We went on a seal watch, and I saw one seal off in the distance. But I understand its not the captains fault the seals weren't up for playing around. The ride itself was nice, though I didn't think worth the $30 or so it cost.
It also let out right next to my store, so I was always dealing with annoying people coming off the boats or rushing to get something last minute before they got on. -

If you agree that a 3-1/2-hour cruise is better than no cruise at all, then you won't mind dropping $35 for a little time on the ocean. But, if you're really looking forward to seeing some whales, try somewhere else. I'm sure someone at some time has seen whales in Boothbay Harbor, but I just went on my fourth whale-watching cruise without catching even a fleeting glimpse of the ocean mammoths. The folks who run the cruise will tell you they've seen whales "recently" or "just the other day" or "conditions seem perfect" or some such vague prediction. What's more (as their pitch goes), if you don't see whales, they'll give you a voucher for another free cruise. Well, if everyone lined up to redeem their vouchers at the same time, I'll bet those guys would be giving free cruises for a year! They might as well be selling unicorn cruises.
Save a few bucks and take one of the cheaper sightseeing cruises. They guarantee you'll see lighthouses, islands and shoreline and they deliver on that promise every time.
