Review from Don A.
San Diego, CA
The brussels sprouts were some of the best I've ever had.
The beer selection was from the area and also excellent.
The burger and fries were great.
The atmosphere was warm and friendly; good music, good service.
Absolutely the best restaurant I've been to in a long time. -
Review from Anna D.
This was a welcome sight when we were browsing through downtown Guerneville for something to eat. Hello, you had me at Pork Belly. Their panino was delicious. The pork was buttery and tender and the dressings on the panino were tasty complements -- winner, winner aioli! DH had the grass fed beef burger which was just as good. You can really taste the difference in quality in the grass fed beef.
Worthwhile establishment to patronize if you find yourself up at Russian River. Check out their Further products in the bathroom as well. Kudos to you Boon for promoting the sustainable circle! -
Review from Pearl L.
San Francisco, CA
Overall delicious food, but the David's Special was disappointing. We ordered the scallop carpacchio special, burger, fried chicken, brussel sprouts, mixed greens, and polenta lasagna. Everything was fantastic. The David's Special consisted of sauteed mixed veggies, including brussel sprouts, spinach, carrots, onions, and mushrooms, with a sprinkling of faro. If you're looking for a decent veggie stirfry, it's fine, but I would not waste a menu choice on this. The brussel sprouts and the vegetarian polenta lasagna particularly were revelations. Who knew you could make those dishes so decadent?
Service was efficient but not particularly warm. It became a bit spotty when the restaurant got busy (between 6:30 and 7:30). Regardless, overall, this is a great spot for delicious, reasonably priced food. -

Awesome burger. With the homemade fries to match. And what's better than catchup on your homemade fries? (this is not a trick question) Homemade catchup on your homemade fries. And what's better than homemade catchup on your homemade fries? (okay, this one's a bit trickier) Homemade catchup served with homemade aioli on your homemade fries. O-M-G.

My girlfriend and I come up to Forestville all summer long. One of our favorite places to eat near by is here. Both of us being vegetarians always find great stuff to order, lovely service, and I love the rotating menu. The only reason I didn't give Boon 5 stars cause mama loves a martini with her dinner. The just wine or beer is not may thing but I still heart you Boon!!! I always tell everyone I know going to this area to give them a try!!!!

Review from Amy J.
Perfect little restaurant! The menu offers organic and local ingredients, and has an array of delicious & creative little morsels. I love it when everything on a menu sounds tempting. Luckily my husband was wiling to share a few things with me making it easier to choose! We had a mixed greens salad with cherries and my favorite at the moment- point reyes blue cheese. Then we shared the truffled mac & cheese with wild mushrooms, and the grass fed burger with more point reyes blue cheese, and truffled fries with homemade ketchup and garlic aioli. Everything was perfect! The service was also very lovely. We'll definitely be back and think you should go check it out, too!

Poorly seasoned dishes with tiny portions. $23 for a piece of halibut less than an inch wide? Seriously?
Snotty service. Thoroughly unimpressed. -

San Francisco, CA
While visiting Guerneville for the weekend, we had a chance to visit Boon for dinner. The food and service were both excellent.
They don't take reservations, but we walked in @ 7:30 on a Saturday night and were seated pretty quickly, which was lucky because the space is relatively small and it was busy. This also meant that it was a bit on the noisy side.
On to the food. The flash-fried artichokes, seasoned with salt, pepper, red chili flakes and lemon juice were a special kind of amazing. The perfect combination of flavor and texture. I could eat these for every meal.
For an entree, I had the seared duck breast over compote of root veggies. At first I hesitated to order this dish because the side of "root veggies" didn't sound super exciting. Boy was I wrong. The perfect addition to a perfectly cooked piece of duck. My wife had the skirt steak, which was also very good.
We usually skip desert - unless they offer pannacotta, which Boone does. The perfect pannacotta with blueberry compote, in fact. Our entire meal was fantastic, but this was my favorite. Not too sweet, wonderfully creamy. Out of this world.
My one complaint: I would have liked to see more variety on the wine list. This is wine country after all. -

