Boot Hill!!
Nicely maintained. Lots of things to buy in the giftshop. Gorgeous view. Your $2 donation to enter is put to good use and includes a booklet for the site to let you know the history behind each of the names in each row.
A few had epitaphs that had become famous (but not many). And then they had the Clanton & McLaurys. I was surprised that they had a JEWISH section of the cemetery... granted you had to walk aways down a path to get there... and then back up. They had a Chinese population there too. On the stagecoach ride, the guide mentioned "China Mary" and I saw her grave there. Most buried were men, but I noticed a few women were in there too.. . a prostitute who committed suicide (which apparently was common back then) and one woman who had been given too much medicine during childbirth. Margarita is buried there... one of the tales told at the Bird Cage Theater is that she was stabbed by Gold Dollar over a man.
The graves consisted of rock pilings with the names of the deceased freshly painted and attached to a pipe. Worth seeing - absolutely. But not as historically intact as I had hoped. Next time, I'll check out the Tombstone City Cemetery. I've heard that one is interesting. -

We walked around this cemetery and read all the names and the saying that they put on them. Not sure if this is really the place where everyone is buried but they say it is so who knows.
They had fudge for sale in the gift shop and I wanted some so bad, but we had just ate and it was hot out so I didn't get any but I sure was wishing I had some when I got back to the hotel that night, so my advice is get some and save it for later, it looked soooo good!!! -

For old west history fans and those who appreciate the effort residents have made to keep the old graveyard open a $2 donation is minimal. The brochure listing information for each grave site is helpful to understanding how difficult life was in the 1800's desert climate.
FYI ...the touristy gift store on the south side of the parking lot does nothing to support the grave sites, so we did NOT make any purchases there. -

The trappings of tourism have really taken an impact on Boot Hill.
The Tombstone City Cemetery far west on Allen street really is more historical and "intact".
That being said, if you're touristing around Tombstone, you do need to see Boothill. -

This place is fascinating, and there's no cost for admission.
The big reason to go is to see Billy Clanton and the McLaury brothers' final resting place, but there's also the great view from the cemetery as well as the interesting gravemarkers.
While several graves are marked simply "Unknown," in the diagonal corner from those killed at the OK Corral, there a small grouping of Asian-American plots. One grave is marked "Two Chinese," another "China Mary," and others use more *cough cough* colorful language.
We lost count of how many graves listed the deceased person as being shot, but there were a few that would read "Killed in a shoot-out with ..." and some listed the same person.
It really gives you a sampling of the life back then in showing you not only how people died in Tombstone, but how those in 1800s would label a person on a marker meant to stick with them forever.Listed in: Visitable History (California…, Roadside Arizona

This place wasn't bad. Worth a stop for sure. There is no charge, but there is a suggested donation, which I gladly paid for the preservation of the site. There isn't a whole lot to see if you don't know much about people who died in Tombstone. There is, of course, Billy Clanton and the McLaury boys to see, but otherwise not too many other well-known souls. It was really interesting to take the time to read through all the graves though - interesting to think about who these people were and how they lived in Tombstone. My favorite headstone read:
"AS YOU-PASS-BY
REMEMBER-THAT-AS
YOU ARE SO-ONCE-WAS -I
AND-AS-I AM-YOU
SOON-WILL-BE
REMEMBER-ME" -

If you're interested in the Old West, and if you're going to Tombstone it's safe to assume you have at least a mild interest, Boot Hill is worth checking out. It's the graveyard where residents of Tombstone were buried for a great number of years. Boot Hill has the graves of of Billy Clanton, Frank McLaury and Tom McLaury; the three men killed during the famed Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. It also has a number of graves that state the name of the person buried, the date they passes, and how they died (Shot, Stabbed, etc.).
It is a cool piece of history, and unlike many of the attractions in Tombstone, it's free to get in. Of course, you do have to walk through the gift shop to enter the cemetery so you may end up spending some money anyway, but it's not such a bad thing as the prices in the two shops on Boot Hill are overall lower than those in town. -

Loved this! A good part of the cemetery has been restored, and the pamphlet is helpful - gives the background of the folks interred here. Great for history buffs.

This was a fun and interesting place to check out. The history was very intriguing and the place is free to check out. They do ask for a donation. and that was just fine by me. Check it out !!
