It's been a while, I came here with Soccerballgirl for some lunch the other day.
They give you a serving number now - no ordering by name. Shame - i liked that - it was endearingly old fashioned.

I had the Manhattan and fries, and a fine glass of cheap beer,  Soccerballgirl had my pickle and a bag of chips. She told me she was not hungry.

Of course, she had her eye on dessert and the frozen yoghurt place that has now taken over their outside patio. So the negotiations began when we finished our lunch.

" But you did not eat your lunch"
"Daddy, I did eat my lunch, I ate your pickle and I ate my chips"
"Yeah, but that was not a very big lunch"
" I know it was not a big lunch, but I ate it all so now I should have dessert. Please Dad, please Dad, can I have some frozen yoghurt with the toppings. I will share it with you."

This was only going to end one way, the way most things end, with Soccerballgirl getting her way, but in the middle of all this a beautiful thing happened.

A retired  / older couple had been sitting near us and they got up to leave, as they were walking out the door the guy came over to me and put his hand on my shoulder and said " it's pretty obvious you have a great relationship with your daughter, well done, you're an example to all of us "

I was pleasantly shocked, and managed to mumble thank you before he walked on out with his wife.

Of course, it's really easy to have a great relationship with a seven year-old. The tough times are ahead for both of us ! I hope we will still be coming back having a fantastic Daddy-daughter lunch at Booeymongers.

And of course - we did go for Fro-yo afterwards.

Booey's is just fine. I'm struggling to think of what to write besides that. It serves adequate bagels; adequate salads; and sandwiches that run the gamut from ho-hum (the veggie burger) to  pretty good (chicken gyro). There's delicious Fro-Zen-Yo in-store; prices are fair; peak times are crowded but efficiently run. And there are surprisingly good wedge-style French fries.

This is not a culinary destination. Jetties and Wagshals are just two of the better sandwich places I can think of in a 3-mile radius. But if you're looking for a solid sandwich in Friendship Heights or dining with kids/unadventurous people/people with lots of different dietary needs/people on a budget, this is your place.

First of all. They advertise that they use Perdue Turkey, and this is a positive, because??? I guess if you like supporting a company that pollutes the Bay, feeds its poultry arsenic, and pays the small town farmers minimum wages (which had to enter into agreements with the company because they were pricing them out of the market) , then by all means, get the turkey at Booeymongers.

Second, I asked for plain cheese, lettuce, tomato, hots, and Italian dressing sandwich (an Italian sub with no meat, which was impossible for them to comprehend). I got 3 slices of cheese, a few slices of tomatoes and a whole leaf of lettuce, usually places add more cheese and veggies to make up for not having meat, they just took off the meat and that's it. AND they forgot the hots and dressing.

Overall, would not go back. The service was bad and the place itself was not very appealing.

If you do not get one of their signature sandwiches you have to pay for everything separately...annoying.  I ended up paying almost ten bucks for a wrap.  Def not worth it.  The wrap was ok but the value is not.

    1) I find the name of this place deeply unappealing.

    2) The entire fro-yo setup is clearly designed to make you spend a lot of money - self serve and lovely appetizing toppings will mean that you'll put way more in your cup than you would otherwise. Plan accordingly.

    3) 8 fro-yo flavors - at least today - extra points for the green tea fro-yo, which was surprisingly tasty (and a bold lime green color).

    4) This isn't the kind of place where you'd want to sit for a long time - it's a little bit too warm (note to Booeymonger- when the temperature is hovering around 85 degrees, put on the ac), and a little too austere, and it's clearly anticipating a 12 year old girl customer (based on cute lime green chairs, and cheesy boy band music), but the yogurt is good enough that I'd come back.

Pretty good sandwich shop chain in the DMV.  I prefer the one in Bethesda to this one, but this Booeymonger seems to have more food options (they have a froyo bar).  The sandwiches are fairly simple and aren't overstuffed like some other sandwich shops.

P.F. Chang's bar was packed, so I ended up here.
It's easier on your wallet and has faster service than most of its Friendship Heights neighbors.

The food--sandwiches, burgers, and yogurt--is better than what you'd find at your average deli in D.C.

