Neat little book store. The people are friendly & the place is quaint. It's a small place, and having more than a few people in any aisle/section will make you feel crowded. The books are well-organized, separated into different genres and then stocked alphabetically by author.
As with any used book store, selection is varied. You may run across a book you've been looking for or you may find nothing that interests you.
The prices are reasonable. I went during a "Half Off" sale so prices were really cheap.
I keep every book I read, creating my own personal library at home. I usually opt for new hardbacks, so I don't think I'll be shopping at Book Again often. But it's can be a great resource for those who enjoy "treasure hunting" for a good book at a cheap price.
Tip: Bring cash if possible. They do except credit cards, but ask that you make a minimum purchase of $10.
Also, bring any books you no longer want and try to sell it to them. From what I was able to understan, they'll take certain books they feel are worth stocking, and give you credit towards the purchase of one of their books. If this interests you, ask the staff for more details. -

I came to this bookstore with about 10 books that I wanted to turn in for a few bucks. I would not have had a problem if they decided to give me $5-$10 total. After browsing for awhile, the clerk told me that she would not accept any of my books because of their condition. Deep down, I was irate because the condition of my books was exactly the same as a majority of books I looked through in this store. How hypocritical. However, all the used books here are very cheap.

A block away from my high school alma mater is book again, one of those stores i fell in love with, said was awesome, and promptly forgot about for nearly six years.
Book Again is hardly pretentious; it does not claim to be anything more than your friendly local neighborhood secondhand book store. But their selection is good, staff friendly, and prices reasonable. It kept me company in the four years I called Bishop Montgomery home, and kept me reading over summers. Good job, Book Again.Listed in: Hometown Haunts

In my recent quest for used bookstores in the South Bay I came across Book Agaijn due to good reviews online. The shop was not as interesting as Sandpiper Books around the corner. But I did enjoy myself enough to post a review.
This shop opens at 11 every day except for Tuesday and I happened to arrive around 11:15 to a lot of people shopping for books. They seem to do good business. The first thing that struck me about this place was that they have too many books. Er.. well.. too many bad books. I hate to say that because I did like the shop and the experience.
The second thing that struck me about this place was the non-stop hilarious banter coming from the women who work here. They cracked jokes at each other, at me or at the other customers (who snapped witty comments back) it made my day. The shop had a crowd of 40-60's aged people who all seemed to come in, grab a few pieces of fiction, crack a few jokes with friends and leave having spent 2 dollars.
I sold a few things here that other shops didn't pick up which was nice. Got 16 dollars in credit but spent 40 minutes wandering from the massive (and poorly stocked) science fiction section to the Self-Help section (which is where I was told the Philosophy, Psychology and Metaphysical books also are.) This is definitely more of a mainstream fiction shop. But I had fun and I'll be back to spend my sixteen bucks soon. -

It's almost decent. Mostly high walls of paperbacks. It's just a little cramped (by that I mean "very") for my tastes. However, they DO have an extensive horror and sci-fi assortment in the back area.
They have sales every so often in accordance with letters of the alphabet and corresponding authors. You know, if it was "K", then Koontz and King would be on sale appropriately...
It's an OK joint. A LOT of romance books, really.. Ambiance is catch as one can depending on the mood of whose working.
Plus: Shakey's is next door. Paperback and pizza, that's not a bad combo.
Minus: They wouldn't take my paperback collection of horror novels :( -

I'm giving myself a time out for not writing about Book Again sooner. This little hole-in-the-wall in a small shopping plaza has brought me much happiness in my recent budgeting times. Usually run by one or two little old ladies, the place is pleasant with a pretty decent variety. Romance lovers should have a great deal to look through, and there's a whole back room devoted to Sci-Fi/Fantasy and horror. I tend to look through their trade paperback-sized general fiction section the longest, since I find a good mix of popular and chick lit. Just a few weeks ago I was at Barnes & Noble, debating if I should buy two books I've been wanting to read (The Alchemist and Atonement ,for those interested) but couldn't justify the price, even with my B&N Membership discount. A day later I go to Book Again and find both in pristine condition! (and for about 6-7 bucks each, vs 13-14 new.)
As someone who has sold her books for cash, I can vouch that they are pretty meticulous about the condition of the books that they buy. If you "sell" books for store credit, they are a little more relaxed. Plus, it's pretty hard to keep a mass market-sized paperback (the smaller ones) in good condition.
Although you'll probably have to slide by another customer as you explore the narrow isles, it's totally worth the adventure. -

