Upland, CA
I love this place...I always stop here when going to Union Station and grab their green tea and bagel sandwich. Yummy! The atmosphere is great with lots of little art to stare at and magazines to glance through. My ONLY recommendation for this place is that they need the Mini Minit to-go tea filters for their to-go organic tea. I HATE that if I get a to-go tea, instead of the organic tea I get to select from, I have to end up getting a tea bag for the same price, which the tea bags I can buy myself at the grocery store for cheap! That really boggles my mind!!!! It's NOT worth it to get tea to-go if you are in a hurry.
I hope the owners read my comment because even my negative comment will help them since overall I love this place. I think I will do one better to help the masses, next time I am there I will mention it to them and give them a sample of the Mini Minit to-go tea filters I get at this damn good tea shop in Venice, CA. Also, they should sell their tea and coffee in to-go bags along with the Mini Minit to-go tea filters so that customers can make their superior tea and coffee at home. The place I am referring to is called Groundwork Coffee....http://www.groundworkcoffee.com/pages/ve nice-on-rose. I mean if boomers can copy that to the Upland IE, that would make them more awesome! For Upland, this place is top notch....for other places I like way more, I give it 4 out of 5 stars!!!!
UPDATE:
By the way, don't listen to Donna V.'s review!!!!!! The fact, as I quote her "...and while I was wearing my OBVIOUS law enforcement uniform" does NOT mean you get special privileges!!!!
Of course the WiFi is free, WITH PURCHASE!!!! It is downright disturbing that you think you deserve SPECIAL treatment just because you are in a law enforcement uniform. You deserve to be treated as any non-paying idiot customer that tries to mooch off of other people! I am GLAD that you will NEVER return so that I will NEVER have the grace of having to run into you and have you cut in line, try to mooch free internet service, or play the "I forgot my wallet, but am in law enforcement so I should get something for nothing because I protect and serve!" All you protect and serve is your own greedy a**. Thanks but no thanks!!!! I hope to run into you NEVER!!! -

This place is really only convenience. The atmosphere is cool and it's in a cool part of town, close to home. The first time I went there, I ordered an italian soda type thing, which was refreshing on a hot day but somewhat bland. Today I walked over there for a coffee and it was $3.75 for a teeny cappuccino, and it was acceptable.
I know I probably sound like I'm whining, but I am accepting of most coffees and it is generally easy to please me with coffee but this one was not satisfying. My cappuccino last night at Euro Cafe was a good bit cheaper, a good bit larger, and a lot better. -

HI! I JUST STEPPED OUTSIDE TO MAKE A PHONE CALL AND THE TRAIN CAME! WOW IS THAT LOUD! WHAT?! WHAT!? HOLD ON! I'M BACK INSIDE NOW! EVERYONE IS STARING AT ME! Oh. You can hear me now? Cool.
I like this place. I don't know why it is called Boomers. Baby-Boomers? Booming train horns?
Anyway, great service, good products, wifi and they open at 5am M-F.
Sweet. As a morning person (early or late thru 'til morn ) I appreciate a coffeehouse that is open with the dawn.
THANKS FOR READING MY REVIEW! WHAT?! I'LL CALL YOU LATER! BYE! -

Best coffeehouse in Upland. Boomers is a great place to bring your laptop and study/write or just hang out with your friends. The retro decor is very welcoming and there's lots of indoor seating. Staff are friendly, too.
Coffee is solid, no frills or gimmicks, just really good. I usually get a plain latte or cappuccino, but I recommend the "dirty chai" (chai latte with a shot of espresso) if you're in the mood for something sweeter and a little different. Their iced drinks are perfect for a hot day. -

Love this place! Started coming here back in 02 when it was located on the other side of the street..I instantly fell in love with not only the drinks but also the staff and the owners. It's such a friendly place..they always welcome you and always seem happy.
To this day I'll always say the chai at boomers is my all time fav.. hot, iced, blended..dirty. love love loveeee the vanilla chai. -

