I love this place! Their curry is perfect. So far I have tried the red, yellow and panang

and I have not been dissapointed at all. The price is good for the amount of food you

get and the food has been fresh every time have eaten here. The location itself is

clean and usually pretty empty which is odd because their food is amazing.

The only downside is the parking lot which is really wierd and small but maybe thats

    why people choose delivery LOL.

I'm always sad when I come to eat here and don't see anyone else. I've been enjoying absolutely delicious Thai food from Boon Boon for two years now, and after trying over half the menu, I still haven't been disappointed.

I'll be honest, the spaghetti is one of the last things I tried. Why would I buy spaghetti at a Thai restaurant? Well, it's now a regular dish I order, and it's some of the best spaghetti I've ever had. Boon Boon has a way of taking standard dishes and throwing in a certain "Thai flare" that makes their food so tasty.

The staff has always been extremely friendly and accommodating, even for odd customize orders and portions for various parties I've had. Can't recommend this place enough, and I hope they stay in business!

The location is weird, parking is a little goofy but the place is clean, fun and not crowded.  You just have to be okay eating there otherwise they do a good delivery service within 3 miles and you can eat wherever.

I've been there about three times now and I have never had a dish I didn't really enjoy.  I've had the 8 hour pork and it was delicious.  I've had the Red Curry and loved it, i've had the satay and the pot stickers all of which were great.

Some people had noted they were the only people in the restaurant and I've never been alone there, though it's never been packed either.  The location is by far their biggest flaw, the food is all good and consistently good every time I've eaten there.  The main menu is Thai but the portions are generous and the prices are low.  The food is always tasty and fresh.  While it might have been lonely to some I found it charming and tasty.  Enough that I will continue to go there as well as ordering food for delivery.

If you want spaghetti and meatballs delivered to your house, you found the right place to order from - I found it strange to find this item on the menu.  Maybe they found a need and they're just trying to meet it!

I had the Chicken Tom Yum Gui and it was great. It was delivered hot with a bunch of mushrooms crowding the top of my soup - floating together like the boats in Discovery Park during summer weekends. There is a good amount of chicken and onion hiding in the deep of the soup.  I don't like white meat, but I know most of you do - and there is thinly sliced breast meat just for you.

They make you order at least $20 if they are to deliver - so I ordered with 3 other people, who got three other dishes and there wasn't a complaint heard.

Popped in for lunch one day after seeing repeated rave reviews on here. I wasn't really impressed or underwhelmed - it's fine. A pretty typical Thai-ish, family-run cafe. The menu is a little weird to me; a few basic Thai dishes and a smattering of Chinese and Americanese offerings. The food was decent, though when my dining companion ordered something "Thai hot," it came out more what I would consider medium.  It's definitely not bad, but it's far enough off my beaten path that I probably won't seek it out unless it just works out that way. Plus, just a little farther down the road and you can get some seriously good and authentic Asian food.

March 4.  Dinner.  First, this is NOT a Chinese restaurant as advertised.  It is Thai Food with American dishes.

I was disappointed because the 8-Hour Slow Roasted Pork was served with potatoes and not rice.  The dish itself was so-so.  The pork had the texture of carnitas.  I had to add siracha to it to add flavor and spice as it was a little dry in parts.

Atmosphere inside restaurant is good.  Clean.

But,  this is not a safe location.  The parking lot is dark and there were a few addicts and homeless hanging out on  the Broadway side of restaurant.  If I ever went again, which I won't, I'd go in the daytime.  And I would not bring my kids.

A reviewer complained about the location because it's a bit sketch, but come on, what do you expect when you're eating at a location on Stockton & Broadway? lol

First off, I hate crowds and this place was empty when I came in for lunch. Awesome. Secondly, SUPER clean and spacious. Like really, really clean. Having worked with food before, that's a major factor for me. Super fast + nice enough service. Good food - wasn't great, but wasn't bad either.

This is specifically a Thai restaurant, the Asian Fusion tag on this yelp page is a little misleading.

Came here a week ago with my sister and the place was dead! I thought it was closed at first but it was Sunday evening and we couldn't decide or find too many places open so we just went in.

