I'm writing this as a farewell letter to Borders.

For three to four years, Borders has been the first place my friends and I go to for studying. The cafe was always clean, quiet, and organized. Nobody bothered us or made us feel guilty when we didn't buy anything from the cafe. Can't say the same for The Coffee Bean across the parking lot.

I have so many memories tied to this place, from cramming for tests, tutoring people, and flirting with boys. Sure, the boys turned out to be jerks, but I can't blame Borders for that.

Yes, the items are marked up like crazy, which is why it came as no surprise that it's closing. But without Borders, how could I know which books to order from Amazon? It's so sad to walk in there now and see liquidation sale posters hanging from the ceiling. It's also sad to see Borders only offering 20-40% discounts as if it's a Christmas/after-Thanksgiving sale. (Raise the discounts to, like, 70%, please?) Saddest of all is the fact that for four years, the paper towel dispenser at the ladies' bathroom has never been fixed. And now it will never be fixed.

Good bye, Borders. It's been fun.

Give this store a lollipop, it's so sad...

Since I do most of my book and music shopping online, I rarely shop here, unless it's for a last minute gift, or something I need in my hot little hand that same day.

... so I was in here a few months ago just before Xmas 2009 and was amazed at how empty and disorganized the shelves were. I did note a couple employees moving inventory around, so the store looked like it was in the process of changing some areas around.
Regardless, there was hardly anyone on staff, other than a couple cashiers and one clerk on the floor that I saw.

So flash forward to today and it was more of the same. I wandered down most aisles just browsing, seeing that the shelves were hardly stocked with nothing but recent releases and smatterings of older titles. The music & dvd section was buried in the back, and I swear I saw cobwebs forming on the selections... I had to ask a clerk for a new c.d.
(yes I still buy albums!) that was supposed to come out today. Here it was in the afternoon, and she had to check the stockroom to see if it was even in. Luckily she found it in the back, but I guess they take their sweet time getting the new merch out onto the floor.

Their magazine section was fairly disheveled and variety was not the spice of life there. You're better off going to the grocery or local drug store to find more current selections.

I still saw employees in the process of moving inventory  around.
It didn't look like they were stocking the shelves any. Some of sections from December still didn't have the proper signs placed to tell you what section you were supposed to be in.

Otherwise, the place was pretty dead. There were a few other browsers, and the cashier that rung me up was bored enough to try and soft-sell me some candy fom the front counter.

One other annoying thing... they have their coffee bar in the back, which is fine, but every half-hour or so, a barrista comes over the p.a. system to loudly badger customers to please come and patronize their fine caffiene products.
I guess their lonely too, residing in the rear end of the store.

Obviously if they don't carry what you're looking for, they can special order it. But isn't that the same as if you bought the stuff online from Amazon, or other internet store?

Anyhoo, I at least found what I was looking for there. But I'm sure I could have found it much faster and easier, had I gone to Target or Best Buy. The staff was friendly and helpful though, just not enough of them around to properly keep a store of that size humming along as it should be.

I doubt I'll be coming back here any time soon this year.

I like Borders overall, but this location just makes me sad.  It seems to be chronically understaffed and is patrolled by a guy in a headset who looks like he is on the verge of a breakdown.  Don't get me wrong, the people who work here are very nice, and they try to be helpful.  It's just hard to help when you're getting pulled in about 50 different directions.

Also, while their book selection is great, Diana C. is way off about the magazine selection here.  My girlfriend has to routinely seek other stores to get the magazines she is looking for.  I personally have not seen more than a two week old Economist since I started shopping here, which is frustrating since it's a WEEKLY magazine.

Know what you want, and where it is in the store, and you'll save about a half hour.  Better yet, call in advance and have them leave it behind the register.  Go for books and not magazines and you'll save yourself a huge headache.

Normally i like hanging out at book stores reading books or studying up on my favorite subjects.

Borders has the same selection as other bookstores of its size.  but its bathroom is just TERRIBLE.  MY WORD!  I use to study from here and every time the place looks like it has never been cleaned nor stocked.

I've stopped going there for this reason.

I really like this book store. Alot more than barnes and nobles. (not saying theyre bad. Just more pricey in my opinion) I like their variety of manga.
