Mmmm. I thought I had reviewed the Borrego Valley Inn last year. But, can't find it.
The Borrego Valley Inn is not only a hidden desert jewel located east of San Diego, but a wonderful place to relax and have your artistic senses revived and stimulated. The buildings, rooms, grounds, and decorative fixtures all combine into a resultant refreshing mental experience.
The Inn and grounds are beautiful in themselves, but also have been decorated tastefully and with talent. It is wonderful just to sit outside on native wood mission chairs, beverage in hand, and take in the garden that is located in and around the Inn.
This was our second annual visit. Both times, we stayed two nights and were blissfully and magically transformed by the experience. The staff is very attentive, the breakfasts are more than was expected, and the room, as with last year, was really superb...and as we have stayed in many inns and upscale hotels, when I tell you that these haven inn rooms are exceptionally well decorated, equipped, and accessorized, it is by comparison with many other inn and hotel experiences.
Each room is decorated with native American artifacts, microwave, fireplace, iTunes device, and antique area-appropriate furnishings are all there. Each room has a private garden with gate. Fireplaces are in the room, lobby and outside in an al fresco dining area. The grounds are a veritable art gallery with many places being Kodak moments in themselves. You imagine you're in paradise, but the coyote cries and moon rising over the near by mountain peaks return you to reality.
We will be back. Hopefully next year. Oh, there is, I believe, a 3-day minimum stay required. But, don't take this seriously.. With both stays, we wait listed ourselves and got in for a two-day stay. Do this, it's definitely worth it.
Enjoy.

We just came back from a WONDERFUL night spent at Borrego Valley Inn. The room we stayed in (Desert Lilly) was gorgeous with a fireplace and private patio. The grounds are so peaceful and beautiful - love the aviary with all the little birds! We enjoyed a warm welcome from Kathy, who walked us to our room with fresh cookies in hand. During the evening, we star-gazed and listened to a pack of coyotes running through. So magical! The next morning, we watched the sun rise over the mountains and enjoyed their extended continental breakfast. Chatted with Leslie (a fellow Canadian turned Californian who was manning reception that AM). Enjoyed the hot tubs and were on our merry way. Totally awesome and will absolutely be back!
(Just a note: the reception closes at 6PM, so keep that in mind if you're coming from other parks within the area e.g. Joshua Tree, Salton Sea, Anza-Borrego, etc. We arrived just in the nick of time! Kathy would have left keys for us, but it's always nice to see a person when you're arriving at a new hotel/B&B.) -

Probably the best kept secret beside the fact it sits next to the largest California State park. Rich & Gwen run this adorable B & B with rooms that are just too Southwest cute to describe. We rented most the rooms their for our friends and family the year we got married.
Breakfast is delicious. Activities galore in the area. Trust me And for an intimate getaway? You couldn't ask for anything better.
Try it. Btw there is way too much to see in the landscape of this desert in just 1 weekend...it draws you back. -

We had such a fantastic time here. Secluded, peaceful and pretty, it's a great place to either just relax or use as a base for exploring Anza Borrego Desert State Park.
The hot-tub was perfect for the cool (mid-April) desert nights. -

What a disappointing experience we had with Borrego Valley Inn!!!! We have been wanting to go for years but were unable to go and leave our older dog. Sadly he passed and we were able to go, booked the reservation on a sunny day at home in San Diego. We were told that they have a SEVEN day cancelation policy but couldn't imagine that being an issue. The weekend arrived and it was the biggest storm of the year . I called to cancel and both the receptionist and then later, Rich, said they would try to rerent the room out. If they could do so, we would not be charged. They both said that I could check the website and if it said there was no availability, it had been rented to someone else. We checked four times throughout the day and it said there was no availability. Hmmmmm. I found Rich to be exceedingly rude and insensitive. He said even if someone had an emergency, he would charge them. I asked if we could pay in full and then at a later date , maybe during the week, when they had plenty of rooms available, use the credit. Absolutely not. He had no interest in accommodating anyone. Completely inflexible. And as I said, very rude.
My husband and I would never want to stay somewhere with owners that care so little about anything more than making their money.
I can't recommend more strongly that you have to be prepared for the possibility of loosing your money if something arises and you need to cancel within seven days of your reservation. The weather conditions were dangerous getting to the desert and though he certainly had no control over that, he should have been willing to let us go at another less popular time. Very very disappointing!!!! -

I came with my significant other, he was leaning toward the resort with the golf course, etcetera, but I felt this place had more charm and would offer a more unique experience. So after some convincing we came here, and it was a horrid idea to come to Borrego Springs during August. The sun was scorching and most of the businesses were closed. There was really not much to do, just being outside made you dizzy.
The property seemed empty and was very quiet. Even so I loved our room, we stayed in an end unit and it was nicely equipped and thoughtfully decorated. I also really liked the grounds of the inn, it's well maintained and nicely landscaped. The pool was fun, I was excited to use their clothing optional pool, but we used the regular pool instead because of the beautiful desert view (the clothing optional pool is enclosed). Despite liking many things about the inn, there were some things that bothered me. First off, there's a cage with finches smack in the middle of the property and it apparently attracts some wild birds to the grounds. I was startled when I saw a roadrunner dash in front of me on the first day (I don't like birds), and the next day he was standing outside my room on top of one of the sitting chairs. Another thing that bothered me was the fact that housekeeping is only available until 1pm and it is apparently just one woman. We got a call before noon from her stating that she was leaving soon, so we had to get out of bed for her to come. Another thing that was disappointing was their check out time. It's very early compared to other places at 11:30, and after a tiring day we asked if it was possible to check out a half hour later at 12pm and we were told no. The owner also stated that the next guests were waiting for our room already which shouldn't have been an issue since their check in isn't until 4pm anyhow if they're going to go by the rules. The inn seemed so empty and there wasn't anyone in the lobby or on the grounds that her excuse seemed strange. There was nothing for us to do but hurry up and get out, but when it was a couple minutes passed 11:30, 11:37 to be exact, our phone was already ringing with her on the line at which point we had to explain to her that we were about to walk out of the door. Just for this reason, I think I'll opt for the resort next time. -

This is a secluded getaway on very nice grounds, close to the mall in Borrego. You can leave your car and walk or bike to alot of things around town. This is an expensive palce for Borrego Springs but they do not cut any corners. Don't come here with children, I don't know if they even allow them, personally I hope they never do. The rooms are nice, the pools and grounds are nice, evrything works and is well kept.
