Kyle, TX
When we moved to Kyle, we weren't really sure what we'd find in terms of local (non-chain) restaurants. We've been pleasantly surprised, and one of the best gems, tucked away in downtown Kyle, is Bordeaux's.
Whether you're going for happy hour, dinner, or brunch, Bordeaux's won't disappoint. Their wine selection is great, and reasonably priced. I've enjoyed everything I've ordered off of their menu - but by FAR my favorite thing is the mussels. I could eat that every day for the rest of my life and be happy. My husband and I literally drink the remaining broth with spoons (or if we're feeling particularly gluttonous, we ask for more bread to soak it up)!
It's not cheap - but it's worth it, especially for special occasions. -

We met friends at Bordeaux's last night; a third or fourth time there for us. We really enjoy the atmosphere and the food is very good. There are advertised discounts on their website which was not the reason we went, but, hey, if they're offered, why not take advantage of them? Our server was not familiar with them so, supposedly, verified a few of them before we ordered. Then when the check came, there were a few discrepancies between we had been told (and what is published on the web). We placed all orders before the 6:30pm cut off time, by the way. We got most of the errors cleared up but it's embarrassing to have to squabble over such things, especially when trying to enjoy a pleasant evening with friends.
The other thing that was disappointing, was once we had paid our tab, we continued to visit at our table for 30-45 minutes. (The place was empty except for one other table, so it's not like we were keeping others from being seated). Our waitress was hanging out in the bar with the rest of the wait/kitchen staff and never came back to see if we wanted more water, coffee or anything. TIP: Don't pay your tab til you're ready to leave!
We will definitely go back for the food and atmosphere. Just a few good lessons learned and wanted to pass them on. -

Kyle, TX
I decided to take my husband to Bordeaux for his birthday since it seemed like a nice, small, restaurant.
We started with a few cocktails which were very tasty.
Then, we ordered the scargot and freshly made mousse which had black truffles in it!
The scargot was really good although it was a little too buttery for me. It had garlic, herbs, and butter.
The mousse was nice and creamy.
For entrees, my husband got the tenderloin and I got the twin lobsters. For sides, we decided on shrimp scampi and risotto.
The tenderloin was cooked to perfection; very tender and juicy. Also, it was seasoned very delicately so you could really taste the tenderloin natural flavor.
The twin lobsters were succulent! They were cooked with white wine and herbs. Nice, tender, and very satisfaying.
The shrimp scampi was good. The shrimp were huge and tasty...My husband's favorite.
The risotto...my favorite. It was cooked perfectly with a mixture of cheeses. Hmmm, so creamy! Very comforting.
For dessert we got a complimentary creme brûlée for the occasion. My husband and I loved it. Very creamy, the sugar top was perfectly browned, and it came with mixed berries which were fresh and sweet. It was very light and flavorful.
The waiters were very friendly and the chef came to our table to congratulate my husband. The chef was really nice and loved talking to my husband about food in general.
Great romantic place, awesome food, and nice service. -

Is Rebecca D kidding? You bring two little kids to the only nice restaurant in town and then get offended when they ask you to leave because your kids are disruptive? Seriously people, with little kids - how about thinking of other people every now and then? Can you say "babysitter?"
We have eaten here twice and plan to return. The food is very good and it's a lovely atmosphere. There aren't a lot of places in the area that are like that so thanks to the owners for what they did.
This is a DATE place folks-candlelight, wine expensive food get it? It's not Chuck E Cheese. I applaud the owners for having the gumption to take action. It rarely happens and many a meal is ruined by crying babies who are too young to go to places like this. -

A "Diamond in the Rough." Food and service have always been great. Love that we don't have to drive far to enjoy fine dining for our
special occasions. Great patio when weather permits. I've even stopped in to pick up dessert here after a long hard day at work. -

Because my husband and I went to a free reading at the Katherine Ann Porter house we decided to balance out the thus-free date night with a not-cheap trip to Bordeaux's afterwards. It was worth it. They have an excellent selection of wines, a solid menu, and really good service. I've been here a couple of times, and I have to say, I've had more luck with the start and finish of my meal. The mussels in fennel broth are a delicious beginning (even for my mussels-skeptical husband) and I love the carrot cake (I am not a carrot cake purist, however). The entrees can sometimes be bland, but they are always decent.
Word of warning: This is the only fancy restaurant in town, so it's best avoided on big nights... graduations, etc.... when the wait can get super long. -

