12 reviews for Boom
love the video room that plays music videos and boasts a nice pool table, but i really wish they would be something else other than the anthem music that is constantly playing in the main room.
other than that, it's fun and there's hardly ever a cover.
I was here on a Friday night with a few friends, we arrived at about 12:30a.m. and to be honest, the place was pretty dead. I'm not sure if it was an off night or what, because most other reviewers gave Boom 4 star reviews and I know some people swear by this place. When we were here there wasn't much in the way of "eye candy", and neither the video bar area or the club space were very full (however Alibi across the lot, which usually thins out early, was still pretty full at this time which is a bit odd). I was drinking Coronas, but my friends who were drinking vodka drinks said they were generous pours. Maybe on another night I'd give this club more stars; On the night we were here, it was pretty disappointing.
I went here for the first time with a relative and we had the best time ever!! I love this place, great music and great people! Love it! Love it! If you want to dance your butt off this is the place to go to.
Club-hopping on a Thursday night is not my usual thing, but here we are, arriving around 11:30PM. Boom had great music/DJ, an adequate dance floor, but the crowd was a bit older (on a Thursday anyway). After 30 minutes of really fun dancing (alone, no hot grinding here), we left knowing that the night probably has climaxed and on a slow fizzle. I might consider coming back on a different night if I were in the area again to see what its true potential is.
So, I was already tipsy by the time we got to Boom. I already had 8 cocktails at Alibi next door.
But, I definitely remember the hot bartender smiling and handing me a margarita (who ordered one??). He was so hot I would have taken anything he handed. I finish the drink in three gulps.
I come home, throw up and go to bed.
The next morning my partner tells me that the margarita had at least 4 shots worth of Patron in it. No wonder I threw up.
Now, that is how you make a drink.....stiff!!! Just like the bartender...yummmm!!
Pretty decent place. Nice music, ok drinks. its a "hangout with the boys" kinda place. Not a "make friends kinda place" (at least on my trips there but i still have fun with the friends that come with me"
I was watching "Fight Club" on TV on my last night in Ft. Lauderdale, and something about Brad Pitt's performance (read: naked torso) made me think I should go check out the local scene. I went to Boom, which turned out to be nothing like Brad Pitt's naked torso.
Boom is two bars in one-- a fairly bright video/pool bar and a darker dance club, separated by glass doors that keep the music volumes distinct. This is good or bad depending on your tolerance for dance mixes of Toni Braxton, Deborah Cox, and Whitney Houston. (I have a high tolerance, BTW.) At one point I heard a full 20-minute Whitney rock block, to wild applause from the patrons.
A thirty-something man, built like a wire coat hanger and wearing a half-unbuttoned color-block full-placket polo, pleated khaki shorts, and flip-flops was holding his drink rather elegantly, pinkie extended, while he shuffled across the empty dance floor. As the music segued fluidly from "Whatchulookinat" to "So Emotional," he kicked off his flip-flops and jumped up on the stage. He completely unbuttoned the polo, threw it onto the empty dance floor below, did a vertical push-up off the mirrored wall behind the stage, and promptly fell ass over teakettle, also to wild applause from the patrons.
If top-40 cheese is your scene, this is a little crumble of bleu from the gods.
And this is how a gay nightclub should be done!
Different rooms, different levels, video bar in one room milling around the bar in pink cascade lighting, in another darker, house music with a small stage for drag queens, voguers and everyone post midnight with remixed diva house music and clang clang on the drums with good drinks at decent prices poured by good looking muscle boys!
I went here the other night with my gay partner in crime. When I saw it was in a strip mall I figured it would just be another bar, but I was pleasantly surprised upon entering. It was a cool club/bar atmosphere with two levels. It kind of reminded me of Babylon on "Queer As Folk" (without the back room, or at least I didn't see one). The only weird thing about my visit here was that the bartender seemed to pay a lot of attention to me which was unexpected since this is a gay club and I would therefore assume that he was gay (not that I mind the attention ;). He even gave me a card so that I could come back for free drinks the next day. Unfortunately I was not able to come back because I had to work, but had I been off, I still wouldn't have made it since I was extremely hungover. ;) Anyway, I definitely want to go back soon because it's a really cool place with a fun atmosphere!
The modern sterotypical gay club. I love it.
Sadly neglected neighbor of Georgie's Alibi (the "cool" bar in town). Boom has friendly bartenders and a big space for dancing. Very nice, given the strip mall location. Nice 2 for 1 drink specials and $3 Long Islands on Thursdays. Parking can be tricky, as all gay nightlife in Broward County is centered on this odd gay strip mall in Wilton Manors.
Just returned from a Florida and had a chance to check this place out as it was recommended by our taxi-driver. lol.
Well we were'nt disappointed because we got some cheap drinks, they had a larger dance floor, and had 2 levels of fun !
The only reason I did'nt give it a stellar rating was because it's out of the way for tourist...maybe it was intended that way? Also I figured it was Florida and the clubs stay open longer but no....everything still closes at 2am like most of the country. Oh well.
The night we went it was crowded..not packed and it seems there was a wide array of ages, tastes, and waist-lines. lol.
So have fun here because you'll fit right in !
