What a great place to visit on a Fall Day!!

Bring a blanket and some chairs, picnic if you want!  There were some food options when we were here.  I got a BBQ sandwich, Italian sausage and potato salad and it was good.  We ordered a cabernet which was delicious.  We went on a guided tour through the winery and also partook in a hay-ride around the vineyard.

It was a great day! My only minor complaint is that I wish the lady we ordered the wine from went a little more into the wine and the taste rather than just handing us a wine list with the descriptions on it.

Boordy, hoping to come for a Winter Soup in the barn day!

    So much fun!

There really isn't any food here to review... I suggest bringing a picnic to accompany you because if you think you are just going to stop by for a tasting and bounce you are very mistaken. This is a great place to lose an entire afternoon just hanging out, tasting wine, touring the vineyard, and relaxing on a lawn/patio/picnic table. I'm a fan on Facebook and they are always posting events - summer concerts, movie nights, and other fun social activities. The folks manning the tasting area mentioned to us that if we wanted to order food from local delivery places they had several menus on hand. Luckily for us we had a hearty lunch before heading up to the vineyard.

Tip - Check in on Foursquare and get buy one get one free wine tastings (as of this post, tastings are 5 dollars pp with a free glass)

Agreed with some on here, the wines aren't spectacular, but the whole atmosphere they create makes it a great and affordable way to spend slow weekend afternoon. Buy a chilled bottle (several a little over 10 dollars), lay down a blanket, and soak in the scenery.

Boordy is one of the largest (and the oldest) winery in Maryland, and it shows (in a good way).  The whole experience from tour to tasting is very polished and welcoming.  I enjoyed hearing the history of the winery on the tour.  The original vintners snuck some vine cuttings from France past Customs officials and introduced Vidal Blanc to the U.S.  The rest of the tour was pretty standard this-is-how-we-make-the-wine fare.  They provided tastes of Shiraz throughout the tour.

The tasting took place at an outdoor counter.  It was a bit chilly for October, but much less crowded than trying to fit everybody indoors.  The employee serving our tasting was very knowledgable and there were many wines to try.  We must have tasted at least a dozen wines and didn't even try any of the dry reds.  The Spiced Wassail is especially tasty during the holiday season -- it tastes like Christmas!  I would buy any of the wines I tried.

The long and winding road leads to a serene valley of lush vineyard.  A quite barn transformed into a cozy party hall with beautiful historic stone walls, serving among the best local award winning wines in the midst of a beautiful Maryland country side.  The crew and I decided to attend Boordy's famous Soup In The Cellar Event -a weekend of homemade delicious soup, wine pairings, and live Jazzy music.  It was a hit for the soul and taste buds.  Boordy's Fruity sangrias were sweet, bold in flavor and crisp.  The Chardonnay had a hint of vanilla, clean bold flavor and also very delightful with every sip.  Boardy Blush is excellent for seafood and pasta, lots of different Merlot to choose from, and for a more fun twist they got peach tango, Viva Sangria and Jazzy Raspberry that I really love.  Lots of monthly events from live music, Seasonal Festivities and you may also book your private events if you so desire.  Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall there is always something to celebrate about at Boordy's and I am a absolute fan from the moment that their line of wines touched the tip of my tongue, to the lively music that brought life to my spirits.  It's their lovely vineyard and live entertainment blending together for that made such beautiful and memorable harmony.

Boordy Vineyards is probably the largest single vineyard in northern Maryland (that I know of), and their guided tours are fantastic. They walk you through the entire grape-growing and harvesting process, aging, and so on. The actual restaurant-ish section is nicely laid out, with a gift shop and tasting area. A few bucks buys you a wrist-band, and you can go hog wild.

They get three stars, frankly, because the wine isn't great. It's fine, but nothing I'd actually buy and take home. It's good enough for a tasting along with some appetizers after being out in the sun for an hour, but I just didn't think any of their offerings had enough flavor, body, or unique qualities to make me recommend any single bottle.

It's fun as an afternoon activity, but if you're a wine connoisseur, head to Black Ankle.

Went to Boordy on the way down to Baltimore from NYC. We thought we would be there around a half hour to do the wine tasting and maybe pick up a few bottles.

When we got there, Tom was behind the counter and was absolutely delightful! He was friendly, knowledgeable and allowed us to try many of the wines we wanted to. Needless to say, we bought a case and would highly recommend doing the tasting to anyone!

    Ahhhh Memory Lane....

Driving through the rustic valleys of Baltimore county swiftly around the bends of Long Green Pike on my way to school in the morning...and watching Boordy grow from just some weird plants on the hillside to the left as you pass the barns on the right to what it has become today!

    A GREAT LOCAL VINEYARD!

Having tasted their wine so many times and no its not the greatest wine in the world, but that is my pallet and wine hits everyone differently.  The great part of Boordy is the experience they have hit it square on the noggin here...whether it was (in the past) watching O'Malleys March or just going out for a wine tasting in the country you can have a wonderful experience here that will keep you wanting to come back!

Boordy Vineyards is like the Left Bank of Maryland....off Cromwell Rd.

This a great way to spend an afternoon, and when the crisp, fall air and radiant sunshine falls on the vineyard, you can't but help to put a glass of wine to your lips. The estate is rustic and beautiful and shows how much the Boordy has matured over the past 65 years. The tours (which are held at 2:00pm and 3:30pm each day) are straightforward and informative: they show the vineyards, the crushing pad, and the storage room where they hold the fermentation tanks and American/French oak barrels.