Despite us being the only customers, the wait for the food was longer than expected. I got drunken noodles and my sis got fried chicken and fries. Both were okay but I think what put me off the most was the quiet, lonely atmosphere. I feel like its never a good sign when you're the only customer dining.

Waitress was nice and attentive though and menu looked good. I would try it again but only if it had more business.

This place was average.  The food was good, the staff nice, but there was nothing memorable about it.  It makes a great place to grad a good fast meal if you are near the hospital.

I went twice while I was there visiting family in the hospital, and I would go back.

I found this restaurant to be just okay. Though I enjoyed sitting and listening to The Girl From Ipanema while drinking my Thai iced tea, I was freezing my ass off. Maybe I should have ordered hot tea then?

I ordered the Spicy Drunken Noodles which were pretty good but I felt the veggies were a bit undercooked. The Spicy Noodle soup, in my opinion, was disgusting. I don't hold that against the restaurant or anything, I just didn't enjoy the flavors at all.

I would probably return if I were in the area because the duck curry sounds pretty good. But in reality I won't likely be back in the area.

Eh, don't know why others are giving it such a big hype.  We ordered the green curry, garlic pork, green bean and the famous crab fried rice.  The fried rice was definitely not all that great!

I'm not sure if I'd come back anytime soon, but they do have great lunch deals!

Crab Fried Rice ($12.95): Wow, so good! It has a unique, sort of sweet flavor. I've never had fried rice like this before. A few too many onion slivers and a bit pricey, but I wouldn't think twice about ordering it again.

Drunken Noodles with beef ($8.95): Good, but not special. Too many bell peppers and onions and the beef was overcooked.

Mango Sticky Rice ($5.50): Sweet sauce, but the rice was a strange texture (old maybe?) and the mango wasn't sweet/ripe. I still finished the entire serving.

Parking: Very small lot, but there's additional parking further back.

Overall, I'm a fan and will be back.

Just for the heck of it, I ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs from this Thai restaurant. Wow! It was so good! The sauce and meatballs were prefect. Everytime I order, I try something new. However, I can't resiste the Crispy Shrimp Rolls. This I must have every time. They are good sized and never greasy.

My last order consisted of Tom Kha Gai soup which was very bland. I also ordered the Poached Salmon and found it very dry and tasteless. The salmon was baked or grilled in aluminum floil, not poached. For dessert I tried the Sweet milk Roti and found a new favorite. Yummy without being too sweet.

On my list to try is the Chicken Samosa, Fried Gyoza, and the Calamari basket. I am very particular when it comes to calamari, so we will see. I really want to try their 8 Hours Roasted Pork, Super Crab Fried Rice,
Yellow Curry Chicken (I am a wimp and can't handle spicy hot stuff), Crab Salad, and the Mango Sticky Rice.

Most of all, I love that they deliver! I broke my ankle and this is one of the few places you can order from and have it delivered. That is very important when you are confined to your house. Believe me on this if nothing else!

    Ta!

p.s. The people are super nice!

I adore Boon Boon and love that they deliver in Oak Park, not many will.  i have enjoyed many items of their hugely eclectic menu.  I like that you can order brown rice as well as white.  The Thai Iced teas are a deal.  The lunch specials extremely inexpensive and all is tasty.  You don't get the salad when you order the lunch special to go though.  The menu appears to be pan-Asian including Thai, Indian, Chinese, Korean and more.  This is also a great place to bring vegans or vegetarians, due to the numerous tofu dishes.

Not in the best neighborhood, but it is a diamond in the rough. There's an article by Sac Bee on the wall featuring the little Thai cafe that's got some great tasting food. We went the other day, my 2 boys and I, and enjoyed the green curry and my 2yo's favorite "noo-dles" or Pad Thai. It was WONDERFUL. Lunch specials are $6.95 and a Thai iced tea for $2.50 brought our lunch to around $20. Can't beat it. There weren't many people there and the waitress was pleasant and attentive. We'll be back to try more on the menu!

Hell yeah... a total hole in the wall restaurant.

Boon Boon Cafe, located  little bit pass the UC Davis Medical Center tucked inside some alley-like area with stores. Clearly, this restaurant main customers are staff from the hospital and caters to them very well with their lunch meal deals and delivery option.