Austin, TX
It's a fancy restaurant in a small town where most of the other restaurants are either a shack or drive-through. In comparison, it shines above the others, which explains why the ratings are so high. If this were in Austin, it would be 3 stars, tops. It's pretentious without having any right to be that proud of itself. We could have driven 15 minutes for truly excellent food at lower prices somewhere in Austin.
The waitress was nice and attentive, but not able to answer basic questions about the menu or the bar offerings without going off to find out the answer. The food is ok, but nothing special. It's trying to be, but it falls short of being interesting, let alone excellent. The menu is overly ambitious. No balance, buzzword dishes, variations on classics that are anything but an improvement. The offerings and sides aren't cohesive and frequently not complimentary. But the pricing? It's the same as if there were special sides and sauces designed to go with the entree.
If the sides were outstanding on their own but not quite matched up to the entrees, it would be understandable. You want to put out great food. But they were poor to mediocre. Tough but not crusty French bread. A caesar salad with flavorless dressing and boxed croutons. Mashed potatoes that were lukewarm, watery-tasting, bland, and had a strange gritty texture I've never found in homemade potatoes (even if you put the butter in before the milk, making them less smooth). The entrees were equally blah, but we were hungry. If the sauce on the tuna had been a little sweeter to balance the bitterness, it would have been good.
We'll probably wind up back here at some point since it's the only nice restaurant in town, but it won't have been my choice. -
Review from Ardie S.
Most folks would never think of driving to Kyle for fine dining. But this restaurant complements the rebirth of Center Street and befits the "New Kyle" downtown area. It's right at home, right where it is.
The dining area is relatively unpretentious and somewhat airy. There are both booths and tables. There is a small bar, but it's mostly a service bar for dinner patrons. The kitchen is out in the open, so you can see that there are no surprises, and the chef cooks with the flourish that tells you he knows he's putting on a show and he's proud of his works.
The entrees and sides have that gourmet touch, and you can get some what exotic dishes here. The wait staff is very professional and provides just the right amount of attention without being overbearing.
They have an extensive wine list and offer frequent specials on bottles of wine. I've enjoyed some great wines I would never have tried had they not been suggested to me by Bordeaux.
With a decent bottle of wine and dessert, expect dinner to run from $80 to $120 per couple. That might not be dinner on a budget, but as another reviewer has pointed out, you won't find this gem anywhere else. -

I was a bit apprehensive when I was invited to a friends Birthday Dinner at an upscale place in Kyle, Texas - granted Kyle has some nice old timey diners - but "wear something sexy or formal" on the evite had me thinking WTF????
I fallowed the instructions and wore my little black dress with a V down to my belly button and backless and did not feel out of place...
We started with a couple appetizers. My favorite was the Mushrooms stuffed with spinach, Pancetta, Prosciutto and cheese!
I had the Sesame Ahi Tuna grilled rare and topped with shrimp and sesame ginger glaze with garlic Parmesan mashed potatoes. My friends Father footed the bill; but, as I recall it was around 30.00.
I also had a yummy Pomegranate Blueberry Martini that was questionable as to whether it was a cocktail or dessert?? Until we got delicious coffee laced with Rum and Whipped Cream!!!!Listed in: Short Road Trips from Austin

Kyle, TX
By far the nicest place to dine in or near Kyle, TX.
My wife and I went here and had a great meal, the staff let us take our time and we sampled appetizers, wine, and had an *outstanding* surf and turf. Best lobster I've had in my life, it was cooked perfectly.
One of the highlights of the meal was the Butternut Squash Soup. It is seasoned just enough with Cayenne to make it very interesting.
Make sure to call ahead for seating on the weekend.Listed in: My Neighborhood

I visited Bordeaux's last night for the second time and everything ranging from the food, service, and ambiance was spot on. Here is a brief overview of the meal: tender and garlicky escargots, warm French bread, juicy steaks, crisp green beans, decadent carrot cake, and smooth coffee. Sam, our server, was friendly and very attentive but not intruding.
Bottom line: Bordeaux's was just as excellent as the first time. Being consistent is key!Listed in: Most Indulgent Desserts Around…

