Cajun Kate's is the jewel restaurant here. But this place has so much to offer. The food, produce, nuts, etc. are fantastic. I came here all the time when I lived in the area. I haven't found a place anywhere with the charm this place had. It will always hold a spot in my heart.

It's no secret that I love food. Seriously, I am a secret fat kid. I'm like Chunk from the Goonies in a 5'2 frame with nice boobs. (Hey, everyone deserves to compliment themselves once in awhile).

Anyway, back to the Farmers Market... this place is like Reading Terminal Market on crack. You want it, they got it. Homemade breads & pastries, pickles, butter, apple cider, milk, eggs... the list could go on and it's all Fresh (with a capital F). The Amish vendors have fresh produce and meat. I love that they are only open on Fridays & Saturdays, so you know the stuff hasn't been sitting there very long; it's all from the current week.

Downsides...it's a little crowded & difficult to maneuver. Just don't get stuck behind an old lady dressed like Jackie O & pushing a shopping cart. Because I did and it sucked. However she did give me the opportunity to slow down and look at things I might have missed. So bring it on, old lady. You might just make me spend even more money than I did this time. (I bought bacon, scrapple, eggs & strawberry butter... and I only spent $13!)

Next time, I am ALL OVER that peach melba bread. I love peach bread like a fat kid loves, well, peach bread.

This place deserves all five stars. Not all vendors were open, but we got a good taste of the best! EVERYTHING was amazing - giant pickles, stuffed sweet peppers, the cheese spreads, water ice (you must try the mango), red skin potato salad, Amish sausage sandwiches! The horseradish bacon smoked cheddar cheese and Havarti were tongue tingling delicious as were the nut butters made fresh before your eyes. I came upon an unmanned vendor that sold apple butter, marshmallow dip, and peanut butter. The marshmallow dip was to die for, alas - no one was there to sell me a container of the heavenly concoction.

I could seriously live here. The vendors were all very friendly, except for the Amish girl who let down the heavy metal pole right on my head to close the store. That hurt like a biatch. She was very apologetic though...

The indoor market is well maintained and clean and simple - how it should be. Price wise, you can get fruit elsewhere for less, but everything else was well worth it.

And just when I thought I saw the the entire market, a sign for LOWER LEVEL appears. I don't live here, but I heard they only open on weekends and certain holidays...which means I get to go on New Year's day again to finish exploring.

I go here for three things:  Amish cole slaw, cheap name-brand shoes, and pinball.

More of a flea market than a farmer's market; The Booths Corner Farmer's Market is significantly cleaner and far less inbred than the New Castle Farmer's Market.   I need to shower and disinfect after returning home from the New Castle Farmers Market; but after Booths Corner I merely feel the need to simply wash my hands (albeit thoroughly).

They have a zillion shops ranging from Amish produce and meats to a supremo-mega-discount store where you can buy a 6-pack of condoms and a flying skull-head Halloween decoration for like two bucks (a surefire combination to woo your Delaware girl).  They also have a pretty impressive shoe store with Doc Martens, Clarks, and some other brands you've actually heard of, but at Payless prices.

If you go waaaay in the back of the place, you'll find their arcade with an impressive assortment of (maybe 6 or 7?) pinball machines, which includes F-14 Tomcat, Demolition Man, and some others that I can't think of now because I am lame and forgetful.  Either way, they were in decent shape, and it made me proud of this little farmer's market.

Go there.  They've got plenty of parking, and plenty of cole slaw.

Stuff. They got stuff. Lots and lots of stuff.  Clothing stuff, house stuff, pretty decorative stuff... Oh, but the food stuff!!

This is much more than a farmer's market, more like a flea market but not necessarily resale items; many of the shops are new products. From a large discount shoe store to a barber shop, a classic arcade with classic games and a small country furniture store.

The food is amazing, from store after store and deli after deli full of homemade beautiful cakes made by the area's Amish and Caananites to fresh meats, many of them stating organic. A chicken breast from an organic Amish farm... COME ONE! That's about as natural and fresh as you can get, right?

My favorite of course is Cajun Kates, the area's best Cajun restaurant.

This is a great place to spend a Saturday afternoon or morning. Lots of fresh vegetables from the multiple farming kiosks and a wonderful Amish diner to have a wonderful lunch if you happen not to be in the mood for the aforementioned Cajun cuisine. LOVE IT!

