    Just for the bookstore part.

I considered getting a Kindle, then I came across this store. The decision has been postponed indefinitely.

This store reminds me of how much I love books. A great place for discovery. I love the layout, every "room" is a different genre. Plus the style is amazing, very modern and beautiful. I can't wait to spend hours here looking at their full selection.

In most parts of the United States, no independent bookstore owner in their right mind would toy with the idea of naming their store 'Books and Books'. However, in a materialistic-crazed society like South Florida, there's usually some leeway around it.

Welcome to Books and Books, y'all. The only bookstore in the city of Miami Beach, embarrassingly.

If a bookstore in NYC were to open up with that kind of name, we all know too well what would ensue: Riots at NYU and Parsons', activist get-togethers at independent bookstores with French names and Anarchist roots, Hipsters (i.e. Midwest-transplants) in the LES and Williamsburg throwing fits and signing petitions against the mainstream usage of such an intellectual institution.

Personally, I like the name. I just don't like the fact that no credit is given to 'Magazines'. Like, why can't it be called 'Books and Magazines'? I mean, I already know they carry books, you don't have to tell me twice!

Around the café entrance, the magazines at B&B are laid out in a stand. An inseparable companion to some great quality food. I didn't bother to see what periodicals were in display, but from a glance, I only saw images of some supermodel and a three-headed baby. Important things that matter in today's society.

Inside the bookstore, an awful lot of what they carry is centered on aestheticism. In one part of the store, there's a bulletin board where the employees recommend their must-read-book for the month. I was really impressed --- they all write really nice in cursive --- I'll admit, I was jealous. The prices are to be expected, but the excitement of a brand new book in front of you makes you consider opting out from the internet (it has done a lot of damage).

I'm a Poli-Sci junkie, so I found myself in that sector of the store. The usual dissident work of Zinn and Chomsky lay behind the usual Yuppie antidote starring Anne Coulter, Neil Bootz, Bill Sammon, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Steyn, among other statist-driven books for anyone stuck on the status-quo.

    Nothing impressive.

Overall, I enjoyed the bookstore, and I would recommend it it to anyone who can't afford the drive to Coral Gables. If you're artsy-fartsy, the back of the store carries a plethora of 10-pound Art History books.

    FOOD:

I did eat at the café, but I wasn't concerned about people-watching, (not sure why a lot of people are these days) and so I sat near the end of the store. It was a comfortable, a nice shady area.

My server recommended the South Beach sandwich ($12) so I went along with that. It was kind of like something you'd get at a Panera chain (i.e., toasted bread, crushed almonds, and turkey).

I didn't think much of it. I apologize, y'all, but I was really hungry.

This place is a gem, so I'll be back.

This Miami staple and favorite spot on Lincoln is a place we often visit on a Friday. The service is slow and it's more of a take your time place. Relax, grab a book, or gather your friends, but don't expect to sit down right away. The outdoor area during the prime time of lunch usually has a wait. If you check into Facebook while you are there and let them know, they will also give you a percentage off your bill at the end.

While I think that most of the food is good, I don't think its great. It's slightly pricey for what it is, but you have to remember you are also on Lincoln Rd. Good place to go for a lunch meeting and a big trap for Vegans. I personally am not a vegan, but my friends who are, think that portion of the menu is fab. Otherwise, go for the South Beach sandwich, it's a hit every time.

First time here on a Miami Food Tours. Sampled some appetizers including a ceviche, black bean hummus, corn salsa and gaucamole with chips. The black bean hummus was my favorite! Would definitely go back again to try other dishes, as well as tour the bookstore for a bit :)

I don't know how I haven't reviewed Books & Books yet! I love this place. A book store AND a cafe all in one? With some of the best people watching in South Beach? With a VEGAN section on the menu, VEGAN specials, AND VEGAN dessert options?

    Need I say more?

    Not really. Except for this:

Try the PB&J. Yes, it's fancy PB&J. I'm not even kidding. I'm in love with it.

Oh, and the yuca fries. And the tofu-mushroom bowl. And the black bean hummus. And the corn salad. And the sangria.

OK. I'm really done now. YUM.

Excellent spot to pick up your favorite magazines and then sit down to people watch while you snack on some great finger food.  Great salads and sandwiches.  By far one of my favorite haunts in all of Miami.

One of the few spots in Miami that actually has a good service.

Dog friendly too.  Which is always a plus.

I love to come here and while away the hours browsing! The selection of independent and unusual authors is fantastic. I love the selection of photography and art books.

My only quibble is that the turn the inventory over very quickly. If you see something you are interested in, it's best to purchase it right away because it might not be there the next time you visit.

I really, really like the Books & Books in Coral Gables. They're my go to place for everything Moleskine, and a great place to whittle away the hours. The Lincoln Road location is a mild exception.

