wow.... just awesome!
I can't believe I missed this place during my last visit. -
Review from Ida C.
Borgatti's, you dastardly rogue! You've ruined me for other ravioli forever!
Seriously, these guys have been making pasta the same way for 70+ years and it's pretty clear that they have it down pat. The place gets pretty crowded with Italian nonnas and other people who are also passionate about food, so don't be shy about flagging down one of the super-helpful staff.
There are two types of ravoili available: ricotta cheese and meat & spinach. Prices are super reasonable, and the ravioli are perfect with any preparation. I particularly enjoyed the meat & spinach in a simple beef broth. The ricotta cheese ravioli were even perfect plain! The cooking process was very easy: simply boil gently for 8 minutes
PARTING THOUGHT: I'm trying the squid ink pasta next time! -

Awesome Ravioli. Enough Said.
Also, the ravioli does well if you freeze it, not quite as good as fresh, but still good and much better than frozen ravioli from other places.Listed in: Arthur Ave.

New York, NY
When I first moved to New York City, I went to Borgatti's for my very first box of New York ravioli and immediately loved them. "These ravioli are delicious!" I thought to myself. "They don't even need sauce!"
And so I made a solemn promise -- a vow, if you will -- to come back to Borgatti's again and again to satisfy all of my ravioli needs.
But soon my treacherous little heart started to lust after other pasta makers. I secretly wondered what those other, yet unknown to me, ravioli might taste like. Would Raffetto's in Manhattan satisfy me more? Would my personality click better with Savino's in Brooklyn? Could I do better than Borgatti's?
And so, like an unfaithful lover, I strayed. I sampled other ravioli. And, just as I deserved, I felt dirty and disappointed after every underwhelming bite.
I'm sorry, Borgatti's. I'll never leave you again.Listed in: (Way) Uptown Girl, Making Me Fat

The pasta made here can't even compare to the shops in Little Italy in Manhattan. and the prices are incredibly low.

Hard to add anything new to long list of great reviews.
All I can say is this... I sometimes go to a farmer's market where someone is selling designer pasta for $7-10 a pack, wrapped in plastic and a bow.
I look at it but never buy. It might be good, but seems contrived.
I visit Borgatti's for the first time today and they give me a re-usable bag, stack of recipes, and consulted with me on what's the best pasta to go with the giant bag of mushrooms I just bought at a market. The owners and the grandma all offer advice.
They suggested a fresh tagliatelle, then suggested a certain width, cut it to order, prepped it, and sent me out the door with a half pound of love, $2.50 poorer.
There are times when NY seems to be anonymous, terse and overpriced. But gems like this place remind you that the city also offers magic, in small doses, delivered by people with passion for sharing their simple works of art. If you like pasta, treat yourself to a trip here and let them do their thing. -

I've been going here for many years now. It is great to see the pride and craftsmanship the family applies to their business. While the old hand-cranked pasta machines have (sadly) been replaced by modern machines, the result is still the same....the best home made pasta around!

Review from Lydia L.
I woke up this morning feeling really great. It is a clear sunny day, the birds are singing, my rooster is crowing and the temperature just right. I also slept really well. Why do I mention these things? Because for dinner last night we had the ravioli for dinner that we purchased earlier that day at Borgatti's and they made my belly very happy.
I had never been to Arthur Avenue before but when I yelped the area, Borgatti's immediately caught my eye. I love freshly made pasta and, short of making it myself, this is as good as it gets.
The shop is other worldly with all sorts of temptations from which to choose. Being that we are pescetarians, their meat and spinach ravioli, though they looked lovely, were not for us. So there were the large cheese, 27 to a box for $12.50, or 100 small ones for the same price, I believe. We got the large ones as I probably would eat 49 of the small (!) and somehow getting the large seemed like a better plan for the waistline ;)
I did not see Borgatti's flavored egg noodles but wish I had. I love squid ink pasta. It reminds me of Harry's Bar in Venezia. That was some good pasta! But next time I go, with my wits in a better place, I will be sure to pay attention to their offerings.
The ravioli, I made 9 of them, and that was plenty, leaving the others in the freezer for two future meals. They were soft pillowy cheesey delights. Besides being freshly made which made them taste super yummy, it was clear that the most important ingredients every chef/cook needs was in there in abundance-love and passion.
There is a reason Borgatti is celebrating its 75th anniversary, that make-a a mean ravioli! YUM YUM! and offer their in store customers a mini-trip to Italy. Mangia bene tutti!

