Not only is Bonehead's the best barbecue I've ever had, it's one of the top food experiences I've ever had!!! I had been hearing, from my friends, how good it was, but, when I actually had some, I was completely blown away. Everything I tried topped my wildest expectations. My wife, who LOVES her barbecue, was speechless.

The brisket is the best I've ever had. It's smoked perfectly, and melts in your mouth. It's loaded with flavor, but not so much so, that it overpowers the meat. While Bonehead's BBQ sauce is off the hook, too, I preferred to eat the meat with only a tiny bit of sauce, so I could enjoy the wonderfully complex taste of the beef.

Without writing a novel, everything else was just as good, from the chicken, to the sausages, to the cornbread.

One nice surprise was the mac &  cheese. It was the first time that I ever had home made mac & cheese (not from a box) that I actually liked. Bonehead's mac & cheese was so good, I think I ate like four helpings! It had a ton of cheese, and had a lot of flavor, without tasting like melted Doritos. A very nice adult version of a childhood favorite!

Let's just say that my wife and I can't wait until Dave, the owner, opens up his planned BBQ restaurant, so we can get us some Bonehead's, whenever we want!!

Unbelievable BBQ!  Best in CA, by far.  I prefer Texas style dry rub BBQ and these guys do it right.  Awesome brisket and delicious sides (beans, mac n cheese).  I wish they would open up a restaurant!!!!

    Awesome BBQ!

My husband's company hired Bonehead to cater their annual summer BBQ party. The food was fantastic! Chicken, ribs, beans, coleslaw.....so darn good!

Highly recommend them for big events and catered parties!

THE best BBQ anywhere to be found.  I have been all over looking for good BBQ.  Unless you want to order to go from North Carolina...you can't find any better.  It is the real deal.  Pulled pork, ribs, brisket and fantastic sides.  This dude knows how to smoke meat AND he is a talented chef as well.

    YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!

Amazing BBQ! My husband has had Bonehead cater two events for him and has had nothing but great things to say about their food and service. Last year he was able to sneak some food home to me and I thought I had died and gone to BBQ heaven. The brisket was beautiful!

He just had another successful event today and I told him not to come home unless he had some food for me. I'm pregnant and you don't want to mess with a hungry pregnant woman!

Next time you have a company event request Bonehead or heck if your having a backyard party don't bother to cook just call these guys out to do it for you.

The peach cobbler is also really amazing!

Boneheads catered a birthday party on the Peninsula for our twins in August 2011.
It meant a long drive from the East Bay and a delay due to traffic caused by a football game at Candlestick: but the food was well worth the wait!

Personally, I would recommend the ribs and the chicken - the ribs, especially were just perfect.
In the interests of honesty, I found the brisket to have a bit too much fat, but others at the party thought the brisket was the best of the 3 meats that were served.
I would happily and heartily recommend Boneheads - my wife and her father (present at the BBQ) are both native Texans and loved the food.

I would, and will, willingly book them again.

I have to say, Dave at Boneheads never lets us down with awesome BBQ. Dave's food is by far the best BBQ out there in the Bay Area!! The sides are all amazing, his meats are unbelievably juicy, flavorful and seriously melt in your mouth. I am a huge fan of the pulled pork and chicken, but will run to any event Dave is catering. If you have not had Boneheads yet, you are missing out big time. It really makes other BBQ places I have eaten at  look like they need some lessons from Dave in how REAL BBQ is done.

This review is dedicated to all the Milton Friedman's and Bill Lumbergh's of the world.

My work had Boneheads BBQ cater a lunch meeting the other day, and I decided to throw in some "keywords" if you know what I mean.

Even if you weren't part of the meeting, you were part of the BBQ experience because of the incredible smoked meat aroma floating around the office.
----- That's a "Value added proposition" if I've ever heard one.

First of all bbq, isn't something that's easy to cater since it's so time consuming but Bonehead's was on time with their delivery. Let me add that that they're based out in the East Bay and my work is in SSF.
----- So you do the math, they promote "synergy" with their cooks and drivers to get the food here on time and did not "drop the ball" with our order.

The order consisted of back back ribs, bbq chicken, baked beans, sweet potatoes, cornbread, and some salad.
----- they certainly "brought their A-game" as their baby back ribs are their "core competency".

Here's my plate, the only thing I didn't get was a piece of their cornbread and salad. Serious Man food ahead.  http://static.px.yelp....
    ----- "Let's take this off-line while I multi-task".. yum.