The store is cramped, to say the least. Their selection suffers as a result, but is essentially the same higher-end collection one would expect having patronized the CG location. The customer service, however, is not as whimsical or charming as their petite layout.

My experience at their cafe was disappointing. We were seated by the magazines, but only after the host kicked a waiting employee out of the seating area (it was awkward). This was followed up by...nothing. No one ever came to get our order. Ever.

While I'm a huge fan of small/independent bookstores, this one is not quite the jewel of the B&B crown that it could be.

Note: Still more enjoyable than a Barnes & Noble.

There is a serious lack of independent book stores in Miami.  Lucky for us, Books & Books, our fantastic, independent and locally-owned mini-chain is conveniently located to fulfill all your small business bookstore needs!

I love perusing the shelves, and picking up random books on art, travel, biographies of people of whom I've never heard.  Each visit to Books & Books is an adventure, and I usually walk out with a great new read under my arm (or at the very least some new nugget of knowledge to tuck away).

Yes, the prices are higher than if you ordered your reading materials on Amazon, but we're talking local and independent here people.  The carefully curated selection isn't as vast as your mass-market bookseller, but that's part of Books & Books' charm.  You'll find those can't-miss new releases, but you may also be able to scrounge up that hard-to-find travel guide on backpacking through Basque country.  In need of a new leather-bound journal or agenda to keep track of your busy schedule?  Books & Books is for you!

Books & Books is definitely worth a visit or many, whether you're out for a casual stroll along Lincoln Road or on the hunt for your next page-turner.

If you're into NPR, if you're a fan of Ira Glass, if you appreciate modern art, you probably own a record or two, maybe you have a pair of sexy, tortoise-shell rimmed bifocals, you're likely a vegetarian, or a pescatarian, or a person who cooks to classical music, or a fan of the Buena Vista Social Club. You aspire to visit Buenos Aires to learn how to tango, and you may, just maybe, have a carefully curated collection of postcards from the 1940s.

You own a pair of Toms, you support at least one cause firmly, you've been to the Adrienne Arsht Center, you hold tight to your compact disc collection, you still make mix cds for your friends, you dabble in an instrument, you understand chess, you prefer Art Deco to modern high rises, and juuuust maybe, you have fondness for scrawny guys with intellectual sex appeal or waifish, bookish girls with little make up.

Whatever the case, if you subscribe to at least 2 or more of the aforementioned characteristics, it's likely you'll find a thing or two that tickles your oh-so-adorably-pretentious-fancy at Books & Books.

Then again, if you're going to the adjoined café, sit, stay a while, have a latte and order the curried chicken salad.

It's fine. Way overpriced, like everything else in the area, but fine. The food is fresh and satisfying enough and they make good espresso. The location is pleasant if you sit outside; it's a good vantage point to observe the endless parade of weirdness and hilarious pretension that is Lincoln Road.

Compared to other outdoor cafés I've frequented in my life, Books & Books is only so-so. But the service is fast and friendly and efficient, and in Miami that bumps it up an extra star. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but it's a good place to know about if you want reasonably healthy food and a decent wine list near the mall.

I ordered a tuna salad sandwich. It said on the menu it included sprouts, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Great! I love all those things. The sandwich comes and there's capers in it! Yuck. I hate capers. I get it if it just said "tuna salad" because then I would have asked how they make their tuna salad, because I know that it depends on the place on how they make their tuna salad. But they listed everything else but the capers?? Ok, so things happen.  I suggested to the waiter at the end of the meal to let the manager or chef know that they should add capers on the menu so you know when you order.  He began arguing with me and said I should tell him at the beginning of the meal the things I dont like and then he can tell me if theyre in the meal items or not. What?? So he wants me to list all the things I don't like prior to ordering just incase it is in the sandwich? All I wanted was a simple "good idea" even if he never did anything about it. But he had the nerve to argue with me about it, go over to his manager, saw them talking, she clearly said dont take anything off, he came over, put the bill on the table, and walked away. No apology that he just argued with me.  The argument was so ridiculous it makes me laugh. It was just me saying "So you want me to tell you everything i dont like at the beginning of the meal incase something i dont like is in there?" "Yes, it shouldnt have to be on the menu" - What a carless waitor. What if I had been allergic.

Was very disappointed with the Mahi Teriyaki Salad which was a special today! It was dried out and I should have sent it back, but didn't. The $50 price tag for what we had was insane. Think we need to stick to sandwiches when we come here again. I would have given one star but our waitress saved the day.
The second star is for the excellent service. Waitress was very sweet and all of the staff was attentive. My fault for not sending back the salad and getting something better.

This place feels like walking through a cathedral of books and magazines.
    It's beautiful.

