I thought I was on Man v. Food when I saw our food... Clearly, getting one sandwich per person was a mistake.
FOOD:
* We had the SANTA FE SANDWICH on a sweet roll. It came with a whole piece of chicken breast, topped with mayo, mustard, raspberry sauce (lots of it), chili peppers (big pieces), melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, etc. Simply delicious!!!
* For sure I will get a Santa Fe again - with less raspberry sauce, though, since it made the sandwich too sweet for my palate.
* We also had the PABLANO BURGER on multigrain bread. It wan't an ordinary sized burger...it's more like two Big Macs combined into one sandwich, except it didn't taste anything like what you find at McDonald's. The beef was juicy, meaty and really tasty - topped with melted cheese, creamy spicy sauce, lots of pablano pepper, and who knows what else was in there. It was incredibly satisfying, and that's all that mattered!
* Yep, we're definitely getting another burger next time. Maybe add some fries to it, too. (Note to self: We need to bring a friend or two so we don't end up wasting food like we did this time...)
* Anyway, all this food for less than $20?! Amazing.
SERVICE & AMBIANCE:
* No complaints about the service. The guy behind the counter looked a little disturbed when we asked if he toasted the bread, but he had good reasons not to.
* The restaurant is located on the east end of Broadway with ok parking. It's a small place, but clean and comfortable inside. It's not like at Little Lucca where getting a table outside can be a true battle.
SUM: Food at Bonne Sante won this time, not just again us, but also against Little Lucca and all other sandwich places we've been to so far!

Bonne Sante incredibly appears to give Little Luca's a run for it's money in pretty much every category.
Both sandwiches are about the size of a football and are easily two meals, which btw makes these sandwhiches quite cheap since at 8 bucks you can eat them twice and when you think about the quality you're getting while paying 4 bucks a meal it's really pretty incredible. LIke no joke, we weighed my friends BLTA (if you have to ask just order one) and it was 1.35 pounds. That's a lot of food. And it's tasty too!
So for the this vs. Lil Lucca?
Lucca uses hella bacon, and bacon comes in a lot of stuff. I like bacon. I'm sure you like bacon, because everyone likes bacon (just cause you're a vegetarian doesn't mean you don't like bacon, it just means you don't eat it. Anyways Lucca's gives you fistfulls of bacon everytime, it's sort of insane. Bonne Sante is not as generous in the bacon dept.
Buuuut Bonne Sante has burgers. Enourmous, 3 burgers in one sized burgers. Lucca's doesn't.
So i'd say if you're feelin bacon go to lil luccas, if you want a burger go to bonne sante, and if you want neither, flip a coin.
also i wouldn't compare it to Ike's Place, they style of sandwich is too different.
But yea, 1.35 lb football of food.
WOW!!! These sandwiches are the stuff of legend! Up until now, Lil Lucca has been the sole object of my worship, though I think I have been converted! But really, only for a couple of reasons...
...both have delectable meats and savory flavor combinations, but the last few times I have been to LL, they have been leaning a little too heavily on their garlic sauce (which I love, don't get me wrong), but it kinda left my stomach feeling like a bomb had gone off....
...they are both so large they make any appetite feel wimpy and overrated, but when I had my BS sandwich yesterday, I was able to go back to work afterward (albeit somewhat slower), which made a return visit much more attractive, LL just puts me to sleep (which is just fine if that is your goal)....
Oh yeah, just for reference, I had the Reuben with pastrami (they were out of corned beef, though I'll be back!). Excellent!!
I still love LL, but I think that Bonne Sante will now be my first choice (when one is available)!
Met a friend for lunch today. Lots of great selection, with cute names. The sandwiches are GINORMOUS and can easily feed two. What a great value!
Bit messy, but well worth the mess. I got "my favorite", and it really will be a favorite sandwich. Love all the fixins you can get on top, and really great fresh bread.
Metered parking around in the area, so make sure to bring change.
Living in the next town over, I'd pass this place by a few times on my visits to the Village Host Pizza across the corner. Since my first visit, I haven't been able to stop coming back for their burgers and sandwiches. Once a Lil Lucca's fan, I must say I've taken a break from them for the past 6 months with no regrets. The sandwiches and burgers here like the general consensus suggests are HUGE.
For 8 bucks, a sandwich big enough for 2 meals, and the freshness and quality of the ingredients, it is a steal. I used to order sandwiches but have lately have been ordering more of their juicy burgers. Be sure if you're ordering with someone and you want a burger, to order the burger first, since it does take a little time. A plus for the "Dirty Chips" they have here and the Orangina. For those who feel like straying away from the usual Lucca's, Darby Dan's, or Mr. Pickles, give this place a shot.
SO. my original review for this place was about a 3. but after i tried the Cesar sandwich here... i realized this place is actually pretty good. i guess i just kinda had to get used to their gourmet sauce (dried tomato and balsamic vinegar) too. which i thought was okay, but after i had the cesar i really like it.
last time i had the roast beef and for some reason i just wasn't feelin it :T and my friends told me to try the cesar and it is SUPER GOOD!
i totally recommend it :)