All my experience with Boon Boon is strictly based lunch menu togos.

I was not too surprised by their egg rolls, which probably came in a frozen packet from some asian supermarket. And not so fond of their pad thai, which was too dry and way too sweet for my taste. Plus, when I think of pad thai, I think of a balance between sweet and sour. Yet, Boon Boon's pad thai did not satisfy this criteria. 1 star for both.

One of my favourites, their lunch menu yellow curry chicken comes with rice, which I usually make two meals out of it: lunch at work and dinner at home. Tasty. I give it 4 stars.

Overall, I've only tried three dishes from Boon Boon and I stacked to what I enjoyed best - yellow curry chicken.

FINALLY tried this place yesterday for lunch and have only one regret: that I didn't try it sooner.

The outside of the building is just adorable, and inside is bright and spacious. The service was prompt, friendly, and casual.

We ordered Paprika Fries, Pan Fried Garlic Tofu with Veggies, Veggie Fried Rice, and Veggie Green Curry.

The Veggie Green Curry was by far my favorite. I ordered it veggie so my husband could try some, but I'd really like to try it with chicken sometime. The veggies in all three dishes were still a little crispy and looked really fresh. Nothing ruins a dish like overdone, smelly vegetables. The fried rice was a little stickier than I had hoped, but still good. The sauce on the Garlic Tofu was perfectly garlicky without being too salty. The fries themselves were okay, but didn't have much personality. The amount of paprika and salt on them made them hard to eat after a few fries. I would get the fries again, but only to share with more people than just the two of us.

The price was fair and we will definitely be back. I saw an asparagus and shrimp special that I'd love to try next time. I also feel like I should try their spaghetti and meatballs at some point just because it's the total oddball dish on the menu.

Another huge perk, we found out that they deliver to our house for free!

I love coming to Boon Boon Cafe, first glance you'll probably wouldn't want to check it out because it looks totally off. I mean why walk in to a restaurant if the outside looks that tacky? But once you walk through the doors you'll find that it's very modern and nice inside.

The service is good, and the the water is tasty. They put mint and green apple in their water and it's something I appreciate very much because it's very thoughtful of them to do something that like for their customers instead of just giving us tap water like all the other restaurants.
One of my all time favorite dishes would have to be the Green Curry. It's perfect! They also have a very good lunch special going on Monday-Friday for about $6.75 that comes with a side of salad. Boon Boon Cafe mainly serves Thai food but they do have a little of everything. Chinese, Korean and America. I'm sure even the pickiest eaters would find something they enjoy at Boon Boon Cafe.

This place has very good Thai food. I love their cashew nut chicken and yellow curry. Customer service is especially good. I always take to go because of its proximity to the UCDMC and I always am treated with a smile and good service.

The only disadvantage I can see with this is it's location. While it is close to the UCDMC, the surrounding areas are not very good. Just the other day, I parked my car and walked towards the place when this guy approached me and asked me to buy his tennis shoes for $10 so he can get bus fare.

    Be careful but great food.

I adore this place in particular because they deliver to my house. If you are within a 3-mile radius and order $20 worth of food, you too can have pad thai delivered to your house! Absolutely wonderful.

Eating at the place itself is good too. The parking lot is not as bad as people say. If you can't find one right in front of the door just keep going and you'll see a big open lot with more than a dozen spots.

Food's good. Staff is friendly. Lunch special rocks. It's an asset to the neighborhood.

Worst Thai food for the price. Got the crab fried rice to go and only got an individual sized amount for 15$$. For that price I should be able to feed at least 2 people. Not worth it! Didn't even give me utensils or sauces. Crab was sweet and the rice was covered in lemon juice, rice was under cooked, that's just weird to me.

Never again. Because of this restaurant I trust yelp reviews less. This is not a 4 star.

This is seriously a hole in the wall place. In the ghettos of south Sac, I was like.."ummmmm, yeah. my car better be worth the food." And luckily it was! My cousin and I feasted on spicy basil beef, pumpkin curry, and pad thai.

Spicy Basil Beef- We requested it to be medium spicy, but it wasn't spicy period. So if you want some kick to it, ask for hothot spicy since I think their spice factor is based on white ppl hot. This dish was pleasantly sweet--not what I was expecting--but it was easily the best dish that we had.

