Tuna Salad because I tend to avoid seafood in a landlocked state, for obvious reasons. However, I ordered it. How bad could it be?
Needless to say, it wasn't what I expected. I didn't even eat 1/8 of it and the Carbonara pasta my BF ordered had a really odd taste that I still can't figure out what it could've been. Weird. The tuna was definitely from the belly. But it's not like it was toro. Maybe it's a preference thing, but I just don't care for tuna belly with a lot of chewy sinews through it. But more sadly, I could tell that my poor tuna was on it's way out (meaning: it wasn't a lovely beautiful red/pinkish color of Ahi; more like 'grainy' and brown) I mean, if the salad can't be awesome then why even offer it on the menu? Scrap the food cost for flying that stuff in every week and just replace it something else local and fresh.
I will give this place another try though and NOT order the tuna. It could have been one of those one time bad experiences. I know the kitchen works balls to the wall, but It's just hard for me to eat sub-par fish after living in Seattle. Hmmmm, next time, I'll get a pizza...or just go out for sushi to fix my tuna craving. -

Being a regular visitor of the Memphis area for work, I was finally introduced to the Midtown area, specifically Boscos, by my boss for brunch one Sunday. We walked in and I was impressed by the decor - brick walls with local gallery paintings. Wood tables and chairs, as well as hardwood.
The hostesses and waitresses clad in all black, very good looking. We were promptly seated and I ordered an omelet. Excellent coffee. Food came out promptly and it was one of the better omelets I can remember having. I remember being impressed by the level of service and the overall menu they had, and was sad I was only able to try one thing on the menu.
Needless to say, a month later I came back on my own for work. I sat at the bar area and talked to the bartender about their beer selection. They brew their own craft beers, which I'm always willing to try no matter what city I'm at, no matter what brewery I'm at.
I tried every beer they had on draft - the only ones I remember being their Flaming Stone and Midtown Brown. All the beers I ended up having were excellent. Between the bartender comping a beer here and there, and the friendly couple striking up a conversation with the lonely out of towner, it was a very welcoming environment.
I tried their Pollo Diablo - a wonderful combo chicken, peppers, multiple cheeses, and a special sauce. I've also enjoyed the Palermo on a separate occasion. The pizzas are satisfying and an excellent portion for one person, almost too much depending on how hungry you are.
Bosco's...by far and away my favorite spot to go to in Memphis.
