This newly built branch of the Boone County Public Library system serves as its headquarters. Crowned with a spectacular (and controversial) copper dome, this 75,000 square feet library has ten meeting rooms, nearly fifty public computers, and an enormous children's library with spacious play area.

I'll get my only yet substantial complaint out of the way: for a main library branch, this place doesn't have many books. I'm not talking about obscure or overly specialized texts. Several times, I've looked for classics by Dostoevsky or Faulkner or general interest books on subjects like web programming to no avail. These books are available at other branches and the helpful librarians will be happy to have them transferred, but I'm kind of impatient.

However, the library has an amazing youth section (actually half on an entire floor) located on the second floor. From baby-proof picture books to teenage tomes, this extensive collection will have something for younger readers to enjoy. There's also a play area with puzzles, puppets, bead mazes, trucks, dolls, and big cushiony stuffed animals, as well as several computers with educational games, in the enclosed children's library.

I'm not going to knock this branch too much for its lack of books (the library isn't a year old yet) because the staff's superior customer service makes up for it. Additionally, this library serves as a much needed community education and outreach facility for citizens of all ages.