The staff members were polite, and it's open until 1 AM on Saturdays.  It's just a comfortable, cost-effective way to end a day of shopping.

Another place to add to my cheap (under $10) breakfast joints!

I had the Mr. B.'s Breakfast.  Two pieces of french toast made with seven grain bread (or country white) for $3.95.  What a bargain, and it was really nice bread, not your thin, commercial food service kind.  With a hot cup of tea it's just over five bucks.  My friend enjoyed her bacon and eggs.

Service was fast and efficient.  This was my first time in a Booeymongers, and like alexis g.'s former coworker, I always thought it was called Boogeymongers too!

I can now understand why Panera next door only had three customers dining in their place and this place was crowded (but not packed).  Finding a table was no problem.

    I will definitely be back!

Cute name, HOLY SHIT DID I GET A LOT OF FOOD.

I got the veggie sandwich, and I'm glad I didn't get the potato wedges that came with it (only $1.35).  About $7 for my sandwich, which is more than I would have paid at Subway, but whatevs. Two huge pieces that I totally couldn't finish, especially after I found out there was mayonnaise deliciously smothered all over both of them, peppers, mushrooms, cheese, etc.  I definitely had to spend time on the treadmill after that.   My friend got the tuna, and also was floored by the amount of sandwich she received.

Plenty of places to sit; I noticed that, at least this time, a lot of people come here to read the paper and eat alone-a little depressing, no?

I just recently moved back to DC after several years on the west coast and i was interested to try this old NW institution to see how it held up.  i think i actually had my first "date" here in junior high, back when there was a subway restaurant style sandwich making line and a MUCH, MUCH bigger and more creative list of sandwich options.  well... after so many years away, when i came again it was at the same location but much as seemed to have changed.  introduction of frozen yogurt (no thanks) and a much more limited sandwich menu.

not having much to choose from i opted for the "italian sub".  i must say it was very good.  nice, very fresh bread (way better than you get at the subways of the world), and good cold cuts.  my only critique would be that the sandwich was a little heavy on the mayo, but that's really nitpicking.  all-in-all i was happy with my meal.

so... in the end, i don't think this place rises quite to the level of potbelly for this food service category, but it is way better than subway or quiznos, and a much better value that the much hyped (but overrated in my opinion) Jetty's.

solid, but not remarkable.  would come again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.  also, i have to dock them stars for trimming down the menu options from the offerings they had circa 1990...  after all, you can't f*ck with a man's memories and get away with it, right?

3.5 stars rounded down to 3.

I've been here four times for lunch and twice for breakfast. Lunch sandwiches are great, although the method of getting you your correct sandwich is not exactly organized or accurate. I saw a couple of mixed up orders during my long and hungry waits. During lunch time, the wait time can be ten or fifteen minutes. I've had The Patty Hearst, The Georgetowner, and another off-the-menu sandwich concoction - all of which were yums. And I custom-made a wrap with brie and roast beef. REALLY GOOD. Plus, the place offers Nantucket Nectars. I can't get enough of that juice. But boo for being unnecessarily expensive.

My breakfast experiences on the other hand, were not great. I had a bagel sandwich with cheese, bacon, and egg. The bacon was way over-cooked (it was like a cracker). The egg was over-cooked. The bagel was mushy and un-toasted. And the coffee was crap. I actually tried all of the coffees (even the flavored) and they were all crap. Like brown water. I read the description of one of the coffees and it actually advertised that it was made from Robusta beans. Robusta beans are low quality (as opposed to Arabica beans) and mostly used to make instant coffees. Gross. I couldn't put it down... and especially after that cracker-jack bacon, I seriously needed a drink.

A note about the atmosphere: Muted TVs with sub-titled CNN. LOVE IT.

I eat at Booeys all the time.  It and Panera are the only places in Friendship Heights that I actually crave.  This is an old school, throwback kind of place however.  It's not like a NY deli necessarily... it's really unlike any other deli/sandwich shop.  But, it's darn good.  And the service is excellent.  If you're a regular, they will even make an effort to learn your name.  Come in with moderate expectations, and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

PS They also have good breakfast and even late-night food!

Booeymongers is my guilty pleasure between classes. It has a lot of quirky sandwiches.

