I'm kinda bummed that this place is going out of business.  I prefer this Borders over Barnes & Nobles.  Barnes & Nobles is usually over crowded with people from the mall.

So I went here again yesterday and everything is 50-70% off!!  The store is almost empty, but there is still a good amount of books to choose from.  Most of the fixtures are also on sale, so if you need bookshelves or what not, grab them before they disappear.  Since the closeout  sale started I've bought several books for leisure reading, cookbooks, and some nursing books.  I'm pretty stoked about the sale, but still sad that this store will no longer be a part of this community.

All the Borders that I go to both here in stockton and in san jose are closing....grrr!.  I have to find out which stores are actually staying open.

    Dear Borders,

You were always a fun place to hang at read magazines and occasionally buy book from especially with your weekly coupons for borders rewards. I came to visit you today because you are closing. Seen mainly !0%-20% off on things I know they will go on more of a sale yet also I know much of the stock of books will be gone by then. Never have I seen so many people at you Borders. You'll be missed, you were always well kept and had nice service.

    Bye bye Borders

So sad to report this Borders has closed... It was the closest book store to where I lived, and so convenient when I came into town on the weekends.

Now if I want to peruse books in-person, I have to go to Barnes & Noble in the mall... Not happy about that because of all the mall shoppers crowding the store, the lack of places to sit (they're always full), the non-free B&N Rewards program (I don't shop there enough to make it worthwhile). Plus, there's never anywhere to park, because mall shoppers will park out front and walk thru the bookstore to get into the mall.

So the place is going out of buisness and apparently the customer service has already vanished.

I had the pleasure of being 'helped' by Ms. Kerri yesterday. After her initial "I can help the next customer here" I did not hear another peep from this woman. No greeting, no "your total is________", no "have a shitty day" no eye contact, no nothing! This lady straight scanned my purchases, bagged them, took my money, and handed me my bag without a single word.

NOTE TO KERRI: Cheer up honey, there are plenty of other minimum wage paying jobs out there. They may require you to actually speak during the interview process though....or maybe not.

** Selection is little to none for children's chapter books and DVD's.
** Still an ok selection for reference books and LSAT study guides.
** They are also selling tables, chairs, book shelves etc....

MOST things are now at 30% off.
    ALL sales final.

Borders is way more calm than B&N.  I don't think they have as much selection and variety as B&N, which is a bummer.  They don't really have aisles, more like areas, in my opinion.  So the sections are spacious, so you don't bump into people constantly.  Out of curiosity, I was looking for their adult section, but could not find it.  Lame!  Btw, the rewards program is free! & you get weekly coupons via e-mail as well, super love those.
Despite the out the of way location, I chose to go to Borders instead of B&N pretty much because of the coupons.  I love bookstores in general, but love em way more when I don't have to pay full price!

Fan freaking tastic. I love B&N but how it is connected to the mall, B&N can get pretty loud with people cutting through there to get to the mall and I don't like that shizz.

Borders on the other hand, one relaxing atmosphere where you can find and read in peace or also study in the cafe with your laptop. Their clearance area is a goldmine and the book selection is top notch. There's also a rewards program for free and another program where you would have to pay $20 but get a heck of a lot more deals. The workers there are pretty cool and funny at that.

If you like Twilight and/or Sillybandz, they made their mark at Borders.

I have a confession to make.  No, I am not catholic... and that's not my confession.  Not that there is anything wrong with being catholic.  I am a kindle whore.  But I am a a slave to Borders.  Bubba, one of the Stockton Yelp peeps, swears by BN on Pacific, and that's okay.  But I prefer Borders.  For the low key ambiance and the service.  The  service at Borders is key.

My husband loves me because I am one of those no nonsense shoppers.  I walk in with a purpose.  Tonight, I had two books in mind.  Could not find them for the life of me.  I hate asking for help.  I summoned Tony.  He came to me without hesitation.  He looked both books up.  Special ordered one of them. I asked for his supervisor to compliment him.  (His supervisor was shaking in his boots, because I had this angry Asian glare in my eyes.)

