  Born Movers helped us move out of our house into PODS storage units.  The price was right.  They called the night before to ask if they could come earlier.  Instead of 9am, they asked for 7am.  Then they didn't show up until 7:30.  They lost hold of the 1st thing that came down the stairs & broke the cover on the motion detector for our home security system.  So, not off to a good start.
  
  Things did get better.  The main guy (I think his name was Rene) was VERY good, professional, etc., but his assistant was clueless.  Rene had to tell him to do every little thing.  It was obvious that Rene was irritated with him as well.  
  
  Somehow they managed to get our entire move done in 3 hours!  I was overall pleased with the move, and will use them again when we move from storage into our new house, as long as Rene brings a different helper!!

  We first used Born Moving in June of 2010 to unpack our U-Haul and move our heavy stuff into our San Leandro apartment.  They were awesome and the best $150 we'd ever spent.  So when we decided to move again last month, we called Born Moving.
  
  That was a mistake.  
  
  The two men for our move last month were nice, but pretty slow.  We had moved a fair amount of stuff out of our 2-bedroom apartment before they came, and yet it still took 4.5 hours to complete our move to Richmond.  I don't know how much of this had to do with the fact that they're paid hourly.
  
  In the process of the move, they managed to break our coffee table.  I understand that things get broken in a move, and we suggested to Duane when we settled the bill that he should just take $50 off our bill to compensate us for the broken coffee table.
  
  Instead, Duane insisted that he had to get their insurance company involved.  He swore that the insurance company would call us by the end of the week (we moved on a Wednesday).  No call from them.  We called Duane twice, and he said he would call the insurance again.  Still no call from them.  We called Duane yet again, and left him a message.  In that message, we told him we still hadn't heard from the insurance company and asked for the company's number.  Duane has yet to call us back.  So here we are, 25 days after our move, and we still haven't heard from the insurance company -- and doubt we'll hear from Duane again.
  
  Would we use them again?  Unlikely.

  He failed to take into consideration that the first time we worked with him all we had to do was unload his u-haul truck. There was no furniture prep (wrapping) , loading our truck, driving up to Richmond, unloading, and then unwrapping. Anyone see where I'm going with this? It seems pretty obvious that it would take longer the second time.
  
  As for the coffee table ... when the leg fell off (yes literally FELL OFF. It was super cheaply made of some type of particle board and the whole thing was falling apart. Did I mention it looked like a polar bear had been snacking on it? ) he asked my guys to dump it for him. Normally when someone wants me to dump unwanted Items I would charge a reasonable "dump fee", but since my guys told him sure no problem and tossed it in the truck before I had a chance to discuss this fee I figured eh what the hell, no big deal.
  
  So then coincidently as it comes time to settle up the bill,  the unwanted , falling apart table turned into a table he was upset to see broken at the hands of my movers? Funny how that seams to work out like that. He casually says just take fifty bucks off the bill and we're even....  Umm No. I'm no spring chicken.   What we have here is a classic case of  Let's see what we can get out of it. I wasn't even going to entertain that idea. So , yes this went straight to the insurance company . Also let me add that I'm proud to say this is our first claim in over 10 years! Some people think that they can use yelp as a bribing tool. "If you don't bend to their game they will try to make you look bad." Its quite alright. We will not  be bullied or taken advantage of. Sure some might say why not just give him $50 and get a good review?  I think I speak for all movers when I say we do not work as hard as we do to be subjected to this.

  Warning, Warning, Warning!!! Do not go for the hourly rate...the crew I had was so slow...I mean like a 8-10 hr job went into overtime and into the wee hours of the night, it turned into a 20 hour job. I literally witnessed the men moving one shelf from a book case at at time from my storage unit to the moving truck. When I wrote a letter to the owner asking him to honor the original quote for the entire job and give me a refund, he did not even have the courtesy to answer back. I truly believe he took advantage of me, a single senior living on Social Security, by not being honest about how slow his crew was and not encouraging me to take the single job bid he gave me. Also check to see how their insurance figures the pay off for damage...that's a joke too!

  I am truly greatful that yelp allows  owners the opportunity  to respond to customer comments.  Those of you that already know us or are here because we were recommended to you by a friend or coworker are probably scratching your heads in confusion because this dosn't sound like the bornmoving you know or heard about. So let me start by saying that there is no "Beckie U." in Hayward. This job does not exist. We are a small business , small enough that I can take every phone call and schedule every appointment by myself. For those of you that have already called or that are going to call know or will find that when you call you will reach me (Duane Fagan) every time . I also make it a point to meet every single one of my customers.  So let me tell you where this story comes from... on sunday the 22nd  at 2:30 in the afternoon we arrived to our second job of the day. I was the driver that day and had brought two movers with me (I am no longer a mover myself due to a recent back injury ). We would be relocating a young woman who we will not name. It was a very small job that she was trying to accomplish in 3 hours. We would be making 3 stops for her in san francisco. The first stop went smooth, just picking  up a shelving unit from a third story apartment. Second stop also seemed to go smooth just picking up a handful of things from a shared apartment and we were making great time. We dropped off everything at her new place and she seemed very happy. Everyone got along well and there was no damaged furniture. There were jokes ,laughter and  not a hint that anything was wrong. She was so happy that she included an extra 100 dollars in the check for a tip! Everybody was happy and we went on to our next job.  I wish I could tell you that the story ended there , but unfortunately not ... the next afternoon  I received a call from her saying that she needed to talk to me about something that happened on her move. She explains   to me that at the second location (where we're picking her belongings up from her old apartment)  that about 10-15 minutes after arriving she noticed that there was 300 dollars she placed on a dresser that had disappeared and she is certain that my movers took the money  even with me there .  What? !! ?  you are probably wondering if you read the story correctly because it doesn't make sense right ? No ,you read it right ...2 hours after she noticed the money was gone  and was certain that 1 of my guys took it she still tipped them 50 dollars a piece and was happy?!   I tried to explain to her that what she was telling me didn't make any sense.  #1 I was there . #2 even if I wasn't there ,these are 2 guys that have been going to my church and been working with us for over 5 years.  I can trust these guys with my kids! So then I get a call from her boyfriend who mostly  just wanted to cuss at me and make threats. He said that he is in the internet marketing business and has the power to burn my business to the ground. So since it seems that he is internet savvy he might be able to post multiple times without being filtered or blocked.  I'm sure that he will read this and I can only hope that they will continue to look for the money because I am certain that it is there. In the meantime we can probably  expect a couple more stories here on yelp and possibly other places on the net.  Fortunately for us he didn't count on the fact that we have a great name built on many years of honesty. We have never done any of our customers wrong and would never bring anyone into our family that has the potential to steal. All of my movers have children of their own. Not only would it be crazy for them to jeopardize the job that takes care of there kids but it would be crazy for me to bring somebody in that has the potential of jeopardizing that for my family and my children.  WE ARE ABOUT FAMILY! WE DO NOT STEAL!  If another review pops up here that is not real I will comment next to it that it is the same guy. I have no problem with reviews that are not so great, everyone is entitled to their opinion of our service as long as they are honest , real reviews.  if you would like to read a negative review that is real   you can find 1 in our filtered section from Emeryville. I'm not sure why that review got filtered, it actually was a real review.

  Available at the last minute, honest, and straightforward. I'd happily use them again. Ask for the flat rate option if you're worried about time. I got a flat rate quote and was extremely satisfied. All items were loaded nicely and arrived in perfect condition.
