Borrowed Bucks Roadhouse
6 reviews for Borrowed Bucks Roadhouse
Gotta get your country and college drinking on mad style here! woo hoo for wasted line dancing! and then some nights woo hoo for wasted top 40!
always have a good time here though.
Upon entering your greeted by bouncers who care more about who they've kicked out then wanting you too drink there. Once your in your greeted by a wide open floor and several bars too pick from and one corner even has some black jack. The dance floor is ok sized but the the fact they play slow dance country and old music that hasn't been in the top 100 for 15 years makes it lame. People flee from the dance floor from anything but new top 20 tunes. The minimum tab is 20 bucks so unless its a specials night bring cash and expect to spend a lot. The test tube shots aren't worth the 3.50 either, theres barely anything in them, and the waitresses are the most unfun non interactive non smiling individuals i've ever met.
All this tied with other reviews and what friends have told me this place including mrg's, big d's, and the hub has some serious reworking to do with there dj's and and club style. Less about who they let in and more about what should be fun would make it so much better anywhere here in fargo. In my opinion take the 3 hours and drive to minneapolis and go clubbing or if your from the bigger states like phoenix or la, just go back cuz you won't find that fun here.
Ah, the music is OK I suppose....more tolerable on weekends than weeknights. If it isn't a Friday or Saturday, you had BETTER love country music or you are going to have one hell of a headache by the time you leave. On weekends, it's more your standard Top 40 fare...nothing too adventurous. The good thing is, once you're drunk enough you probably won't care. The waitress are alright, but the shots in the test tubes is a little tacky. Plus, I'll bet they skimp on the size of shots that way....because it may visually look like a lot due to its height, but it's probably actually less. That's good marketing right there!!
The dance floor is fine....the drinks are standard prices....it's basically just...blah. Is that an OK way to wrap it up?? Blah.
Wow! $1 PREMIUM drink specials on Friday nights, and $2 specials on Saturdays? No wonder this place is so popular!
We were there on a Saturday, and the crowd was energetic and friendly, but not insane. No one seemed to give a crap about being seen - everyone just wanted to have a good time. The bar is plenty spacious, and has a good-sized dance floor that was hoppin' the whole evening. The DJ played a great selection of dance, 80s, and what I would call "danceable country."
Service was very good; I was able to walk right up to the bar all night and never had to wait. They have blackjack tables and some kind of lottery game all the time. The atmosphere is fun and clean, and the bathrooms are actually lovely - although you do have to stagger downstairs to use them which sucks a little. (Actually it sucks a lot after multiple $2 drink specials...)
Believe it or not, Borrowed Buck's has me looking forward to my next trip to North Dakota. If that doesn't warrant a five-star review, I don't know what does!
A buddy of mine was there one night, heard Bucks in Fargo was a lot better than the one in Grand Forks, anyway, I was with a buddy and he confronted a jerk who was hassling his girlfriend and when my buddy confronted the guy a fat idiotic bouncer who isn't trained well grabbed him from behind and took him out back and made sure none of us could go back there in the back parking lot area. The bouncer slammed my buddy head first into the pavement and gets away with it. My buddy had a broken nose and suffered a concussion. He tried to sue, but only had one witness while that fat bouncer had morons lying for him. Anyway, doesn't matter, is that how you treat customers? Slamming their faces into the pavement? The guy had two other bouncers with him and my buddy is a shorter guy. Pretty sad. All my friends quit going there after that incident. The Hub is the best place to go in Fargo, ND.
My memories of this place involved having my id to get in denied, and then (after getting my passport) just sitting inside, with lousy music playing, and low quality drinks being drunk. In fact, I remember the drinks coming in test tubes. Yipee.