I get the veggie delight. It's a great warm sandwich with mushrooms, spinach, tomato, salad veggies, alfalfa sprouts, onions and melted provolone cheese and mayonnaise. Is your mouth watering? In my book (menu?) a good vegetarian sandwich is just loaded with veggies. The potato wedges are decent, though nothing mind blowing. My advice is just to get the sandwich and a drink. It's a pretty filling sandwich alone.

Also the prices are pretty good and the servers are nice, too.

In the future, I will try the Pita Pan and review it here too. I'm curious about that one.

Booeymonger is a staple to NW DC. There is nothing better than their corned beef on rye and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda.

It use to be the best, that's changing, so for those that don't have the added nostalgia, it's just a deli.

They do stay open late which is great at 1 am and you NEED that corned beef on rye and Dr. Brown's Cream Soda.

    3.5 stars.

It baffles me that they are not more restaurants in Friendship Heights with all the highend shopping there. It must be that you could either afford to shop or afford to eat, not both. Well, I can always afford to eat and will always CHOOSE to eat.

I don't like national chain restaurants or expensive restaurants that serve crappy food, so that pretty much leaves me Booeymongers for a somewhat healthy grub everytime I'm up in Friendship Heights.

I like that they have fresh carved turkey instead of the sodium-laden deli turkey most sandwich places only offer. I like that you can customize your sandwich whichever way you like. I like that they have unique sandwiches that you can't find else where. And I LOVE that a sandwich does not cost you 10 bucks! Most of their sandwiches are in the $6-7 range and will not leave you hungry.

Sometimes you just want a decent sandwich and Booeymonger get the job done right.

My opinion of Booeymonger may be slightly skewed, because I get only one thing when I come here. I had tried a few things before, but then one time, I decided to get the Chicken Rico sandwich, and I haven't gotten anything else since. Chicken, onions, lettuce, and lemon peppercorn dressing on French bread became one of my favorite sandwiches in the area. I wasn't even tempted to try any of the other sandwiches on the menu, although most of my friends who I have taken here have enjoyed the other stuff. The potato wedges are pretty good, too.

Another thing it has going for it is that it stays open pretty late; up until 2AM on Fridays and Saturdays, if I recall correctly. In Friendship Heights, it's hard to find anyplace still open at that hour, so keep it in the back of your mind if you are looking for someplace to eat that late. I'd much rather go here than Steak and Egg

This place is a pretty conspicuous corner eatery with the red and yellow awning that is visible from atop the hill on your way down into Friendship Heights.  It's my "old stand-by" as far as restaurants go, which means I'm never really excited to eat there, and I usually leave wanting another sandwich or two, but it has something that will please even the most fickle of eaters.

That is not to say that the sandwiches are culinary orgasms... they are, in essence, your basic, run-of-the-mill delicacies with assorted toppings interchanged to create a variety of confections.  For example, there are about six different variations of the "turkey sandwich with melted cheese" that include options for bacon, avocado, sprouts, grilled onions, etc.  The staff are always really friendly and accommodating of personal preferences: I went in there a month ago and was able to switch bacon for avocado for no additional charge.

Although the sandwiches are not as huge as Katz's delicatessen in New York (and, let's be serious, what is?) they aren't as small as a $4 Potbelly sandwich.  For a fair price - usually about $6 per sandwich - you can get a decent lunch, or, if you're like me, a pre-lunch snack.  Just don't go in expecting The Four Seasons.

    Three and half star.

If you want something quick, cheap and good portion size, you can go to McDonalds in Mazza gallery but if you want a little bit less-fast food wtih window seats and more variety of dishes, Booeymonger might be your best shot in Friendship heights area. Good portion size dishes. You can even get espresso drink (OK but don't try if you are an espresso snob...).

    Service: Highly motivated.

Skip the dessert and have fro-yo. Good topping selections. Try seasonal flavor (e.g. pumpkin pie, peanut butter (awesome!! I don't like peanut butter so trust me. it's good)). You can ask for sample cup if you don't know which one to choose, or just get all different kinds into your cup so that u can try everything.

Good place to get some snack during your shopping-break.

This is your typical deli, except they sell booze. One good thing about this chain is they offer pretty decent daily specials. They do have a good variety here -- it's the place to go when you really can't decide what to do for lunch.