Lil Lucca's, Roxie's. and even Mr. Pickles: is what would come out of my mouth if you asked me for a good sandwich shop. I've never ever heard of Bonne Sante before and today for lunch with the coworkers I found out why.
While there wasn't anything wrong with my "Napa" - smoked turkey w/ brie cheese, on Dutch Crunch with everything. It was just ok. The gourmet spread was decent. The veggies were fresh. The toppings were plentiful. Not to much to complain about. But my bar's been set high with Lucca's and Roxie's.
Maybe next time I'll try a different sandwich, or maybe I'll just go to Lil Luccas. Oh, and they don't have air conditioning and it's gets really stuffy inside. I think I'll just go to Lil Luccas.

Come lunch time, I will ask a friend, "Baby Sandwich?"
Not because they are small. But because the sandwich is the size of a new born baby.
I drive 10 miles out of my way to go to Bonne Sante. Besides being ginormous, they are delicious. They put love into every bite. Bonne Sante (a.k.a. Baby Sandwiches) is exceptional, remarkable and outrageously good. I like it much better than Mr. Pickles or others in the area. Price is so low and sandwich so big, you can literally split a sandwich for a few bucks each.
"this place has HELLA good samichies....ohhhhgggggg.....its so good"
so i try....
and HONESTLY? it was "okay" dutch crunch bread is always good =) but the sandwich itself was less that impressive. i got the BLT...and i admit they don't go cheap with the BACOOONNNN but um....it was a bit too much if that is at all possible....? and was dry.... ?
i also had a few bites of the pastrami....and it was "okaaaay" and so was the turkey cranberry....not as good as the ones i make with thanksgiving leftovers the next day...but i mean if you're craving it...it'll scratch that itch for sure~ there isn't much seating...and parking can be a bitch to find on broadway~ but it's nice that it's a walkable distance from home =) personally, i like lorenzo's better....but when you're starving proximity...is key u know?
NEVER let a korean girl go hungry....she will bite your head off..

I'm chowing on the Napa Sandwich as I type this. This is visit number 2 to this place and I love it. My boss from work lives really close and she took me the first time where I got a plain turkey sandwich and it was just perfect. Tons of toppings and all fresh. Good quality turkey...fresh bread and a friendly staff who's efficient, yet can make a little small talk to make you feel like you're the only customer there.
I'm house and dog sitting for my boss today and walked on over as I was dreaming of eating a sandwich last night...some dreams do come true. A real gem!
These sandwiches are HUGE! We shared our sandwiches by splitting our halves in half. Definitely good deal on quantity and ingredients are fresh. The turkey brie was really really good -esp. with that relish and the caramelized onions. My only gripe is the forgotten cranberry sauce I was charged extra for. The potato salad for an extra dollar is decent - really eggy and really peppery though. Also brown potatoes with skins makes for a different taste and texture. Bottled beverages. Coffee flan was good - but why not refrigerated? The mango chocolate chip cookie would be a must for next time. Return of the Jedi poster was odd, but charming. Could use some outdoor bistro seating in front, I think, unless it was just not out for weather purposes.
Really good sandwiches and salads. Not open enough for me so I do not get to eat here as much as I would like. Also, the lines can get crazy at lunch time and it does not move too quickly. Still, the food is real good.
I eat here when I can. Probably the best lunch spot on Broadway.

