Miami, FL
A couple decades ago, there was a place in Key West called Magic Carpet Golf. It held two incredible 18-hole courses with cool twists and turns - windmills, frogs, Easter Island statues - just mini-golf craziness. It was awesome. Well, through the primrose lens of nostalgia, I remember it as having been awesome, anyway.
The 18-hole course attached to Boondocks isn't quite as inspiring as that one was, but it offers some fun holes, many that present the golfer with a choice - play it safe, or flirt with disaster and go for that hole in one. Given the typically flimsy mini-golf putters provided that don't allow for the greatest aiming, with most of these holes, your best option is to play it safe, because the gonzo option is almost always absurdly difficult. I play real golf every week, and I even had a hard time getting the ball to go precisely where I wanted it to. Still, I was able to shoot "under par" both rounds I played - and yes, I even lucked out once and scored a hole in one.
I'd say the "greens fee" is a little on the steep side, but if you make it through one round and want to play again, you can do so at a drastically reduced price. All in all, worthy entertainment, I'd say. -

Love Boondocks. We have been there several times on our last 2 visits to the Keys. We always sit at the bar, and the service is always excellent--friendly and efficient. Not a terribly exciting draft selection, but we can usually find something that is tasty enough. Always enjoy the food, particularly the Bang Bang Shrimp and seared tuna dish. Look forward to kicking off our Keys visits here for many years to come.

REVIEWING MINI GOLF ONLY
Wife and I mini-golf pretty often, and this was one of the best maintained courses we've ever played. Full bar, too, so you can get your drink on - wife didn't drink, and man did my score suffer. Whatever, we had a blast. Holes are a little simple, but the landscaping is beautiful. We were expecting a tourist trap, and were pleasantly surprised. -

This place ROCKS! We stopped for a round of miniature golf on our drive back from Key West. We ended up playing 2 rounds on this kick ass course. We drank some rum & cokes while playing fixed by Allyson, (the mini golf shack attendant and the NICEST person we encountered in all of Florida). Booze + Mini Golf = awesome!!!!
Stop here..hidden gem for SURE. -

Always a favorite stop on our yearly trip to KW. My wife and I always fly into Lauderdale and drive the last 190 miles so we can see the sights.
We found this place by doing just that. It is a huge looking Tiki Hut, right by the road. Who the hell can pass up a Tiki Hut in the keys when you are thirsty??
Every time we have stopped it has been great. I cant really comment on the food, except for the wings. They are decent, but we always just stop to have one or 10 beers for the last 27 miles into town.
Great atmosphere, good service, warm breezes and cold beer. Ahh, what else could you want? -

Don't waste your money! Nineteen dollars for an average (at best) fish sandwich? I think not, at least never again!
My husband ordered a pork bar-b-que sandwich and didn't think it was very good. It also looked skimpy...but the price tag was not small.
There are simply too many places in the Keys to get great seafood and the check total won't leave you looking for a bank to rob to pay the tab. The shrimp and such that's available at happy hour are supposed to be good; but I don't plan on ever going back to try again. It's pretty to sit in but don't eat there unless you have way more money than sense. -

Fun atmosphere and decent food with prices to match. There will be a wait especially on weekends but seeing its one of the only major restaurants in the area, its understandable and not normally too long to stick it out. After dinner cocktails did leave something to be desired unfortunately. I had the mint chocolate chip (thinking it would taste more like the ice cream, but it didn't, so at $9 a pop, I'd skip that next time). Overall it was a good time, went on a night they were having a trivia night so it was definitely interactive and entertaining.

Nice outdoor setting for lunch or dinner. The fish is fresh and very good. The wait staff were nice and very fast. Had lunch and then played a round of minigolf!

My wife and I were traveling with our kids age 7 and 11 as well as our small dog. The patio area is dog friendly and the staff was very helpful. They didn't have a table ready but quickly pulled a table up and got us set up. My wife had the coconut shrimp, I had the spinach salad with fresh blueberries with added blackened chicken. The munchkins had the normal chicken strips. The live band / guitarist was nice. We would recommend. Mile marker 27 on us 1.

Lots of fun!
This is a large open air restaurant that clearly caters to the vacation crowd. Fun 'south seas tiki hut' decor, with a number of televisions above the bar so you can follow news/sports. Lots of good drinks to be had. Everyones food was tasty and well prepared. They have live music in the evening and there were many people in the gray haired set out there dancing the night away. That being said, my 7 year old daughter had fun too. They served her food on a frisbee, and it was one of her favorite souvenirs from our trip. There is miniature golf outside.
I'm dinging them a point because our server was somewhat inattentive. He was friendly enough, but I think he was doing double duty as a bartender that night.
Definitely worth a stop. -

Avoid the place on the weekend, and I would only recommend hitting them during their Happy Hour from 4-6pm on Weekdays.
It is about the only time you will get anywhere near your money's worth. -

Took my Naturalist Journeys tour group here for lunch as there was a lot of shade under that tiki hut on a hot afternoon. Plenty of ceiling fans kept it cool, but the music was very loud in the bar area. Could've sat in the downstairs area, but that had a concrete floor and plastic chairs, not the best setting.
Our waitress (Nichole) turned the music down a bit when asked and was incredibly efficient and attentive. Repeated everyone's order before putting it into the computer - that meant no mistakes.
For the most part the food was nothing special, but it was good. Two items that were outstanding were their Bang-Bang shrimp (we double ordered after the first round, it was that good!) and the crab-asparagus soup.
Easy place with consistently good food... -

Went there 09/17/11 with a party of 17 (GulfShore Mustang Club). Food was prepared and presented in a timely manner. All orders were prepared correctly with no problems. Service was attentive and cordial. Everyone was satisfied with Boondocks. I would recommend this restaurant and will visit them again when in the Keys.