A former co-worker of mine actually thought this place was named "Boogiemonger," and he would call it that incessantly, no matter how many times we corrected him. I think that might be the reason I'm only giving it two stars -- I associate it with that co-worker's annoying quirks.

Probably my favorite of the Booeymongers because of the ample seating. (Contrast with the Georgetown branch where you almost don't have room to open a newspaper.)

The sandwich variety is great, although if you're indecisive about lunch you might be overwhelmed. Solid location too -- it's a convenient place to stop off before running errands in Chevy Chase. The bagels are actually pretty good (I'm a transplanted New Yorker), and I love the cinnamon coffee, although their one-refill policy is a bit annoying.

I'd LOVE it if Booeymonger offered Wi-Fi, but I guess that would destroy their quick-turnaround business model.

Try out every flavor of frozen yogurt (pay by the ounce) and order the potato wedges on the side. The service is quick and although it is often crowded, there seems to always be an open seat. Loves: veggie burger, soup, fro-yo topping bar. Don't Loves: Tuna and egg salads (have a bit too much mayo). They do great catering as well for the office setting (cookie platter is bomb).

This review is for breakfast only.

I love Booeymonger's breakfast selection. It's a guilty pleasure of mine when I'm running early to work and have some time to spare in the morning. They have the best everything bagels around! I find them to be just the right size and they taste great with just a little cream cheese or in a sandwich. Their egg sandwiches are especially yummy but I rated them a 3 instead of a 4 based on their breakfast potatoes. I am not a fan of onions or peppers in my hashbrowns but I do realize this is just a personal preference.

The staff has always been friendly to me and it's usually not that crowded so you can find a quiet place to sit and read your paper before you head to work.  Overall, I definitely recommend for breakfast and hope to check out their lunch/dinner selection soon. I've also been dying to try the fro yo as well.

They just opened a frozen yogurt bar here!  And it's pay-by-the-ounce.

Unlike other fro-yo places where one is limited to one flavor of yogurt and pays per each topping, Booeymonger offers complete freedom for fro-yo fans!  They have several flavors of yogurt, one candy topping stand, and one fruit topping stand.  Take as much or as little as you want and pay for what you pick!  Love it!

While most places I get a small size and one topping for $4, I left here paying $3 and had multiple toppings and two types of yogurt.  Wheee!

What I like about Booeymonger's isn't necessarily their food- although that isn't bad.  Instead, I like that they're open late and when you least expect it.  I search high and low for places in DC with New York hours, and Booeymonger's - perhaps dependent on location - is up there.

The food itself isn't so bad, but they've messed up my order a few times.  It's a fast-food meets sit-down-quick joint where you often find families and groups of high schoolers occupying the tables.

Regardless- I'm there for their accomodating hours.

I live in Friendship Heights and frequent Booymonger so I have a lot to say, but I'll try and keep it simple.

The food: Fairlly cheap, large selection, avg. five minute wait.
The staff: Usually friendly, always competent
The atmosphere: Background music is played at a comfortable level, TVs usually don't display much, lots of seating

I always get a complicated sandwich with potato wedges, but most things are pretty good. I'm partial to the carrot cake.

The enclosed patio area has been converted to a self-serve froyo shop, aptly called Froyo. One of the owners of Booeymonger owns it. Essentially, its two businesses in the same location. This is what makes it one of my favourite places, officially. The frozen yogurt is good (both sweet and tart options) with lots of toppings and friendly staff. Its 39 cents/ounce and doesn't take up much space, there's still some patio seating.

The froyo has become the best part for me, mostly because the only other self-serve frozen yogurt place I know of in the area is in Quince Orchard.

Eat at Booymonger, treat yourself to some fairly priced fro-yo afterward!

Oh, as far as alcohol goes, I believe it's just beer.