Fusion.
The word gets thrown around a lot. Almost too much.
A cop out is when someone like Wolfgang Puck takes something foreign, tones it down, strips it of soul, and serves it up to tourists at highly inflated prices.
True fusion is when you see two things together and your mind says "what the hell!" and your taste buds say "holy shit!"
For example, the last fusion item that blew my mind was the Chinese sausage soft taco I had. (no way am I revealing the secret location of said taco, let's just say that Chinese/Mexican has a future in this country)
Bonne Sante took two of my favorite comfort foods and mated them in a harmony that still has my left foot shaking from taste overload (or maybe diabetic shock, jury is still out on that one).
Chicken strip.
Meet giant yummy sandwich.
The spicy chicken strip sandwich is probably the best sandwich I have ever eaten.
It also caused me to do something I rarely do.
Take home leftovers.
The freshness of the ingredients, the special sauce, the size of the sandwich, and the friendless of the staff make this my new #1 sandwich place in the area.
#1 Bonne Sante
#2 Beli Deli
#3 Ike's
Deal with it.
Expansion.

The fact that this place is family owned is a nice plus. The boyfriend and I were hankering for a burger and by the grace of Yelp, we found this place close by. I noticed the grill master in the back looks like he's still in college but as long as he's over 16, I suppose it's not a labor law issue.
The sandwich list here is imaginative and extensive to say the least. They carry hot and cold sandwiches, burgers and salad with a choice of sandwich roll, multi-grain, and dutch crunch bread. Get the dutch crunch if you're a fan of something sweet and you want to save yourself a trip to Copenhagen Bakery.
We walked into what seemed like a shop that either got attacked or was under a remodel (on account of the broken glass door that is now replaced by a wooden slab) but reading other reviews, I guess it's suppose to look like that. There are a few tables and chairs in the front and a long line that makes you practice your patience as the average time for placing your order rivals the time it actually takes to eat the same meal. (Yes, I understand that was quite the run on sentence-shut it.)
The staff seems a little disorganized and not on the same page when they're slammed and scrambling all over the place. They're constantly reaching over each other, calling out for items in the kitchen, and this haphazard chaos leads to negligence. During the 20 minutes we stood in line, I noticed a container of chicken breasts just sitting next to the meat slicer with no ice, no plastic wrap on top-no sign of it getting refrigerated. Needless to say, I didn't get the chicken that day.
Instead, the bf and I both ordered burgers and they were served w.d. even though it was requested medium. I suppose they don't take meat temperatures here but it would have been nice to have been given a heads up otherwise. The sandwiches here are too big for one person and it just seems like a big waste of bread and sauce. Most of the sandwich unfortunately IS bread so if you're a big carbo loader, you'll love it here.
I couldn't endorse coming back here if you're on a time crunch, want your food to come out together, or want it at a decent temperature. They seem to work hard so I can't hate it but at the same time, I can't see myself coming back. $17 for two sandwiches, one side of microwaved fries, and lukewarm burgers and most of it ended up in the garbage. So many people love it here though so many I just ordered the wrong thing.

I HEART Bonne Sante! I HEART gourmet sandwiches piled with generous portions of meat and fixin's! I HEART Dutch Crunch Bread!
I was introduced to this place by my lovely co-worker/friend, and a group of my favorite co-worders went on a leisurely Friday mid-morning. We ordered:
1. BLT &A Burger + fries: HUGE juicy tasty burger piled with avocados, bacon + the usual burger toppings. Piping hot steak fries (only $1 more!)
2. Chicken con Prosciutto sandwich: sooo delish! They give you plenty of prosciutto. Its salty goodness meshes well with the flavors of grilled chicken, provolone + the usual sandwich accoutrement.
3. Pastrami: well made rendition of a old time favorite.
4. Coppa & Prosciutto Sandwich: very impressed with the amount of freshly sliced meats on this sandwich!
5. Garden Salad + grilled chicken: GI-NORMOUS salad! The grilled portobello mushrooms were amazing!
I also am a fan of Little Luca's for similar reasons. However, Bonne Sante has a MUCH nicer atmosphere and indoor seating. For a small family run business, they were remarkably fast with the service.
Will absolutely come back and definitely recommend!