Pad Thai- Amazing portion was served, just the way I like it. It just seems like at any other thai place, there would be shrimp, some peanut garnish, and lime wedge in pad thai, but in this case, there wasn't. There was mainly chicken and sprouts. The flavor was awesome though.

Pumpkin Curry- At first all I thought there would be was pumpkin in this dish. Nope! There was shrimp, bell peppers, and green beans! Hooray for a little mix-it-up! This dish was ok, not as amazing as other reviews made it out to be.

When ordering, our server gave us her opinion on how our original order would not complement each other very well and gave helpful suggestions to make our meal more pleasant tastebud-wise. So that was appreciated. A drawback though was even though only 2 other tables were occupied, she started boxing up our food when we were still eating....that was kind of wierd. I mean, it wasn't like there were other ppl waiting for a table.... but it wasn't that big a deal though.

In terms of Asian food in Sacramento, Boon Boon is the very first place I recommend. I've just been totally enamored by this restaurant. It's quiet, calm, has excellent service and oh man, the food is just phenominal.

Though I believe it is seasonal, they often have a pumpkin red curry on special. It's just so good. So good that I had to learn to make it myself at home (it's actually pretty easy!). Their pineapple rice is also a smart choice. The two entrees together can be quite elating.

Also, the water they serve is not infused with kiwi, it's infused with green apple.

I must say that I am a person who tends to judge books by their covers. However, with this place you must not do that! Located on the corner of Alahambra and Stockton Blvd, you will find the ugliest pastel green and pink colored building known to man. Welcome, you have found Boon Boon Cafe!

My dad and I went here for lunch on Monday, originally wanting to go to Harry's Cafe but were unaware that it is closed on Mondays, we decided to try something new. The prices are pretty good, they have a lunch menu were the food is $6.95 and a pretty good selection. I for one, always get curry when I go to a Thai restaurant. I have a theory, if you compare the same item of food between restaurants that is how you will find the best place. With that said, the Curry was delicious :) My dad had the Korean BBQ pork, and that was pretty good too...

One thing I did notice, there are 2 workers. One is the waitress and the other is probably the owner. She does all the work and he smiles..the restaurant gets packed pretty fast, so if your going to go during lunch get there by 12!!

All in all, very good experience!

After I meal here with three other coworkers, I had to question myself...."am I high maintenance? am I picky?" after a short car ride back pondering the answers to these questions, I arrived at work and realized no Yes I am high maintenance. Yes I am picky. Did those play a factor into how much the food here was garbage? NO.

fellow yelpers I must implore an update from someone who is a regular. I must go update myself cus the meals I had was GARBAGE!

I never have left a restaurant thinking... fast food was a better choice... UNTIL todayy!!!

my spicy korean pork was beyond bland, garlic pork was bland, spicy thai beef basil was tooo sweet and tasted and looked like broken up hamburger pattie....

maybe it was lunch... maybe my hunger was impeding my taste buds...maybe it was a bad reccomendation from another co-worker... whatever it was this place was bad...

even did not enjoy the customer service, only person that was good was the old lady there, she was on top of the water service and the salads!

oh to one of the waitresses working: please dont wear short short skirts, when things drop off tables and inevitably they do at a restaurant, you are gonna have to bend down to pick it up and everyone can and will peep ur knickers.

I feel like i am the only one who thinks this way about this place and i'll try again but right now this is a 1 star friends. good day to you all.

I always thought I didn't like curry until I came to Boon Boon. Oh  man, I love curry. Or maybe l just love Boon Boon's curry. All I know is I come wanting noodles and leave talking about how much I love curry.

Boon Boon is like a little hidden gem. It's tucked behind a Subway in an ugly stripmall which apparently is in Oak Park. Yeah, I said Oak Park - so what? I've never felt unsafe at or near Boon Boon.

The interior is simple and comfortable. Usually the owner or one of her family members will be behind the counter or coming in and out. The family and the hired servers are always warm and pleasant and hapy to serve you. The servers and chef are also happy to accomodate special diets or requests.

