Bookman's is a great used book store!  Not just satisfied with selling inexpensive, used books, they also have great deals on board games, video games, technology, movies, cds and more.

They buy used anything, but you'll have the best luck with DVD TV seasons and recent paperbacks.

It's a great place to kill a Saturday afternoon.

Stacking this place up against all other bookstores it can't be anything but a five. Buy, sell, trade. It is a Tucson classic. They even have all kinds of weird crap for sale if you're into that.

Plus, the people are always happy to help too. They must offer good dental or something. I am here at least every other week.

I also wanna thank bookmans for my seasons of HOUSE and my cheap back issue mags.

Bookstores are nostalgia for me. So Bookman's was just awesome when I finally entered their store and they even trade books.

I've gone in there with boxes of books to trade a lot of the Steven King books and they were all in top condition. They took like 2 or 3 of my books. They should post better guidelines or a limit on how many books or media you can trade to save people the time from bringing them bags or boxes of books. That was disappointing.

Over the years they have gotten expensive too. You can buy a lot of the books new from Amazon for the same price.

Really if you are looking for a true bargain on books. You need to check out Tucson Friends of the Library Booksale. They hold them twice a year before summer usually. You can get books from 25 cents, 50 cents, and 1.00. Some of the bigger expensive books are no more than 8 bucks.

Their video game section is pretty decent and you can actually find decent deals there too.

Pros:
Great remodeling of the store
They expanded all over Tucson
Live bands
Fantastic selection of books, media, games, antiques

Cons:
Trade program is weak
Stuff has gotten a tab bit more expensive. I've found better deals online.

Ah, Bookmans, a used store for the used store connoisseur!

The amount of great finds I've had here makes Bookmans a often stop whenever I've the chance to rifle through records (occasionally a good find for under $5, and a great place to impulse buy cheapies), want to grab a cheap used copy of a good book (fantastic selection, but I've had many times where they didn't have what I wanted from an author, of course - although I usually ended up grabbing something nearby), or... well, a multitude of other things. It's not every day you find a $4 Duck Hunt NES t-shirt, but I assume that was quite the rarity as the usually might have a single hanger of locally-made shirts.

Grabbing low-priced art textbooks, SNES cartridges (they have a pretty decent supply for older consoles - and systems themselves - but as with any used store, I've had my share of dead cartridges), the occasional audio equipment find, DVDs (I've only bought two, that never played well, but hey), children's books and toys, very nice collectables (once and awhile a first edition book worth grabbing), great magazine collection, a handful of antiques, really, list goes on, you can find almost anything here, except a decent chess set, maybe.

Hell, when I was in high school I used to dumpster dive here with friends, even their trash was worth grabbing. The overflow of great things was worth the effort.

Even with the occasional problem, they allow returns, and of course you can always come by and sell off your used delectables, but be warned: from what I've read and heard from irritated customers, they treat incoming with laziness and machine-like appraisal, which could explain some of the great finds.

To get the full Bookmans experience though, you'd have to visit as many locations as are convenient. The selection in each store is varied and for me usually worth the trip to the Grant and Speedway stores three or so times a month. I hope Bookmans sticks around, it's a real finder's treasury.

In my last review I told you guys about how there's a kids club. Well, my son received a kids club $5 card for his birthday. How awesome is that? I know, I know that once you get there, you spend more than that, but still, it's awesome. Plus, kids LOVE getting mail. It's always good mail too, not like the kind of stuff I receive.
So, check out the website if you have little ones because there are all sorts of summer activities going on.
Oh! One more thing. . . . . I LOVE reading the bumper stickers on the cars parked at Bookman's. It's like left wing reading heaven.

Holy Crap this place is awesome!

Anywhere I can go and see an extensive magazine and newspaper selection is a place i'm a fan of.

Not only can I get a copy of the LA times here, but also get a used copy of Guitar Hero as well.

Bravo Bookmans!

Can't say enough GREAT things about Bookmans!  I will NEVER EVER buy another brand new book again!  My kids LOVE going there and browsing thru the books.  They have to read a certain number of pages for school and Bookmans is PERFECT for getting the books they want at a cheap price.  My 12 yr old LOVES getting books and CD's.  My 7 yr old enjoys picking out her own books that she can read. My husband loves getting older "B" movies that you can't find anywhere else and video games as well and I LOVE roaming thru the cookbooks.  You can easily spend a few hours in there and come out only spending like 20 dollars.  It's a GREAT place for the family to go.
Wish there was another one further east like the Rita Ranch, Vail area.

I like this place for looking around and reading stuff while
sitting on one of their many chairs  (if not taken)
The one thing that  bugs me is they have
become very picky on what they will buy from YOU.
The place next door with take every single book you have and
give you credit immediately for any book there.

I live in Seattle where there are a PLETHORA of used and independent bookstores! But none of them are even close to being on par with Bookmans. I used to go here all the time as a kid and I loved it because it's such a cool environment to hang out in, and read books with your friends, look at old magazines, or listen to music.

Now that I'm older I visited Bookmans just recently and it's so awesome. I was able to find so many out of print or rare books there that I haven't been able to find anywhere in Seattle.

This place is the shit :)

If you are out of town, or even if you live in town and haven't been to Bookmans, please go!!

Bookmans is as close to "literary" as a provincially
boring & dumb Tucson can get.  Good selections of used
books, mags, postcards, antiques, etc.  They have
plenty of seating, good atmosphere and very basic
prices.  This place beats the corporates at their own game.

They don't have security cameras or rude, paranoid security employees like the corporates either.   What they do have is self righteous Eco hippy bonehead employees who make rude comments about customers & talk all day.  I don't mind the yapping but I saw one Eco hippy employee accuse some homeless guy of "messing up the bathroom".   The bathroom gets used by plenty of people & he picked on this guy for no reason.

Another annoying fact is that dogs are allowed to wander inside so expect drool on your legs, crap on the carpet, urine smells in the air & possible dog bites.

If you can get by the fact that some of the employees are nerdish, idiotic boneheads (ignore them if you can), then it isn't a bad place to sit for a while.

"So sad that we will be loosing this great place to the Grant Road project. Dogs are even welcome at Bookmans! Wonderful selection of used books, recordings and "things". A fun time can be had for not a cent or as much as you care to spend. Love it!"

I freaking LOVE Bookmans.  There just isn't another place like it.  I've been looking now that I live in California.  I've been buying and trading books here since I was a tiny little kid.

I've been a long time customer, I used to go to Bob's store when it was on Broadway and Tucson. No place better for killing time. I am getting a little disappointed lately.  Seems like Bob is more concerned about selling than the eclectic independent mix I remember in the past. I hope the Speedway location gets back to providing concerts.

I have to disagree with the previous reviewer who said Bookman's wasn't good for music and movies. I always manage to find crazy, awesome films here. Last time I got The Rutles on VHS for two bucks. Worth every penny! In addition to being an enormous bookstore, Bookman's always has oldschool video games and weird electronics. I got an old 9mm film camera for five bucks not too long ago. Don't miss out on this Tucson original. PS: Free wifi!

this is a great place.  friendly, useful.  trade your old stuff in, they may even take it.  forgive their desire for marketable goods.   I never leave here without a treasure.  what's not to like???