We drove there to get one of the amazing sandwiches, and I should say "Meh. I've experienced better".
We shared *HUGE* crab sandwich. We had to put away the top part (too much bread) and then shared one sandwich between two hungry people who skipped breakfast and were ready for the lunch.
Couple hours later I felt that I ate rock, I still can't digest whatever was in that sandwich.

Oh damn I lost a fan! Well guess what? I don't want your stank a** back! Life's been calling, and, I have to answer. I've been so busy for the past couple of weeks that I haven't had time to catch up with my review writing. However, that doesn't mean I was completely slacking off from my Yelper duties! I was still out and about from place to place stuffing my face. That, will never change no matter who effin calls.
Okaaaaaaaaaaaay FOOD.
I was in the area of Burlingame (on the freeway) when my stomach started to eat itself. So, I had to take the first exit (Burlingame). Good for me, this place is right off of the freeway 'cuz I was like, "ME SO HONGRY!" So I parked at a meter out front and walked in to find a deli-style counter to the left. I checked out their menu and saw burgers, sandwiches and salads. Mehhhhh. I wanted REAL food. I wanted a heart attack on a plate! Lucky for me, they had bacon cheeseburgers! Awwyeahbaby. My friend, whose stomach had been eating itself as well, opted for the Meatball Sandwich.
I stood at the counter and watched the chef prepare my "burger" which was made like a sandwich; no buns. This was fine with me because their sandwiches are as long as my arms! Okok my forearms. And they are packed with fixins! I took one bite out of the meatball sandwich and two meatballs fell out because it was LOADED with meatballs, sauce and swiss. Delicious! Each sandwich could last a good 3 days (not that you'd...want it to...but yeah.)
For under $8 per sandwich, I say this is a great deal for lunch. Also, for just $1 more, you can add their potato salad which is so amazingly good. It has some spice and a kick to it that I've never tasted before. You should try it. The only thing I don't like about this place is their drink selection. Can you say, "DIET"? Geez. You might as well just serve diet water or something. But that's okay. Because right next door is an ice cream shoppe baby.
Me so happy.

I'm not particularly into sandiwches, so for me to give five stars means -- at least in my mind -- that this place rules.
I wonder how Subway stays in business with Bonne Sante so close by and so superior. Let me be the 100th person to confirm that the sandwiches are ginormous.
Ask them to add the roasted red peppers to your sandwich - so good. Never had a burger because I love the sandwiches so much, so I cannot comment on that.
The only thing I wonder about is how long will it take them to get rid of that plywood and replace the glass already? Seriously - it's been there forever!

Holy crap, this place is good. Better yet, it's cheap!
Picture this: a massive 10-12 inch soft fresh roll packed with juicy delicious meaty goodness... for under $8? I kid you not.
I had a bleu cheese burger which rocked my world. On par with Red Robin, but even bigger.
I finally decided to try Bonne Sante after I read such great reviews...the verdict: its ok. The bread did taste really fresh and the sandwich itself was huge but still it didn't compare to a Roxie's sandwich...its ok and its within walking distance from where I live so I'll be back.

That's a BIG SANDWICH!! Tasty too. I ordered the chicken and prosciutto on dutch crunch and it was amazing(although the prosciutto tasted like corned beef).
I love it when I can eat a lunch and save the rest for dinner. This is a great place to share a sandwich as well.
The decor could use some help, as there's a door that's obviously being replaced and I feel like they're missing a skylight as well. It doesn't matter, amazing sandwiches! I'm looking forward to trying their burger next.

The bf has been talking about this spot for days and I finally got to try it today. OMG, so darn good! He said we should share since the sandwiches are pretty big and I thought he was joking, but nope, it was one huge sandwich!
We ordered a turkey, bacon and substituted the swiss for brie and added avocado. It was so stuffed that I could barely wrap my mouth around it. Needless to say, I only finished half of my half and I was ready to take a nap. And that spread they put on the sandwich, what is it? Sundried tomatoes, basil and olive? Whatever it is, it made the sandwich stand out from others
My new favorite sandwich shop. Too bad I have no car and it's a 20 minute drive from home or else I'd go everyday until I've tried everything on the menu.