Am only reviewing on what I ate there and so far everyone else we've spoken to in the area knows the restaurant and has great things to say.
Flash-fried brussel sprouts with salt, pepper, red chili flakes, and fresh lemon juice - out of this world! Easily the most fresh and delicious tasting brussel sprouts I've ever had. My wife doesn't like them generally but scarfed these down.
Braised pork belly with ginger and orange zest glaze along with garlicky greens and some really cool beans...The greens had great acidity and the beans were very smooth to balance out the richness of the pork belly - beautiful crisp edges and super tender inside. Reasonably priced as well - my wife had a flat-iron steak with truffle oil french fries. Revelatory.
No dessert but did have a nice selection of local brews - Racer #5 IPA was solid but not a must-drink. Wish I could come back again soon.1 Previous Review: Show all »

San Francisco, CA
What a great addition to main street Guerneville! I keep coming back because the food is great, good local wine selection and it has this cool "San Francisco" casual vibe, but wrapped in a small country town package.
They are almost always busy when I've been and they don't take reservations, so bring your patience with you - you might have to wait for a bit. Honestly, your in a resort town, so relax!
As for the food, everything I've had here is super tasty! My favorite is the polenta lasagna. Great place to check out! -
Review from Justin H.
San Francisco, CA
I was in Guerneville for the weekend and decided to try Boon as I liked the previous burger place that was in this space. Yelp showed great reviews, so I figured I'd give it a shot.
My girlfriend and I walked in and were promptly greeted and seated by the staff. The atmosphere was cozy and intimate with the perfect amount of lighting. Our waitress was great. She gave us a few recommendations and we ended up ordering a couple glasses of wine, mac & cheese, brussel sprouts, and the braised pork shoulder with polenta.
One of the staff came out to serve our wine and it happened to be the owner, Krista. She was very nice, and it was obvious she took great pride in her business. She spoke with many of the guests and was very accommodating.
Our food arrived in good time and was absolutely delicious. Everything was very well prepared and tasted fresh. The brussel sprouts were great, the grilled bread was very tasty and the polenta that came with the pork was creamy and delicious. It was probably the best polenta I've eaten (haven't eaten much, but this was the best).
One other detail that many restaurants overlook is refilling water. I love that this place gives you a large bottle of water and make sure to keep it full.
Overall, I had a great experience. This is probably the best restaurant in Guerneville....if not, it's very close. I will be returning soon. -

San Jose, CA
This experience was entirely unforgettable. After our first meal at Boon, my Fiancee and I decided to try as many things on the menu as possible, so we visited Boon for Dinner on a Thursday night and again for lunch on the following Saturday. This didn't workout too well, as we ended up ordering almost the identical meal twice in a row.
We started off with the famous flash fried Brussels Sprouts, which are absolutely the best cooked & flavored vegetable that I've ever put in my mouth. Saying anything else would simply not do them justice, so I'll stop there.
Second, we ordered the Truffle Mac'n Cheese, which was a decadent creamy masterpiece itself! Highly recommended, but very rich...we actually ended up ordering another serving towards the end of the meal...so I guess it wasn't too rich!
Third, we split the pork belly which was really good but not amazing. Our main issue was with the way it was prepared...it kind of tasted like a boiled version, which some people may really enjoy. We however really like pork belly with a cooked crust, with taste from the grill left behind.
Finally, we split the duck entree which was cooked to absolute perfection and tasted just as good, if not better than duck we've had at French Laundry.
When we went back for lunch 2 days later, we ordered the Brussels Sprouts, Mac'n Cheese and the Burger with Truffle fries. This was perfectly cooked and just as tasty as the best burgers I've had in the past. The fries were really good too, but the truffle taste was much lighter than the Mac'n Cheese, but still amazing.
This is truly an amazing restaurant...we're already planning on our next day trip from San Jose just for this food! -

