Among all the new galleries that have popped up, Boontling proves to be on it's own wave. I finally stopped by and was amazed! The type of show and the crowd was unique. It's hard to keep your space fresh without wandering into the usual gallery style. I really like what they're doing. It's tough to make such a small space work the way they have.

Boontling is one of my favorite Oakland galleries. Mike and Derek have consistently put together fantastic contemporary art shows and make great use of the little space they have. While the exhibition space is a bit cramped during openings, I recommend stopping by on a weekend afternoon and spending some quality time with the art. It is clear that Boontling cares for the local art scene and deals with "street" art with an intelligence and class that is unexpected from curators so youthful.
