I WOULD DONATE
I'll try to avoid social commentary about the decline of the American bookstore. No promises though.
For a business that specializes in selling just books, Borders does a much better job at providing an inviting environment than anything else. Couches, coffee, wifi, this place sometimes feels more like your own personal lounge where you can grab something off the shelf and spend the afternoon.
Here in the evening? You may be able to still treat this place into a lounge, but it definitely goes from a relaxing to a social atmosphere as more people come in and/or live music is played either in the form of the piano soloist or the small blues garage band.
And if you're like me and can't get a spot in the library during finals week, Borders can be a decent alternative to the coffee shop as this place provides free unlimited wifi. Here you can grab a chair in the cafe area and sprawl all your notes on the (smallish) tables and study. For you laptop users, there are power outlets along the cafe wall, usually about 4 available slots. The place may noisy but there is enough chatter that will either distract you or act as white noise. It all depends on the kind of studier you are.
As for the meaning behind my title, other than the coffee, I can not possibly financially support Borders by buying books as often as they need. News that this company is losing more and more money each year saddens me because I really do not know where I can go for public lounging if it does close down. -

I have to temper my frustrations and realize there are 2 equal truths... Truth one, ambiance, comfort and vibe for sitting and reading a book 4/5 stars. Truth two, actually finding the book you want in stock at a fair price 2/5. Net rating 3 Stars.
I used to think that going to Borders or Barnes and Nobles meant awesome stock offerings and added value compared to the mom and pop book stores of yesteryear's. But with the advent and glory of Starbucks, Peet's and Amazon, I really question why one goes here.
I was given a recommendation for the book "Human Sigma" and looked it up on-line. Seeing that I could get it "new" from Amazon for 75% of retail, I decided to stop by this borders on my way home from work.
I wont bore you by my frustrations, let me simply say the management section at this location was not kept in any order. I made an error in searching before checking on the in house computer to only find that this book was not in stock.
Lame, but OK, you can't keep every book in stock I know, but next time I will skip the whole mess and simply order on-line through Amazon. -

I'm a book fiend and love to read. i also like to get books as gifts. I have to admit though, Borders is more of a browsing place for me. It's a great place to get work done or meet with friends (I'm a Seattle's Best coffee fan). Free wifi. I, ummm, just rarely buy books here. They're more expensive than buying them online. I'll grab a pile and do some research, browse the shelves to see what publishers are funding or sift through a few magazines. Is that uncool?
I still love Border's though but i guess i treat it as more of an awesome coffee shop with a gigantic bookshelf and magazine rack. -

I went here the other day, because I had a 50% off coupon. That is really the only reason I ever walk into the store. Online is much cheaper, and I don't have the hassle of searching for the book I want. I have to give it a good rating, because as bookstores go, it's a very nice one. The employees are friendly enough and they have nice seating and a great kids section.

Border's has got it figured out. They send you coupons in your email to draw you into their store and they give you points for everything you buy. Last week, I went in to a buy a CD for a Xmas present. I brought in my 30% any item coupon, I used my $5.00 in Border's Bucks I had accumulated and the item I wanted was on sale.....Wow...they almost paid me to buy the CD...not really, but you get the point. These guys want your business and they are really to work for it. Definitely worth a visit for a book or CD.

They always have what I'm looking for however the chairs and couches are always taken. I really would like the opportunity to sit down and give the book or magazine a once over before I purchase it. And what's up with the rewards???? I've been buying books for 8 years here and haven't gotten crap for free!! Or discounted!!

Borders books is a great place to find a book but only if you have a coupon otherwise you are better off buying from Amazon. Actually you are better off with Amazon even with the coupons that Borders sends through email.
So why come here? To grab a table or seat and read a magazine or do some homework. The place fills up during the afternoons but its not too bad on weekdays. I wouldnt recommend coming here if you wanted some coffee though. Their selection is limited and i have yet to enjoy something as simple as an iced coffee. Why? They dont have simple sugar syrup! And when you try to explain to the staff why you need it they look at you like you are from another planet.
For the best experience, get your coffee beverage elsewhere and then go to Borders.
