They have some nice CD rate specials.
The customer service is very professional. I'm not accustomed to this as I have banked with the large BofA and Chase.
Small banks are definitely the ones to go for your brick and mortar banks.
This banks is located in a very nice neighborhood with free parking.
You are going to deal with some very professional bankers at this location. -

Definitely beats the other big depository banks (Chase, Wells Fargo, BofA, etc.)
I had a problem with changing the pin number on my debit card. Unlike other banks, where you would wait in line and be lucky if you get anyone useful to help you, Borel's customer service department immediately helped me out. While they weren't able to change the pin on the spot for security reasons, the were able to help me reset it another way. -

I am astonished with the classic professionalism, the competency with modern technology and methodology, and the amicable and freshly kind and happy attitude of the staff will keep me coming here for years, I believe.
Unlike any banking experience I have ever had... this is quite like the old time of banking. Humans...
It is almost weird dealing with a human. -

I have banked here for over 20 years. I am only giving them 2 stars instead of 1 because the customer service dept is wonderful. Polite and professional. The tellers are ok, most of the time, but the bank management is rude, condescending and entitled.
Beware if you are a small depositer, they really are set up to deal with folks that have lots of 00000000's in their accounts. Definitely, NOT for the middle class depositer. -

Borel Private Bank is the best bank -- personal and business. They are the easiest bank to work with as you deal with the bankers and personnel at the local branch. When you call during local bank hours, someone at that branch will pick up if the person you are calling does not. Other banks will allow your phone call go to voicemail, and typically takes 2 or 3 days before they call you back. But more impressively, this is the first bank that I know that allows you to communicate via email.
When you need something, they deliver. No hassles, no additional fees, etc.
I love the Los Altos branch...and will continue to bank with them even though I am located in Los Gatos. -

My grandfather setup his trust with Borel. Over a month ago they informed me that i was a beneficiary to a life insurance plan and that i should be receiving some documents shortly. Nothing was sent. A couple weeks ago we contacted them and they said they would send out the documents immediately. Nothing has been received and it is near impossible to contact them. When we were actually speaking to a representative at the bank they would not spend the few seconds it would take to check on the sum of the insurance policy. It has been a few months since my grandfather has passed and Borel bank hasn't even sent a copy of the trust (as required) to the beneficiaries!! pretty simple if you ask me but its like pulling teeth. Borel bank is receiving well into six figures annually as executors to the trust but you wouldn't guess it by the customer service.
Absolute piss poor service. -

Wondering why most of the bad reviews are filtered? This bank has amazing customer service as long as you don't have to speak to management. My best friend put all of his accounts there and he is very wealthy. I am not, just above average. We had a very different experience it is clear this bank is arrogant and elitist.

San Mateo, CA
This boutique bank is a gem and represents everything about San Mateo. It is little homey place where everyone is nice and treats you like and "individual" istead of a "client". The tellers know and recognize you and don't just ask how you are but listen to what you said you were doing over the weekend and then ask you about it. The ladies in this bank are helpful and cheerful. Seriously everyone here seems to be in the business of helping customers. We do busines and personal accounts with this bank and havn't thought of swithing.
