Restaurant is on point. The food is delicious and the waiter was very pleasant and courteous.
Try the duck appetizer (I do not recall the actual name...but DAMN...good stuff). If you like Thai food, this is the place.
Bring a jacket, it can be very cold in there. For that food, I would sit on a block of ice and still enjoy it.
This place really sucks.. I'm surprised anyone has anything good to say about it. Maybe I just went on an off day? I stopped in here for dinner with my girlfriend a few months back and I wish I wrote this review right after so I could remember each awful detail with accuracy. The worst part of our experience was the service. There was only one other table eating besides us so it should of been very simple to get prompt service but our waiter kept us waiting all night while he kept disappearing in the back. My girlfriend ordered the nicoise salad and I ordered some type of thai curry and somehow my hot thai curry got to the table 10 minutes before her nicoise salad. How is that possible? My curry was really gross.. I got it with the chicken and the texture was not right, sort of rubbery with some fat and cartilage not trimmed off. My girlfriend said her salad was average at best.
The kicker was that while we were waiting what seemed like an eternity for our check, the waiter came out of the back without our check, then went to another table that had just been seated and read them the specials. We were not read any specials! Stuff like that really pisses me off. Not that there is anything special about this place anyway.
This restaurant was average in my opinion but my review comes with the caveat that we only tried mostly thai dishes. Therefore the 3 stars are going towards the thai cooking.
We shared a fish dish with some kind of thai sauce which was average. We also shared the phad thai and tried the soup (tom yum something?). the pad thai was also quite average, the soup on the other hand was bleh. i felt it was too soury as is most variations of thai soup but perhaps its just not my thing.
service was also so so. i would like to make 1 point that either the waiter or owner who sat us, put his hand on my girl's back (not inappropriately but she hates being touched by strangers) which caused her to hate him for the rest of the time there.
eh, go with caution. maybe the french stuff taste good?
Bonne Saison-- where have you been all my life
You were my first Thai restaurant.
You are absolutely amazing
One of Baysides best kept secrets
Five Stars because you make me see stars when I eat.
I would come here again and again for their duck salad. The flavors are on point: strong, vibrant, sweet, salty, tangy, but all of which work together quite well. I don't think this place has any ambiance whatsoever, but ultimately, this place delivers dishes that far exceed any expectations.
My gf, my good buddy and I were walking in search of a good meal around Bell Blvd and found Bonne Saison. I actually read about this place on good olde Yelp. So we decided let's go for it. When we first saw it, we actually thought it was a fusion of a Viet and French restaurant. Well we were actually wrong b/c they serve both. The service was a little slow that day since there was only 1 waiter but he was very friendly. So we decided to get French appetizer and Viet main course. We really recommend the mussels appetizer. We kept asking for more bread to soak up the sauce. Yum Yummy....Overall the entire dinner was delicious. We even had a chance to talk to the manager and find out that the chef is Vietnamese that used cook at a French restaurant. Overall, besides the 1 waiter service, the food was very tasty and we are planning to go back to try the French side of the food hehe.
My wife, 2-yr daughter and my friend decided to venture out for good thai food, and we ended up here. The place looks small from the outside, but is decent size inside. The one man service was very slow, yet friendly. I had read in the earlier reviews that its a place where you need time to go and enjoy yourself.
The food was delicious, we tried the pad thai, chicken with basil, and the spicy drunken noodles. Food was definitely worth the drive to queens. To top it off, the thai iced tea was simply amaaazing...!
Overall, a good place to go when you have a lot of time to spare.
Oh, Where to start?
The duck rolls were excellent. Full of strong flavors and interesting textures. In my opinion, this appetizer would be far too much for one person and is to be shared as eating the whole thing would be overwhelming. The mussels were a lightly flavored dish and really just let you enjoy a huge pot of mussels with a light well herbed broth. For my main course, I got the short ribs. A big portion of tender beef with so much rich and savory flavor. Vey very good, I would say I would absolutely get this again, but with so many great looking things on the menu it might take me a while.
The star of the show? The duck salad. There is not much else I can say other than that this is one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. Each time you lift you fork, you are picking up a mouthful of joy.