We would give them the true five star. This is the best deal you can get in Peninsula. Sandwiches are HUGE which is not the selling point for us but the ingredients are good and fresh. Chicken, tomatoes, lettuce and buns are all surprisingly fresh. I really don't like turkey sandwiches but their smoke turkey and Gouda with BBQ sauce is the best one ever!!! They don't have many seats to sit down so take them to go! I can barely eat the half of it so this is two for the price of one. Enjoy!
I don't understand....maybe I hit it on an off day? We took the sandwiches to go and they were super soggy by the time we ate them, after my 2 minute drive. Their special sauce stuff is reeeeally disgusting too. I'd much rather go to Little Lucca's or Mr. Pickles. I'll leave Bonne Sante for the rest of Burlingame...

This has become my favorite lunch stop in the area. With generously portioned salads and sandwiches made to order by friendly staff, I always leave with a smile. I always have leftovers too.
This place is definitely up there for me in regards to sandwich shops. I've tried a few types and honestly there's not much I can say that is very original.
Stop by, pick any sandwich (none will disappoint), buy a vitamin water, and head to Muir Woods for some hiking. Your sandwich will probably be gone by the time you get there, so be forewarned.
Sandwiches are HUGE - I usually share. The cost is under $8 a sandwich, considering the size and amount of goodies on the sandwich I think it is a steal. The Cesar is amazing, with his special sauce and the grilled onions yum! This is not a boring sandwich place. He can heats it up and has a ton of fabulous fresh toppings to choose from. The atmosphere is sort of bizarre, but I usually get myine to go, so it does not bother me!
Simply the BEST sandwich anywhere on the peninsula!

Great sandwiches. Huge sandwich for 7 bucks. Had the turkey on dutch crunch. Great sundried tomato spread, fresh turkey, good bread. Good potato salad with a little spice.
Only wish there was fresh juice.
Definitely a place for sandwich lovers!

This place is right in my hood and one of the best sandwich shops. First of all, they are HUGE! you can easily share. They also make good hamburgers (actually two patties on a french roll), although a little greasy. I usually stick to the sandwiches - I love the roast chicken and their garlic dressing- all the ingredients are fresh and they use green leaf lettuce instead of iceberg (plus plus). They have a wonderful selection, plenty places to sit, and pretty decent staff.
The equivalent of the "everything but the kitchen sink" approach to sandwiches, the end result is anything but elegant. What sets Bonne Sante apart is its liberal use of gourmet sauces and spreads and the crazy portions.
Choose from sandwiches (including meatball, chicken with prosciutto, coppa, reuben, and the new grilled crab cake, about $7 and up), burgers, or humongous salads. The guy who makes the sandwiches seems to really enjoy piling on the ingredients. He was friendly though absorbed in his sandwich making task. The assembly area looked clean.
You can pick up some Dirty potato chips, cookies and soda. Or get some homemade potato salad for $1 with any sandwich purchase.
I chose "My Favorite" ($7.50) on a soft wheat roll, figuring it might be the owner's favorite. The chicken breasts were huge and thick. The sandwich had four large chicken pieces. The bread was nice and soft and the veggies were fresh (crispy lettuce that wasn't shredded, tomatoes, onions, thinly sliced dill pickles, red pepper relish). The condiments included sundried tomato spread, mustard, mayo & balsamic vinegar. The sandwich was flavorful (and messy) but had too much going on (too many sauces). I don't think yellow mustard goes with sundried tomatoes. And there were about FORTY pickle slices. I like pickles, but it was just too much. Over the top. The bread did get soggy but not as soggy as Little Lucca's.
I went to the shop thinking I was really hungry but I was still intimidated by how heavy and large my sandwich was. After I ate the sandwich, food coma immediately set in. Definitely plan to share your sandwich or have it for lunch and dinner.
I was expecting to see a typical deli but Bonne Sante doesn't have that deli feel. The inside is quite barren with some small tables, a flatscreen TV and a poster of the Return of the Jedi. It's clean but sparse and new looking.
Next time I'm going to ask for fewer condiments.

