Review from Torrance H.
Eureka, CA
I would say Booklegger is the best overall used bookstore in Humboldt County. The employees are helpful and friendly, and they give pretty good recommendations on their recommendation shelf. The prices are good and the selection is quite adequate.
I have bought entire series of novels here, and the occasional nature or science book. Oftentimes I find myself languidly wandering the aisles, brushing my fingers along the spines of texts I have chosen to read in some future that may never come. Ah, Booklegger. -

If used bookstores are your thing, then you've got to see Booklegger.
This little bookstore is centered right in the heart of old town Eureka. Booklegger is cozy, cute and unique. It offers something for all ages and portrays a very welcoming atmosphere. The books are very affordable and the selection is amazing!
While I was not looking for anything in particular, my Mom noticed there were at least a few textbooks which she recognized from her college days. She also mentioned that she was able to purchase a few books on her previous visit at an awesome deal.
Definitely worth checking out. Have fun getting lost in the thousands of books at Booklegger!Listed in: Humboldt County

If you are looking for that particular book and don't feel like going to that big box retailer in the mall this is your place! You can find like new, gently used and down right used books here. Lots of calendars, cards, bookmarks and odds & ends to choose from.
I've been coming here since 1999 and never left without a book or two in hand! Prices are great and an unbeatable selection!
They have all sections labeled and easy to find. You can get lost in there, by the way!
Very friendly and helpful employees.
"You can find us on YELP" sticker right on the door! Woo Hoo! -

This is an excellent bookstore. Good selection for a small location, friendly staff, and female-owned. The owners are also charitable and support the community. Fair prices, and a very enjoyable shopping experience.

Eureka, CA
I've been going to Booklegger for as long as I can remember. The selection of books is excellent; a good mix of old, new, popular and obscure. The layout is a bit maze-like, but I rather like that... on the upside, sections are well-labeled, so it isn't difficult to find what you're looking for. The staff has always been friendly and very helpful. I can (and often have) get lost in here for hours! (in a good way ;)

Great used bookstore. Small narrow winding aisles across two spaces. Well organized, but you still need to plan browsing time. Some older and obscure books, but for the most part, the collection is fairly contemporary in nature.

Oroville, CA
I swear this place just sucked me in after a late lunch at Los Bagels. And there I stayed for over an hour making the sales staff VERY happy as we cha-chinged our way through, carting out our two dozen varying texts to the awaiting chariot, promptly zoomed next door to Ramone's for shortbread & baklava to make our evening complete then raced back to our rented "chalet" where we launched into a night of decadent reading.
You couldn't wish for a more helpful or kinder staff. (They let us bring our dogs in, nice folks) Great prices too. -

Booklegger is a great place for cheap used books. Treasures abound. If you can find them.

Eureka, CA
One of my favorite things about used bookstores is the unexpected treasures you can find. Booklegger is especially conducive to finding those surprising gems because of the layout of the store. An abundance of whimsical chotchkes in the windows, ceiling and around the register add to the charm. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. My favorite sections are the children's books, the cookbooks and the literature section. I also find the prices to be reasonable.

Manteca, CA
This is a nice, well stocked used book shop, the kind you can browse in for hours and forget what you originally came in to look for. (I hope I'm not the only one that does that!)

I really enjoyed checking out this used bookstore, and actually spent a solid hour perusing the shelves! This store has a fantastic selection on architecture, and I was really impressed by the number of books on the Victorian style. My boyfriend and I were vacationing in Eureka to see a lot of the city's Victorians, and we hope to one day rehab our own, or build a house on that model. I ended up leaving the store with fantastic book on the Victorian rehab process, and had a wonderful time exploring in general.

Eureka, CA
A good used and new bookstore in Eureka's Old Town. Not nearly at the level of Eureka Books up the street when it comes to used and antiquarian books, but a good selection nonetheless, plus a few new books also. Highlights are a very good selection of used cookbooks; a good local-interest section including local history and trail guides; an interesting selection of antiquarian books; and a good selection of high-end greeting cards. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Absolutely LOVE this bookstore. Great staff that is friendly. Large...large...large selection of books that are extremely reasonably priced. If you are looking for a used bookstore in Humboldt County...come here first.

This store plus Eureka Books are a great combination. Booklegger handles more general books and fiction, has chatty staff, gives credit more like a paperback exchange, but still has some interesting books (history and metaphysics seemed notably strong, but the "rare book" cases near the front were weak).

Eureka, CA
Absolutely the best bookstore in Eureka. Too much? Well, that is my opinion. Large selection, friendly and helpful staff, a great place to peruse for reading treasures. They are always buying books for trade or cash and usually can do it while you look around. While they mostly sell used, they do have some new and can find anything and get it for you in short order. Right between Los Bagels and Ramones bakeries to boot. If this isn't all enough, the place is a veritable museum of treasures found in old books. My trusty gift fallback is always gift certificates from the Booklegger, it never disappoints

Sunnyvale, CA
I was so in love with this bookstore when I poppoed in impromptu today. However I found advance reading copies on the shelves and everyone knows that is a no-no. So I popped up my email and emailed some of my pub contacts cause I work in the business & checked and yeah not kosher... So I am sad a great store but hurting authors and apparently do not care to listen to the actual rules when nicely mentioned by patrons.

Eureka, CA
A well-loved used bookstore. The staff is consistently friendly and welcoming, and they've got a wide selection in pretty much every category. I like to stop in before I leave for a vacation, and I always walk out with two or three paperbacks I've been dying to read. A real treasure.

I only get to the North Coast once every couple of years but I always make a point to shop here. Great selection of mysteries! I came away with a banker's box full. Another no-bathroom store - is this a college-town thiing or what? Luckily, I had eaten next door so I used their bathroom but I think it you're a serious shopper, you've been in the store for awhile and you need to use the bathroom, you should be able to. They did give me a little discount because I bought so many books at once - that was nice! One star missing for lack of bathroom.

Oakland, CA
A nice well-stocked used bookstore in downtown Eureka. They got books in every category that are reasonably priced. The staff has always been helpful too and they've got an interesting and odd set of ephemera near from front. They have a small selection of rarer items that are worth taking a look at too. If you're on a book hunting then this store and Eureka Bookstore a few doors down are a good place to spend a couple of hours.