The chef takes care with her food, doesn't use MSG, and thinks about nutrition and what's in season. And she makes it taste so good! I'm not a huge fan of "fusion" menus, but as long as it tastes good, I really don't care of there are things other than Thai food on the menu. Don't neglect the daily specials board. Last night we had a red pumpkin curry and it was one of the best things I've tried there.

It's important to me to support local family-owned businesses. Boon Boon is owned and operated by a sweet, generous, hard-working family. Even if the food were mediocre I'd probably keep coming back just to support a family business that I respect. But since the food is so good, it makes it even easier to come back and to recommend it to others.

Only Thai food that delivers; that would get old if the food was not great. However, it is.

This is the best Thai food in the central city, and no, they don't adherer to  traditional recipes.

ok, I call these guys and get amazing Pad Se Ew, all kinds of curry, hella soup.  The chicken Larb is the best I've had.  They do Samosa's.

The quality standard is very high, and when it comes to Asian food, we all know that is important.

Just when I thought I was cool for having "discovered" this place... I guess I was two weeks late out of the womb, so I'm destined to be late to everything.

The BF have scoured the city for good Thai food in the past few years and have been relatively satisfied with our findings.  After a few months working downtown and countless business lunches, each of us suffered from sort of a Thai numbness.  Boon Boon, however, reawakened our love of Thai.  BF has always loved yellow curry, which he had stopped ordering for a while; Boon Boon does it ALL right, balancing flavors perfectly as a result of painstakingly delicious research at Thai restaurants around the city.  Though we were equally excited about the crab fried rice, we decided against it.  I dallied in the red curry beef.  The rich, complex sauce made me want to stuff myself with curry-soaked rice even after the "good stuff" was gone.

I think Asian Fusion is a bit of a misnomer in this case.  I realize that they served Asian food as well as different types of food, but I don't recall any cuisines being fused into single dishes.  What I saw was a variety of dishes from different parts of the world because the chef has a "do what you know" attitude toward serving food.  Apparently, from what I've heard from those who have actually tried the non-Thai food, the chef is learned indeed.

The staff is, for lack of better terms, SUPER NICE.  It was a typical May afternoon, and the BF and I had our dog with us.  There was no shade to park under, so instead of moving my car over to the Food Source parking lot, we asked the staff if we could bring the little mutt inside.  They were really cool about it - our waitress set up an umbrella on the patio for lil' doggie to stay under, and when she started barking out of separation anxiety, they didn't break a sweat moving us to a table on the patio.  They even offered a small bowl of water for her to drink out of!  Based on their initial reaction, I'm sure this wasn't standard procedure for them, so I really appreciate their hospitality!

Placed in the windows at Boon Boon are 2 wood carvings: 1 says "Family" and the other says "Laugh." These positive and warm words reflect the feelings I had when I left Boon Boon, a unique little Thai Fusion restaurant tucked behind Subway on the corners of Broadway and Stockton Blvd.

The owners are actively involved in the customer experience, and this is reflected by the message on the back of the menu, the welcoming service, and the engaging and evolving items on the menu.

Apparently one of the grandparents grew up in Copehagen, while their grandmother Mama Pranee (who makes a lot of the food, including the noodles, from scratch) was born and raised in Thailand. This intersection of cultures making for some damn good eating! The menu includes traditionally European dishes like Spaghetti and Meatballs, and then some Thai Fusion dishes like a wonderful ground beef dish that was simmered in garlic, sweet basil, red and green bell peppers, vinegar and tomatoes - my dining companion said it was like a Thai Stroganoff. We also had some chicken, spinach and broccoli cooked with peanut sauce.

The best dish by far however was the green papaya salad. An unripened papaya was cut into thin strings and tossed with an unusual mix of sweet, spicy and sour. It also featured a splash of fish sauce, which gave it a savory taste.

Beyond the good food, this is a place that deserves success. They are good people operating an honest business, and I would love to see them take off. I know I will be back very soon though, because the Crab Fried Rice, made with whole lumps of real crab, was calling my name!

Since the small sign appeared in the corner window of this restaraunt a few weeks ago my husband and I have been wanting to stop in.  Boon boon is kind of hard to see from the street if you're not looking for it - it's behind the Subway at the corner of Broadway and Stockton in the same strip mall that has a nail salon and a hair place.