Most locals know Books & Books for their Cafe and outdoor seating that is a great place to have brunch outdoors, but it's the book store itself that fulfills your artistic and intellectual cravings.

Endless walls of books to explore and turn you onto something that you never knew existed.  Open your mind and flip through book!

Please remember to buy something.  Bookstores are a renaissance of knowledge that are slowly becoming extinct, so please splurge and buy something to support them.  This place is a GEM.

I used to frequent the Lincoln Rd. location, and I still do, only now I mostly just eat at their cafe, and it saddens me that the space for their books has been replaced by DIESEL and relegated to a spot shoved in the corner all the way in the back behind the stores that front the road. It's not the most comprehensive bookstore, but good for spontaneous browsing for cheap (or-not-so-cheap) thrills.

And, like I said, the cafe is excellent. Extra points for having good vegan and vegetarian options.

I'm happy to finally get a chance to update my initial review. Since they've moved to their new spot - they have become the most awesome little small book store ever. Has all the required tourist reading now- romances, thrilllers, etc... but keeps the intereting artsy, thought provoking tombs front and center for your comtemplation.

I love the remodel and the sectioned off rooms, makes everything feel nice and intimate and keeps things easy to find. The childrens area is such a wonderful addition considering all the families that come to visit, a good quality selection to entertain the little ones.

Initially I was drawn in by the brightly colored chairs that perfectly fit the bodies contours.  This was the first sign of great things to come!

As a (mostly) vegetarian, I was pleased to see the menu offered an entire vegan section, as well as many other vegetarian items interspersed in the other sections.  It was very difficult to chose from all the enticing options, but I finally decided on the ratatouille and a strawberry lemonade.  The lemonade was nice balance of tangy and sweet.  The vegetables were all perfectly cooked and well seasoned.  But what really set my meal over the top were the homemade hot sauces!  I'm a capsaicin junky and Books and Books offered four varieties of hot sauces to get my fix.

While waiting for my meal, I explored the multi-roomed bookstore inside.  I really enjoyed the layout of the store and the unique titles I haven't seen before.  If I weren't paying $30 for my meal, I might have picked up a book as well.

I did end up bringing home a slice of key lime pie home, which was just how I was expecting it to be.

    Service was great too!

Despite, being someone overpriced (but probably on par with other South Beach spots) this place deserves every star.

I agree with most of the other reviews. The food isn't disgusting or anything, but if I'm paying $15 for a panini I'm going to expect it to have something special.

I ordered the eggplant panini last time I was here, which was decent. I would have preferred the eggplant to be warm, but it's served room temperature. I also had the cheesesteak sandwich a long time ago and it was not memorable to say the least.

The black bean "hummus" is just black beans right out of a can, smashed, and served with water crackers.

I wouldn't wanna come here on my own but my friend loves this place so if I'm ever back, I'll just order a side of yucca fries, which is probably the best item on their menu.

Last time I was here, Thais A. spilled her entire iced coffee on me so I had to walk around Aventura mall all sticky and smelling like a coffee maker. That probably didn't add anything positive to my experience at this place. But, the point I'm trying to make is that the waiter brought her a new coffee and was nice enough to not charge for it.

All in all, there are much better, non-touristy cafes around South Beach so go elsewhere for good food.

I had dinner at Books on a Wednesday night.  Will keep the review short and sweet...the bang bang shrimp appetizer/tapas is AWESOME!  The coconut shrimp is AWFUL and the crabcakes are marginal - if you are expecting a real crabcake forget it, I think these are frozen and reheated.  Not to be redundant, but you have to try the bang bang shrimp!

All seating is outside, and service was pretty good (started out terrific but slowed considerably as the night went on).  Very affordable prices are a plus.

Since this place downsized a while back I like it even more.  The book selection has become more specialized (which NPR claims is how these stores will survive the electronic book world) featuring photography books, local interest, guides, fiction, but is a limited selection, and some graphic novels/cartoon books.
Though the selection is limited, I always seem to find exactly what I am looking for, whether it be the new Christopher Moore novel, or an interesting book is was looking for but did not even realize I was.  The people working here are impressive with their knowledge of authors, texts, books the store has, books the store will be getting, and when the books will arrive.
I go here more often than not for special Christmas, and birthday presents that are out of the ordinary, and interesting.
Oh, yes, the cafe is still on the sidewalk out front, but I have little knowledge about it beside the salad selection which I enjoy.

The selection of books here is not stellar, and like South Beach itself, this store is driven more by aesthetics than intellect, but it's one of the only independent bookstores I can think of in all of South Florida (aside from other Books & Books locations), and it does represent the local flavor quite well. It's especially great for a quick browse, with lots of interesting graphic-driven books about travel or design, but there are plenty of deeper and locally-infulenced reads as well. They also offer a small selection of music CDs, artsy things and other knickknacks. I enjoy this store for what it is, and I am glad that Lincoln Road supports this establishment, but like Miami itself, I can't help but feel it is lacking a certain depth to it.