As much as I'd like to root for the hometown vineyard, Boordy wines aren't very good. Although the vineyards are within one longitudinal degree of Napa Valley, they don't come close to the cheaper Napa and Sonoma blends. Most of the reds had a lack of depth and acidity; the whites were either too cloying or one-dimensional in flavor. Nevertheless, the $5 sampling menu is a pretty solid deal as they let you have 1/2 oz tastes of most of the wines in their selection.

The wifey and I visited here yesterday and the tasting fee here seems to have changed.  Now the charge is $3 for 7 wines, and $2 additional if you want to keep the glass.  They were tasting outside today as they had an event going on, and it was nice.  I had never tasted outside here before.

The Pino Grigio is very crisp and nice.  The Merlot is milder and lighter colored than you typically expect.  It was very nice though... different and tasty.  The Boordy Blush is also very mild and not too sweet.  They have a Chamborcin/Merlot blend that they serve chilled and it is very good.  It has the characteristics of the Merlot with a bit of a sweeter twist to it (but not sweet and overpowering like a dessert wine can be).  Also the Reisling here is outstanding.

Definitely give them a visit... one of the better vineyards/wineries in the state of Maryland.

One of my favorite local events is the 'Good Life Thursday' Farmers Market held each Thursday evening at Boordy's.  Its a great way to relax outdoors with friends and family, while enjoying live music, a beautiful setting and savoring organic, sustainable, local food.

Wonderful hidden gem. Peach wine is delightful. The space is open. They have wonderful events. I always imagined a romantic wedding in the barn area! In the cellar they have a shop and a small intimate room...I think its known as a cigar room. You can find Boordy wine everywhere in Maryland. Just a delightful place.

Good to go hang out, and taste some wine. My fiance and I did the wine tasting and the tour. The wine tastings could be a little more generous. When I go wine tasting I like to get a nice buzz going. That will not happen here. But it was only $5 for the tour and tasting. But then again, some vineyards are free. The tour was quick, and informative. We sampled about 8 wines. I saw people buying cases, not sure why... The wine is not that good. As another reviewer already stated on here, the wines from nappa/sonoma CA are a lot better. They did have some fun mixes like sangria. All in all, this place is great to go with friends from out of town, maybe pack a lunch, buy a bottle, and sit in the picnic table area on a nice day. But if you plan on getting a buzz off wine tastings, think again. Lastly I would not go crazy and buy a case because the wine wasn't good. But it was worth the visit.

    What a day!

OK so hooky is a wonderful thing.  It gets exponentailly better when it is with someone you love.  It then increases beyond words and becomes etherial when that person enjoys it as much as you do.

We went out for a day of food and wine as a few local wineries in the "Maryland Horse Country" area.  Boordy's was our last but was also by far and away the best.

We stopped and purchased some supplies from a local market inclusive of a wonderful bread and some cheese and proscuitto and strawberries for a picnic.  Boordy has this lovely area right out front with a small open field as well as about a dozen patio tables and several picnic tables.  We bought a bottle (Shiraz) and grabbed a couple glasses and away we went.

Ok the wine:  good quality, nice body and great bold taste.  Definately got the currant on the finish.  Went great with the food and better with the company.

So grab a picnic and head to Boordy's.  Sorry but you'll have to find your own Sugar!

Oh my god I love their stuff. I usually make a pilgramage from DC to B-more about three times a year to (1) drag my friends to the tour, (2) eat clam chowder, (3) roast marshmellows on a open fire, (4) taste awesome wines and (5) to order a case of some of the best wine I've come across.

    This stuff is good. Seriously.

Good wine, festive atmosphere, great grounds, and friendly people!

Came here over the weekend. The winery had holiday decorations up, as well as a singer (celtic, I believe). There was also a chocolate tasting (bark and truffles). The tasting was $5 and includes the souvenir glass if you'd like to keep it.

We did our wine tastings (the vidal blanc, riesling were among my faves; the just for fun wines are good too). We tried out the bark and truffles (the peppermint bark was delicious, and I really enjoyed the mexican chili truffle. although, bf thought it was too spicy and did not like it).

We bought a bottle of riesling and parked ourselves at a table on the first floor.

Also take a look at their shop. It had some cute wine-related things that made for good gifts!

Outside there's an open pit for smores. Unfortunately, we were too close to the end of the day that there were no more marshmellows. Bummer. Next time!

Anyways, Boordy's was a great way to spend an afternoon!

Came here to start off a bachelorette party weekend for my cousin, and the bridesmaid who came up with this idea was absolutely brilliant. We brought a picnic lunch of cheese, crackers, bread, fruits, and salads. Thank goodness the vineyard allows indoor picnics because it was too chilly to sit outside. The sitting area has tables stacked on top of wine barrels, complete with tall stools, and rustic decor. After we filled up on cheese and fruits, we started the tasting with a very friendly and humorous Boordy guide. We finished up our visit with a tour of the vineyard. I definitely recommend a visit for a quiet afternoon.

I really enjoyed my time at Boordy. They have a super friendly staff and delicious wines. I really do enjoy their Riesling, Boordy Blush and Sangria. The Sweet Esling is really delicious too! Yummy!
The wine tasting is super cheap too - for $5 you can keep your glass and for $3 you give the glass back. Not bad at all. The tour is fun and Sandy is a great tour guide.
A fun place to go and they have tons of picnic tables for you to enjoy a nice picnic lunch and wine. They also host concerts and fun events during the summer. A great place to go! :)

I enjoy going here not just for the wine, but it's a nice drive in the Maryland country side. The wine is good, not great by any standard, but the grounds are nice for a picnic. Lot's of trees in the picnic area.