I've always liked the decor here and the coffee is good.
However, I bought a breakfast burrito on a Tuesday, got home and tried it - it was mealy and tasted 'dusty'. I called and asked when the burritos were made and was asked "why?". I told him they tasted grainy and not fresh. He said they should be fine and that they were made Friday. That's over four days old at that point. That means over four day old scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, and salsa. He told me they should be fine and he never had a complaint before.
To his credit, he did give me a refund when I took the rest of the burrito back - all but one bite.
I gave it two stars for good service, great atmosphere, and decent drinks - just make sure the food is fresh before buying. -

Oh, such a cute little place, thankfully, in a not-very-popular part of Upland. Swank and retro--from the sign hanging over the entrance, to the light fixtures, to the 70s furniture.
Comfy, Cozy, Fireplace, Free WIFI, pastries, teas, and coffee.
The only thing that reeks about this very cute little place are the hours. I think they close at 5pm on Weekdays and 3pm on Saturday Sunday.
Boo hoo :( if you want to stay later... then again, it's a coffee shop, not a bar.
Argh! I'm torn between loving that detail or despising it. Okay, okay, I desploves it. -

My favorite thing about Boomers is the convenience to the Metrolink. I really like the kitchy feel, the retro decor and smooth music they typically play. I'm not a fan of the higher prices for the coffee drinks. A single espresso is about $0.50 more than a double at Starbucks. The brewed coffee is overpriced too. I don't mind paying a bit more for quality, but I've seen him run out of coffee, and switch to a stand-by pot. Who knows how long it had been sitting there. Also, I watched someone order a cappucino, and he dosed out previously ground coffee. At the price he's charging, i'd expect each cup to be freshly ground pour-over and each espresso drink to be freshly ground too. This is why the coffee tastes "meh". The baked goods is where this place really shines. I've have a toasted asiago bagel sandwich with black forest ham... Wow! Great way to start your day!

Coolest coffee house in the SGV - with a high yelp rating and a lot of consistant positive reviews I had high expectations when I walked in the door. They were blown away.
I will come here again, and I'll bring my local friends. Super chill & mello. -

In love with Boomers Coffeehouse!
While we'll admit that we've had better coffee, theirs is still dang good given the choices around here. The space is just the best...so quirky and artsy fartsy....reminiscent of the bay area coffee houses that we miss. They also make their own scones and muffins. Will be back to read for pleasure with a cup of coffee soon. -

I live in the "909" San Bernardino County, but as a musician/writer I spend a lot of time in the LA/Hollywood/Pasadena area. I love finding artistic ambient independently owned coffee shops that inspire creativity when I'm out that way because out here in the suburbs we have nothing but Starbucks and other pop cookie cutter products Coffee Shops.
And then there was Boomers
Stupid name (especially because there is a miniature golf course named Boomers two exits away), but inside you have all the makings of an international metropolitan Coffee/Cafe. The front entrance leads to downtown Upland (i use the term "downtown" loosely), and the back entrance is the train depot for the Upland Metro link. This means you have a stead influx of business men, artists, teenagers, college students and everything in between. And although we have the train to thanks for the diversity, the metro commuter target audience also was the owners explanation for the terrible hours: 530-5 on weekdays, 9-2 on saturdays and CLOSED on sundays! But I guess if a Shop's biggest weakness is that it isn't open enough to enjoy it, then that's a good sign.
The food is good. The Coffees and teas are wonderful. Their smoothies are incredible. The downtempo trip hop soundtrack is perfect to keep your mind active (for a musician like me to not immediately put on headphones and enter into my own music collection is testimony of that). But believe it or not the best thing about this place is the furnishing. Apparently the owner collects and sells vintage furniture so all the seats tables and lighting are original "retro." Some even for sale. Again, a perfect atmosphere for creative types.
Overall a wonderful experience. If you can catch Boomers while it's open DO IT. My only concern is that the lack of hours, and monopoly of Starbucks out here in the suburbs might cause this place to quietly succumb to the life draining economic downfall that many other independently owned cafes have ended in. -