Not what you would expect in small town Kyle.
However, this upscale steak and seafood restaurant in the renovated downtown area is both classy and quite delicious. The steamed mussells are quite spectacular.
Also, where else in the area can you find creamy fresh butternut squash soup.
Thank you Bordeaux's for bringing such fine dining to our little country town. The full bar is also a nice place for an after work drink. -

No dice.
I came in 10 minutes till closing with my best friend on a Saturday evening. We explained we didn't want the kitchen or even a table, just a glass of wine to sip at the bar because it was my birthday and my friend had driven a long way to see me.
We were practically shoved out the door.
Really???
That actually was the second time I'd been there, but it killed my desire to ever return. The first time, I ended up with the runs after eating the acorn or butternut squash soup. And here I was, willing to give them another try. Please don't give your money to the rude owners- they don't care about your evening. -

If i could afford it I would eat at Bordeaux's at least once a week !
I've had two romantic dinners there with fabulous steak and red wine; a girls night out dinner and drinks twice as well.
I've had the same waiter each time and he's been perfect.
The steak is always tender and the mashed potatoes sooo tasty. I don't usually like lobster, however, it was a special one night and i ordered it. It was really yummy !
You should ALWAYS make a reservation, even if it's early (like happy hour). -

Small town fancy restaurant. This place is perfectly romantic! Right in downtown Kyle, is has a pretty low-key atmosphere and a beautiful back patio seating area. We have gone on dates here, as well as realized at 10pm we need to eat dinner and showed up in jeans and t shirts. The food is fantastic.

This is the gem of Kyle. Owned and managed by a professional chef, Bordeaux beats any restaurant in Dallas or Houston - or even New York or London.
The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is delicious. The valentines special each year is wonderful for married couples who want a nice night out.
The food is so well prepared, you will leave feeling that you got your money's worth. -

Went here for a belated birthday dinner with the BF and we had an amazing meal. We walked in and we felt a little overdressed as I was wearing my LBD and the BF was wearing slacks and a jacket. We were easily the dressiest people there. I had read that other Yelpers had worn similar attire and fit right in. We were probably there too early for fancier clothes as everyone else in the dining area was pretty casual. Nevertheless, we were seated promptly and our waitress, Ashley, made us feel right at home.
The interior of the place is pretty nice, dimly lit without being overly dark with intimate booths lining the walls and more open tables out on the floor and a bar in the back. We were seated at a booth and ordered a bottle of wine and escargot to start off with. The wine was a petit sirah from California and one of their recommended selections, and it was very good. The escargot is billed as "the best in Texas" on their menu, and I don't think they're lying. It was fantastic. Tons of garlic and butter, but they managed not to overwhelm the earthy sweet flavor of the meat. It was served with some sliced bread, but when we were done with the escargot and the bread, Ashley came back and asked if we wanted more bread to sop up the rest of the butter. Uhm, HELL YES we want extra bread to sop up the rest of the butter. She brought us an entire small loaf of more bread, so fresh and hot that we couldn't eat it at first. It was amazing.
We both got their butternut squash soup for our side with our entrees and it was delicious: savory, creamy, smooth, and a little spicy. They sprinkle some cayenne pepper on top as a garnish and it perfectly complimented the butternut squash. It was some of the best butternut squash soup I think I've had.
For entrees, I got the quail medallions in a pinot noir sauce and the BF got the salmon Bearnaise. My quail was delicious, expertly grilled and tender, and the asparagus that it came with was equally amazing because they gave me entire stalks that were tender from tip to end. Usually asparagus gets woody towards the base, but every bit of the asparagus I had was tender and delicious. The BF's food was creamy, rich, and amazing. We both cleaned our plates and used some of our leftover loaf of bread to sop up the sauce.
Finally, for dessert I ordered the carrot cake on a tip from fellow Yelper, Ingrid M., and the BF ordered the creme brulee du jour, which was made with Bailey's that day. Ingrid M. did not lead me astray with the carrot cake tip. OMG, it was absolutely decadent. Carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, drizzled in a cinnamon-rum creme angaise, topped with a dollop of whipped creme and garnished with candied carrot slivers. I am embarrassed to admit that I ate all but three bites of that cake, took those three bites home in a box, and ate them later that night. It was SO GOOD. The BF's creme brulee was expertly done. Creamy, sweet, crunchy top with no burned or underdone areas, and garnished with three perfectly ripe blueberries. Delicious!
For all the amazing food, we paid less than we would have for food of similar quality elsewhere, even with a generous tip for our amazing server. We will definitely be coming back here for the next special occasion that warrants a meal of this caliber. -

This is by far my favorite place to spend money on food! It's more than that though, it is a dining experience! There is nothing that doesn't make your mouth water at Bordeauxs! My favorites are the es cargot and the butternut squash soup and the creme brûlée is amazing! I like that the owner and chef chats up the guests whenever he can! You won't regret visiting this fantastic restaurant!

