Review from Susan L.
I would have given four stars if it was just a question of the selection (it's not a huge store), but the staff were *terrific*; extremely helpful and very friendly. In particular, a manager named Jeff was one of the nicest people I've ever met!

Thank you Borders for having reliable internet when all I want and Need to do is get online to send emails for Work!
Thank you for taking time to set up chairs and tables for poor worker bees like me who have to run back and forth all day just to perform my job cuz Sprint decided to provide me with a useless aircard!
Thank you for having great coffee and a warm space for me to work.
I love you Borders!!! -

It's your typical Borders, and above average for one. However, for their downtown locations they have in various cities, it closes earlier than some of their downtown stores in other cities, especially on Saturdays(6pm!) and Sundays(5pm!). And it closes 8pm on weekdays.
Personally, Downtown Books seriously overshadows this Borders location, so if you aren't in a mood to browse the latest magazine of something(the only reason I can imagine someone would go here instead), I'd personally recommend going east 2 blocks to there instead, and having a more unique Milwaukee trip! -

I struggle with myself on this one, because I'm a *huge* bookstore fan in general (and a Border's fan in particular), but, honestly... I have to exercise EXTREME self-control not to sneak out of my cubicle every day to spend more time reviewing books that, were I to buy them, would whisk me away from reality to a work-endangering degree.
My other knock on this place is that it's really smaller than the range of reading options I prefer, and stocked more with periodicals than what I'm interested in. It's also a gift-store tease, where you *think* you'll find that perfect little bit of something, because there are so many other little bits of something, but you come away empty-handed.
On the plus side, they do have a nice cafe (at least, since they renovated it this summer), and in the past month or two have had an art installation of 10,000 origami cranes hung outside their door (in the hallway in front of the bank and hotel on that side of the building) so it is definitely worth a browsing trip to see whether you can find whatever it is you're looking for. -

The bookstore is great, I love the large selection of magazines although it would be nice if they would discount them once in a while. The DVD section is pretty small and I'm OK with that-I would rather be reading than watching crap on TV.
Unfortunately, since I got my Kindle, I don't buy as many books as I used to, but when I really want one, this is the place. The last book I bought there was an autographed Sue Grafton right after it's release. The staff is really helpful and if they don't have what you want, they can look it up to see what they can do to get it for you.
The store is pretty small, but that gives it a little more charm. I like the travel book and map section. It's a great stop when I'm planning a vacation.
The cafe' is exceptional. The staff is the best, they are so friendly and the service is over the top. A morning walk for coffee is always worthwhile. And the location, right on the Riverwalk is incredible. It's a great place to sit, have a latte and enjoy a good read. -
Review from Laura F.
As far as big bookstores go, Borders is my choice. I suppose there is little difference between them and say, Barnes & Noble, for the average buyer of novels and political, social and cultural nonficton like me, but something about the atmosphere inside, the staff and the feel that you aren't in a huge cavernous bookstore wins the race for me. Besides, their cafe is much better, especially their tea selection. The fact that they have recently started a rewards program basically signals the end of my trips to Barnes & Noble. I especially like this downtown location because of its patio on the Milwaukee River and its location near Grand Avenue, which, despite what some people say, to me signal downtown rejuvenation.

My 80th review. I've spent hours here reading; this is one of my favorite places to go anytime I' m downtown. They have a huge african american fiction and non fiction section. I love the fact that its next door to my other favorite store Tj Maxx. and the patio is next to the Milwaukee River.