As a college student, I have to work really hard to not to fall into the trap that is the "college student diet." You know, pizza every night, ramen noodles, and PB&J. That's why I absolutely adore Borgatti's raviolis! Minimal effort for a great meal. A box of 27 large raviolis last me at least five meals. I usually just boil them until they float, and toss them with some good olive oil and garlic. Yummy!
Just all around a great family-run business. You can really tell they take pride in what they do, and the workers are so helpful if you need any advice. -

Awesome fresh-made raviolis at this tiny little specialty store, and they also have other fresh pastas that you can see them making right in front of you.
I am not sure you can buy better pasta anywhere in the U.S. The service is always great as well, even though the place can be extremely busy and crowded.
The meat and spinach raviolis are my favorite, followed by the cheese raviolis, or is it the other way around? Maybe I will have to keep trying both over and over until I make up my mind... and of course I'll have some fresh cavateli once in a while as well... -

Get here early!!!!! We actually were there an hour before they opened and knocked and they sold us 3 boxs of the ravioli! They really are like little pillows of lightly filled cheese heaven. It really only takes a few and a box will last many meals! Simple sauce if any, red wine, a little anti pasta and food coma here I come:) I am hoping my BF can get a care package over nighted!!!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to buy their fresh pasta since I don't live in the area (or the state for that matter), but this shop is so old school that it deserves positive buzz. Not only can you get fresh pasta here, but they even the cut the sheets to your specification on the spot. Wow. There can't be too many places like this (family run fresh pasta shop) left and I hope it sticks around.
The place smells like fresh pasta. They have different kinds too, like carrot. They're known for ravioli which surely must be good, like your Italian grandmother would make. It was so crowded that I only spent a few minutes inside their little shop. They have shelves full of jarred pasta sauce. I'm not sure if they also make their own pasta sauce.

Me like pasta. Me like Borgatti's.
If you're touring the area this is another one of those must stops. Great selection of pastas -- some fresh;some dried. Two kinds of ravioli. Nice stuff.
Avoid the products not made by them. I think they're there to sucker the tourists. Well, you didn't fool me Borgatti's. You didn't fool me. -

Westchester, NY
The area around Arthur Avenue has turned into a well-known touristy destination for those seeking an authentic old school Bronx experience-- as such, the experience has lost some of its authenticity. Borgatti's, however, still offers up the most un-fucking-believable fresh cheese ravioli in the universe; yes, other types of pasta are available, which are delicious, as Gail B. noted, but their $10 boxes of 27 ravioli are the closest to eating nirvana you will achieve on this planet.
Boil till they float, and don't bother with sauce-- it would be an insult to the ravioli.Listed in: Consistently Great, the Bronx needs some love!

The Good: Freshly made pasta, cut-to-order (And OH-SO-CHEAP!!!) My favorite is, without a doubt, the fresh fettucini, which makes amazing carbonara with the recipe they so lovingly tuck into your bag. But the hand-made dried spinach and mushroom pastas are respectively amazing on their own, with just a light toss of your best olive oil.
The Bad: The only possible downside to this adorable mom-n-pop shop is that they are closed on Mondays. I can even deal with the cash only policy, considering how comparable the prices are to dried pasta from the supermarket.
The Ugly: My subsequent waist-line. Did I mention that Borgatti's is only a short walk from my house?
Borgatti's will have you saying 'buh-bye' to boxed Barilla in one bite.Listed in: North Bronx...North North…

Review from Gail B.
Bronx, NY
There are places that evoke the desire to cook even in those that do not know how. Entering Borgatti's reminds you why you love food and makes you appreciate the art of food preparation. Little has changed since the storefront opened in 1935. It is still a family-owned business in the Italian section of the Bronx (although today the Belmont area is much more diverse). Every space is utilized. The shelves are lined with freshly-dried homemade pastas, imported semolinas, and tomato sauces. The ceiling is lined with racks of drying pasta. Family photos hang over pasta making equipment, and the refrigerators display bumper stickers about Jesus and Saying No to Drugs.
They also happen to make the best pasta I have ever eaten. Borgatti's makes plain, spinach, whole-wheat, and squid ink pasta. I used to think of eating whole-wheat pasta as if it were a chore; they all tasted so gummy and heavy. But when you try Borgatti's, you might actually make the switch. All their pasta is cut to size. You just pick how many pounds of pasta you want, point to the desired width, and they cut it on the spot. Then they wrap it up for you in white butcher paper, throw cornmeal on it, and ask you what you want next. That's when you ask for a box of home-made raviolis or manicottis.
But what are truly amazing are their prices. They are so reasonable that it is almost cheaper to buy fresh then buying imported (and by imported I even mean Barilla). I almost always buy a few extra pounds of the fresh pasta and then freeze when I get home.
Borgatti's is not a secret to the locals. On a Saturday there is usually a line out the door. Since they close early on the weekdays, it is really hard to get there after work. And Borgatti's is cash only.Listed in: Pantry Staples to Make Julia…

I brave the # 19 bus through the south bronx on a saturday afternoon twice a month to buy this Ravioli. I don't really need to write anything else for this review.
But,
Nicest, friendliest, old school mom and pop, authentic, best pasta ever.
I make a quick fresh sauce, simple and only as a compliment because it can be eaten alone with NOTHING on it.
Fresh grated pecorino, a glass of wine and all is right with the world.
At least until the next ride on the #19 bus.Listed in: It's Da Boogie Down

