4 reviews for Bonnie Brae Hobby Shop
This is a very cool gaming shop. Along the right wall are a whole lot of current and older gaming books. They compete with Black and Read up in Westminster on the number of books they stock. In addition, there are two or three shelves of consignment gear. You can bring in your old stuff and they'll display it for you. That's pretty cool of them.
In the front on the left side of the store are a couple of racks of miscellaneous stuff such as gigantic plushie microbes or model planes. Farther back on the left is the gear for the miniature oriented of the gamer crowd. Books on tactics, models, tools, paints, and other great gear.
In front of the cash register are lots of boxed games and card games including a revolving rack of new gaming releases. That makes it great to find the new books when you need them.
The register has a lovely patina of dice, cards, miniatures, and other little bits of gaming stuff that make it excellent to browse.
In the racks on the other side of the register are a couple of cases with interesting or rare gear such as older D&D books.
In the back are several tables ready for gamers to use. Generally at least one table has a few folk hanging around, reading books, or getting ready for a game.
In the back are a couple of magazine racks brim full of interesting stuff to read.
The staff has been very helpful whenever I've had a question and are quick to look things up for you.
Truly one of the best gaming stores in the Denver area.
This is where I have been going lately to get my nerd on. It's really convenient, being right on Broadway, and it's a treat to wander through once in a while.
The selection of nontraditional board games is really good, and they've got a whole wall of both used and new tabletop gaming books. The staff is very helpful and attentive, they're always full of suggestions. Most importantly (for me) they always have a good selection of trading card games' booster packs and they always have plenty in stock.
I'm not a miniature gamer or painter, but I've heard from a couple of sources that Bonnie Brae Hobby Shop is a really great resource to have if you DO have coordination and patience it takes to paint and use the tiny little things.
They also have a huge space with long tables in the back that is always full of people playing cards or roleplaying or something exciting and nerdy like that, and they're really nice about letting you use the space when you want to pretend you're a wizard.
I used to come here pretty often, if only to look around at all the RPG books and board games they had. The collection is pretty huge; there are new and used books, trading card games, and RPG dice, and there are also modeling products, miniatures, and other odds and ends. I haven't stopped in to play with a group, so maybe when I do that I'll come back and update the review, but there's table space if you want to bring your group over or flip through the books.
It was a sad day in my neighborhood when this store moved to Englewood.
One of the most awesome collection of fun things.