What a find! We found this rest randomly with Yelp and we were quite impressed with the quality considering we were in the middle of the woods.
Try the...
* Broiled eggs
* Brussel sprouts
Hamburger was above average, but you should try one of the other creative dishes. -
Review from Jean Y.
After walking around Guerneville, I concluded that there is not a whole lot of competition in the area.
Overall, the food is well executed, although portion sizes are small and the dishes are not extremely inventive.
* Gazpacho: A bit spicy, which I liked.
* Seared salmon on panzanella with cherry tomatoes and sweet corn was good. However, the panzanella was really more like arugula with three croutons.
* The entire table shared orders of truffle fries, roasted beets, and mac & cheese, which were all good.
I would not recommend Boon for large parties. I dined here with a group of a dozen people, and we were stuffed like sardines into a very narrow space at the front of the restaurant where we could barely move our arms without elbowing each other.
Another oddity was that we were unable to get coffee after the meal. -

My husband and I visited this restaurant located on the main strip in Guerneville while we were celebrating his birthday in a little town off of Highway 1. The inside of this place is very modern, they're focused on sustainability, and the food was ORGASMIC.
It was the best meal I've had in recent memory, and hands down the best we had during his whole birthday weekend. Waitstaff as well as chef are really passionate and knowledgeable about the food - great find and we'd highly recommend. -

I need to not wait so long after i try a new spot before i review it. i know i had a wonderful dinner here, i was glowing during and afterward, great local wine, awesome service, and i loved the doggie wall paper but my mind is really stuck on the BRUSSELS SPROUTS! i know that everything we ate was amazing, but i can't recall exactly what i had except for the sprouts, which were simply amazing. wow. dreamt about them. i even thought about emailing Boon for the recipe but i knew that i could never make them like they did and would be very disappointed.
their menu changes all the time, they support local farms and businesses, even grow their own stuff, use organic ingredients, good quality meats (sustainably raised, hormone/antibiotic free), and local wines.
another plus is that they have outdoor seating (a few small tables and a wall counter) so i can bring the pooch there! it's a small place so i recommend calling for a reservation just in case. i was there on a sunday night and we went early and had no problem but i wouldn't want you to miss out on such a fabulous experience just b/c you didn't call them first!
i'd love to try their Boon Hotel + Spa as well. i am definitely going back to Boon next time i'm up there. i'd even make a special trip just for them. -

Our second time to visit Guernville. What? You've been there twice, I hear you shout. Boon wasn't there the first time. I wasn't impressed with the eatrey selection then.
But! The second time wandering the main street wondering where to have a late lunch after driving over the windy road from the Sanoma coast, we found Boon. Boon has a very un-imposing entrance and we nearly went somewhere else. That would have been a mistake. As mentioned in other reviews the fried brussel sprouts were a revelation. I've been trying to copy them ever since. I can't remember my main course, probably a delicious burger.
During a recent visit ti Kauai'i Hawai'i We actually met someone (Debbie and her daughter Shareen). they sung Boon's praises and hope it can last through the winter. -

I really enjoyed this place because of the quality of the food. It was a bit more expensive than I'm used to but still delicious. I hate Brussels sprouts but I couldn't stop eating these. The arugula and fries were tasty as well.

I have only eaten here once. It was good. I think I may return whenever I'm in the area.
I had ordered the burger with the truffle fries. It is to die for. The meat is really fresh, love the pickled onions. It's totally something different. The fries come with aioli and home made ketchup. I think everything here is homemade. It is a bit pricey, but for the area and quality of food, it is a good value. -

Our meal was so good! We were a party of four and we had a few things off the menu and we enjoyed every bite. We ordered two burgers and fries...perfection! We also ordered the Polenta Lasagna, Flash Fried Brussel Sprouts, Mac n Cheese, and the Beet Salad. It was all good! No complaints from anyone. We were all very happy that we stumbled upon this place. OMG, I almost forgot the best part.....the brownie dessert with sea salt...yummy!