My dad LOVES the ravioli's from this place. My grandma is still raving about the mushroom pasta I bought her 2 months ago and I could eat their spinach pasta every day!
This place is cheap, for NY, and the service was very friendly. You can get their fresh cut pasta, cut the size you want it OR you can get a bag of dried pasta as well. Don't bother with the jarred sauces and things, as they are way over-priced. Just stick with the pasta and get your grandma to make some sauce and you're set for an awesome Sunday dinner. Or Tuesday. Or Friday. Geez, I could eat this stuff everyday. This is a must-stop every time I'm in the Bronx. Give em a try! -

On the way back to the D train from the Bronx Zoo, I decided to stop around Arthur Avenue for some dinner supplies. Borgatti's was busy, and looked like the perfect spot to score some tasty fresh pasta.
I walked up the counter and asked for a pound of No. 2 shaped pasta, which is about the width of tagliatelle. You can choose the width you prefer, and they'll cut it while you wait. Most amazingly, it all cost around three dollars. I prepared the pasta with only a small amount of sauce because the stuff is so good, it needs little else.
Being that it's been around for 70 years, I'm surprised more Yelpers haven't flocked to Borgatti's to get their hands on what's probably the best, homemade, reasonably priced pasta in New York City. -

I walked out to Little Italy in the Bronx after suffering the zoo. aye, why do I go to zoos...
This neighborhood is tiny and ridiculously adorable and so worth the journey.
Borgatti's on 187th. A family run place, father and son are behind the counter doing impressions of each other as I check out the sauces on the rack to the right. The pasta is all hand rolled and cut and the place smells fresh like flour and salt. I order a pound of the spinach fettuccine and the son cranks down this big wooden drying rack with a rope pulley tied to the wall behind the register. The pasta is laid out in long twisted loops and he untangles a pound of it easily, barely bothering to look at the scale when he weighs it, knowing he has just enough. -

They make the best ravioli I've ever tasted. The cheese ravioli is so delicious that you don't even need any sauce. You can literally just boil it and eat it. The fresh pasta is good too and reasonably priced. The only complaint is that it's so hard to get in there because the line is always so long.

Been coming here with my Grandmother, Mother and Aunts since I was a little girl. It doesn't get any better than this. The ravioli are the best in the New York metropolitan area as is the fresh pasta. I love this beautiful old fashioned family pasta shop.

Absolutely amazing place to shop for truly authentic Italian food. Everything here is fresh, you can actually see the pasta being cut right in front of you as you look through the amazing selection of hand made pasta, imported oils and vinegars, and those really nice environmentally friendly tote bags. I have been coming here for many years, my family has always frequented the store, and pasta is simply amazing when you can get it freshly made, not packaged and loaded with preservatives for shipment across the country. Why anyone would choose to not shop here is beyond me, but I just picked up 4 packs of gnocchi and I am very excited to cook up the basil pack with some spicy tomato and basil sauce and fresh pecorino-romano cheese grated on top, topped with a nice glass of cab.

The meat ravioli is the best. A box is about $12 and lasts in the freezer for a long time. Everything here is fresh. A family owned and run business for generations; I love that the grandmother still works there. They only take cash so be prepared with a wallet full of cash.

I have been coming to Borgatti's for 30 years now and there are no raviolis that compare to theirs. None! Thank God my mom never made her own raviolis or I would be in trouble for saying that.
When you have their large cheese raviolis (a box of 27 for $12.00; they are worth every penny), you will never forget them. Their raviolis should be in the dictionary under the word "Perfect". They are so light and fresh and melt in your mouth. There is simply nothing like them. I know that other Yelpers have discussed how to freeze them, but I have never been able to do anything with them except rush to get them home, boil a pot of water and eat them IMMEDIATELY!
They also have fresh lasagna they cut by hand and caviatelli, fresh pastas that are all delicious. It is very diifcult to go back to regular pasta after having Borgatti's.
Tell everyone to come here or to just keep coming here for another 70+ years. This is the type of mom and pop establishment that you have no problem paying them for their efforts and must remain for all generations to come and enjoy. -
Review from Sarah C.
There is a reason that every review here is 5 stars. This pasta is phenomenal. You must experience their ravioli. Right now, I am quietly weeping because I have just realized that it is Monday and I cannot buy their amazing ravioli or fresh egg noodles tonight. I cannot vouch for their flavored spaghetti (carrot, tomato, and squid ink, among others), nor for the rather expensive jarred sauces, but the egg noodles are only $2 a pound, and the ravioli are a steal too. The staff is friendly, an amusing mix old men and high schoolers... I live nearby and it was 4 and half years before I ventured inside, which I don't think I'll ever fully get over. I like to think of myself as a good cook, but anyone can make this pasta and feel pleased with themselves. With such a high quality product, you can't go wrong. Boil some water with some salt, and throw in your pasta. The ravioli will float to the top when cooked, and the noodles (which should be stirred so they don't stick together) take about five minutes. Drain, stir in a couple of pats of butter and sprinkle some romano cheese on top, and you are good to go. The only thing I would say is that if you don't plan on cooking all your ravioli right away, you should wrap it and freeze it, otherwise the edges can get hard. So make the trip up to Arthur Ave (it is overrun with visitors on weekends for good reason!), cook your pasta ASAP, and enjoy!