Their pork ribs were wood smoked to a nice pinkness, they were a little dry but still tasty and spiced really well.
-----Didn't fully meet the "benchmark" but certainly above the "industry standard which "exceeded expectations"

What I liked was that they served their bbq sauce on the side in a mason jar and that they pre cut the ribs which was definitely work friendly.
    ------ "paradigm shift"

The sides were standouts as the baked beans were really good. Savory, homely, really good flavor, thick - I'm not usually a baked beans fan but I really liked theirs. The sweet potatoes weren't to sweet and had a consistency of dirty (skin on) mashed potatoes.
----- it's a "win-win" situation and the "80/20" rule may soon be in effect.

Now back to those TPS reports.

Absolutely the best BBQ in the Bay Area or anywhere!  Dave catered my daughter's graduation party and everything was fantastic!
I had everything in writing and communication with Dave was not a problem at all.  Thank you Bonehead's for a wonderful job.

By far the best Texas BBQ I have ever had outside of Texas!! (it is a shame Bonehead's doesn't have a restaurant!)  All, my friends will tell you that there are two things I am snob about and that is Mexican food and BBQ, and Bonehead's makes the cut in the BBQ category.

Bonehead's catered a University of Texas alumni event and I would have to say that there were probably 200 Texans at the event and not a single complaint!  Their meat was extremely tender and their sides were delicious!  Even their sauce was top notch, which is one of the key ingredients left out of Californian BBQ.  Even the owner was extremely nice and made me feel as if I were at home back in Texas.

Bonehead's was so good I  am going to have them cater my wedding's rehearsal dinner! and if I ever become a millionaire I will try to bribe the owner of Bonehead's to start a restaurant with me!

So there's an assumption made about us Texans out here in the bay area, and that it that we often favor our own, just simply for the sake of projecting the things we miss from home here onto the bay area., regardless of their quality or their degree of similarity to what we're used to. But the assumption is false -- that is why, for example,  any true Texan you meet out here will defend Shiner Bock to the death and cast aside such other only-Texas things as Zeigenbock.

And that being said, eating some catered Bonehead's BBQ makes me feel like I'm a stone's throw away from the Capitol building on Congress Ave. We had an event catered, and it was, for a few brief moments, like I was sitting at County Line or on Lake Travis.

BBQ is a cuisine that is by its nature subjective. There are so many ways to prepare and serve it, and it just so happens that some people prefer one way over another. So if you don't like Texas style BBQ, well, that's your prerogative. But I reserve the right to call you a fool, because it's truly tasty and Bonehead's makes it as good as it is back home.

I wanted to give NO STARS. That's because NO FOOD. Yes, you heard me.  Here's the saga:
I booked with "Bonehead" on March 9, 2011 for a graduation party on June 11, 2011. I spoke to Dave and chose a menu, placed a  $450 deposit on my credit card which posted that day, and settled on a time for delivery. I recontacted him several times to confirm and also to change some items on the menu.  The most recent contact was the Monday before the party, where he had some trouble finding my invoice in his computer.  When he found the invoice, he kept apologizing for how "sloppy" it was in its listing of the items to be provided (to include plates, forks, knives, you name it).

So, the day of the party he was to arrive at 3:30 for a 4:00 guest arrival. 3:30 came and went, and no food. At 3:45 I called him, he answered, claimed not to know who I was, and had no food for me at all. I HAD 60 PEOPLE AT MY HOME AND NO FOOD TO SERVE FOR DINNER.  He at first claimed that he had no invoice, then that he lost it.  Then once he found it, all he could say was "it was a mistake."  That's all, just a mistake.  He didn't offer to buy some food and bring it--and since he had $450 of my money, he could've done that--NOTHING. He just acted like it was no big deal. What he didn't know was that we had a house full of high-powered people, all of whom throw big parties, and he could've received great business from them--to include a well-known legal analyst from Channel Two, who has promised to get the word out about NOT using the Bonehead, EVER, as well as highly-placed court personnel from the county who went to Diablo Foods, purchased all of our ribs/chicken/brisket/sausages, and informed THEM of the debacle as well.

I will tell everyone I know about this BONEHEAD--aptly named--and warn all of you never to use him. UNDEPENDABLE, UNRELIABLE, AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!