The best chicken wings in the area are at Stoltzfus Poultry right across from the store where they make the fresh squeezed orange juice. The wings are ROASTED, not fired, and have a wonderful crunch and flavor.

Cajun Kate's also has great food. The mac and cheese is really good.

An agreeable, occasionally bizarre bazaar, Booth's Corner has been around for a number of decades, but I've only recently started exploring it's depths. I used to scurry in solely for the delectable offerings of Cajun Kate's, speedily savor my Nawlins comfort food, and them immediately scurry out, trying not to make eye contact with anything or anyone.

This is the wrong way to go, though. Do not be wary of the beaming ruddy women who look like extras from Big Love. Don't stamp your feet with impatience when you are stuck behind a lumbering mass of humanity (or a battalion of strollers) trying to navigate the corridors. This is all part of the experience that has become my treasured Saturday tradition.

Rather than try to form a decent informative paragraph, let me just list off the top of my head the various goods & services you can purchase here until my hands cramp: Raw goat's milk, spices galore, jewelry, cheese curds, knives & swords, homemade ice cream (pumpkin, YUM), used books, herbs, socks, vinyl records, a hair cut, discount shoes, all manners (and matters) of fruits and vegetables, "mystical gifts", name brand perfumes; flour, unbleached & bleached; second hand vacuums, dvds, VHS tapes sorted by actor/actress (heavy on the Tom Cruise, Jodie Foster and Adam Sandler selection) cupcakes, fresh fish, a pet dog, frumpy clothes, hewn furniture, more polished-looking furniture, "legal services"; you can possibly purchase a home by stopping at the Century 21 outpost, luncheon meats, an 8-track player, chocolates, coffee, farm-fresh fowl, specialty sausages, an infinite number of prepared foods, flowers, those holiday flags your neighbor adorescandlesnutsbreadspastriesfreshsqueezedorange juiceeggnogmyfingersarecrrraaammmppping...

Then of course there are the restaurants that dot the market, upwards of ten or so. I haven't been to any other than Cajun Kate's, but, uh, they exist. Carry cash, some stands take CCs but others don't. There's an ATM in Booth's Corner though, have no fear. Generally speaking, the items to purchase here are less expensive than their non-Booth's Corner counterparts, but always appraise a price with the keener of your two eyes. Not always is a bargain to be had.

Um, parking sucks but you'll deal. They're open only Fridays & Saturdays, so waves of people come and go en masse. Wear your grimiest clothes and your most relaxed, accepting attitude and have a blast.

The crabcakes from Christopher's are THE best. No filler and big chunks of crab.  After you grab a couple of crabcakes, go around the corner and buy the best coleslaw ever. I know people who don't eat coleslaw, but go nuts on this stuff.  Head over to Cajun Kate's and get some of the tomato parmesan soup. It's delicious and comes with a little box of homemade croutons and yummy pesto to spoon on top. Make sure you ask for the cold soup, otherwise they put the croutons on top and it gets mushy. I hate mushy!

As others have indicated, this isn't a true farmers market, but rather a farmers market/flea market hybrid. I personally find the food offerings to be the real draw of this place. Where else can you find Cajun cuisine and Amish baked goods under the same roof? To give you an idea of the eclectic nature of this place, on a recent visit here I walked away with Amish-made "dirt pudding", fresh string beans, a stuffed animal and my belly full of jambalaya from Cajun Kate's. Try doing that at the Christiana Mall!

I've been going here since I was just a kid taggin along on my parents heels. So many of the same places still exist in this market. They have really cleaned up the appearance and added on quite a bit. Odds and ends and of course the delicious food stands!

I really liked this place. It reminds me of the R. Terminal. I recommend this place for the food. (They also have some odd shops.) The salads/deli's are very good and they also have a good resturant inside, called Arnies or something (I forget the name) but the cheesesteaks were pretty good there, I was actually surprised. It's a nice place to go to early in the morning on a Saturday.

Do you really miss the Bazaar of All Nations in Clifton Heights? Do you want to buy fresh produce, throwing knives and porch furniture all in the same place? Do you think Kelly McGillis was totally hot as an Amish chick in Witness? Then you have got to get yourself to Booth's Corner!

Gotta admit, kinda dashed in to get some Cajun Kates and get out before rush hour. Took the long way around to get out and there are a number of food stands that look interesting. Could see bumping the rating up after another visit. If ya like cajun food, get here now for CKs.