The fact that boon:
*supports local farms + businesses
*use primarily organic ingredients and hormone-free, antibiotic free,
sustainably-raised meats.
*grows a lot of their own produce and herbs
makes this place great! The freshness of their food is something that really stands out. They have a lot of vegetarian options. We had the burrata with beet pesto + grilled bread, and the chilled organic beet salad with redwood hills chèvre, toasted hazelnuts, fresh mint + citrus
vinaigrette as appetizers.
For main course we had the vegetarian polenta lasagna, which was probably the best lasagna I've ever had in my life! It didn't have any pasta either, just polenta and tons of flavor instead!
We almost went back for breakfast and dinner again, but decided to try to explore the area a little more... The chef/chefs at Boon have got some serious skills! We shall return some day.. -

We "yelped" restaurants in Guernville last Friday after visiting Armstrong Redwoods. Many of the restaurants were closed, We wanted a 4-5 star rating. We found Boon Food + Drink. Wow! Absolutely terrific! I had the mushroom pannino with house made chips and my husband had the special pulled pork sandwich with truffle fries. All great, service, welcome, menu, food! Try it!

We had plans to hit one of the more storied brunch spots in Sonoma on the last day of our visit to Wine Country, but Boon caught our attention and wouldn't let go. As we strolled along the otherwise uninspiring main drag in Guerneville, it was a welcome surprise to happen upon a small, simple, homey space with a mouthwatering array of dishes and an ample amount of charm.
The creators of Boon did a magnificent job of writing menu descriptions that all sound so incredible it makes choices impossible. Between the four of us, we did our best to try a diverse range of creative dishes. Boon is forthcoming about only having eggs one way: poached. And they do poached perfectly. My girlfriend and her parents dug into a hearty bowl of eggs, polenta and garlicky greens, festooned with local goat cheese for an earthy kick. The combo really worked, and I didn't hesitate to pinch some samples while looking up from my own well-crafted poached egg masterpiece: poached eggs on ratatoille, with fire-grilled ciabetta and potatoes, covered in deliciously firm and fresh ricotta salata. Good to the last bite.
We kicked off our savory brunch with a wild arugula, shaved fennel and dry jack salad, with a light lemon viniagrette that practically cleansed the palate. With the salad, we dove into a tasty plate of flash-friend cauliflower, pine nuts, raisins and chili.
Boon is building a mini-empire in Guernevile, as they have a hotel+spa and a high-end grocery store called Big Bottom a few doors down. We checked out the hotel and were duly impressed. This threesome has a good future. -
Review from Laila P.
Boyfriend and I came to Boon for my birthday dinner in June. It was packed, but the nice (owner?) lady suggested that if we didn't want to wait, she could seat us at the bar. We took her suggestion. The stools were comfy and at no point did we feel like we were in the way and the service was still impeccable.
We ordered the hamburger, the mac n cheese, the greens, the meatballs, some french fries and a few beers. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful.
Things were relatively pricey, however, many menu items are farm fresh and locally sourced. We would definitely come here again. -

The flatiron steak hit the spot! The pinot from Paul Martin (might be getting that name wrong) was very well balanced.
That was a meal that left me VERY satisfied.
Get here early. If you don't you're going to wait. Even so, it's worth it. They do it a bit differently here, and it works.
Mouth is watering thinking about that steak again..... -