When we came in on a Saturday night at 8 there was another customer who was finishing up his meal.  The place is quite large and the music was barely audible and I could hear him say that the food was great and he's be back for lunch again.  That was a good sign.

We ordered one appetizer and two dishes to share:

Samosas - 2 small samosas cut in half and placed on some shredded carrots on top of drizzled chili and sweet sauce.  They were tasty but not outstanding.

Spicy basil beef - minced beef and peppers with basil in a spicy brown garlic sauce and a serving of rice.  It was delicious and a nice change to the usual beef strips used in Asian dishes.  You can specify how mild or hot you'd like the dish.

Crab fried rice - it's one of their feature dishes and the most expensive at $12.95, which is still reasonable for a tasty pile of eggy, crabby [lump crab], rice.  It wasn't greasy at all and came with a few slices of tomato and cucumber.

The menu items vary from Asian to American to Danish according to the little bio on the back of the menu.  Prices range from $2.95 for soup to $12.95 for the specialty items.  Average entree prices are $7.95.

Service was exceptional.  Our server was very friendly, knowledgeable and genuinely interested in what we thought of the restaurant and the food.  I'm super excited to have found this place.  Now I won't have to drive very far down Stockton to get some tasty Asian food.

True, the parking is really bad. The entrance from Stockton is really narrow.. but if you come from the back, parking is much easier.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was that the restaurant is very spacious. There was a board that had all sorts of post-its written by customers giving their recommendations, which was really neat.

The menu is divided by category and there are tons of pictures of entrees. Just because of the pictures, I am going to order the pork next time. It looks and sounds delicious.

There were two people in the front, male and female. Both were extremely nice and helpful. I was even given a glass of water while I waited for my order.

While I was waiting, a man came in and said he had reserved a table for at least 15-20 people. Immediately the guy got to work setting up the tables and had a very good attitude while doing so. I know I'd be a creeper if I had to serve such a large party.

There are so many options to choose from on this menu it was hard not to order one of everything.

I decided to order the crab fried rice, which I read about on yelp..Sesame chicken, which is a regular on the menu and yakisoba chicken, which was one of the specials for the day.

I did not like the crab rice.. I am sure it is probably very good, but each person has different likes and dislikes. Unfortunately it was not for me, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it.

The sesame chicken was very nice. A very thin batter, if batter at all. The chicken was moist too. And just a light amount of sauce. This was a very nice alternative to the everyday sesame chicken which is coated in thick hard batter and drenched in sauce.

The yakisoba chicken was very pleasant. Tons of noodles, cabbage, carrots, celery, chicken and garlic. I am sure there are other things but I just don't remember. The sauce was nice. Kind of tangy, yet sweet.
    .
So some pretty good food and excellent service makes for a happy customer that is willing to return to try other things.

Man, so disappointed.  I thought this place was really good from everyone's high ratings.. but I guess my taste buds are COMPLETELY different from theirs.

My friends and I wanted some sort of Asian food--and I wanted to try something new in Sac.  First of all, we had a REALLY hard time locating the place.  We had to make two U-turns because we couldn't see where it was but we knew the number.  The sign or should I say "banner" was half way up.  Ahhhh, no wonder it was a hit or miss.  Anyways, got in.. and to our surprise, we were the ONLY ones there.  LOL.  Whooop, hella crackin'!!  The place was decent size--for some reason it reminded my friend of a Salon.

The menu had everything.  Thai, Korean BBQ, Japanese, Meatballs, Chinese.  Hmmmm, I think they couldn't decide what style to serve.  LOL.  I ordered the Papaya Salad.  Ahhh, too salty.  The sauce got me drinking my glass of H2O every time I take a bite--plus it was spicy (I only ordered regular/mild spicy but that was pretty damn spicy!).  My friend ordered the Param Chicken.  THICK ass sauce.  A lot of flavor but tasted a lil funny--still cant figure out what it is.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the-best-I've-ever-tasted-good!  And my other friend ordered the Pad Thai.  Hmm, very bland--where's the peanut sauce?!?!??!  Each plate was $7.95.  Not too bad.  BUT... I don't think I'll EVER go here again.  Sorry, but I've DEFINITELY had better.

