I cannot say enough good things about Benny and the team that moved me into my new condo today! Despite some challenges with the staff at my old building, they were totally cool about everything and made my move quick and painless.
Fabulous work, guys! I can't wait to recommend you to all my friends! -

I decided to use Bookstore Movers after reading all the Yelp reviews and I am glad I did. The last moving company I used was absolutely AWFUL. They were 8 hours late, charged us double, etc.
Although they arrived about 30 minutes late, they called me three times to let me know they were running a little late, where they were, and their eta. They were professional, fast, and hardworking.
We were just moving down the block, so my girlfriend and I were planning on walking over a bunch of stuff ourselves and just using the movers for the big stuff. Bookstore Movers were so efficient that they were able to take ALL of our stuff in the original time they quoted.
Their quote was spot on. There was no bate and switch like you see with a lot of movers. They didn't try to upsell anything.
I will definitely use them again next time I move (hopefully not for a while!). -
Review from Lexie D.
Absolutely five star. Matt, Craig, and Aaron turned a day I was dreading into a stress-free experience.
Matt provided a quote very quickly and made me feel like I was in competent hands. Many quotes I received way overestimated my move time - but Matt nailed it right on the head. The pricing was also straightforward - one flat rate for the truck, movers, and materials. Many e-mails confirming the move were prompt and professional, and when the guys aren't in the office, an away message quickly responds to tell you so.
Craig and Aaron arrived at my apartment at 7:51am for an 8am move. We did an overview so they could best gauge how to efficiently move the apartment. The guys worked hard and fast - they broke down beds and one piece of weird furniture, moved a mountain of boxes, and wrapped dressers and other pieces for transport in just over an hour. They were creative at my new apartment when the alley wasn't conducive to an efficient move. They set up our beds and arranged the boxes neatly.
I'm extremely satisfied with my moving experience. Hopefully, I'm going to stay in my new apartment for a while, but if my friends move, I'll know who to refer! -

These guys are great! Moving always sucks - and this move was unplanned and I was under an extreme amount of stress. They took a stressful situation and made it as good experience as possible.
I asked that they help with packing and they did an amazing job. Everything was handled with care. The price was EXTREMELY competitive for the service you get. And I would know - I have moved a lot.
Craig and Pete were the two guys that handled my move. They were very professional and fun to chat with while they worked. It was apparent that they took their job seriously and treated my possessions in the same manner they would have treated their own.
I will recommend them to everyone I know and I will certainly not hesitate to use them again for my next move.
Great job guys! -

Awesome movers! I also selected Bookstore Movers due to all of the positive reviews on Yelp, and was not disappointed. From the time I requested a quote, the company representative was readily available via email and able to schedule things quickly. A helpful list of moving tips were also supplied to make the move go smoothly. Aaron and Chris showed up early, and started right in on the move. You could tell they were professionals - once they saw how many boxes, furniture items, and miscellaneous stuff we had, they created a plan and were on it. Our move took much less time than estimated, thereby saving us a good deal of money. These guys are definitely a great investment, and will make your move as stress-free as humanly possible. Thanks, Bookstore Movers!

Not much need to add here, just look at all the 5 stars! The reviews here are true, this is a great moving company, the movers are professional, do a great job, and are good people too.
Ran into a few issues at my old place and new place, but the guys worked through it and finished on time. -

I called on a Wednesday night and got lucky with a Saturday appointment.
Communication was via email: very responsive, informative, and considerate. The guys showed up early with a truck and moving equipment, worked efficiently, were friendly and straightforward. They seemed very trustworthy, and didn't charge anything extra except what was stated up-front.
Excellent, highly recommended! -

I had a great experience with these guys.
It was simple to coordinate the move with them via e-mail and they were extremely accommodating when I had to switch my move to a different day. The moving guys showed up early and took great care when carrying my stuff from my storage pod into the apartment.
I did a lot of shopping around, and I found that Bookstore Movers' rates are quite reasonable compared to many other moving outfits that aren't nearly as helpful or competent.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! -