What a local coffee joint should feel like! I rarely drink coffee, but I have been known to order hot tea when I go here. Never once have they turned up their noses to me.
Always professional...except maybe once when someone stated that Peter made his peanut butter balls. And then further stated he was rather proud of his balls. I think the conversation took a very funny turn after that, but everyone was laughing!
Seriously though, this is the type of place I would hang out at if it was in my neighborhood. They have an eclectic decor which is reminiscent of my grandma's old Danish style furniture. I especially like the sunburst on the wall! They have board games and an incredible selection of magazines. I typically find recipes that I just wanna steal while sitting there sipping my tea. No worries though...I leave the magazines intact!
I do get to visit occasionally while at work which is really nice. Can't wait for another expresso malted milk ball!!!
***UPDATE***
I thought they were super nice until my encounter with the feisty redhead this afternoon. I was actually treated like a mooching transient and felt more than a little humiliated when she said,"we kinda expect you to buy something if you're going to use the internet!" The best part, I wasn't using their internet. I was typing a document on my laptop for school! I had every intention to buy hot tea as I was so obviously nursing a cold (yuck, nothing worse in summer), but discovered that I had left ALL of my money in my wallet and had only $1 on me. Not even my ATM card was in my pocket.
I normally go in and order my hot tea, always leaving a VERY generous tip. But after being embarrassed by this employee (and while I was wearing my OBVIOUS law enforcement uniform), I don't really feel a need to ever do business there again. I surely would have said something to her had I not been in uniform and had there not been an audience of two other customers sitting within ten feet of me. I guess I could understand it if I appeared to be some dirty, free-loader sort, but never in my life have I ever been treated like that...especially while in uniform. Not that I feel that grants me any special privileges...but seriously??? I have spent more money in that coffee shop in the last year than I have at all of my Starbucks trips combined. And, I don't think anyone at Starbucks would even care if I spent an entire day in their place...buying or not, uniform or not!
I really try to support the small, local places...but I think this one just slipped right off my list.
Oh, and is it false advertising if your signs say "free wi-fi"??? Perhaps they need to add "with purchase!"

In response to t b.-
Apparently, you skipped right over all of the good things I originally had to say about this place. I wanted to show in contrast how one gets treated when they realize that they do not have any form of payment on them EVEN AFTER having been an ALWAYS PAYING customer.
The behavior by the employee was completely uncalled for. I guarantee that any person, from the local transients to the most important people in society...and all of us in the middle, would find her attitude unnecessary and rude.
I started working on typing my paper BEFORE ordering because the other people were in the middle of their transaction and having a lively conversation. I was being CONSIDERATE of all of them by letting them finish before I went up to order. After getting my laptop out, I relaized that I didn't have my money. The ONLY reason I mentioned that I was in uniform was to show that I was clean, not someone who had just dragged her drunken self out of the shrubbery, and not any kind of threat to the peace of the establishment.
I have never been the type that EXPECTS anything free. I ALWAYS PAY for everything, even insisting when businesses attempt to give me anything for free or at a discount. I have even asked them to offer that discount to others who are obviously in need when they come to patronize a business. I guess what I should expect is that there are still very narrow-minded people, much like yourself, remaining in the world that can only focus on one or two points and ignore ALL OTHER vocabulary. You missed the point completely. But like much of society, you focus on your negative view of law enforcement and can't see beyond those two words. Also to quote myself regarding being in uniform,"Not that I feel that grants me any special privileges...but seriously???"
Based on your inability to grasp the whole picture that I painted, I would imagine that life must be very difficult for you carrying around all of that anger. And, it appears that you have a ton of that negative attitude directed towards law enforcement.
My review was from 4 years ago! Hopefully, things have improved at Boomers. I think it will take t b. much longer than that to not be so "self-absorbed" (her own words to describe herself on one of her other reviews). Good luck t b. You will need it! -

I love Boomers:
1) They have a drink called the Chai Loco that is chai and espresso and love all mixed into one. I could live off it. It is not the same as a dirty chai - dirty chai's taste like baby poop - the chai loco taste's like love.
2) There are board games. Enough said.
3) There will always be one of three people working there. Really nice bald man (who I am pretty sure does landscaping), awesome red-headed lady (whose hair I am always envious of), or that tattoo guy that also works at the record store.
4) It's in the metrolink station which means there is always great people watch AND it has a killer view of the mountains.
5) The decor makes me want to dress like a mod, become a secret agent, and potentially wear go-go boots on a regular basis. -

