Our Greeter sat us down and provided menus. Our order was taken within 3 minutes and our food arrived nice and hot in 12 minutes. I had General Tso's Chicken and my friend had the Almond Chicken. You got to try their bread rolls, They are huge and They taste sooo good, I had to get seconds! We noticed that our waitress had a problem understanding English so talk slow to her. There was appx 8 other customers in the restaurant when we arrived. The restaurant is out-dated decorations including the glass over the tables they felt greasy but thats the very scratched up glass tables. - 4 of 5 Stars. This restaurant does NOT offer all-you-can-eat buffet.

Royal Oak Charter Township, MI
This was my absolute favorite chinese restaurant in the area when I lived in Walled Lake. I used to order General Tsao or Sechzuan Chicken until I tried the Gum Lo Wonton. I've never seen it on any other restaurants menu but once I had it, I never ordered other meal off their menu, it's THAT good.
Chicken, Pork, Beef and Shrimp with all kinds of vegetables and wontons in an amazing sauce served with white rice. -

BOON KAI is the best chinese restaurant in michigan!
its a little precious gem hiding in the city of walled lake.
the hot & sour soup is medicine!
gum lo wonton is my favorite~ i always ask for extra wontons!!
boonkai special, sweet & sour beef & chicken is a must!!!
i love the fact that they use real chicken breast for their chicken meat and not some reconstituted bleach chicken like the hole in the wall chinese restaurants in the hood.
oh and their home made buns!! i love the smell of it! always pack up a dozen before i go home.
the price is very reasonable and the portion is more than enough!
i live about a good hour away but it is always worth the drive!!! -

Good food and value. Restaurant is looking a little old and dated. They had the heat turned down low so it was a little uncomfortable for my wife. Service was good.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I don't live in the area, but when I go to visit my aunt I always order from Boon Kai. I always order for pick up, so I can't attest to what it is like to eat there. From my experiences I can say that the food is fantastic and cheap. Can it get any better than that!!! Oh, and the food is almost always ready within 10 minutes (which seems to be much quicker than any place I am used to).
I almost always eat the Almond Chicken. It's awesome. Try it! -

I love Boon Kai, I lived in Walled lake for a good 10 years and Now I'm in a different state. I am constantly comparing other Chinese places to the food I know and love from Boon Kai, I have yet to find one that measures up. The Egg drop soup and Pepper steak is the best I have ever had, sure the inside is usually empty and dark, but who wants to be in a crowded place where someone is staring at you while you eat? Out dated decor, sure but i would rather they focus on the food instead of how up to date and trendy the dining room is. Only dislike is that they are closed on Mondays so if I have a hankering for Chinese on a Monday I would have to go somewhere else. Now every time I come home I make a trip to Boon Kai. Its a Walled Lake staple in my book.

Review from Dean S.
Boon Kai is a slightly-above average Chinese take out or eat-in restaurant. Located in an older shopping plaza in Walled Lake, Boon Kai has made a name for itself by having a budget-friendly Chinese menu. Plates run anywhere from $4 a plate for combination plates to $11 for the seafood orders. Most carryout runs 3-6 per pint and 5-8 per quart, depending on the order.
Very friendly staff, they accept credit cards and provide free refills of soft drinks. Again, the menu is not a high-quality Chinese food menu, but it does help quench that late night Chinese food craving that we all have from time to time.
I'm by no means a regular, but I have been known to haunt the door way occasionally on a weekend. -

Walled Lake, MI
we recently moved to the WL area, and were happy to find a good hinese take out restaurant. I agree with other reviews: the restaurant itself is dark and uninviting. Carry out is the way to go here.
Chicken fried rice is consistently good.
We really like the sweet and sour chicken: good sauce on the side, no "weird" gristly chicken.
Boon Kai is part of our regular carry out rotation! -

While the decor is dismal the food is very good & reasonably priced. Whenever I'm in the mood for Chinese, I go here.

Walled Lake, MI
Pretty run of the mill Chinese joint. Dark and sorta dingy on the inside. Food is greasy but you get plenty of it. If it tells you anything, I drove 15 minutes to another Chinese place today when I could have walked to Boon Kai....but it'll work in a pinch.

Excellent American Chinese. Almond chicken rocks not over breaded. broccoli beef is great, sweet and sour chicken and the dinner rolls are the BEST. my favorite egg roll and rockin hot and sour soup. Lived in Connecticut for 3 years, there was a place a mile away that was on some top 100 chinese restaurants in America. Meh. soups were good but nothing else.