Super good food and service. Very glad we went! They obviously love what we love: fresh simple food. There can be a long wait, but so what? There are bars next door where you can hang out until your table is ready.
Recommend flank steak, burrata salad, cauliflower, truffle fries / aoli. -
Review from Kevin L.
3.5 stars really, but a lot of soft factors made me round up in the displayed rating.
I had the Boon burger, which had aged white cheddar slices, arugula, pickled pink onions. I feel bad since everything was perfect about the burger except for the meat, which was dry and overcooked for the medium rare that I had ordered it for (true for three of my friends too), Paired with a juicy pink meat, this would have been a bomb o' a burger since I really liked how the cheese didn't overwhelm the meat and the housemade ketchup/aioli was RIDICULOUSLY good.
Mac n' Cheese, as well as the polenta pork shoulder were tasty too, from the samples bites I nabbed. Buttermilk panna cotta also great as a finisher and it comes with a layer of berries and two lavender shortbread cookies.
I liked the wallpaper with the dog catching the frisbees, even if I thought they were deformed wallabies on first glance. -
Review from NORA L.
Berkeley, CA
Let me first begin by saying that I loved the food at Boon, but our dining experience was tainted by a rude patron and how he was handled. My experience overall is a 3 based on my feelings about the strange interaction we experienced and how it was managed. If I were to rate food and service alone, I would give Boon a 4+. I do not deem it ethical to rate them based on something partly out of their control, so I will give them a 4.
I'll first describe the food, which is the highlight of our experience.
We started with the pan seared calamari salad- a perfect combination of spicy (garlic, chili) and sweet (citrus fruit) over arugula. Really exceptional flavors just dancing together. Our server paired this with a beautiful Chardonnay and allowed us to share a glass. She was perfectly attentive and easygoing throughout our meal. Then, we had the beets with goat cheese and hazelnuts. The hazelnuts were an unexpected delight. Again-delicious! The brussel sprouts are addictive-that's all I need to say-- we almost wanted another order of lemony, garlicky goodness. I drank a delicious Pinot Noir by the glass throughout the rest of the meal. We shared the fried chicken with slaw and sweet potato mash--sounds as decadent and delicious as it was, but nothing was overly greasy or too rich. Our server closed the meal for us with blueberry panacotta. We had pannacotta the night before at Applewood, so we smiled when we saw it (we asked her to surprise us) but it was far better that Applewood's version. We gave her a 40% tip because she was everything you would want in a server. She shared her world with us and was informative, not overly attentive. She is a natural.
The negative:
My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 7 year anniversary with an intimate dinner at Boon (we had been celebrating since we arrived with a dinner at Applewood, a stay there and we're moving onto Yountville tomorrow.) The restaurant was half full when we came in, no small feat in this area during the slow winter season. There was a large party of 6 men seated on the opposite side of us. They were enjoying themselves, which made the place feel lively at first, but then they became obnoxious as one of them began taking flash photography and they just got louder and more drunk. In a small restaurant with others dining, it really felt intrusive to see a flash- like lightening- occur every few minutes. To add to the intrusive feeling building, the photographer in the large party came over to our table, interrupting our meal, drunkenly asking my boyfriend if he was a model. Before he fully answered, the photographer rattled off his accounts (including $ made-how tacky!) and dropped a card dripping with mediocre, stereotypical fashion photography. He began reciting a tired monologue that we are all too familiar with as New Yorkers who have modeled and worked in fashion. It left a sour taste in both of our mouths in spite of the stellar meal. He did not introduce himself during his monotonous drone, so we tried to humanize the negative experience and introduce ourselves. That made him go away at least.
This affects my experience at the restaurant because our wonderful server 1. allowed the party in question full reign over the tiny restaurant and 2. In spite of being absolutely lovely, she was fraternizing with them, sitting with their party as we left the restaurant. As we left, the drunk photographer slurred that my boyfriend was beautiful. Our server, sensing an uncomfortable moment, courteously said that I was equally beautiful, as she sat at the loud party's table. It was an awkward way to leave an excellent meal. We smiled, but in retrospect, it was uncomfortable, both because the sleazy, unexceptional photographer rudely interrupted our meal and our absolutely lovely server appeared bosom buddies with them. We left feeling cheapened by the experience.
We will come back to Boon sometime in the future for the food in spite of a meal nearly ruined, partly by coincidence and partly by bad management of the situation in allowing one larger party to negatively dominate the small space and the other smaller parties' experiences.
Carlos, your card is going in the trash. I hope you learn some manners someday and some editing skills for your business card shaped like a bookmark. We probably won't stay at Boon's hotel because we overheard our server telling them to go. That's not the environment or crowd we court, especially not when we're trying to get away from it all. -