A good place for a meal (and if you're in the mood, some mini golf: http://www.yelp.com/bi... ). We stopped in for lunch and managed to sit out a brief spot of rain. Our server, Stephen, was a nice guy, even chatting with us after we finished our dessert.
I tried the Black & Bleu Burger, but with a chicken breast substitution. Not sure this was the best idea, maybe bleu cheese works better on a burger than on chicken. But the bacon and chicken were tasty, and the potato salad on the side was good stuff

My wife had a blackened mahi mahi sandwich, which she enjoyed, and the fries were a hit too.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
To drink, she had a key lime margarita(?), which was rather thick, and tasted just like key lime. I tried the local, Ug's Chug, which was like a Bass ale, but a little sweeter. nice. for dessert we split a turtle cheesecake. wow, caramel and cheesecake. mmmm....

Good selection of beers, and a nice relaxing place to have lunch. and then off to the mini golf. On the day we went, the restaurant was populated by snowbirds, while bikers would pull into the parking lot.
Note: they don't take Amex, though they
Second Note: Boondocks is located on Ramrod Key, despite what Yelp says. Right at Mile Marker 27.5 - can't miss it.Listed in: Random Places in South Florida, Mini Golf around the USA

The usual fare taken up a notch in flavor and quantity, not to mention psychic waitresses, all under an enormous tiki hut.
My dining companion had nachos and I had a good old American hamburger and they were both very tasty and filling. He was also happy to find Grolsch on tap there.
The place was crowded and we had a bit of a wait but the experience overall was pleasant. Our wait person was one of those real pros who know what you want before you even have a chance to ask for it.
The bar occupies one half of the establishment and they have daily bar specials.
They also own the adjacent miniature golf course in case you need to digest your dinner afterwards. It is touted as the only one in the Keys, which I imagine is true!
All in all, a happy, casual place to dine at on your way down to or back from Key West. -

Food has gone downhill in a hurry. Great place for a drink and happy hour ( 1/2 price apps) but not much else. We'be been coming here for a while and food used to be much better. Miss the old boondocks.

Good stop on the way up or down the Keys! Loved the open air style. The food was better than most. A lot of it is made there on site and not the premise food service Junk! The service was also very good!!

I've been going to Boondocks for well over 9 years. The place is not what it used to be. I remember when they had 12 tales, no bar, no patio, and no walls. I loved it then. The grouper sandwiches were 8.00 and the beers were nice and cold.
The servers now are snotty and the atmosphere isn't much different than any other hokey place in the lower keys. The conch fritters are still pretty damn good though. Also, the karaoke is amusing on a weeknight during the off season. I guess change is inevitable and things could be worse. -

Great waiter! Very attentive and quick with a joke! We had a party of 12, but he kept drinks full and food came fairly soon. Food was good, I had grilled chicken and asked for a side of mango salsa (no problem) . My sister had blackened fish, it was a little dry( it was very thin) , difficult to keep warm, and serve all dinners together maybe?

Neat place on the way to Key West or coming back from. Kind of a tourist trap style restaurant. Food was above average, drinks were reasonably priced, service was not all that great. Been here a few times.

Was told not to be afraid of this place and I'm glad I listened. Their Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer is absolutely delicious. You can either sit on the patio to enjoy a local band or up in the bar, surrounded by TVs displaying every sports game playing at the moment.

My husband and I were on our way down to Key West for an evening of drinking and wanted something fun to do when I saw a sign for Boondocks miniature golf. On first looks, the course did not seem that challenging. On most holes there was a pretty straight shot to the final hole. But when you took the shot the ball would start moving away from where you aimed because all of the holes were leveled funny. Watch the holes, there are a couple that have goofy paths that you might not expect.
I always enjoy miniature golf so I generally have fun a like everyone one that I have been to. But, I also got to beat my husband so this course will always have a special place in my heart. -
Review from Pete V.
Dolloar mimosas are great. 39 cent wings even better. Lots of outdoor seating. If you're looking for a spot to throw back a beer and grind on some wings while on a 3 hr drive down to Key West, this is the place to stop.

We stopped here on the way back from Bahia Honda. I was absolutely starving, and this place did not disappoint. The dolphin sandwich was my favorite I've had in Florida. They also had a tuna steak sandwich that was really unusual but delicious. I would highly recommend the restaurant.

A+ for atmosphere. Typical touristy open air bar. Friendly staff. Spotless bathrooms. Food is just ok, but happy hour is a lot of fun with half price apps from 4-6pm, plus drinks and beer are very inexpensive! Definitely worth a stop in after the beach or just for some drinks and snacks.

We had a great dining experience at this restaurant. I have to say the wasabi tuna and the cream of crab soup are by far a MUST! Awesome!! Very clean bathrooms, the wait staff was very friendly, and the miniature golf course was super fun. I will definitely be back soon!!