A truly amazing find.  Bonehead's catered our wedding reception and guests continue to rave about how great the food was!  Everything was delicious-brisket, pulled pork, chicken, tater salad, baked beans and the cornbread.  Most people went back 2 and 3 times.  Truly the best barbecue we've ever had!

And I can't say enough about the service.  Dave is one of the kindest people I have met.  Unbelievably friendly and helpful from beginning to end.  He personally delivered and served our guests, going so far as to refill drinks, clear plates and make sure that everyone had what they needed at all times.  Thank you Dave!

We cannot recommend Bonehead's more highly for any event-personal party, business event, etc., you'll love every bite!

We had Bonehead's BBQ today for a birthday lunch at my office and I have NEVER EVER heard such incredible praise for food in all of my life.  Everyone raved about everything, particularly the sauce, but also the ribs which I guess have a really tasty rub on them.  People kept saying "this is SO much better than so and so's bbq", naming every other bbq joint in the area.  I dont think I saw anyone use a knife, the meat just fell off the bone.  The smokey aroma now permeates the office and I feel like I'm back in sweet home Alabama.  (Yeah, I know, it's Texas BBQ, but what do I know about it, I'm a vegetarian?!)  On that note, the cole slaw and potato salad were pretty decent too.  The servings are really enormous and we ended up with a ton of leftovers.  Its catering only, there's no restaurant.  Apparently the minimum order is for 10 people.  Finger lickin' good y'all.

I got to try Boneheads BBQ at my company sponsored "Lawn Olympics", the annual company picnic.  The Texas style bbq was absolutely amazing!!!  Best I've had in San Francisco, bar none.

While we had catered bbq at last years festivities, this years BBQ was unreal.  The following were what really stood out:

-BBQ ribs were incredible, meat just fell off.  Some of the best ribs I've ever eaten...I heard so many people say (including myself), "I have not been able to find any decent bbq in San Francisco"
    - Best baked beans i've ever had
    - Great BBQ sauce.
    - Sausages...really killer sausages, which went great with the excellent bbq sauce

The potato salad was tasty as was the chicken, but we only ordered thighs or that's what they provided.  Supposedly the peach cobbler was a huge success, but when you find bbq this good, you've got to keep going for the meat.  That's all of the meat we had, I would have enjoyed trying the brisket, but hopefully I'll have the opportunity to try it another time.

Anyway, Dave, the guy who made all of the food and I think owns the company did a great job and even brought to go boxes...I took a full rack of ribs, some sausage, and a couple servings of beans home with me and fed it to my wife and in-law over the weekend, scoring major points!

Bonehead's provided smoked brisket, smoked chicken, ribs, salad, rolls and portobello mushrooms for around 80 guests at my recent outdoor event. I had sampled some of the food beforehand so I knew the food was top-notch, but everyone at the event kept telling me how amazing the food was, requesting business cards, and wanting to know if there was a Bonehead's restaurant nearby. There were several native Texans in attendance as well, and they particularly appreciated the authentic, no-nonsense Texas BBQ that Bonehead's provides - and in the Bay Area no less.

Dave, the creator of Bonehead's, is really dedicated to high customer satisfaction. He described every dish he served to the crowd, and he even stayed a while after that to make sure everyone was satisfied.

My personal favorite is the smoked brisket with a little of Dave's own spicy BBQ sauce... simply mouthwatering.

Delicious and authentic Texas bbq! I tried the brisket, pulled pork, chicken, salad, rolls and bbq sauce. Dave, the owner, delivered the food, set it up, stayed at our event (nice guy- good addition to our party) and even brought to-go containers for our leftovers. The bbq was tender and well seasoned. The pulled pork was my favorite. I'd love to try his peach cobbler and cornbread. We washed this all down with Shiner Bock. Dave's prices were very good also and he has a fairly low minimum order amount. I recommend Bonehead's BBQ!

I'm a hedger by nature - nothing is ever 100% in my book, until I tasted Bonehead's incredible barbecue.  I compared the smoked chicken, brisket and sausage against samples from 4 other local places, and Bonehead's is the definition of perfection in the category.  The meat is not just tender, it is succulent, savory, gorgeous and mouth-watering.  The spices are robust and complex, and the smoke flavour is pervsive without being overpowering.  It is clear to see that Mr. Robertson is pursuing both his passion and his skill in this endeavor, and I would recommend his bbq if you really want to please a crowd - top notch.  Lisa.