I've always loved Boon Eat + Drink. Now that I have a cabin in Guerneville I get to enjoy it regularly. The music is always great, never Muzac or soft jazz. The wait staff is uniformly friendly and knowledgable about the wide array of local wines they serve. And of course the food is really great and fresh. I love dropping in for a Boon burger. When ever I have guests I bring them to show off the best food in west county.

San Francisco, CA
The night was beautiful, it was my first time to the magical Guerneville, and I had had one too many glasses of wine at Big Bottom Cafe before getting seated at Boon. To be pithy: we had a great time! And, I recommend it to YOU, yelp reader, because, even without the above qualifiers, Boon is a fine restaurant.
It's nice that everything is local, farm-to-table, yadda yadda (oh how we are spoiled in the Bay Area), but what really stood out for me with this restaurant was the food quality and presentation. He had the halibut; I had a calamari salad and mac & cheese with mushrooms. Everything was well prepared and subtley flavored. My only regret is not ordering some more of the dishes -- particularly the brussels sprouts and the beet salad.
The crowd appeared to be a mix of dates and groups of friends having dinner after a day of wine tasting. At 24, we were likely the youngest couple in the restaurant. Be advised that we went early (6:30ish) on a Saturday without a res and had a half hour wait before being seated.
If you make it to Guerneville (do it!), I recommend giving Boon a shot. -

Best place to eat in Guerneville, hands down. There may be a wait, but if you let the waitress know after you add yourself to the list, you can wait in the bar next store.
My only complaint is that for $15, the meat and cheese platter is one of the weakest plates I've seen in that category in a long while. Not much on it, high price...could be a bit better ($15 for tiny pieces of cheese, three slices of meat...yaaa...). Other than that, the food and service was excellent. I recommend. -

