Review from Patty T.
Calabasas, CA
After reading the reviews i knew that i had to visit this spot...I'm glad i did as the food was very good. We ordered 2 western burgers, an angus burger, fries, onion rings and side salads. The waitress was great as my daughter and I shared our meal and she split the salad for us on two separate plates...it's the little things that i appreciate.
I also had a margarita which i was told is one of the best ones in Lake Arrowhead...i'd have to agree as it was tasty and strong, exactly what i needed.
With all all the food, drinks for 4 (including the margarita), the bill was $40...well worth it!!! -
Review from Lane L.
Lake Arrowhead, CA
Well the Sunday Brunch is gone although it was nothing to write home about.
The Owner is quite friendly and the service is ok but the Food is substandard.
It has become more or less a Local's Bar to hang out in.
The dinning area is quite small.
To access it you either have to go through the Bar and pass through the cloud of smoke on the deck or walk around the side of the building and up a slippery slope
when the weather is raining or snowing.
Small dinning room.
The food is neither Tejano or Norteno !
Just sort of substandard Mexican Fare.
Again Blue Jay is short drive away. -
Review from Paul M.
Stick to the bar, because they make drinks like I like my men: stiff and cheap.
Bartender and patrons were all super friendly.
The dining room on the other hand was mediocre food, mediocre service and what are they thinking about the HEAT?! It was like a sweat lodge at a convelescent hospital up there. And when we tried to open the door to let some blessed cool mountain air in, the server threw a hissy fit.
Too bad the food wasn't as hot. Served a shade cooler than luke wam and of the Appleby's or Chili's quality. And so much for the theory that ordering Mexican food is safe so long as you see Mexicans cooking in the kitchen. The chile relleno burrito looked plump but it was pretty much all Uncle Ben's style rice surrounding a tiny, dessicated chile.
Thank God for $6 Knob Creek bourbon in a tall glass. For that kinda price, you can serve me shoe leather and I'll still give you three stars! -

Just like Karl S. said in his review, it's a 50/50 shot at places like this. We ate here twice when we stayed up here. Had dinner the first time in a party of 8. The service was pretty fast and the food was okay but wasn't bad.
The 2nd time we ate here was on the way down the mountain. There were two waitresses working and plenty of tables available but they made us wait 15 minutes for the next shift of waitresses to come in. They sat us at a table that was empty the entire time we waited...go figure. Both were pretty rude and seemed upset they had to work that day...not sure what their problem was but the same waitress from our first visit helped us and was great. The food came out quickly and she was pretty attentive. The other two killed it for this place w/ their terrible attitude.
Other than the two rude waitresses on the 2nd visit this place was not bad for not knowing what to expect. -
Review from Ken M.
I tried this place again and its still "Borderline" but the service was better. The food is always ok here...I have no issue with that. The owner needs to make sure that the customer experience is always consistent and acceptable...there are only so many people in this area that eat out and its the locals that will make or break a restaurant up here. I will try this place again because I like the food and I try to support the local business up here. I always get the carne asada plate w/two ground beefe enchiladas. Its always a good meal.

Review from J B.
Long Beach, CA
My mother told me this place was great so we went and got run out by a crazy coked out lady! There was only one waitress and she yelled at a table who asked for their check and when they walked up to the register she yelled "I"ve got the sheriff's number on speed dial!" When we got there someone was waiting for their to go order, so finally we seated ourselves and she was furiously struggling to wrap up styrofoam boxes for a good ten minutes She smelled of booze and kept sniffing her nose. I heard her yelling at the kitchen staff and asking her friend to ring up someone's check. She took our order, then came back fifteen minutes later without our drink orders and told us she forgot our order. We left. I will give it a try some other time during another shift.

If you are looking for a place with good food and great atmosphere then this is the place. Great Sunday morning brunch style food. Champagne and great choices of either steak and eggs, chicken fried steak, machaca, omelets, you name it. Stop in and say hi to Ricky and the crew.

This Place Rocks!!!!! Great Food!!! Full Bar!!! Good Service!! Ricky the owner is always there to insure your dining experience is good, the bar is covered with flat panel TVs for sporting events and the dance floor gets hopping in the evenings. The building itself is the oldest structure in the mountains dating back to the 1880"s it was the local watering hole, dining house, post office and bordello! Stop in for great Mexican food in a fun setting.

"Over the mountain and through the woods..." to a nice HUGE CABIN (4 BR and 3 BATH - 2 Stories) in Lake Arrowhead for a weekend for my birthday! Yup, I didn't know I was that loved...but a close great best friend of mines (Cindy) pulled some strings and got this for me on my bday!
And WOW was I surprised to see how beautiful it was! (The cabin that is) Anyhow, straying from the point of Borderline Family Restaurant (yes, they called it a family restaurant) and I guess you could call it that.
Anyhow while traveling and getting lost here and there within Blue Jay and Lake Arrowhead we came across this quaint little spot! Reminds me of a place between Denny's and Alberto's - you get me? LOL!
So yeah, there we are hungry and cold looking for some brunch and we come across this spot. Hastily rushing inside you find the place to be real homely! Your greeted by a young kid, maybe around 13-14, who seats you and takes your drink order. Then your given a nice bountinful basket of chips and salsa (which btw is really good and FRESH!) The menu you ask? Well you can find anything from good ol americana favorites like omelettes, pancakes, hamburgers, tuna sandwiches, etc. to the delicious plates of mexican food - burritos, chile relano's etc! The service is nice and you can be as loud as you want! LOL! As for the restrooms - I really can't say because I haven't been into it but the decor seems real simple and it is a family run business! Thanks to Borderline for making our "brunch" hunt short because we were real hungry after hunting for brunch which turned into lunch! LOL! Kudos to the chef! All the food ordered looked delicious and my Turkey sandwich and fries were up to Denny's quality! Give it a try if your going to Big Bear or Lake Arrowhead! -

Food was decent but it took an inordinate amount of time for the food to be served. Very friendly staff