I'm locally nomadic, as in, I don't even know what the form would look like to renew a lease. That being said, I've had my fair share of experiences with moving. After seeing a blurb about Bookstore Movers in the Washingtonian about a year ago, I held onto their name until it was time for my yearly move.
While the move was short, I had about 2 br 2 ba worth of furniture/boxes to move include an extremely loved LED 55" TV, expensive living room and bedroom furniture. For my last move, I used Gentle Giant. They took 6.5 hours to do almost the exact same move, charged about $175/hr and scratched my furniture so bad they had to send out someone to repair it. I was nervous to say the least about trying yet another moving company and praying that this time nothing gets broken, chipped or scratched.
The move was flawless. I went from a high-rise (elevator and loading dock totally separate from building) to a garden style condo. The move took a total of 3 hours. There wasn't a scratch on anything and they were kind enough to stick around and help me switch the placement of a few pieces of heavy furniture.
Needless to say, I was extremely satisfied and have been recommending Bookstore Movers to anyone that is moving. -

If you are reading these reviews to determine where to find a moving company for your next move, then look no further...seriously. Dont. You're all set now.
I chose Bookstore Movers based on their super fair/straightforward pricing, and felt assured I had made the right choice by the professional and prompt interactions I had with Matt right from the very beginning.
I had never used a moving company before, so I didn't know what to expect. I was moving from a 4th floor apartment with NO ELEVATOR to a first floor apartment just a few miles away. I thought this might take 4 or 5 hours, and prepared for an all day ordeal. We started right at 9am, and Craig, Conor (a.k.a "210") and Peter were absolutely amazing. Some other adjectives: Prompt, Courteous, Motivated, Friendly, Careful, and PHYSICALLY POWERFUL! They took those stairs on like it was their job...oh wait...it was, but it was easy to forget that, since they made every effort to be so pleasant throughout the entire process. They wrapped everything carefully, yet efficiently and made sure nothing was damaged. They were very professional.
In the end, this move only took 3 hours! and I was extremely satisfied with their services. I highly recommend Bookstore Movers, and will use them again in the future when i need a mover for any reason. Thank you again guys for all your help!!
Id give 10 stars if i could :) -

These folks were great. On time and courteous. They even help repair some doors in the residence. More importantly they disassembled and reassemble some of my baby's furniture correctly. This would be unremarkable save for the inability of My Truck Buddy to accomplish this task when hired for only assembly. I digress. Kudos to Bookstore Movers for knowing the jobs and gettin' 'em done and done right!

Nice, professional movers. They even gave us an extra mover at no extra charge. They also got held up for about 20-30 minutes because of my roommate's movers, but didn't charge us for the wait time. All of our stuff was in good condition and nothing broke. They were also very quick and efficient. They definitely were not the cheapest quote I received, but

I just recently used Bookstore Movers to move and I'm so glad I chose them! Last time I moved BSM was all booked up when I needed to move and I used another company much to my dismay. I'll always use BSM from now on.
We had Nik and Jeromy (cousins) and they were as awesome as it gets. Friendly, knowledgeable, fair, great at their jobs, and left us with a good feeling which is hard to do when any number of things can go wrong (and usually doe) with your moving company. Thanks Bookstore Movers, you made a satisfied customer out of me and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs to move! -

I had a 14 foot truck that was packed to the brim unloaded in 75 minutes. I don't know about you, but to me that is the epitome of a successful move! Can it get any better?
They showed up on time, were friendly, and were reasonably priced. They also hung around for a bit to help me put the bed and some dismantled IKEA furniture back together.
Don't even consider shopping around for quotes or specials...just save yourself the time and energy and book these guys now! You won't regret it! -

Like playing a video game with the God code on, these guys make an annoyingly and difficult situation so easy it almost feels wrong.
On time, amusing banter, extremely helpful and absurdly cheap, call early to book them because they are the best in town. They are my go to team for as long as i'm living in the area. -
Review from Merida F.
My friend had recommended Bookstore movers very highly. I had never hired movers before and I was nervous even with my friends suggestion. They had great communication and were flexible when I had to change my move in date due to a change in schedule. They confirmed a few days before and called when they were a few minutes away.
The movers came right on time and managed to get the job done a little before the estimation. The movers were professional, friendly, and very efficient. I think I will never go back to convincing my friends into helping me again. -