I freaking love this bookstore!
While looking at my budget months and months ago I realized I spent so much money on books to read in my spare time that it was breaking me. So after a little research I found Book Again.
Hardcovers and paperbacks are half (if not more) off the cover price! They are literally stacked from floor to ceiling with books! Yes, its a little cramped but an inch of space taken away from the isles just means more books for you! The staff knows where everything is and can help you find anything you're looking for. They have a huge romance novel section, (which is why I go) but an entire back room devoted to sci-fi, fantasy and horror. They've got a large mystery section and a pretty well stocked erotica section. (Weird huh?) I wish they had more best sellers, but I read them so rarely that its not that big of a deal. You can also put your name down for a specific book you're looking for and they'll call you if and when it comes in.
Sales are standard. Every day they have letters that correspond to last names of authors that are on sale. They are half off, the half off price! So you'd pay $1.50 instead of $3.00 for a book. Only catch is you cant use store credit to get the sale. They also take used books for store credit. Sometimes they wont be able to take your whole bag of books, but that's because they won't sell or they have too many copies of the book.
Some of the staff is a little quirky, but a few are real romance aficionados which makes me happy. Some of the conversations I've overheard there make me giggle, mostly because the ladies are older (in their 50's and 60's) and have conversations in REALLY loud voices.
Overall my favorite place to buy books. I never leave without something! -

Book Again is a small bookstore, chock-full o' good stuff. The main drawback is that they share a small parking lot with a Shakey's Pizza, so parking's a pain anytime around lunchtime, but the bookstore staff is friendly and cheerful, and they'll probably have at least two or three books by whatever author you're looking for. As others have pointed out, there's usually a sale going on, by authors' initials; unfortunately, I always know exactly what I want when I go in there, and it's always on the wrong day for whatever author I'm buying! But their prices are so reasonable it doesn't really matter. Especially good sci-fi and mystery sections, but if you don't find what you're looking for there, be sure to ask; some of my favorite whodunnit authors are in the "literature" section for some reason.

Walked in one day earlier this year with my daughter for the first time looking for kids books. Quaint place. Thought to myself that this is a great little place. -----until a lady walked in and the entire store smelled of "pee"! The clerk (don't know if she was the owner) sprayed the store after she left thinking it solved the problem. (uh, I think not!) I asked why they didn't ask the lady to leave and she said because that lady usually spends a lot of money there every month. I am definitely NOT GOING BACK there again knowing this lady, who has pee all over her, is touching all those books you buy. Gross! Disgusting! With all the diseases these days---All for the sake of money.

If your idea of a used bookstore is to trade pulp fiction, mostly mysteries & romances written by machines, then this is a great find. If, however, you enjoy browsing in used bookstores looking for treasures, you will be sorely disappointed.
It is, however, dirt cheap. -

This is not a Cliff's Books (Pasadena, CA) so don't expect to come in here looking for something spectacular or to find a rare treasure, you will not. What you will find is a bookstore with a HUGE selection on mysteries, romance and sci-fi...and yes, it is all paperback. There is not a single weekend that this place is not packed with people trading in books to get more books. They have a fare trade policy...you trade for store credit or for cash. Store credit gets you the most money naturally. The hot books are purchased quickly, but if you are looking for something a bit on the old side, then this is the place for you. Overall, the book store is decent, fair prices, and the staff is nice.

I've been to 3 different used book stores in the Torrance area, and this is by far my favorite. The paperbacks are inexpensive, you spend $10, you get a coupon for a free paperback. Every day they have deals on authors by a letter of a last name. The people who work there are very nice, full of recommendations, and if they catch you dancing to Mozart, you get a hug simply for making them happy. It's well organized, and while i don't recommend celebrating a good find at Shakey's, the beach is 5 minutes away.