By this time, I had four more books in my hands at the cashier.  Now I am kicking myself for not remembering the cashier's name.  He asked me if I wanted to donate books to Mary Graham Hall.
    http://www.co.san-joaq...

My eyes perked.  But I thought, 'am I going to have to deliver these books?'  'how much are these books?'
My immediate response was, 'YES... how much?'
HIM:  'prices range from 1.99 -5.99 and we deliver once the program ends'.

This person read my mind.  And the program is helping kids LOCALLY.  Buy real books at Borders, people and buy a book for kids in need.  PLEASE.  This is a really cool project!

I'm not gonna lie, when a friend of mine told me back in 2009 that Borders was gonna close in 2010, I was sad. It survived, but not for long. I'm sad that it had to close, because this place had always been my number one spot for studying when I'm just too damn lazy to go home and deal with the family drama. Can't a girl get some peace and quiet? I'm going to miss this place, really. The workers are friendly and still willing to help out if you need to look for a particular book. After this, I'll probably head out to the school library than going to Barnes and Noble for my studies. I still can't stand the limited seats, the annoyance of little kids running all over the place through the mall, and everything I can't remember at the top of my head.

    Au revoir, Borders.

Books are books.  Both Borders and B&N do an ok job at that.
B&N keeps their shelves neater.  The booksellers are constantly
restocking books.  It would be great if everyone would put the books
back where they got them but that doesn't happen.

I appreciate that it is a bit quieter here that at B&N...the music is not blaring as loud and a bookseller announcing what song is playing every fifteen minutes and that it is available in the music section for the very special price of $15.99!

A couple of things that I have an issue with here is their wifi and chairs.  The whole time I was there I could not stay connected to their wifi. I also could not get a usable signal with ATT.  This might not be Borders problem but it still sucks.  Somebody should fix it.  I did not have either problem at B&N.  And yes, I restarted my phone a couple of times.  I don't like the upholstered chairs here.  They are covered in a Naugahyde instead of more comfortable material like B&N.

Overall I like B&N a bit better.  It is sad that Boarders is having major
economic issues and is struggling to stay afloat.  I would hate to see
    this store be vacant.

Note to management:  Please fix your wifi.

I enjoy studying here more than the library. There's a good amount of ambient noise. And a good amount of distractions.AND there's coffee to keep me up & at it!

I thoroughly enjoy people watching during my study breaks. It sounds sorta creepy, but there's always interesting people around.

I also find lots of fun things during my study breaks, including new books to read, funky cat highlighters, childhood books I used to love.

Damn Borders...you're only open til 9pm??? Since when?

I found this out last nite as I drove over to do some bills and get out of the house.  9pm is way too early to close in my opinion.  Is this a cost saving measure?  I mean what about the customers, mAN!

I mean sure, you're probably tired of study groups (mostly asian) staying for hours and bringing their own meals and not buying anything, and just using the toilet. But still.. 9pm?

And sure, everyone sort of just dog ears your magazines and never really purchase them and for good measure, leave them strewn all over the place. But still...9pm?

ANd ok, I'll admit to the fact that....I'm guilty of browsing at books there and then buying it elsewhere like AMAZON right off my iphone...is the solution to this to close at 9pm?

Hey sure, Borders can do whatever you want...save money. Whatever.

I coulda bought something last night (probably not) BUT THe point is i COULDA...now  we'll never know!  I hope you're happy.

This is my favorite bookstore!! Way better than Barnes & Noble on Pacific. You don't have to worry about parking a mile away or getting your purse snatched in the parking lot.

I signed up for their free rewards card and get 20% coupons on a regular basis. They have a great selection of books and everything is easy to find. The store is clean and usually not very crowded.

I might be a bit biased, because as a college student this is my study spot and has become a sort of second home to me.

It's a Borders. In terms of merchandise and selection, they're all the same to me.  What is different is the service. Their service is key here, and it is beyond impressive.