Bookstore Movers Review
Not long ago, I needed to move from one side of town to the other, and a heaping handful of things, which I will explain in a moment, tumbled together and led me to go with Bookstore Movers.
In the past, moving has never been a big deal for me. I never had much stuff to move. I would always just make a few trips in my car or someone else's truck and chalk it up as one terrible, but necessary, step in moving on to someplace better.
Well, this time I calculated that I didn't really have time or energy to implement my usual do-it-myself strategy, so I decided to hire some movers.
I went with Bookstore Movers because:
1. They came highly recommended by some friends of mine.
2. They are intelligent guys. I had the immediate impression from them that I wasn't going to have to explain everything to them 3 times; that made me trust them.
3. They specialize in apartment to apartment moves like mine was, and laid out exactly what they and I needed to know to make the move go smoothly.
4. I love books. They love books. I think I may have detected a Spinoza reference in one of their emails to me. You will likely not detect Spinoza references in emails from other moving companies.
5. They are licensed w DOT and fully insured. I checked.
Anyway, they did an amazing job. Showed up on time and everything went quickly and smoothly. First class service. Great guys. -

John and Craig helped move me from upper NW DC to downtown by the convention center and were courteous, gracious, and so extraordinarily helpful. I highly recommend Bookstore Movers for moves of all sizes. I was going from a one bedroom down to a studio and honestly had not planned out my new space tremendously well. Craig and John helped me eyeball it and moved furniture around for me a few times. I'm a little on the short side and consider myself fairly handy, but still have issues putting a bed frame together by myself. Craig and John tackled that without hesitation and also with a smile. They arrived early and moved me within the time frame we had estimated over email earlier that week. Everything came to a little over $400 and it was definitely worth the money. Definitely recommend using Bookstore!

After 5 moves in 4 years, Bookstore Movers is the best - period. Excellent & fair pricing. PHENOMENAL customer service. Efficient and SPEEDY service. Great communication.
I used them twice: once to move from one apartment to a new location and another to help move my belonging into a storage pod. Both times, they were on time, courteous and handled everything with the utmost care. Not a single piece of furniture was scratched, dinged or broken. Further, they wrapped anything that I hadn't done adequately to make sure it'd stay protected.
I *might* have been able to get some guy friends to do it for free, but their service is worth every single penny (and really, worth WAY more than what they charge). I don't have to micromanage or worry about things getting handled properly.
Matt, Pete, Brandon & Aaron were all phenomenal! I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend them. Having moved over a dozen times in my life, I know a good moving business when I see one! Thanks guys!1 Previous Review: Show all »

I trusted fellow Yelpers and booked them a month and three weeks in advance (especially since it was during the height of the summer / early fall moving season). They gave an estimate (which turned out to be spot on), and we confirmed a date and time.
Several days before the move, Matt got in touch with me (without my prompting him) to confirm everything, and let me know who would be doing my move. He even provided their individual e-mail addresses and phone numbers in case I needed to reach them on the day of, which was great.
The guys arrived on time, and even though we had some elevator issues, they didn't sit around. I mean - they really hustled to get things done, move things closer to the elevator, etc. I had forgotten to let them know that my mattress and couches would need to be wrapped, but they went ahead and wrapped those up with no extra charge.
My furniture isn't nice or delicate or anything, but nothing was damaged or broken. My new place had hardwood floors, and they didn't scratch anything either. Plates, glasses -- all arrived intact.
They ended up spending around 4.5 hours for the entire job - no breaks, but charged me only 4 hours of time. All in all, I was very pleased with the way they did everything from start to finish. A co-worker of mine used them a week later for her move, and gave them a big thumbs up too.
Highly recommended. -

These guys did an awesome job moving my one-bedroom apartment across town. Booking via e-mail was a breeze, and during the move they were professional, quick, and friendly.
The best part was that they were totally chill and flexible dealing with unexpected obstacles. I had the wrong information about when my new building would let us use the elevator, which extended the time to move in by about an hour. Even though they had another appointment, Bookstore Movers called ahead to their next customers to see if there was some flexibility, and put in the extra time to get me moved in.
I'd recommend them to anyone. -

I used Bookstore Movers for my move on Sept 1, 2010. My first time using movers, and they were great!
Showed up on time, called ahead, and worked their butts off. They even helped me find a way to get rid of some unwanted stuff I had left over.
I'd recommend them to anyone, and I plan to use them again the next time I move. Really great experience. Thanks, guys! -