The service was fantastic and friendly. The atmosphere is low key and comfortable. The food is absolutely top notch.
The prices were reasonable for good food, and therefore were incredible since the food here is far better than "good".
The spicyness seems to be calibrated on a western scale, not a thai scale. If you like a little spice, you should be fine with a dish marked spicey, and if you want it really hot, you should probably ask for that.
I must agree that the music is the only thing that detracts from the experience. It's too loud and honestly just plain irritating at any volume. Something more soothing at a lower volume would be nice.
Today my friend from the Bronx came to hang out with me and some friends.
And it was my duty to find a good restaurant for dinner! (and I love this job! Thanks to Yelp! :D)
We are used to eat Japanese food or Chinese food, so this time I tried something different.
And that was 'French' food!
And after searching French restaurant in my neighborhood, I luckily found this place, Bonne Saison.
I trusted the reviews on this place, but I was curious whether taste of the food here is good or bad.(since this place is French-Thai restaurant.)
When I found this place, I was like.."ah.. doesn't look nice.. what should I say if my friends blame me?"
However, as soon as we got in, I forgot about the question.
It was buying books after seeing book covers only.
The restaurant was kinda small, and there were only two waiters.
But the food we ordered were just A.W.E.S.O.M.E!
Snail dish was good as an appetizer. (for me it was the first time eating snails, and I liked it. soft~soft~)
Crab balls were also great too!
For entrees, I ordered Pat Thai with seafood as usual. (I gotta try something else next time..) And I loved it as usual!
We usually talk while eating, but today I ate but no talk. lol. no talk. I was like "Don't bother me eating tasty food!" lol
After certain time, blue light turns on, and the whole mood changes.
I highly recommend this place!
After reading the mostly positive reviews of this restaurant, I was surprised to have had a not-so-great experience. We ordered the escargot for appetizer, and beef with chili sauce and pad thai for entree. All three items came over-seasoned and very salty and actually had my boyfriend and I feeling ill for the rest of the evening. The waitstaff was friendly yet under-attentive and seemingly uninterested. The highlight of our experience was when we received the bill and were surprised at the low cost for the meal. Unless you are shopping for a thai/french food bargain, I would skip this establishment until it is under different management.
if you are looking for Thai on the bell blvd strip, go to this place and stay away from erawan which is not even half as good.
Here is what I had (with my wife of course, although I could probably eat this all)
Tom Kha Pak soup B+, had mushrooms in it which were actually good, I know of another place that does it better or else this would be an A
Spring rolls A , nothing special, pretty standard
Duck rolls - A++ Awesome duck with some veggies rolled in a wrap and drizzled with great sauces
Peanut sauce chicken A+ nice and sweet with spice to it as well
Pad Thai chicken A
this place has great service as well , they also have french food but I didn't try that.
I'm really happy to make Bonne Saison my first review on Yelp because I think its a great restaurant!! I actually found out about it over a year ago through an ad in a Thai newspaper, and its become one of my favorite places to eat.
Recently, I went there for Christmas dinner with my family (which would make it my 5th time there and yeah you heard right: they're open on Christmas day!). I have to admit, I mainly go there for the French food but they're Thai food is pretty good too.
The crispy duck salad was very good- not too heavy and the apples and pineapple were a refreshing compliment to the duck. We also ordered the steamed mussels that came in a delicious broth cooked with Thai herbs and a yummy dipping sauce on the side. And the escargot in garlic butter? Yes please!
Now, the must-have: Chilean sea bass with lobster sauce. Yes, its as delicious as it sounds!! Flaky, melt-in-your mouth goodness served with creamy mashed potatoes and veggies. It doesn't appear on the menu, but ask for it as they usually have it available.
The service here was great and the staff was very friendly. The only downer was that they didn't have any of their yummy bread on that day, so we had to settle for a basket of white toast :(
Definitely eat here if you get the chance!
I've always giggled when I saw the "Thai French" sign outside the restaurant. How random. I never would have thought to go here, until talking to a friend from the area who recommended it because it's actually really good. They have both a French and Thai menu.
We tried tonight for the first time. Love it.