Usually as soon as I walk in someone at the register will greet me with a "Hello!" and a smile.  The few times I wasn't able to locate a book on my own, someone was able to quickly help me locate it, or if it was not in the store, offer to help me place an order and have it shipped free of charge.  The baristas are friendly and pay attention, even learning my name and email from all the times I frequented the place.

I'm usually in the cafe area with my nose buried in a book or my laptop.  They have free wireless.  Yes, I do tend to camp out for hours, but I make sure I purchase something from the cafe each time, which is sadly more than a lot of other "squatters" can say.  It's not too crowded, which is why I prefer Borders over Barnes and Nobles on Pacific.  Still, during midterm/finals season, it does get a bit saturated.  Sometimes they'll offer free samples of drinks or pastries, which I learned is a rather devious trick because I've gotten addicted to many of their pastries in this way.

Try the cream cheese herb pretzel. Or no, actually don't. On the days I come and they are sold out I get rather depressed.

Land of the lost laptop users.  They find an outlet, magically become hermetically sealed to the chair and in a number of hours, the store manager must call the EMTs as their asses seriously atrophy.

I'm ready to spend greenbacks Mr. Borders.  The other day my internet service was down, I came to Borders to study, buy a munchie, java and possibly a book but noooooooooooooooooo.  The interloping groups of students, like a sea of cockroaches have taken up residence in the café with everything short of a pillow and a sleeping bag.  Make these little leeches buy something or ask them to move their slovenly butts for customers who will.

Mr. Borders, I spent my money elsewhere as Mr. Panera gave me internet service and no little leeches.

    A Bronx cheer to you.

It always smells so good in here, must be the cafe! I have yet to try something from the coffee shop but it's on my to-do list. There's usually enough seating to take a break and peruse a magazine or two and I like that the store is not super crowded. They have a nice assortment of mangas as well as little knickknacks (usually on clearance). A major plus is that I get a discount from my workplace, so I try to come here for all my paper needs!!

Back when I was actually a caring student who worried about her grades, I used to study here because most libraries and the Barnes and Noble are completely useless because those places feel like a mall more so than this place. It's always really clean, organized and quiet so you can focus and get your work done! I am a big fan of Borders as it is, and this is definitely one of my favourites, EVEN IF it's in Stockton.

Nationally, Borders have eliminated the CD/DVD section. While this isn't a big loss but my main gripe is that their hours have been scaled back bigtime! Instead of 9:AM-10:PM Sundays-Thursdays and 9:AM-11:PM Fridays And Saturdays, They are now opened 10:AM-9:PM, 7 days a week! Wahhhh? Very screwy! I will now do business with Barnes & Noble. BTW: All these changes occured in June of this year!

Although I favor libraries any day over bookstores, Borders is a good place to peruse the titles before I head over to the library. Its clean, well lighted with plenty of parking. The best part is the Seattle's Best coffee. Now this stuff can really keep you up during those wee hours of perfect weather (in the summer) when the sun goes down.

This borders is always clean and well-stocked with friendly employees to help you. There's usually always a comfy chair available to read. Lately, I haven't seen their CD/DVD collection - maybe they took it out for good? But their books are easy to find and it's in a great location.

My whole family loves coming here. We love the location there's always ample parking, and it's hardly ever crowded. The staff is friendly and helpful. And 99% of the time I always find the book(s) I'm looking for. It's nice and clean and very spacious. But best of all you can get a free Borders club card, with some awesome perks to go along! Last week I got a five dollar off coupon that just showed up at check out, and it was a pleasant surprise. I used it right away.  We also receive weekly coupons in our email for a pretty decent discount on any one item in the store, and it automatically goes to the most expensive item you buy. This is an awesome program that frequent should take advantage of. I really love this place, far better than that other bookstore in Stockton.

I think it's funny that everyone likes Borders better because it's "calm" or has less traffic. That's why it's going out of business! There was never a lot of people buying anything! I admit, a less crowded store was always nice to go to on occasion, but Borders has never had the selection of books that Barnes & Noble has. The only reason I've shopped there lately is because everything is on clearance.