    - pay by the weight
    - cookies & cream was not overly sweet, tasted like ice cream = delish
    - red velvet was overly sweet
    - toppings didn't seem fresh

    - no more sample cups (!)
    - ridiculously hot inside

I JUST had the fro-yo, so dont read on if you want to know about the food.

the fro-yo was good, pretty common as far as the self serve type, i did like that there were a ton of flavor options, and you move through the line really quickly.

like some other reviewers i also noticed that not all the fruit was fresh, nor was it cut very well, it was nice that it had such a huge selection to choose from though, unlike a lot of its competitors. it was also quite messy, which i guess can be excused because we were there ona super busy day due to the 100+ heat.

like someone else said, dont go too crazy or you'll pay for all the yogurt and fruit you piled on! it goes by weight for pricing. i did notice that we got a lot more for our money than at berry cup in rockville, which was nice.

I was on my way to a free advance screening of "The Collector" at the AMC Mazza, THANKS YELP! A friend and I wanted to eat somewhere close to the theatre. Euuureka! Booeymonger a block away from the movie? Here we come!

It claims to be a different. A self proclaimed "unique" deli. They carry regular grill items such as burgers, cheesesteaks, and reubens. What they did not carry was the regular (or in some cases, exceptional) taste of an average joe deli. The food reminded me of my high school cafeteria. Unique is right. The taste was something I have not experienced at all. The chicken sandwich I ordered was bland and gross. The "Perdue rotisserie chicken breast" as listed on the item description was miniscule (skimped on the meat BIG time). The highlight of my dinner was the potato wedges. I dislike it when my fries has to steal the show. I enjoy every food item to work as a collective meal. This disaster dinner cost me over 10 bucks as well...

I dunno what makes this joint a unique delicatessen? They have nice store design and an extensive menu but other than that, This place stinks. The menu is quite large but that leaves tiny room for specialties. Another thing was the customer service. The cashier was rushing my order and provided very little assistance when I stated it was my first time at Booeymonger.

    They can't all be winners! : /

I probably will not be going back there, next time I am on Wisconsin...

The first time I came here was several years ago when I was still in college, and I remember not having a great impression of it.  However, I've been here several times in the past few months, and now I don't know what I was thinking way back when.

The atmosphere is that of a nice, neighborhood café, with plenty of seating and even an indoor/outdoor patio (they open up the windows when the weather is nice to make it essentially an outdoor patio).  The food is also excellent - I have not had anything here that I didn't like, and I've tried quite a few different things.  You can't go wrong with any of their hot sandwiches and a side of potato wedges.

The service is also consistently top notch.  Really, it's the service combined with all of the little things that really make Booeymonger a rare find.  Self-service coffee and hot water (even though I don't drink coffee, someone I'm with usually does), individual utensil dispensers (providing greater assurance that the utensils are actually clean) with high quality plastic utensils (not flimsy, fragile ones like most places), and tons of awesome dessert choices (cakes, shakes, frozen yogurt, etc.) really make this place stand out.  They're also the only place I've seen that doesn't prompt you for a tip when you sign your credit card slip, though this kind of thing probably only matters to a nerd like me.  But the best part of all?  They're open LATE (midnight Sunday-Thursday and 1 AM on Friday-Saturday).

I've never found any other place quite like Booeymonger - it may not be flashy or trendy, but it never disappoints!

This review is for the sandwiches only. I did not hit up the fro-yo bar and can not comment on that...

I found the sandwich somewhat disappointing. I got the vegetarian sandwich and it just wasn't as good as anything comparable (subway- quiznos- potbelly- etc). The portion was good and the price wasn't bad, but... ehh, I wont be going back.

Maybe this is old news, but I discovered last night that Booeymonger sells draft beer for $1 (I think it comes out to something like $1.10 with tax). It's not the best beer. I think they only have Bud and Michelob. But $1 still seems insanely cheap. And there's something novel and fun about drinking in a brightly lit restaurant rather than in the usual imbibing place of a darkened bar.

I also love their bagels, particularly the granola and chocolate chip. My only complaint is that they always run out of these. If these varieties are so popular, it would seem like they'd make arrangements to have more in stock.

But overall, I'm a happy Booeymonger's customer and highly recommend it to anybody. Hearty, tasty food, great prices and $1 beer. What else could you want?

Terrible FOOD!!!  The people are nice but the food is miserably bad.  The pricing is way to high and there is nothing in the store that makes me want to come back.  The home fries are a joke.  Mushy and disgusting.  Really no reason to eat here at all unless you are forced to.