The food was great and the service was the best part. My husband actually got sick in the middle of dinner and we had to take our food to go, the gentleman who worked there wrapped our food up and even threw in some extra cans of coke since I had mentioned earlier in conversation that the only thing I crave this pregnancy is Coca Cola, all while showing genuine concern for my sick hubby. You just don't get service like that nowadays, so that was refreshing and much appreciated. The tom kah kai soup, although not the best I ever had, was certainly better than Erawan's. Chicken in peanut sauce was excellent, as well as my pad thai. Make sure you try the duck rolls...mmm mmm good. So not only is the service and food awesosme, but so are the prices. It's unreal how affordable it is.
If you are in the Bayside area and are craving Thai food, don't waste your money at Erawan -- go here instead. You'll get more for your money and you will actually enjoy your food. An update is imminent once I try something off the French menu, can't wait :)
On a lazy Saturday my wife and I decided we didn't want to stay in and order the usual selections in our neighborhood so we decided to check yelp out. We've had success in the past with other reviews so we went to check out Bonne Saison since we live in the area and never heard of it. Surprisingly enough its practically a couple of stores away from a steakhouse we've been to in the past but its a smaller place and easy to miss if you're driving past the neighborhood. We walked in and were greeted and shown to our table It's a smaller restaurant with average decor. For me if the food is good - nothing else matters. Based on previous reviews we ordered the duck salad - Unbelievably tasty. My wife usually doesn't like duck because she feels there is an aftertaste but she couldn't get enough of this dish - that is until I told her to save her appetite for the entrees (I ofcourse proceeded to finish the salad...heh) For our main we ordered shrimp pad thai and green curry soup. Pad Thai was well cooked and delicious - shrimp would have been better if it was slightly less done - not bad but could have been great. The green curry soup was what we were expecting - spicy w/great flavor. The only other Thai place I've been to uses a different type of eggplant while this place uses the regular eggplant. Different but still good. We usually order extra food when we go to a new place so that we can sample the lot so the waiter(or so we thought) wrapped it for us and even gave us some extra rice so we wouldn't have to make our own. Thoughtful. When we asked for the check we also ordered 2 Thai iced teas for the road and this is when the night went from good to great. (Iced Teas were good btw) Who we thought to be the waiter turned out to be the owner's son and was filling in for the night. He sat w/us and shared with us how the Thai/French restaurant came to be and even comped us on one of the drinks because he felt the service could have been better had the other waiter been available. I'm one to appreciate that type of service and will definitely be going back to this spot.
The other day we were walking down Bell Boulevard, and saw this Thai/French restaurant. We looked at the menu posted on the window, and decided to give it a go.
Interesting approach to decor, I believe they are trying to follow a french style motif, maybe? I personally found their choice of music annoying, but not bad enough to detract from the fine taste and presentation of the food that was brought out to us.
Service was very excellent. Good smiles, excellent descriptions, patient and attentive. Could not ask for more in this particular aspect of the restaurant.
The food shines here. I had a chilean sea bass special, my friend had the duck tamarind. For an appetizer, we had the special "duck wrap." That was similar to chinese style peking duck in a wrap... very nice!
The food was very good, presentation and style of the food light and tasty. Portions were smaller than I like but sufficient for most, I think.
I would definitely go back and I did enjoy myself very much. I suggest checking it out if you have time and inclination. Note: parking can be tough to find on Bell Blvd.
Hope this helps!! Enjoy!
When I saw "Thai French" on the sign I expected fusion cuisine, but instead Bonne Saison serves both Thai and French food. I tried the Thai, and really enjoyed it though it wasn't the best I've ever had. Though it's not the most glamorous restaurant, the staff is very friendly and will work hard to make sure you have a good time. On a summer evening when they open up the storefront windows it's an excellent place to take a date, especially since you'll have the option of having either European or Asian fare depending on your mood.
I have to say don't miss the French Onion soup and Escargot for the French food lover. If you love Thai food and want to try something a little heavier than just salad for you main course, try Duck salad. Thin slice of duck with fresh pineapple, cherry tomatoes, red onion and Thai chili paste sauce (Yummy) . I don't mine the decor so much as I feel comfortable to walk in there with jean and t-shirt and still can get good food. If yo think the music is not good just ask them to change it, I don't that is rude to do so at all.