I was unimpressed by Books and Books. It was hyped up by a friend who lives in the area, and he insisted that it much better than my favorite Lincoln Road spot, Maya Tapas... I just didn't think he was right. Not that the food was terrible or anything, it just wasn't anything to speak of and there were a few things that just didn't click.

First, we ordered Sangria. Granted, just a few hours earlier I had a Sangria Rouge from The W and that was hard to beat, but even so I'm a pretty good judge of Sangria and I thought it was overly sweet and tasted like it had no alcohol whatsoever.

They gave us a black bean hummus plate with bagel chips, and I did actually enjoy it but it wasn't fantastic. We ordered guacamole for the table and I thought it was bland. The evening before we had eaten at Oh Mexico on Espanola and that guac was much much better.

I had the Cuban Sandwich and I substituted plantain chips for my fries. Ok, let's start with the plantain chips: they were not pressed enough and were too thick so the plantain meat was not cooked and fried all the way through, there was no salt on them whatsoever, and they only gave me two freaking plantain chips... not that I would have done any better ordering fries, because my buddy's fries were soggy and cold. Onto the Cuban... it was ok. It's hard to mess this sandwich up, but I have had much better Cubans before. I also got a wedge of my friend's Tuna Melt, which I thought was bland.

My girl ordered the Pan-Asian salad which I think she described as boring. I tried some of it and I would also describe it the same way.

Others at my table complained about bad service. I didn't think it was bad, it was just not good enough to warrant the automatic service charge on nearly every tab in South Beach. The waiter did do something funky, after we had been perusing the menus for about 10 minutes, he came back and replaced all of our menus with ones that had the specials. He at first didn't explain what he was doing, so we asked, and he told us, but he didn't say anything in particular about the specials. Just weird.

I think I'll stick with Maya Tapas because I'm a stupid tourist in South Beach.

Great for an outdoor quick breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Try their steak salad or chicken churrasco. Yum!  Great for people watching.

Bright, cute, great selection of books, friendly staff and clean bathrooms make Books & Books bookstore a win. Set up much like a mini modern art museum for books, funky objects and all kinds of intellectual doodads. Take some time and settle down with a good book, smart music and shop local.

I love this place; the food is always good. My only complaint is they don't change the menu that often  (or perhaps it is just because I am there so often that I am sick of the menu). Books and Books is also  very friendly to my doggie bringing her water and treats. This is one of the few places on the beach that is unpretentious, with good food with a great location on lincoln road.

One of The best Burgers I believe on the beach!!!

I have been coming to this spot for 6 years now.  It is always a great experience and most people you see there are the locals.  That says a lot!!!

If you are lucky, you will experience the friendliness of the Hostess in the front.  She always has a smile and has been great to us every time we go!!!

    Will continue to eat here!!!!!!!

Great lunch time spot to eat and socialize outdoors on Lincoln Rd. in South Beach...a concise menu with great fresh selections.  Since it was brunchtime on a Sunday i opted for t the flank steak and eggs with homemade fries.  It was great all around - cooked perfectly.  The homemade strawberry lemonade was refreshing as well. The avocado salsa is basically guacamole -a great app. choice.  There are far healthier options on the menu that I've enjoyed before like the grilled fish sandwich.  Overall a really neat  place to hang out and have a bite in the mix of the Lincoln Rd. scene and a local favorite...

Wow, I really loved this place, I just wish I could have gone here more than once. They had the most vegan selections of any other place I visited in Miami. While their (separate) vegan menu included really tasty-sounding and hard-to-find in Miami dishes like vegan coconut curry and vegan chicken salad, I was drawn to the "vegan platter". The platter had grilled tofu, seasoned corn (not on the cob), black bean hummus, a white bean salad, sweet potatoes. I mentioned to the server that the platter would benefit from some greens and my platter included a very simple lettuce/tomato salad but I'm not sure if it normally comes with that.

The tofu was absolutely fantastic.  A lot of places claim to have grilled tofu but I think they use a sort of panini press or George Foreman "grill", which doesn't count. Books and Books actually grills their tofu and you could taste the delicious charcoal flavor on the tofu. I would say that all other items on the dish were pretty good but nothing really stood out as being exceptional. Also, every item came at room temperature and I think the food would have benefited greatly from being served hot and with more salt/spice/punch. :) Finally, the dish was SUPER carb/protein heavy so if I go here again, I would maybe order a side of sauteed greens and then take half of the vegan platter home as leftovers, as it was a pretty big and filling plate.

The service was prompt and friendly and I really enjoyed the outdoor seating which was covered and included little warming lamps to help with the evening chill.