My manfriend in D.C. recently decided to move out of his awful hole of an apartment into a less awful apartment on the hill. I offered to visit and help him move and then realized that we were simply not equipped for such a thing. We were a bit wary of hiring a mover because they're often large, careless and cold (I can say this as a former moving company employee). But we took the plunge w Bookstore Movers and we're happy we did!
We set the move up via email with Matt who was prompt, thorough and friendly in his responses. He answered questions I didn't even know we had. The day of the move Nik & Craig called beforehand to check in and make sure everything was still on. When they arrive (even earlier than expected which was awesome) they went straight to work, hauling all of my manfriend's possessions up his narrow staircase (basement apartment) without complaint, even for all the heavy, junky items. They zipped through the work efficiently and were also super friendly and funny the whole time. Some other reviewers have mentioned this, but you really do just want them to stick around after the move to have a beer, maybe play some foosball.
Moving is an odious task but Bookstore Movers made it as painless as possible. I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to avoid the tortures of moving. -

Bookstore Movers are the BEST movers! I've used them to move twice now, and both times they were great. In addition to being affordable, their pricing is simple (just one hourly fee that includes everything: the truck, equipment, mileage, etc) - so no extra/hidden fees. They always respond promptly to inquiries and questions. And the best part is: they're amazingly fast! I thought my move would take at least 5 hours, but they had it done in 3.5 hours, wow! Believe all the 5-star yelp reviews - and hire Bookstore Movers!

I can only think of one word to describe them: fan-freaking-tastic. They've handled our last two moves, and I can't imagine leaving our stuff in anyone else's hands. Matt and Craig moved our stuff yesterday (9/24/09) and did an awesome job - I think the original estimate was 4 hours, but they knocked it out in about 2.5 hours. In spite of a very early start time, heavy ass heirloom furniture, and a very frisky dog that nearly divebombed Craig while hauling said heavy ass furniture, they were professional and fast.
Communication before the move was great, too - the response to my first email was immediate, and I had plenty of updates leading up to the move date.
And if that wasn't enough, Matt lent a sympathetic ear to my landlord issues from the place we were moving out of, and confirmed that we were moving away from a complete douchebag :) -

These guys were amazing. They were early, cordial and professional without being overly so (know what I mean? Too eager? Yeah, not them).
They picked up my one bedroom in about twenty minutes, secured it all in their truck and met me at my new place.
Where their services became extraordinary was the great sofa adventure. My big sofa was about an inch (just an inch!) too tall to fit into the front door on the top of the narrow stairs in a cramped enclosure. After trying several configures to no avail (all of this I foresaw, unfortunately), they trudged in a mild drizzle to the alley to the back door and proceeded to hoist/wind/lift/swing that beast of a sofa around a spiral staircase and into the back door! Incredible!!!
They were so accomodating in arranging the rug, furniture, boxes and totes, all without a complaint!
Amazing. I love their cause and shall shop their bookstore (which, by the way, is a book lover's delight with the kitschy "appearing this week: Norman Mailer" signage and the books piling up on the stairs and in the bathroom.
I will gladly help these guys fund the great bookstore-buying endeavor and sing their praises. They are fantastically awesome! -

Bookstore Movers is everything you would want in a moving company. My move began inauspiciously when our Landlord started screaming that the moving truck couldn't park in our back alley (when really there is no other place to put it). She was a total jerk about it, but Matt was patient and very kindly told her he'd move the truck whenever anyone wanted to get out. I was really impressed - last time I hired some movers they barely talked to me and were mean-spirited to anyone else.
I was in a bad mood after the landlord incident, but these guys were laid back and even amusing with some light-hearted ribbing of each other. Matt and Nik were extremely competent and even got the job done in about 4 hours; other times it has taken 6 or 7. In the past I've had movers who would take breaks a little too frequently and dawdle through it, but these guys were actually running up the ramp to get more boxes. Very refreshing.
I see they were voted Best Movers in DC by the City Paper, and they definitely deserve it. Highly recommended -

These guys are the best! Prompt and reasonable, they successfully completed two and a half moves for me. The first was moving from DC to VA. The second was helping move some additional furniture from another apt. During the second move, the crew was hijacked and taken on three hour moving adventure by my friend needing extra help with some stuff being moved from the same apartment. Throughout each of the moves, the team was professional, calm, and relentlessly good humored. Every dollar well spent and worth twice the price.
As a follow up, I have recommended these guys to friends and colleagues. All of the feedback is positive. -

Matt is awesome - he answers all your questions, meets all your needs, and is extremely prompt in keeping in touch with you. His rates are comparable to other independent moving companies, but they provide all the vehicles, the man power, the equipment, as well as making sure all the items are in safe hands. They can give you a precise estimate in terms of traveling costs, taxes, amount of items needed to be moved, etc. Just shoot him an email or give him a call - he'll respond in a jiffy.