So, we say move over Sullivans, Eddie V's, Gumbo's and Trulucks! Might seem unlikely, but Bordeaux's beats them all hands down! (in our honest opinion) I've had the pleasure of dining at all these fine restaurants and after going to Bordeaux's twice, my husband and I have been so impressed! A friend of ours told us about it, but we were still skeptical...until we tried it! As others below have commented, the food is amazing! We had the Filet Oscar and Filet & Parmesan Crusted Shrimp...both absolutely delicious!! We order our filets medium and they absolutely melt in your mouth here. They are seared on the outside and cooked perfectly, with an excellent flavor! And, the parmesan crusted shrimp is the best shrimp we've ever had! We get a salad and the butternut squash soup as well....it's hands down the best I've tasted anywhere. Aside from the delicious food (that's worth every penny and that tops any other place we've been to so far) is the excellent service!
Both times we've been, the service has been great! Hostess, servers, bartender were all very attentive and friendly. As far as atmosphere, it's not too fancy, but still really nice! Either for a romantic evening or just a night out with friends, Bordeaux's is on our list. We've been telling people about this place ever since our first time there and continue to do so. We figured we'd Yelp it and spread the word even more. It will definitely be the place we take our friends and family out for a nice dinner from now on. You won't be disappointed!! -

I rarely give anyplace a 5 star rating. This is the biggest surprise you'll ever go to. It's pricey, it's classy but unpretentious, the food is exceptional and it's a true treat to have a place of this quality outside of the Austin area. They have a great happy hour as well. The steaks are awesome. Easily as good as Capital Grill for almost half the price.

Wow.
I just moved from NYC to Kyle (I know, I know) and I saw Bordeaux's on the Main Street. I was shocked and more than a little afraid.
Classic example of "don't judge a book by its cover", or in this case its town. I walked in and immediately thought I was back on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, stepping into a small home-owned place off Broadway. Atmosphere, food wine list sensational. The wasabi vinagrette for the salad is to die for. I also had the salmon bearnaise- beautiful! The app of the day was sauteed Quail legs Oh my, possibly the best appetizer I EVER HAD.
You simply must go for a nice dinner. It isn't cheap, but it is worth every penny!
BTW, someone wrote here that they had a bad time coming in 10 minutes before closing. Having worked in fine dining establishments all over the country, I can tell you that coming into a restuarant 10 minutes before closing is no way to enjoy a place. She should have gone home, opened a bottle of her own, and come back the next night. -

Went here the other night for a special, celebratory dinner. We ordered the appetizer special, the crab cake with fruit salsa - $12. It was obviously a frozen crab cake that was "dressed up" with the freshly prepared salsa. Not impressed. I ordered the filet mignon with a side of garlic parmesan mashed potatoes - $32. The steak was very tender but I ordered it medium and it came a little on the medium-rare side. However, what really shocked me is that the potatoes were obviously from an instant potato mix, again, dressed up with some shaved parmesan cheese on top. We felt that the quality of the food did not warrant these big ticket prices. My husband had the quail medalions which were small and fairly dry. We eat at fine dining establishments fairly frequently and are happy to pay $30+ for a dish, but to serve frozen crab cakes and instant mashed potatoes almost seemed like they were trying to pull a fast one on their patrons.
I will say that the service was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. Their wine list and menu of specialty cocktails was also nice.
Overall, just a disappointing experience. Had we paid prices that were more appropriately aligned with the quality of the food, my rating would have been much higher.Comment from Larsen W. of Bordeaux's 4/11/2011

Every time we visit we have a great time. My favorite dishes are the escargot and sweet potato fries. I never thought I would like snails, but they have the best!
I have had their seafood, steak, pasta, butternut squash soup, their creme brulee du jour... Everything has been fantastic. The only thing I'm not a big fan of is their Mexican martini- which is too olive-y for me. I love Trudy's for their Mexican martini's.
I have no complaints, this is my favorite place to eat. -
