9 reviews for Boomers Burgers & Ribs
We stopped by Boomers at the recommendation of some locals. It is small, a handful of seats at the bar, a dozen or so tables, some video lottery games. Hubby and I shared a combo plate. The hot sauce has strong zippity to it, the sweet has a more smoky flavor. We asked for more sweet sauce and received it, but it was a different batch than our first, and was way hotter than we had in the other batch.
My hubby referred to the chicken as "chicken jerky" (it was dry) and for me, the beef ribs were overcooked, but hubby enjoyed them. The beef brisket was nice, moist and flavorful. We agreed that the shoe string style fries were delightful, with ketchup or the sauce our server brought.
You don't get much for what you pay, but the food was served quickly and hot. Service is OK, we came in around shift change, our first bartender was more cordial and helpful than the replacement who was more interested in texting on her cell phone and talking about herself than anything else, including serving the handful of people that were in that evening.
I would give it another try, but we had the opportunity to go back a couple nights, but opted for other venues instead.
Pretty good place if you're in the area. I'm staying in Jantzen Beach for work and drove by this place the other night. I decided to stop for a beer and some food. I had a BBQ sampler of pulled pork and brisket. The pork was great and I plan to stop back for a sandwich. The brisket had good flavor but was real fatty.
The "side" of fries was amazing, it was a small pail. If you like shoestring fry's, they were some of the best I've ever had.
If you like wings then you have to try the amazing smoked wings with chunky bleu cheese on the side! They are great. Whole wings smoked and then deep fried to order. Mmmmm dreamy! If this is all they served i would give them five stars but unfortunately they have really bad ribs too. I don't understand why you smoke BBQ for 17 hours in a really really expensive smoker just to serve it luke warm and probably from the day before. The service is always friendly and the wings are amazing!
Decent BBQ for a good price, and drinks served. Though, I must say, the bartender was less than amicable. But, at least the cooks were cool and friendly. The chicken was moist and delicious, but the sauces lacking. Good at first, but we shortly decided that there was just something less than great. The fries were good, cut super small and cooked to perfection, and the man who greeted us at the door was cheerful and jovial. It did the job in a pinch, but can't say I'd recommend it or return.
This place is great. My girl friend and i ate there today and we both loved it.. Great food for great price, $20 for two, but we didnt get any drinks.. Not to mention friendly service and we had left overs.. I got the chicken po boy and she got got the beef brisquet.. Im deffinately coming back when im in portland and would highly reccomend it to friends.. Thanks guys, you should move to seattle, youd have a line around the block..
Top notch BBQ place...I almost don't want to tell anyone about this place so I can have it all to myself. The fries are extremely good and the service was great. I had the pulled pork and hubby had the po boy. Both were really tasty.
The sauce was even better- I am looking forward to my next visit, hopefully I'll remember to check out the special! They had a steak special with mashed potatoes and grilled veggies for just over $10.

**UPDATE** I had to take away two stars because subsequent visits were disappointing. The pork ribs were as hard as jerky when I went there at night. Another time, my take-out order didn't have barbecue sauce. That was pretty bad, since I was the only customer there at the time.
Here's what I wrote in my first review:
I just discovered this place and what a treat! The barbecue sauce -- both the mild and the hot -- were some of the best I've tasted. Same goes for the pulled-pork Po Boy, which comes topped with coleslaw and fried onions. I've never had coleslaw on a barbecue sandwich, but the combination of crunchy cabbage, creamy dressing and tangy barbecue sauce is delicious. Now I'm going to want coleslaw on everything.
The shoestring fries come in a bucket. I'm not a big fan of skinny fries (it's hard to dip them in catsup and they flop around), but these were OK.
Boomer's is more of a pub than a BBQ joint (it also serves burgers), so don't expect the usual sides like cornbread. But the BBQ is legit -- they've got an outdoor pit right next to the restaurant, and the meat is fall-off-the-bone tender.
It might be hard to find ... it's located on the northern edge of the Jantzen Beach shopping center on the Target side.

This is the one place that I have to visit when I'm in Portland. The food is awesome and the people there are always nice. They are the only BBQ place I've been to that thinly slices their brisket, as opposed to chopping it up. Links and ribs are wonderful, too. The crumbled bleu sprinkled on the bleu cheese dressing is a nice touch. Great portions for what you pay.
Awesome BBQ bar and grill. Always great food.