Definitely a must-visit when heading out to Guerneville, CA. There isn't much in this small town except for locals consisting of hippies and cast-a-ways, along with tourists from all over, river-goers and bears galore.
Boon Eat + Drink serves up a limited menu for brunch but it was tasty and not expected from this small secluded town. Try out the baked eggs or french toast wish are sure to tantalize all your taste-buds. the wait staff is friendly but the wait itself can be lengthy once sat so make sure to order a good drink and enjoy your company. -
Review from David S.
Napa, CA
Went here with my girlfriend the other night. First impression wow this place is small. Ten or so small tables and a small, sense a theme? eating bar. The place was packed to the gills with a big crowd standing around outside.
Luckily for us we were the only two top waiting to be seated and we were seated almost immediately. Sadly this put us dead in the middle of a the dinning room, this had us beset on all sides by both servers and customers. Not my favorite way to dine, but it wasn't terrible.
With the place being packed the noise level was pretty high. Usually I loathe loud restaurants, I like being able to hear the people I'm dinning with, but somehow it just seemed to work in Boon. The decor was simple but had nice little touches that made me like it.
Even with the place being packed the service we received was flawless. They gave us our own carafe for water, but we never had a chance to fill out own glasses as the service was so spot on. I was very impressed how even with a full house the servers kept things running smoothly.
We were super hungry and decided to order two appetizers. We got the burrata with beet pesto and the truffle fries. Both were quite good
I love burrata, it might be my favorite cheese, this was a very good example of it. Great taste and texture, it could have been a bit creamier however. The beet pesto was a new concept to me. I hesitate to call it a pesto because it has next to nothing in common with a standard pesto. It was however delicious and actually upstaged the burrata. Where this dish falls down to me was the fact that they serve it with two rather small slices of grilled bread, We could have used at least double the bread for all the burrata they gave us. It's a minor quibble, but it really did dampen my enthusiasm for the dish.
When the truffle fries came out I was less than impressed. They were pretty thick cut, and I find that for truffle fries a thin cut is generally best as the thicker fries tend to make the dish taste bland. In this case I was happily surprised. The fries were cooked perfectly, just the right ratio of crispy to potatoey I'm looking for, this is almost unheard of. The fries were served with a house made ketchup and a garlic aioli. I am not a ketchup person at all, I almost never use it and would have skipped it here if my GF hadn't made try it. Man would I have missed out. If all ketchup was like this I would put it on almost everything. The garlic aioli was good as well, but it had nothing on that ketchup.
For our mains I ordered the Herb Roasted Chicken and the GF ordered some a slow braised pork dish that was served over polenta. The presentation on both of the dishes was outstanding and really made you want to dive right in.
My chicken was an airline breast (wing on) and was served over toasted farro with grilled radicchio on the side. The chicken was perfectly cooked, super juicy with just the right amount of crispness on the skin. I adore farro and this presentation was spot on. The radicchio tasted burned, which was odd because it wasn't. Maybe the grill imparted the flavor via something burning below it. Sadly it was basically inedible. The chicken and farro more than made up for it and the dish was still a winner.
I didn't get to try much of the pork dish, my GF gave me a small piece to try, and the look on her face told me not to ask for any more. Luckily for me, and unluckily for her, she forgot her left overs at my house and I got to eat them the next day. Even reheated this dish was great. The polenta was very creamy and perfectly seasoned, so often I find it to be under seasoned. The pork itself was melt in your mouth tender and tasted sublime.
Though we were both heading quickly towards stuffed we had to try dessert. She ordered a peach and berry cobbler and I got the buttermilk panna cotta. I don't like peach, so I only tried a small bite of the cobbler topping, but it was really good.
The panna cotta sounded really intriguing to me. First off I'd never heard of a buttermilk panna cotta so I was already interested, then I saw that it was served with a blueberry thyme compote and I had to have it. The panna cotta was so silky smooth and the slight tartness from the buttermilk perfectly accented the sweetness of the blueberry compote. The thyme brought an interesting counterpoint to the compote and was a welcome addition.
Boon eat & drink is a great place to eat. The food and service are wonderful. It is well worth braving the crowd and loudness when the experience is this good -

BOON
Summer time in San Francisco can be quite deceiving. I usually refer to the weather here as schizophrenic, where it could be totally sunny and nice one minute and then freezing the next. It's a world cast in a constant state of fall, with a warm day here and there.
Luckily, it's located with great accessibility to warmer more typical California places. In fact, if you drive north for an hour and a half you can make it all the way to the Russian River. This past weekend I went with a bunch of friends up to Guernville to experience what summer felt like (I was beginning to forget).
In addition to poolside lounging, kayaking down the river, and a random fire spinner performance, there are a few good eats out there. This weekend we had a particularly yummy time at a place called Boon.
The decor is simplistic. Hardwood slab table tops with a light grey wall. Very small narrow space with a wooden ceiling. Cute, but also edgy, and a little bit of a departure from typical resort town restaurants.
The menu was simple and rather tasty. On their site they boast "we also use hormone-free, antibiotic-free and sustainably-raised meats as much as possible based on availability and pricing. our menu is simple and tasty. it is comprised of small plates, charcuterie, artisan cheeses, panini, salads, and seasonal main dishes. we proudly serve only russian river wines and micro brews from sonoma and mendocino county."
The food was rather fresh. I had the pork belly for dinner, and was really glad about the decision. The wine selection was well edited, making a selection easy and quick.
I was also impressed by the staff. We, a group of 6, wanted to sit outside. They told us it would be a 45 minute wait, so we went for cocktails down the street. The host actually went out to find us when they were ready.
The only improvement I can suggest would be the addition of a fan on the interior! We almost took a table inside when we first got there, but it was SO hot and the interior was burning up.
Other than that, highly suggested! -