Similar to another reviewer, I did not use them because of their lack of communication and their general shortness in email when they DID communicate. I am surprised because fellow Yelpers have positive things to say. They were almost argumentative in their emails and suggested we use another company when we asked what their insurance policy is - weird.
I am disappointed because I love the business model. Maybe they need to take some marketing classes.... went with Georgetown Moving and Storage instead, and the quoted price is the same. -

Incredible movers- the best experience I've had in my life (and I've lived through about seven professional moves). Matt communicated with me via email quickly and was extremely responsive. They charge by the hour, and it's variable depending on the truck size and the number of men. I got three men and the small truck (but we actually had to make a second trip because all my boxes didn't quite fit- this was my fault for underestimating my stuff to Matt, not their fault!), and for a 5-hour move it came to $700. This was for a two-bedroom home. This price was incredible to me, as the guys would literally run to make sure they weren't wasting time, and took extreme care with my furniture and belongings as well as the freshly-painted walls and newly-refinished floors in my new house. Not one single ding, scratch, or broken anything. And to top it all off, the guys were really professional and well-educated (Beau was the manager of my move, and he went to Princeton and almost finished a PhD in philosophy before realizing he probably couldn't make a career of it). Brandon and Kris rounded up the team, and each guy was sweet, strong, fast, and professional. What a pleasure it was -- I can't sing their praises loudly enough!

I moved this past weekend, and the Bookstore Movers made it the most painless and easy process imaginable. I was unable to track down the manager to get the key to the freight elevator, and the crew was wonderful and were not slowed down at all by the elevator delays. They also know apartments in the area very well, and they actually managed to track down the key from a staff member. They were on time, efficient, and it was definitely the easiest move I've experienced. Will definitely use them again

Matt was a pleasure to work with in setting up a 1 BR move, and, on moving day, Jason and Craig were fantastic! They were very professional - arriving early even - super-efficient and yet laid back. Doing my part to support the future of Capitol Hill Books was an added bonus! Plus, it meant that they didn't make fun of how many boxes of books I had. If you are moving in the DC area, choosing Bookstore Movers is a no-brainer. We're so lucky to have this great independent business here (true for the bookstore and the movers!).

I found these guys on Yelp after reading about horror stories related to listings on @^$%&list and had as good an experience as everyone said I would. They were on time, dealt with my 3 stop 10 hour moving day and just kept on doing their thing, all on a holiday weekend. They took care of our stuff, got it in place with anything being broken, never complained, and charged a fair price for the work.

Matt and his partner whose name escapes me at the moment were just great. They were on-time, reasonably priced and got the job done quickly and efficiently, despite a number of potential setbacks (snow, traffic, rude homeless people). If I move again I'd feel comfortable having them do it without me present, which is about the strongest endorsement I can offer.

I found Bookstore Movers on Yelp and I had a great experience using them. I have a 1 bedroom in Arlington, the movers (Matt and Craig) arrived when they said they would, took my bed frame apart, and moved my furniture to the storage facility in about two hours. They were quick, efficient, very nice and professional; hence the five star rating.

I don't think I've verbally raved about these guys enough since they moved me yesterday so I'm taking to Yelp to continue to sing their praises. They were AWESOME. Fit me in last minute (I emailed on Monday for a Saturday move), got back to me right away and I love that I did all my correspondence with them over email. I kind of hate the phone. :) Anyway.... Nik and Andrew showed up on time and called me when they were on their way. Super friendly, super accommodating, had a great demeanor and made me feel very at ease about the move. They got into my apartment at 9 am and by 11:17 am had me completely moved in to the new place. It was phenomenal. AND, even more impressive, they got my giant wardrobe out of the apartment without having to dismantle it. And I mean, this thing is a behemoth. It's heavy, annoying, and there were absolutely ZERO inches to spare when getting it out of my old place; they were great. And then they were awesome in the new place about letting me change my mind where I wanted stuff, which I'm sure is always annoying. Best of all, though they advertised that it's a minimum 3 hour move (meaning a minimum of $300), they charged me just for the actual 2 hours and 17 mins they spent. No travel time, no extra fees... awesome. Highly recommend these guys!