This restaurant is a must whether you like Thai food or not.
My recommendations would be the Tom Ka Gai.  It is a coconut milk soup with mushrooms, chicken and lemongrass.  It is delicious and fresh.  People normally order the pad thai and drunken noodles and you will definitely not be disappointed here.  You will probably want to continue to eat even if you are full.  It is that good.

They used to have a mint/kiwi non-alcoholic drink here that was so refreshing but it may only be in the kiwi season months because I have not seen any advertising for this recently.

The location doesn't seem to be the greatest and may be hard to find, but once you do, it is well worth it.

I am being generous by giving Boon Boon Cafe 4 stars when I really feel it deserves 3 for a couple of reasons.

My cohorts and I ordered delivery to our work for lunch today.  Despite the inconvenient fiasco from order-to-delivery that delayed our lunches by 45 minutes, I must say that I would eat from here again.  I would choose to dine-in or do a to-go order, but not delivery :-{  Since they are new, I understand there are kinks to work out.  I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

Because I am historically a budget-eater, the amount of food received for what we all paid for each dish, I was expecting more.  I don't like feeling hungry two hours after a meal and sometimes I would like leftovers.  But that's just me:  La Cheapatita.  The chicken samosas were miniscule, and the spring rolls were tiny and my Swedish meatballs were lacking.

The big Big BIG positive was that everything tasted delicious and fresh!!!!!  My papaya salad was so crisp, yummy, and flavorful and it's bite kept me munching on and on (wish there was more since I paid $8!)  I tried my coworkers yellow curry and wish I could have sampled more, because it was so creamy and mellow.  My other coworker adored her fried egg rolls, despite them being 2.5" long ($5 for 4.)  I didn't get to try another's green curry, nor the sauteed veggies and brown rice, but I heard them maw their appreciation.  Their little version of baby samosas were filled with righteously seasoned chicken and came with a lovely sweet chili sauce.

HOWeverrrrr...I ordered the Swedish meatballs with fries and gravy.  Ummm, where was my freakin gravy?  How can one eat Swedish meatballs without the gravy?  I was pissed.  The fries had this neat seasoning on it (maybe paprika) so those were good on it's own.  The meatballs were tender and had a nice flavor, but dang, I really was missing the gravy.  I felt sorry for my eating mates because I kept cussing about my gravy-less state.

Next time I eat there, I am looking forward to trying the crab fried rice that everybody is raving about.  I also want to sample the soups and desserts.  Note to self for future reference:  don't expect a ton of food and be sure to open your wallet a little wider.

I ordered take out from here and it was yummy! I got the red curry which came with rice and I ate all of it. I haven't tried anything else but the curry was very flavorful and on par with other Thai places I've had. For the price, I think it's a great deal!

The trip from your car to the door might be interesting - this is ground zero Oak Park - but once inside the restaurant is big, nicely decorated, and very clean.  Had the panang beef curry and the wife had the pork bulgogi.  My wife loved hers, mine was good, but not great.  The Thai ice tea was very good.  For the price the meat-dish-plus-rice ($7-$9 a plate) wasn't a great value - so Boon Boon lost a star.  At $2 the tea was mid-low priced, which was good.  Out-the-door for the meals and two teas plus tip was $25.

On the other hand, the menu is different that usual - not just Thai - they have all sorts of stuff - paprika french fries, chicken samosa, spaghetti and meatballs, tom kha gai soup, and pho for example.

Finally, one more star was lost for ambience - the somewhat loud music was the worst elevator muzak destroyed collection of classical and soft-pop I have EVER heard.  It was so bad we were laughing about it as we ate.  I don't think humor was what they were going for - maybe they are just completely tone deaf - I don't know.

By Asian Fusion, I think they meant Thai-with-other-random-food. At 6:30pm on a Thursday, this place had ZERO customers, kinda scary right? The two ladies serving us (a.k.a. the delivery girl, the chef, and the owners) were extremely friendly though.

Boon Boon might be a nice change from your traditional Thai. Here, they serve braised pork and some random Korean BBQ stuff (hmm.. sketchy/random), blueberry cheesecake, and profiteroles (weird... I think they're from Costco). Just don't expect much else "International"-ness about this Asian Fusion restaurant.