Okay, I LOVE honey baked ham sandwiches and this is the ONLY place I can find them at a great price, and the sandwiches are HUUUGGEE!!
Plus the service is amazingly fast if your on a tight lunch and everyone who works there is realllllllllly friendly.
All and all: GO!
OMFG! Thinking of this place conjures up nothing short of images of puppies and small children jumping joyously in a sunny cool meadow. That's the kind of happiness that was left in my belly after I was done inhaling my prosciutto and coppa sandwich on dutch crunch. The sandwich itself was massive with tons of meat (woot!), and as well as non-meat fixins. The bread was super fresh, with a crunchy crust and chewy and tender innards. All of the ingredients tasted supremely fresh and there were tons of it. They also have hugemongous burgers with two patties spanning the full foot long length of sandwich bread. It includes all of the fixins like their normal sandwiches and are damn tasty. Bonne Sante has quickly entered the realm of favorite sandwich places.

ALL other delis in the area, close up shop!! This is hands down, the BEST deli in the Burlingame Area. Little Lucca is alright. Actually, if not for their garlic spread, they can close up as well. Bonne Sante has the best sandwiches by far. I love that the owner actually works there. I forget his name. But, he's a cool guy. If you've never eaten there for lunch, don't make dinner plans. Your sandwich is actually two meals. It's a great place, great sandwich and a GREAT PRICE!!
Oh, yeah. Try the burgers!! They ROCK!!
I live just up the road from Bonne Sante and passed it many a time. When I finally entered for the first time today, it was nothing like I had imagined. The interior is very clean...like a hip frozen yogurt place or a coffee shop. Probably the nicest sandwich shop I've ever been to. Now the food - the dutch crunch here is the best I've ever had. The sandwiches are HUMONGOUS for the $6-7 you pay - bigger than Mr. Pickles or Little Lucca's. Frankly, I want to give this place 4 stars but only until I get the equivalent of a Mr. Pickle's Padre's Pride here to win me over. All around, I believe this sandwich shop is better than both Mr. Pickles and Lucca's.
Another example of an awesome hidden neighborhood gem uncovered by Yelp. THANK YOU YELPERS!!
The burgers here are truly fantastic. The boy and I shared the Island Burger with an order of fries (50 cents extra, in place of chips). What we were served was no ordinary burger. And no ordinary bag of fries. Our burger was split in half to make TWO burgers. I couldn't finish my half. Our bag of fries were the equivalent of four small potatoes. At just under $10, we had a delicious lunch for two. Can't beat the value.
We'll be back to try the sammies :o)

Ok I have to admit that their sandwiches are good and gigantic.
Foodwise I would give this place 4 stars. However I am basing my rating on the overall experience.
First off the day we went was super hot and everyone was sweating as we stood agonizingly in line waiting for our sandwiches. The front door was broken and there was no a/c...not even a fan on.
They pulled our sandwich bread out of a paper bag that was sitting on the floor. The girl making sandwiches was less than hostile; she was stoic the whole time and was wiping sweat off her face with her arms as she was making then.
After the second girl finished mopping the floor she came over by the counter to help make sandwiches WITHOUT washing her hands. The place was so hot and the girl didn't put the chairs back after she mopped so we had to eat our sandwiches in the car with the A/C on.
Conclusion: good food, crappy service, crappy surroundings, unsanitary sandwich makers.
I have been told by Ellie, the nice girl who works there everyday, that I am one of their top 2 most frequent customers. I've been coming here since they opened and they are the best sandwich in town. I frequent Bonne Sante probably at least once a week during my lunch breaks. They take phone orders to pickup so you can skip the line (very good thing to do on warm days at 12pm), they have the best-tasting sandwiches (thanks to their olive tapenade), great people, amazing prices, and enormous quantities. Their onion rings and potato salads are always two of my go-to sides as they only cost a dollar or two more. And...the portobello burger is definitely the best burger while the hottie is the most popular sandwich, but my favorite is My Favorite (that's the name of the sandwich).
Yes, the sandwiches are huge, but they are really good. They use like a balsamic shallot spread that just makes the sandwich over the top yummy.
They make cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, and hamburgers.
I get the veggie sandwich and it is filling and delicious. The guy who works there is a little grouchy and always fully stressed, but he doesn't hold back spreading on the goodness.
You can even order french fries if your super hungry.
The food is the best in the area but I gave up on the place.
Trying to call them is such a waste of time, they answer the phone 1/2 the time. as I work long hrs and have limited time I just plain gave up, just got ridiculously frustrating. I also walked past a number of times and the line was absurd.
I have 20 mins to run grab something and head back, and if a tight schedule is the the issue, this isn't a go.
The chicken salad I ate was fresh and excellent.