I want to give this place 5 stars, but I can't. I'll explain why...
I love Boomers. It's one of the rare locations in the area where there is free wi-fi-they don't charge you $10 bucks for 24 hours of it like $tarBucks.
The decor is very art deco, retro style. Colorful furniture and art hanging on the walls. It definitely speaks to a younger adult crowd. They have snacks, pastries and coffees and teas. The coffee is okay, nothing special, but it does the trick when I come here to do my studying. It's quiet and I like that the chairs aren't plush and high enough so that i'm level with the tables. I can't stand sitting at a table and feeling like the table is taller than me! I like being high up.
It's in downtown Upland, which you'd miss if you blinked driving by it, but it's close to my place. It's one downfall...It's open only until 7pm and closed on Sundays! That's when people love to hang out and get their coffee and most of all that's when people do their STUDYING! It's a shame because I'd go there more often instead of where I go now.
Oh well.Listed in: While I'm Away From the Bay…

The address isn't correct because Boomer's new location is opening inside the Metrolink terminal, but it is across the street from the old location. Boomer's is great coffee shop. I can't wait to see what the new location looks like. The owners are great people (family friends too). The decor is very cool and inviting. They have a very extensive drink menu, so there is something for everyone.
edit 10/8/06
Recently received word that the new location will be opening soon, sometime in the last two weeks of October. On good authority I've heard the new location looks great!! Can't wait to see it and I will update my review as soon as possible.
Also updated the address with yelp, new location can be found at 220 East A Street (inside the Metrolink Depot). -

Passed by a while back while taking in some Upland scenery. It's an adorable little shop that's attached at the hip to the metro stop.
A bit pricey but understandable due to location.
Iced coffee tasted fantastic, but wasn't able to judge their basic black coffee. Take that as you will. -

I just like the fact that
a) as it stands by itself, Boomer's a pretty cool looking coffeehouse with a decent iced mocha on a warm summer day, and
b) it makes taking the Metrolink just that much better, instead of just roasting in the sun (or merely baking in the shade).
The short, red-haired lady was nice enough and made my mocha quickly. Nothing to complain about. -

Middle-aged new age retro with a constant barrage of fusion music.
This is not where I hang out. I don't remember anything spectacular about the coffee, and the breakfast burritos don't do it for me, either. The place is incredibly bland, relying on the groovy furniture to set most of the atmosphere, and seriously, fusion? It's a great place to go if you want to visit a textbook "coffeeshop," but it probably means you're a textbook "square." Free wifi, at least.
Don't get me wrong, nice people and all, but Deli V is just across the street... -

Love Love Love this coffee house. I'm not a huge Coffee person, but I do love their mocha capps. I'm a huge fan of the Soy Ice Chai Latte. This is the perfect place to sit, read and relax. I use to live in Upland, walking distance from here. I live about 5 miles away, not too far but there are different nearby places I can go to, but I would rather go to Boomers. Especially on my days off work.
The owners are super nice (despite what some of the reviews might say). I love that they support local artist and host art shows. This is as good as it gets! -

I've been going to Boomer's since back when I was in high school, and they were back in the Second Avenue Mall.
Boomers is a real, veritable breath of fresh air as far as coffee houses go. The décor is done in a mid-century modern style with a lot of really wild hanging lights being one of the strongest design elements.
The coffee is as good as anywhere else I've been, and it's nice doing business with a small business owner instead of a massively over-bloated corporation (read Starbucks.) Don't get me wrong. I like Starbucks, but the Borg-like uniformity of it all can be a little unsettling at times.
The employees are, and have been since I've been going, extremely polite, friendly, helpful, and courteous. I have always found interacting with them to be a real pleasure, and going there today reminded me of how my last absence from this coffee house was too long lived.
My recommendation: go, sit, play a game, or chat with some friends. My personal favourite in high school was a blended drink called a Chilly Willy. Today I was in caffeine load mode, so it was a triple mocha, which was just the near-aneurism inducing jolt I needed. -

I just stopped in randomly...I was early for an appointment across the street.
WOW! Very 70's retro. Cozy. Good coffee and some pastry things.
Right on the metro stop (I think it was a remodeled warehouse/loading dock)
Casual music, comfy chairs, magazines....an overall nice place to hang out.
Makes me a little sad that I don't ride the train out of Upland. -
